  1. I have UV maps for tattoo layers that came with my Aesthetic mesh avatar, and I want to make tattoos from some existing 'normal' pictures that my other half has drawn. Is there an easy way to do this? Easier than redrawing them (which I can't do and I'm not sure she could) distorted like the UV map, I mean. I guess if I had the actual mesh it would be relatively straightforward in Blender, but of course I only have the UV maps. I've been trying to use the transform tools in photoshop (warp, mainly) to get the image to fit the UV, but with unusable results so far.

That's a new one to me, and one I've certainly never suffered from. Perhaps because I go barefoot whenever possible. ToeSlug, on the other hand, I've suffered from a number of times; due to going barefoot outside at night. "Pop! goes the slug." Bellybuttonfluff is a mainstay of my wilderness survival kit. Save it up for a couple of days and you have enough tinder to light a fire. All you need in addition is to create some friction by rubbing two boy scouts together (alhtough you might get more friction these days by rubbing two forumites together.) And now, back to your regular, scheduled programming...
  3. Free MD500? Nice! That's what I decided on; the MD500E VIP. After a few more test flights it came down to the view afforded by the glass and seating position when in mouselook, like I mentioned. I really like being able to see so well. The heli is now parked on my roof, where the anticipatory helipad has looked bare for a couple of months. It's surprised me how well the heli crosses sims, even at high speed. It took all of ten minutes though for me to embed it into someone's ban lines over the sea though. For some reason I can't see those lines until I actually hit them, and sometimes still not, even though I have them turned on in my preferences. I spent the next five minutes banline trampolining for a laugh. The MD500E is a great tree trimmer and I'm going to have a lot of fun exploring in this!
  4. Well-timed thread... I've just been for a test-fly in a few S&W helicopters, with a view to buying one. Personally I want a civi wellychopper, no minigun required. The MD500 VIP seems to be floating my boat so far. I like the good all-round view when in mouselook; it makes landing a little easier instead of parking it on someone's head. That said, the airwolf is hard to resist. It even sounds the part!
  5. Was the item "no copy"? If not, there's still ac opy in your inventory where you left it. If it was no copy, then check your lost and found folder. Sometimes you need to log out and back in again to trigger the item appearing there. This issue is common if you dropped the item you were trying to rez on top of something else, especially on top of a mesh item.
  6. Hmm... nothing you can do, but this is a good example of something I brought up a while ago. The ability to prevent group members from seeing the username list of everyone else in the group. I.e. basic security. A couple of people tried to jump on my head for that, effectively saying it was rubbish and things like this don't happen. If we had that facility though, then only people actively talking in the group could be targeted, greatly limiting the exposure. There are other reasons too why it would be a good idea. I'm sorry that your misfortune illustrates my point.
  7. I've done exactly what you seem to be trying to do with earrings and furry ears that are animated to twitch etc. There's no reason it should not work if you are linking them correctly. If the rings are linked to the ear, with the ear as the root prim (because you selected it last before clicking 'Link') then, if the ear is moved, anything linked to it should follow. The only way I can think of for it not to work is if it is scripted deliberately, deviously and cleverly to fail if it detects parts are linked to it. That will not be the case. Whether they are well or poorly made and scripted is really irrelevent. If the ear is the root prim, and the script moves the ear, anything linked to it will move with it. ETA: Hmm... well, there might be one reason. If the ears themselves are made from multiple pieces, and the script animates the linked parts and not the root prim, then that would cause a failure like this. I've not seen that happen though. To find out: Rez the ear (just the ear) on the ground, select and edit it and see if the 'unlink' button can be clicked. If it can then the ear has multiple parts. If not, then it is like all the ears I have; a single part and what I wrote above holds true.
  8. The only 'AI' avatars that I'm aware of are called bots. They are nothing special in themselves - they are normal avatar accounts on SL I run a few sometimes. They don't really have AI unless you can program them to do something - you would have to do that. There are simple 'viewers' than let you log these 'bots' on without any graphical interface and you can issue commands to them from a web page or in-world, like 'sit here', say "this", hand out these leaflets to every visitor... Lots of stores have them. Some bots are used to perform land surveys, some bots are bad! ... but only because they are programmed to be. Search 'bots' on the forum, and see these links: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Second_Life_bot_software_comparison http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Bot_policy
  9. In reverse order: To see you latest posts, click your username at the top of the page. Give it time and explore a bit. It sounds like you want everything handing to you... it doesn't work like that any more than it does in real life. You can build (you don't even have to pay for land to build on, although it helps), you can start a business and some people do make a real living here. Not many, some just pay the bills and most probably don't even break even. If you are artistically creative and have business flair, the world's your mollusc. Read the forum - follow the links you'll find in some peoples' signatures. Read the scripting and other creating forms. There are in-world classes and many groups you can join. It's not hard, it's much easier than real life, but you get out what you put in.
  10. OH no, you've just broken the first rule of DHUD: Don't talk about DHUD. Now you've no chance. :smileywink:

The only difference seems to be which subgroup of our population they target most promises (a.k.a. lies) at. There isn't one of them that actually gives a hoot about the people they supposedly represent. A not-quite-quote from someone I can't quite recall: "The very worst people to have as leaders, are those who strive the most to be your leaders." It's close enough.
  12. Celestiall Nightfire wrote: Also, a pox upon the heads of those who toss up ban lines and security orbs! Too right! Orbs I can live with if they give me enough time to crash into their rocks (please folks, at least make them phantom) and still get across, but otherwise I feel like "take off and nuke the site form orbit" sometimes. In the first direction I was sailing, past the small protected area, there are a few builds that go right to the world's edge. That seems the predominant issue around here. I found that if there was the slightest gap though, or even no gap but there wasn't too much in the way, that I could 'brute force' my way through. That was with a power boat with a good run-up though, not sure I could do it with this one. It's all part of the fun I suppose. ... On a completely different note, I was sailing away in a completely empty water sim when I came across a small space shuttle thing sitting on the bottom, owned by Gov. Linden. Litterbugs, really!
  13. Kless, Thank you for that! My first good laugh of Sunday. If you don't recover that Nekka and you see a shiny new Bandit 60 going past with a few rock scrapes on the prow, feel free to wave and hitch a ride.
  14. There is view angle and distance in the 'move and view' preferences. For more control than that (and a much better position) you need to set it in the debug settings. See this link: https://modemworld.wordpress.com/tutorials/camera-offsets-penny-patton/
  15. I finally took the plunge today, after a few weeks of procrastinating, and treated myself to a Bandit 60. I've sailed a few freebies before but I'm effectively new to SL sailing. I'm fortunate to have a little plot on the sea, next to a bit of protected sea/land on one side but otherwise surrounded by rental companies (boo!) who have almost completely blocked the sea right up to the edge of the world. I can sail about an hour in one direction before finally hitting a solid wall, but it occured to me I might be able to go the other way too... There's a little gap in the corner, where the rock walls of the rentals don't quite meet. My good eyeball told me it was just possible, so I gave it a shot... Facing into the rental comapanies' blockades - my house is on the right I had already made sure the way could be opened, anyone can open it Lining up - using the motor because I didn't want to scratch my new boat Getting closer... Breathe in... Made it through unscathed - "You have 15 seconds before being ejected"... better get a move on And away we go... there's much more sailing in this direction I have subsequently done that under sail, much more quickly. I crashed into the rocks trying to go back home though, just catching the wall on the right and then being booted by the security orb before I could line up again. More practice needed. At least I haven't hit any ban lines on the water areound here (yet).

  17. Glad you got it - I'll likely be asking for the info myself too. Nothing commercial - I just like being able to do things myself. With regards to everything else you just mentioned - should be simple enough. Getting the commands is the hard bit. I can imagine a one-click makeover, with the texture sets read from a notecards, and presented by an automatic menu system in the HUD. Sounds fun! I'm still debating with myself on the boat - just been out for another test sail. I always procrastinate though.
  18. I think I know which range of boats you are talking about, as I'm looking at buying one right now and I recognise the command phrase (not that others might not use it) and wondering about access for alts and things like that. I've been searching for this sort of information as it's a lot of L$ for me to drop on something, especially if my alt can't even use it. Do you have modify permission on the sail? If so, could you drop your own listener script in there to do the retexturing? I'm sort of gussing not, that the sail is rezzed by the boat or somthing like that. If it's the boat I think, I noticed that the description says "All mesh parts of the boat come modify" (emphasis mine). Yes, I'm fishing for info as well as trying to be possibly helpful :smileywink: ETA: If the scripter does give you the channel number, it might be that a specific command phrase (different from the 'spoken' one) is used. Just ask that as well. I had a creator give me that information for a product I wanted to control remotely and that was exactly how it worked; he gave me the command sequences too.

  20. Well, you did say you wanted lower reading age answers. Is this the first lolhare?
  21. Please may I introduce you to the concept of paragraphs? Your observations might be interesting, but without the use a few paragraphs it is not pleasant to read.
  22. I was once totally yelled at for having my look-at crosshairs on someone. I wasn't even aware of it; I was in a changing room at Free Dove (I was still quite fresh then) and had been spinning my cam around myself checking my outfit out. I must have somehowe clicked on her or something, but until she started yelling I had no idea. Best of it was... she wasn't even in a changing room, or naked, she was stood outside gossiping. She also had a surname, so wasn't new to it all. After literally several minutes of being yelled at and insulted, the only thing I could think of to say was, "you should be so lucky!" and I cleared off, laughing all the way. Some people! Personally I find it quite flattering if I'm being watched, if I feel anything.
  23. Hey, I was stood in almost that exact same spot a week ago. I was did a search on oldest places in the grid, end ended up there.
  24. If you really are up to something ineteresting enough for people to want to watch, put in some seats, a popcorn vendor, and make your land pay-to-access. Make your fortune! Of course, they'll need to know what you're up to in the first place...
