  3. Kuromeru Panthar wrote: I understand about everyone saying it might be too many tris... But why would the exact same model be fine on the beta grid, but have this weird problem on the main grid? Beta grid would be one of the isolated sandboxes there, right? What happens if you try one of the more developed sims there, one that resembles an actual SL scene?
  4. If you bought on the Marketplace you should be aware that it is Linden Lab, not the seller, who is responsible for delivery and there is a good chance the seller never received your payment. If that is what happened, you should contact Linden Lab support https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ and ask for a refund.
  5. Awww, that's a cute picture! It's quite a lot more than grumpiness though. If you have experience with MP and other internet merchant channels to compare it with, you know that the quality of service at MP is much lower than what you' usually expect. Linden Lab certainly seems to recognise this; they would have loved to charge 20, 25 or even more percents like others do but they know they can't. There must be a reason for this and although I can't swear the explanation I gave here is correct, I can't think of any other plausible ones. Can you? Or maybe we should leave that for some other time. This is supposed to be a fun thread, not a serious discussion. I've actually managed to threadjack my own thread here! Sorry.
  6. Whirly Fizzle wrote: You should report that trigger word in a JIRA issue. I was going to post some snide remark about JIRAs in general but then I thought better of it. I'm afraid I'm going to take this thread into a far more serious direction than intended. Because, strange as it may sound, I don't think I want them to fix it. I think I better explain: There are some very obvious facts we often forget when we complain about the Linden Commerce Team: The people associated with it are: Highly qualified Very service minded Hard working Yet they don't seem to achieve very much. If you read through the old threads on this forum you'll find lots of examples of serious issues that have remained unresolved for years. Not the kind of thoughtless complaints all web forums are filled up with but serious issues raised by serious people and supported by well founded arguments. We have to ask why there is such a disproportion between the obvious amount of effort spent and the even more obvious lack of results. There is a common anti-pattern called "Coding by exception", Wikipedia defines it as "Adding new code to handle each special case as it is recognized". (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-pattern) Coding by exception is extremely time consuming and it gets worse and worse as the system becomes cluttered with more and more exceptions. I think this is the main reason why the maintenance and development of the Marketplace is so inefficient. So. It would be nice to have better maturity rating filters of course but it shouldn't be fixed on a word-by-word basis, it's the basic algorithms that need to be changed. Or to put it another way: fix the illness, not the symptoms. It's hardly a matter they should spend a second of time on at this stage anyway. There sure are plenty of more important and more urgent issues to sort out.
  7. Pamela Galli wrote: I wonder if the maximum male avi is any taller. Not inworld atm to see. You could try using one yourself. We promise not to tell Shoes, or rather shoe bases can add quite a bit to the avatar height too btw. But really, nine feet should be more than enough. It's more than I use and I've never heard of anybody getting stuck in my doorways (don't ask me about stairwells though ... but I fixed those too!)
  8. Go for Alwin's option b. The whole permission setting system is one of the most user unfriendly parts of the Second Life interface and even the most careful maker may get it wrong by accident every now and then. Fortunately most merchants realize this and usually all you need to do is contact them and they'll fix it. Edit - after reading Theresa's reply: you did actually try to modify them, didn't you? What they're marked as in your inventory doesn't necessarily mean much.
  9. I did some quick tests with a prim and a max height female avatar. At 2.25 m I could sometimes get under the prim, sometimes not - depending on exactly where in the step I was when I hit it. I got stuck with anything lower than 2.25 m and had no problems at all with anything higher. Even considering there are a few unknown variables nine feet shuold be more than enough doorway height for any avatar. Of course there may be differences between the visual and physics model (and differences between the displayed and the actual phsyics model too) but I suppose you've checked that so the most plausible explanation is that there is some rouge physics going on right where the doorway is. I've seen that happen before actually but it was always temporary and easy to fix simply by moving the house a meter or two to the side anyway.
  10. Chic Aeon wrote: Hard to tell as there are no avatars for scale but is it possible he is just too tall? With unanalyzed physics it's actually possible to make a doorway tall avis can walk in through but not out again. Perfect if you want to keep your man at home!
  11. What you can do is: Leave a negative review warning others Contact the merchants they stole the pics from and let them take care of it
  12. Pamela Galli wrote: My bars display liquor bottles, so they have to be M. That means LL thinks that ones grandmother would be offended if she walked into a Red Lobster or Chili's and merely saw liquor bottles. :mansurprised: You don't bring your grandmother to places like that do you???
  13. Pamela Galli wrote: He edited his original post so it is understandable. Ah, that explains it!
  14. Not sure if there is a thread like this already - I couldn't find one. Everybody are hereby invited to share their most ridiculous forced maturity level changes on MP. I've heard so many marvelous examples of involuntary comedy here, let's collect them all! I'm afraid my own is rather bland though. I have this doorway that measures 3.52x4.2 m. Unfortunately I completely forgot to include the height in the description so it said: 3.52x mThat was too heavy for the MP software so it instantly changed the maturity rating from G to M. Edit: Forgot to mention that size matters here. I made the same error on several listings and can report: 1.7x m - G rated2x m - G rated2.1x m - G rated2.8x m - G rated3.52x m - That's too naughty!!!(How could I do the same silly mistake over and over again? It wasn't really me, it was my automagic MP listing text generating script! Except of course I wrote that script myself...)
  15. Depends on what you mean by obsolete. The current mesh heads won't stop working or anything like that but if all go according to LL's plan, Bento will offer a much better way to do everything current mesh heads can do.
  16. The normal answer would of course be to contact the seller but she seems to be gone from SL. There's certainly something wrong with the sim. I had to switch from the SL viewer to Firestorm while I was there (needed area search to find the Heather Goodliffe waves among all the others) and when I logged back on, I got a string of "Unable to load item that has caused problems in the sim before" messages. That was with my completely mesh and script free (except the AO) ultra low lag avi! What I suggest you do is delete the troublesome waves (or take them into your inventory if you don't have backup copies), contact Live Chat Support, explain the problem and ask them to restart the sim. Then rez the waves again after the restart. Things do sometimes go wrong during the maintenance rolling restarts and those errors don't always show up anywhere in the sim stats. Usually another restart fixes them though. The reason why I suggest you remove the waves and rez again from inventory is that there is a slight chance the server has "blacklisted" the waves and won't even try to run them again. Probably not but it's an easy precaution to take.
  17. Syo Emerald wrote: Your native language does not work well with Google translate. The English sentences it produces are complete nonesense. Seems fairly understandable to me. Unfortunately I don't think I have a good solution to offer. Anyway, for those who didn't understand the English in the original post: Ji yeon is using Firestorm and has problems saving outfits. All she gets when she tries, is an empty outfit folder. It's clearly an inventory failure of some kind but I hate to offer the clear cache solution until somebody who knows this better than me has come up with a better solution. As for the language problem, the Korean forum hasn't had a single post for over a year so I suppose there's no help there. I do have a friend or two who may be able to translate if necessary though.
  18. BEGOCER Lehmann wrote: Lesson I learned: Firestorm bloody sucks for uploading mesh. Just the 64 bit version of it actually - and the one set up for multiple grids. The reason is that Firestorm can't afford to buy their own HAVOK license (HAVOK is the physics engine used by Second Life and a license for it costs a small fortune) so they have to borrow Linden Lab's. Linden Lab's license is for the 32 bit version only and of course restricted to Second Life. BEGOCER Lehmann wrote: I gotta stop just relying on 1 freaking viewer... That's always good advice anyway.
  19. You can save a mesh from SL as a dae file with most third party viewers, including Firestorm and Singularity. It's a rather messy mesh you get that way though so you have to be prepared for a bit of editing before it's usble again. Apart from that, sorry, you can't.
  20. arton Rotaru wrote: A black background doesn't pick up as alpha. I guess you saved out your maps as PNG from Photoshop. PS handling of the PNG format is rather poor. it can add an alpha channel on it's own, even if there is none listed under channels. Gimp has the same issue. It adds an alpha channel to a png by default and you have to remember to remove it manually. With Paint.net you get to choose when you save but the option descriptions aren't very clear to everybody: "24 bit" is without, "32 bit" is with alpha.
  21. Free rent and free house? You're really lucky! To answer your question, it is not possible for somebody to listen in on IMs. Well, I suppose Linden Lab could if they really, really wanted to and had a few thousand hours to spare but they won't. Just make sure you are on IM. Local chat is open to anybody of course and it's easy to post in the wrong chat window by accident.
  22. Simple, short answer: Yes you are allowed to rent out land you own on mainland.
  23. Fennet wrote: 1) Nope. Region is rebooted every morning. Every morning? That sounds a bit excessive. Problems with a sim can persist through several reboots actually. Gukyeol for example, was misbehaving for months - not sure if it still is. But yes, I think we can safely rule out sim issues in this case. Fennet wrote: 2)Nope. Viewer is working fine at all times Mr X is not on the sim. So he's doing something that overloads the sim and causes it to misbehave, and he doesn't seem to be on purpose. Next time he turns up, ask him what he's doing. It's even better if the sim stat readings (ctrl-shift-1) show performance changes the moment he turns up. Fennet wrote Mega prim? Joking. I thought that would have been obvious. Yes, I think we all figured that out, but just in case... Besides, other people may be reading this thread and get some bad ideas. ;-)
  24. Fennet wrote: Let's see, no problems, no problems, no problems for 2 months, then X shows up, 1 minute later all hell breaks loose. Then no problems, no problems, no problems, X shows up, 30 seconds later all hell breaks lose, again. Problems abate the second X leaves the sim. I seriously doubt it's mere coincidence. Yes you're right, it doesn't look like a coincidence. But griefing is deliberate. This looks more like somebody playing around with things he doesn't understand, and that means it may be possible to discuss the problems with him like you did with the security orb. The most likely general explanation is that he is doing or wearing something that overloads the server and/or viewers. If talking doesn't help, contact the landowner(s) and ask them to sort it out. If that doesn't help either, I'm afraid the only solution is to follow the example of your old negihbors and move somewhere else. If you want to avoid unpleasant surprises like this, you probably want to find a place where the owners have established some clear rules and have enough control over the surroundigns to enforce them. Whether it's mainland or island doesn't really matter although such places are easier to find on private sims. Or of course, you could just be patient and see how long he stays. Fennet wrote: Building a mega prim sounds like a great idea. In retaliation you mean? In one word: Don't!!! Fennet wrote: Honestly, I just thought maybe someone would show up here who'd had a similar experience. I think most people who have been in SL for a while have ahd problems with neighbors. Me, I'm hardly an oldtimer in SL but I've already had to move twice because of bad neighborhoods. I'm not going to do it a third time, I've taken every precuation I can possibly think of this time. Exactly what kind of problems you get may vary a lot though.
  25. wherorangi wrote: i think that when something starts with So, then the writer is usually going to give an answer, and then put the question, and then put a context to both Yes. That is probably the most plausible explanation when it's used for an article title. The very first thought I had when I first saw a "So" question used as a thread title was something like: who is this So you are talking to? Is that even a name? And shouldn't there be a comma after it? Why are you posting private messages on an open forum anyway? Next thought was: if there are two of them here, would they be So and So? But my thought processes can be a little bit weird sometimes.
