  3. I have been running SL on Win 7-64 bit since early 2010 and have experienced no such problems. I did have an increase in crash frequency May or June of this year, but at worst, that meant 3 or 4 crashes a week. More recently, my crash rate is less than one a week. Here is a relevant blog post: http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2010/09/thanks-torley-windows-7-does-run-second.html Note that 32 bit software is supposed to get special handling when it is installed by a 64 bit system Virtual Outworlding: Windows 7 -- 64 bit -- Second Life -- No problems: http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2010/08/windows-7-64-bit-second-life-no.html That has always been automatic in my expereince. The problems you describe are often caused by connection problems. Here is a post about some possible soulutios: Login fails? Lots of logouts? 4. Here is current info on the actor's Sandbox The Actors' Sandbox This is a weekly tuition-free workshop for voice and machinima actors. it happens in Second Life at Running Lady Studios on Soundstage One. The workshop begins on Wednesday at 4pm SLT. The workshop invites actors, and those who aspire to be actors, to perform on our stage in a series of exercises designed to expand their skills in interpretation, timing, avatar motion, and more. The workshop is facilitated by Corky Myrtle, Suzy Yue, and Wytchwhisper Sadofsky. it has been running continuously for over a year. We invite actors, aspiring actors, and machinima producers to attend this Wednesday and get a glimpse of who's out to establish a name as a performer. TKR

  6. Here is some info on videography in SL Video/Machinima in virtual worlds http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/08/kit-hobbies-videomachinima-in-virtual.html There are theatrical groups in SL. For example" Avatar Repertory Theater productions http://www.avatarrepertorytheater.org/node/49 TKR
  7. I have the same problem. And I also get a crash when I try to download a texture to my computer. I did not have that problem with the most recent Firestorm or the beta version of the standard viewer. And, yes, I have Skydrive. There may be a connection, altough the problem only started with a recent update (June, I think) I have Fraps running on my computer and can take pictures with that, so this is no big issue for me. (If you want to get pictures via screen capture, you can clear the UI by Ctrl + alt + F1). TKR
  8. Here is an article about: What do we do in Second Life? 2012 http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/01/kif-what-do-we-do-in-second-life-2012.html and Continuing Events in Second Life Aug-Sept http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/08/kit-continuing-events-in-second-life.html#more TKR
  9. I am running a collaborative writing project to produce comedy scripts Here is the background: http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/06/writers-alert-media-lets-grow-comedy.html http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/07/media-comedy-series-project-planning-1.html http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/08/writers-alert-series-writing-in-virtual.html The group meets for planning on Saturdays at 10 am SLT. A lot of the work is done outside of the meeting, but a class would be welcome to come and observe the planning session. Note that the blog pages above have links to additional resources we are using. Feel free to contact me as Thinkerer Melville inworld. TKR
  10. Sounds like a connection problem. Here are some things that might deal with connection problems Login fails? Lots of logouts? Summary http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/12/kit-login-fails-lots-of-logouts-summary.html TKR
  11. Here are some suggestions: How do you get Lindens in Second Life? Summary 2012 http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/12/kit-how-do-you-get-lindens-in-second.html YKR
  12. I am not seeing that problem. I am seeing rather slow response from MySL. Could your browser be timing out before MySL gets its response to you? This could happen if your bandwidth is too low (for example, if your ISP was overloaded by the olympics). TKR
  13. The issue is probably related to this matter: I wonder if the checkbox gets unchecked because the 30 L listing fee is not being collected from the group owner (me.) If the Pay group liabilities.. item is unchecked for everyone, the system would reasonably refuse to accept liabilitues. I did not think the owner could uncheck that item, but you should try checking it. You may want to review who is has that checked, because the charge will be spreade over all people who have that checked. Some people may not realize that this charge is being made. TKR
  14. I don't think the Lindens can know what scripts are malfunctioning until they debug. An update to the the server code may break some scripts, but the way the linden find that out is that people tell them. In the case of the repeated crashes we had on Hobo Island, we were never able to identify the culprit script or object, because the crash wiped out our access to the data. The lindens would have access to the crash log, so they could identify the conditions that caused the crashes. But at that point, their best course of action might be to fix the code, if they can. I would recommend mentioning repeated crashes in the ticket. TKR
  15. I had a similar problem with Hobo Island a couple of months ago. We could suppress the problem by turing off scripts and narrowed the problem to a single parcel, which must have had an object with a malfuctioning script. About that time my complaints to the concierge got an engineer to look into the problem. That fixed it. TKR
  16. Here is a summary on that: How do you get Lindens in Second Life? Summary 2012 http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/12/kit-how-do-you-get-lindens-in-second.html TKR
  17. When I see a sim down, I report it on a ticket. The sim is always restored in about 1/2 hour, unless there is a technical problem with it You do not need any connection with the sim to file a sim down report on it. TKR
  18. MySL allows communication without via your browser. It has your friends list Private communications in SL, Forums, MySL, IMs http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/11/kit-private-communications-in-sl-forums.html TKR
  19. I use Google Reader: http://www.pcworld.com/article/260464/how_to_get_started_with_google_reader.html Subscribe by url, it handles RSS feed, organizes results, keeps track of what is unread. I keep it running all the time. I have built the feed list manually. I would have to much content if I did not inspect and select. You can search on key words for a start. If you want to monitor certain key words, I think you can set up a customized search in Google. TKR
  20. If you wear a BOP, it will act much like a HUD, except that other people can see it--and can hear the music if they have their preferences set for that. A BOP is simply a live web page on a prim, so you would have to go to a web page that offers the music you want. I have no info about combining a BOP with a HUD or making a HUD to play mp3s fom the web TKR
  21. Normally you will play music on a parcel you own or control. Here is how you do that: What is that music I hear? http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/04/kit-what-is-that-music-i-hear.html Where people run into problems is that you must use a url that is set up to stream music. A url to a web page will not work. Here are instructions for getting the correct url for shoutcast: Guide to streaming audio. Shoutcast. 2012 http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/04/kit-guide-to-streaming-audio-shoutcast.html You can play music from a prim using BOP technology: Hear/see music/video media/BOP in Second Life 2012 http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2012/04/kit-media-hearsee-musicvideo-mediabop.html You could even wear a BOP prim, so you would not be limited to playing the music on land you control. Remember, thouigh, that a BOP prim is a web page, so you would play the music as you would from a web page, by clicking on the correct button TKR
  22. Yes, but most of them will require relevant experience. Here are some suggestions: How do you get Lindens in Second Life? Summary 2012 http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/12/kit-how-do-you-get-lindens-in-second.html TKR

  24. I don't understand your message. If you get a message "Can't write..." the install has failed.. I am guessing that you then tried an install of the beta viewer, which succeeded and did not crash on start, but was extremely slow. Extremely slow points to a problem with your internet connection. Be sure you are not using Wi-Fi. It drops data. You can check your speed -- Google on bandwidth and you can find sites that will let you see if your ISP is giving you the service you are paying for. You can reboot your internet connection. Disconnect your modem and leave it off for about 15 mins, then reconnect it. That may get you a better connection. You can check your graphics driver. Go to the vendor's website and look for a download option. (Never let Microsoft update your graphics driver.) You can try the phoenix viewer. It sometimes works when others do not. The "Can't write.." message suggests that you did not succeed in removing the files that are stored in a hidden place (on Windows). The Beta viewer would install in a separate directory and not be bothered by the previous installation. Since it is working (sort of), you will probably want to work with it, so you can ignore the old install for now. TKR
  25. This is not a general problem. SL is starting normally for all the people I know. I suggest you do a clean reinstall -- remove all files. Here is how: How to do a clean install http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_clean_reinstall TKR
