  1. You can find a possible work around to the bug at the Phoenix Viewer site entitled Friend Permissions Bug. http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ If that doesn't work, look in the comments and find how my friend and I finally got it fixed. You have to do it one at at time, so only "best friends" need apply .
  2. So I just had a delivery notice in my chat window of an item from the marketplace -- a fairly expensive item for me *wink*, but I didn't receive the money and it isn't listed in my marketplace sales area. Some time has passed now with no crediting and I of course will watch to see if it is credit and have already pasted the notice in a notecard for safe keeping. I can't find any Marketplace support links to report or check on this but sure some of you know where it is. Happily this has been my first issue. Sadly, all I get is a lot of going in circles when trying to find an answer at the Marketplace site. Thanks in advance.
  3. A bug as stated by others. Some info on a workaround is on the Phoenix site under the title FRIEND PERMISSIONS BUG . http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ If that doesn't work for you, see my info in the comments of that article. After over a week, my friend can now see me. Oh the excitement! Good luck.
  4. You need to have Payment Info USED in order to have a sell limit. So you could buy the minium amount of lindens and then sell them back. Not handy, but it does work.
  5. See the Phoenix viewer site for some workarounds. Sorry but they don't seem to have a way to get to the indivdual posts. It is currently at the top http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ Also see several posts that I made in comments as to how to fix things if their ideas don't work for you. Yes, it HAS been messy
  6. My only addition to Kirsten's list is that if you want GOOD SHADOWS you need to stick to a NVIDIA card. ATIs aren't recognized and nasty antialias looks insue. I have number 2 card in Kirsten's list. It is great but NO PRETTY SHADOWS
  7. It depends partly on "kudos" given, partly on answers accepted and also on what you have to say. So it means you have been doing a good job helping out. Next stop -- member *wink*.
  8. I spend a lot of time using Windlight and adjusting settings for photography. Actually I never really noticed that, but logged in to play and you are very correct. The dimming is a feature we may not like but seems like it is non-adjustable. I tried all sorts of variables and still got the same dim moon. I suggest taking a photo of the moon higher in the sky and then superimposing it over the actual moon using graphics software. That seems like the only way for now. Thanks for the experiment
  9. I suggest a silent auction might be a better way to go. Those are prevalent for Relay For Life events so that leads me to believe they are both "legal" and sanctioned.
  10. I have Win 7 -64 bit and can happily say I have no issues at all. So "that" at least isn't the problem . The 64 bit thing IS a problem however for lots of programs, so be prepared for that (sorry, but true). That being said, since the newest Viewer 2 has proved to be very buggy and not working for many folks, why not install a third party viewer and see if that works better for you. From your discription (assuming you installed V2) that could be it. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory I have installed and used successfully on my Win7 64 bit system, Imprudence, Kirstens, and FIRESTORM (new). I also installed Phoenix to test for shadows and it seemed to run fine but I didn't use it long. Good luck. Hopefully it is that driver issue in the new V2 and another viewer will do the trick.
  11. That $53.31 can't be for your annual membership which is $72, so if it says it is from Linden Labs it must be for something else. Contacting billing would of course be the way to go. HOWEVER, there have been recent (last week that I know of) occurrences of fraudulent billings AT PAYPAL for amounts close to that (in the case I know of $41 and $55) so this could be something completely different. Check up on the details of that charge and if it isn't one you authorized, contact Paypal immediately. Also, unless there was money in your Paypal account, it is unlikely that the charge went through. IMPORTANT EDIT: I just talked to my RL friend and while Paypal originally told him the charge would not go through, it did to a point. There are two or three days for the fraudulent folks to back up their "sales" claim which of course they cannot. Then Paypal will (in theory) return the money from the BANK. This is so not good and I am glad that you wrote about this issue as it appears to be more prevelent that one would suspect. Heading off to change my Paypal password and security question. At least that was the case of my RL friend. A good reason not to keep "cash" in your Paypal account these days. Good luck.
  12. I only know about bunnies where you click, tell them to birth and wait an hour. From researching it appears that you rez the "nest" and then touch it and choose coax from a menu (maybe a right click?). It sounds like they appear much quicker than bunnies did. I suggest you write to the meeroo forums: http://www.worldofmeeroos.com/index.php?q=forum Meanwhile I found this really cute machinima of a birth that you might enjoy watching :
  13. I agree with both answers about the alpha layer. It is sometimes difficult to spot in the WORN tab and has different icons with different viewers. I used Imprudence for a very long time and I think the icon looks much like a shirt but with "checks". So see if you can find that. Also it is very possible that you have a alpha layer on that came with other shoes, not the ones you are wearing (which may not have come with an alpha layer at all). So make sure that the one you are wearing is the one that came with your shoes. I find I do that fairly often. Easy to forget you have an alpha layer on as there is no easy "detach" like the shoes. As mentioned you can edit your original post by using the Options link and drop down menu .
  14. There could be a few explanations. You may need to manually clear your cache and relog to try and retrieve them. Sure someone will give you the steps here. ************ OR If they are no copy you may have rezzed them and forgotten you did? (search around your property or use object search if you have it in a viewer) If they are no copy you may have moved them in your inventory? (search your inventory for animations and if you know the names even easier) If they were COPY items (or even no copy and the above choices didn't apply) and are gone from your inventory they may be part of an ongoing DMCA ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Millennium_Copyright_Act ) investigation. If that is it, they will possibly be returned when it is completed depending on the outcome. If none of those apply, you may have just lost things when they redid the database. I lost several thousand items then that were really gone. Sorry. If they were copy items you might contact the seller if you happen to have your transaction history. This late though, it isn't all that likely they will replace. Sometimes it is good to check in more often . Good luck.
  15. For better or worse you HAVE your character name. It is memorialshrimpaiko resident. So if you use that name you should be able to log in. All new citizens now have "resident" for their last name. That wasn't originally the long term plan, but it is what we seem to have now. If you don't want to keep that name, best to make another account. Name changes do not happen here. . I know. Tis confusing.

If you land is on the MAINLAND (hence the $195 I am seeing in your post) then according to the Land Fees chart, it will be $195 for the next person. If you have an island (estate land), then it will be $295. From Linden Labs --- Mainland: USD 195.00/ month 65,536 Entire Region Private island: The owners of private islands currently pay a fee of $295 per month, per island to Linden Lab (as of February, 2007).
  17. Just a note that this seems to be an issue in FIRESTORM also. I had "friends and groups see me" only checked for a few days and found out last night that friends couldn't see me either. So I set it back to "everyone" and still folks in FIRESTORM (and perhaps Viewer 2) can't see me.
  18. I just recolored some NEW scripted hair two days ago with no problem, so it isn't a universal bug . I used to have your texturing problem long ago. VERY frustrating. My issue turned out to be my router. I switched modems (new one came with integrated router) and the problem was solved. I heard that updating the router software also solved the problem. So it "could" be that. If you are using a wireless connection, you might try connecting directly and see if that solves the issue. If it does, you can go from there . Good luck.
  19. Good answers already (and I even gave a kudos *wink*) but wanted to emphasize (since I too have 64 bit) that you need to be SURE and get the correct driver. Sometimes it is difficult to find. Also the power supply issue is a biggie and I have mentioned that before in other posts. So for other folks reading this be SURE and check the power supply on your computer before ordering a graphics card upgrade. And I agree about checking to make sure your system knows to use the new card and not the onboard one. Maybe returning that computer and getting one that will actually run your card (bigger power supply) would be an option. Most places let you return within a short period of time with no penalty.
  20. Normally you need to have a GROUP TAG on for the group that the apartment is set to. If you "just" rented it may take awhile for the landlord to contact you and invite you to the group. Sometimes you can look in the About Land and find what group the land is set to and then try and find the group. Most often though you need an invite from some official person. So do a little sleuthing and see if you can figure out the landlord. If there was an info card about the apartment then you can see who wrote that (look at the PROPERTIES of the notecard) and write to them. I know it is frustrating to want to move in and not be able to . Been there a few times. Now I buy. Easier in some ways. Good luck!
  21. I suspect you are stuck. LL will not get involved and if you have already contacted the vendor and they will not replace, then you have just lost some lindens. One thing you might try next time is to ATTACH the food to yourself. This trick lets you know if the asset server is happy. If you can attach an object (any object, not just your food) then detach it and the likelihood of it rezzing is very good. Sorry. It happens. We've all lost things.
  22. Just download Phoenix (or the new FIRESTORM) from the website (http://www.phoenixviewer.com/) and install. Then use that viewer to access Second Life. You do not need to uninstall Viewer 2, but you certainly could if you are a "neat" person. There is no guarantee that the new viewer will fix your problem of course. Your computer might not be hefty enough to run SL. Then again, most third party viewers need less sophisticated hardware than Viewer 2, so it is worth a try. You might also check your firewall? Your error message seems to suggest a connection issue rather than a viewer one. Sure other folks will have more info. Your browser choice by the way, has very little to do with Second Life -- only when you are using the browswer to open a webpage from within SL. Separate programs with different functions . Good luck.
  23. When I first started building I was very frustrated. This was over three years ago and most of the classes (not all) were of the "Rez a torus. Resize to (yada yada). Hole size ...." variety. I actually wanted to know WHY we were doing things. Typically, that is not how classes are taught in SL. I have taken lots and I taught about 80 hours worth . BUT -- and it is a bit one. Even if you stay in the system and go through the motions, you WILL learn. It gets easier all the time, and eventually you come to that "ah ha" moment (at least I did) when you see how it all fits together and you pretty much can make anything you want on your own. It takes time and yes there are plenty of tutorials out there as well as stores that deal with building kits (purchased). So there are many ways to get where you want to be. I can say that WHEN YOU GET THERE -- *wink*, it is truly wondrous. For the most part, you can build your vision. And that is most likely the best thing about Second Life. Go forth, learn, grow and enjoy!
  24. I did a lot of research on this a couple of months ago when I was thinking about working on machinima. What I found (then) was that officially you can take STILL photos anywhere in Second Life as long as there is not a "Do not take pictures in the sim" statement in the About Land description. The rules are very differnt for machinima. For those you need to get permission from the landowner before publishing. Here is an OLD Forum post which doesn't answer any questions but does give you things to think about. I believe that the BRAND name thought there seem valid. Of course we have creators overlooking RL brand rights all the time. http://forums-archive.secondlife.com/327/1a/146081/1.html AH HA!!! I FOUND IT 7.4 You also grant Linden Lab and other users of Second Life a license to use in snapshots and machinima your Content that is displayed In-World in publicly accessible areas of the Service. You agree that by uploading, publishing, or submitting any Content to or through the Servers for display In-World in any publicly accessible area of the Service, you hereby grant each user of Second Life and Linden Lab a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to photograph, capture an image of, film, and record a video of the Content, and to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the resulting photograph, image, film, or video in any current or future media as provided in and subject to the restrictions and requirements of our Snapshot and Machinima Policy. The foregoing license is referred to as the "Snapshot and Machinima Content License." And here is the link to the SL wikie on the Snapshot and Machinima Policy. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Snapshot_and_machinima_policy
  25. There are two parts to the item you want to make. First there is the prim that will be the rug. You use the building tools to create a cube (box) and then change the size parameters to reflect your needs. So the height would be very small with the length and width several meters each way. Then texture with an appropriate pattern. The sex engine is a script or set of scripts that will let the rug have power over those that use it. Animations are also needed, maybe sounds (not really up on sex in SL *wink*). So this is not something a new person would build themselves but most likely buy from a vendor. I suspect there are plenty of readymade rugs, maybe even free ones on the marketplace. You will need to have search set for ADULT status to see most of them. Happy shopping. Also if you do want to learn to build, there are several good schools in world that teach free classes daily, starting with the basics. Just look under EVENTS in search and choose EDUCATION from the drop down menu.
