It's just a topic I kinda got curious about, I'm not saying the world is coming to an end or that SL will make changes or anything like that I'm just interested in hearing opinions on this from people here on the forum. Think of this as a conversation starter? i know that basic SL is just up to about moderate and doesn't alow AO content but the fact that it is there, would that have to make the rating higher? if you think this is a stupid question, meh, post anyway, flame if you want! =3 thers an article called "Second Life on Steam: Rod Humble's Hail Mary Pass"? in the Alphaville Herald .. its written by Pixeleen Mistral .. the article addresses issues about SL & Steam .. id post the url but i dont think im supposed to Jeanne

  4. Jo Yardley wrote: Empty sims will always be a problem, no matter how many people there are in SL. My sim has a European 1920s theme, quite a niche. Yet we have a vibrant and busy community with lots of people and every one of our 70+ apartments has been rentedn fulltime almost since the day we started 3 years ago. But most of the people interested in 1920s Germany will either be European or America, so there is a moment during the day that Europeans and Americans are either in bed or at work. Even good running sims with decent traffic can find themselves deserted for hours now and then. The trick is to find a sim you like with or without people, try and find out if there is a community, if they have events and if so, when the right time is to visit. We have a daily happy hour, every single day at 2pm pdt, early for Americans, late for Europeans, but we're both awake. So that is when we all know that at least something is happening in the sim and some of us will be there, a good time to drop in. If you visit our sim and it is empty, well it isn't all the time and enough people keep coming to keep it going. My sim is not some charity I run and throw money at BTW, I've looked for Viking roleplay sims as well and Medieval ones, sadly couldn't find any that were even remotely historically accurate and that didn't allow fantasy stuff. One viking sim I found looked good... but then I saw viking helmets with horns, that made me run away! iv been meaning to visit your sim Jo .. ill try to drop in some afternoon this week :womanhappy: i just read an article posted by a SL & FB friend .. it claims that concurrency is down by 12% since Feb & that new accounts are down too .. says that there have been several mass defections from SL to other virtual worlds .. the Elf Clan in particular was a large group that left en mass .. also claims that the upsurge in griefing is due to the move to Steam .. claims that as gamers use2 higher end graphics become exposed to SL some of them will be prone to the 'metagame' of griefing .. & even claims that this isnt necessarily a bad thing !! in that a sense of unexpectancy is better than a locked down game .. i dont know if all this is true but i do know ...... that Riverside Blues Club closed yesterday .. this makes me very sad .. RS was more than just a club .. it was like family .. for weeks & weeks now id been going to RS every sunday morning for Messalinas Gospel & Blues set .. id drink coffee listen to the music & visit w/ my friends ... sundays wont seem the same anymore .. i feel bad for having taken RS for granted .. all too often id be like 'well .. there isnt much going on in SL .. but theres always Riverside .. guess ill go there' .. now i dont have it anymore & neither does the hundreds of very cool music lovers who had become good friends @ RS .. it sucks & Riverside is only the lastest .. iv only been in SL since Aug 2011 but in that time iv seen many many cool places simply cease to exist .. 1st ther was Papas club .. not the best club but one i hung out in as a newbie .. Pagan Sisters folded .. as did the very cool Pathways sim where i circled on sabbats & esbats .. worst of all was the loss of Seaside Rendezvous where i lived with my sisters & their friends .. that was a wonderful sim !! so gorgeous .. so peaceful .. such fun dance parties w/ fireworks .. such elaborate & beautiful undersea stuff ... just gone .. & on & on .. Riverside is merely the latest i know what you mean about Viking & Medieval sims not being very authentic .. many that the search brought up as 'viking' were actually gorean .. one of the best is Folkvangr on the Lexicolo sim .. but even there Nightshade & Dizzi have encorporated a lotuv fantasy stuff .. which i dont mind cuz i dont really care about strict historical authenticity .. i dont really care about viking stuff per se .. its just that i worship Freyja & the Vanir .. and so did the old Norse im glad your sim is thriving Jo .. im sure that many are & whether theyre empty or populated depends on the time of day in some particular partuv the world .. i dont mind being alone on pretty sims .. i only seem to complain about it to make the point that ppl arent very likely to keep paying the exorbitant tier LL extorts from them .. if no1 ever comes around to see their build Best wishes .. & ill stop by Berlin Project soon Jeanne

  6. Perrie Juran wrote: First of all I'm going to echo what someone else said, why in hell would you take a new person to a Welcome Center?!?!? It's not like there is really anything to do or see at one of them. And it's pretty well know they are a favorite hang out for griefers, not to mention the general lag fest they are. And even if LL payed someone to sit 24/7/365 at the Welcome Centers, the griefers would just move else where. There are after all around 30,000 SIMs. Secondly, I'm just not up to doing searches this morning, but maybe someone has the info at their fingertips. The subject of GPU bombs has come up before and if I recall there were JIRA's about the "loop hole" that allowed people to create them and I thought that had been fixed. I could be wrong about it being fixed, but I know it's come up before. when i 1st came 2 sl i was @ this british place .. like a library or museum or something .. i walked thru it & it had stuff to reada bout how to walk & how to fly .. it was boring but there was no1 else there .. when i read that i could fly i wanted out .. so that i could flya round .. but i couldnt find a way out .. so i just opened search & saw the LLCC party was going on so i TPed there .. & was flying around .. & thats where i met my sisters !! as for GPU bombs .. im not sure how they work .. but i dont see how they could be prevented .. cuz they must work like GPU stress testers .. only they apply stress all @ once rather than gradually .. i would think they could fry ppls GPUs !! They obviously live increadibly mundane lives to have to annoy people over the internet to get their kicks. Though you shouldn't be so angry with Linden Labs, you think about the amount of people within SL and the ratio to people who are there to help out, I'm sure they are overwhelmed with issues and not that they don't want to help you and your friend. i dunno Coco .. back in the 90s tho .. when my brothers were litl .. they would use these cheetah chat chat bots to crash yahoo chatrooms .. they thot it was hilarious .. so yeah .. ther r ppl who just get some kinduv kick outuv booting ppl & messing up others fun .. its so common that i guess its just partuv human nature Jeanne

  13. Dillon Levenque wrote: Robert69 Little wrote: The only logical explanation I can think of as to why Linden Lab fails to do anything about these griefer issues, somehow has something to do with "profit". It doesn't matter how much we invested into opening a venue.. how much we were renting the land for each month.. the loss of income performers may have earned during a show....this is about how much we will spend trying to protect "ourselves. Years of abuse reports.. years...and you see how little of concern griefers mean to them. Do I sound bitter?!...I think I have good reasons to be. Not once in 5 years have I heard anything of Linden Lab addressing griefer issues. I'm puzzled. You're spending tons of money on tier and maintaining your venue. That, if I'm not mistaken, is profit for LL, and since LL is a business profit is very important: without same, the business fails sooner or later. Yet you suggest LL has a profit motive for not protecting you from griefers (or at least, that's the way I read the comment). Where could that profit be? Clearly not from the griefers, since they are registering as free alt accounts. Also not from the AR's you file: I have never done that but I've been told by people I trust there is no charge for filing an AR. What is the "profit" motive for LL in letting your griefers come back? isnt it obvious? they dont want to pay salaries for investigating ARs & getting after griefers they laid off 30% of their staff so that the big shot parasites could get richer .. staff could go on unemployment & griefers could run rampant harassing others THATs the "profit" motive Duh Jeanne

  17. yesterday i spent the afternoon roaming sims .. i searched for 'garden' & 'nature' & 'elven' & visited mebbe 8 or 10 sims .. each one was gorgeous !! they were amazing .. & yet .. i met nobody .. i think that maybe 1 sim had someone else in it but they were outuv chat range & since they made no effort to come towards me i made none to go towards them ... today i did the same thing .. only i searched for 'viking' themed sims .. most i ended up on were actually gorean but every single sim i tped to was deserted .. 1 sim made me wear a meter & said id be captured & collared if caught there .. they missed their chance! cuz i was the only 1 there .. LoL what i hav2 wonder is why all these talented content creators pay real $$$ to maintain these sims that no1 frequents? is it really worth $295 per month to store the cartoons you make on a LL server .. just so you & your bros can go there now & then & rp being a viking or whatever ?!? it all just seems so dumb to me ... i like seeing what others build .. & i enjoy the dances & parties when my sisters are DJing .. but i really see no rational reason for spending ANYthing on SL .. leta lone serious hundreds of US dollars on it .. its pretty & all .. & can be fun when theres something going on .. but SheeSH !! you can rent movies or buy comic books or something .. for MUCH less .. i think that SL will die just as soon as ppl come to their senses Jeanne

I lost a graphics card due to overheating a few years back and I am very conscious of the load SL puts on the CPU and GPU chips. I would like to get the best visual experience for processor load, so in order to minimize the CPU/GPU temperature is it just a case of reducing the draw distance and setting graphics the preferences to low, or are some of the custom settings more processor hungry? Also does a busy SIM put more load on the processors so rendering fewer avis would help? Thanks Rocky i really wish i knew more about these issues .. im afraid im not much help but id like to share a few observations : my brother recently built a new computer for me that was supposed to be customized for SL & other gpu intensive apps .. from the getgo it got VERY hot .. according to CPUID HWMonitor the Northgate core once got 93^oC !! i took the computer outuv the desk & put it on top .. i installed 3 new fans in the case .. & i have a large fan blowing directly on the computer .. this .. along w/ the fact that the weather has cooled off a bit since July .. has lowered my core temps ~20^oC on average .. theyre in a more acceptable range now but still run high i stream music via SAM & Icecast more or less 24/7 .. streaming doesnt heat the machine too much but as soon as i log in2 SL the temps go up .. i havent systematically took notes on temp differences in a crowded sim vs deserted one .. for instance .. or when dancing vs just sitting or standing .. i should do this .. but i do know that temps go up by as much as 20^oC when i log in2 SL .. i was having trouble with my computer freezing (ironically) when it got too hot .. & it only got to hot when both SAM & Firestorm were running @ the same time .. but my temps are staying a bit cooler & i havent been freezing with my old computer i had graphics setting & draw distance all set very low .. i have them set higher now & maybe my puter would run cooler if they were slid down .. but i spent a lotuv money so that SL would look nice !! i dont think that graphics are going to get much better than they are now until hardware engineers do someting radically different about heat dissipation in PCs ..
