    Rental

While I have seen land for rent (mainland) for around that price per prim, it is most likely that you would have to go with a 512 lot which is only 117 or spend a bit more and get 234. This would NOT be very beachy *wink*. Now and then on my days with nothing to do, I simply go look at land to see what there is out there, and unless you know someone it is going to be very difficult to find what you want. A better bet -- or at least one that fits your budget -- would be to rent an apartment or cottage. I have had several nice ones in that prim per linden price range -- even one for $50 that included private sandbox use. I agree that most private estate land starts around 2 per prim and is mostly larger chunks. You could get lucky though. You can search for rental land in the classifieds. SEARCH > Classifieds> Land rental. I typed in 512 to see what was there and the cheapest I could find was $188 for 117 prims. It was close to the beach by the photo. I also found a 1024 for $300. There may be cheaper ones, but you would need to visit each rental office to find what is available. Good luck.
  2. Most likely you have already purchased as much as you can for now. This depends on your time in "game" and other criteria. See it all here which is available from your account page under Linden Exchange > MANAGE > Billing and Trading Limits https://secondlife.com/my/lindex/describe-limits.php
  3. I do photography here for a "living" here in SL and have done lots of experimentation. Here is what I have found. If it is an inworld photo like a vendor photo. Take a HIGH RESOLUTION version (this is a choice you check on your snapshot pane at least in most viewers). Do everything you want to do to said photo at a large pixel size (doesn't really matter too much , whatever you are comfortable with) and THEN crop and resize. If you are making a custom texture to put on a building, furniture etc. the same rules apply. Start with a larger than needed size and then resize at the end. It really does work out best if you keep to the SL standard sizes, so 512 x 512 or 512 x 1024 (not much reason to do 1024 x 1024 unless you are putting it on something REALLY large as the rezzing time for a 1024 x 1024 is four times that of 512 x 512 (obvious when you do the math). If you need your texture to be other than a 1:1 or 1:2 format, then take your graphic (say 768 x 512) and resize it to (512 x 512). Don't let SL do it as it adds one more opportunity for fuzziness. Here is the important part: After you have resized and before you upload SHARPEN your image. How much you sharpen will depend on your software and the look you want. Many third party viewers (Imprudence for sure and I think Phoenix) will let you upload a temporary texture and see how it looks. It will not work for long, but you can check for clarity before spending money to upload. Imprudence will even let you bypass the temp upload and check from the file on your computer (yeah!). There is really no way to get a fantastic texture inside SL for now. It degrades quite a bit over the version you save on your hard drive. I usually use TGA by the way, but I can see no difference with PNG files. The best you can do is try and keep things as high resolution and sharp as you can before you upload. You are not alone. We all have this problem . PS. You want to save the file to your hard drive of course, not save to your inventory and then save it out to your hard drive. That seems pretty obvious, but just sayin' *wink*
  4. From the letter it sounds like they think you are using an illegal viewer to copybot items. You didn't tell us what viewer you were using. If you were having trouble logging in with a banned viewer that was probably the red flag that went up and cause the letter. Only guessing of course. By all means appeal.
  5. My only thought would be to check and make sure all the items you put in are LISTED and active. You can see each item's status on the MANAGE INVENTORY page. If anything says "List" that means it is unlisted at this point. Other items may not show up because they may be "Unavailable". This can happen when the magic box gets confused (sim restart, moving the box etc.). You can RESYNC the boxes and see if that helps. Honestly, I think the Marketplace is MUCH better than it used to be . Good luck.
  6. The messages you are getting seem to suggest there may be an issue with your avatar rather than the computer though. If your avatar is wearing something that the system sees as dangerous (whether on purpose or not) that could be it. I haven't had occasion to know much about that, but have read posts on this board concerning attachments that are Bad, Bad, Bad. Have you tried logging onto the beta grid? I am not sure how you could DETACH ALL, get more or less naked and start over again if you can't log in. If you are premium, then of course live chat might be of help. Here is the support page: https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/ I believe if you are premium you see a live chat button . PS. You CAN take your money out of your problematic avatar's account without logging in. Turn it into Lindens and send it to yourself in the real world.
  7. Also, be prepared to see some extra folders (most likely empty) that can't be used or deleted. Those appear permanently when you install any Version 2 Viewer. They do NOT disappear when you switch to a Version 1 viewer . I just suspected that might be your next question, so answering ahead *wink*. Not being in the Viewer 2 camp, I personally welcome you to the world of Third Party Viewers!
  8. Just a couple of additions to Griffins answer. If you actually want to sell you land (as opposed to just listing it at a ridiculous price ) then it would be very good to change your About Land information to reflect the sale. So "512 beach lot bordering Linden waterway" or something descriptive would be good. Any additional important info can go in the land description. If you are reselling ESTATE land (not Linden Mainland) you are in effect "renting" so if you are selling your rental rights to someone you could put a classified in under LAND RENTALS. Search > Classifieds> Land Rental -- then choose the "Place and Ad" tab. There is a minimum cost for an ad.
  9. I could find no info on limits to a magic box on the Marketplace help areas. THIS is information on a prim in general from the Second Life wiki. Content Tab This tab shows the internal contents of the selected object. An object can contain any type of inventory item, including other objects which in turn have nested contents. There is no set limit on the number of items that can be placed inside an object, though if it in the hundreds, it can take some time to fetch or edit the contents. Adding items does get cumbersome however. If you sell more than one type of product, you might make a box for each of them OR make a new box as the years rolls around. You can also delete items that you no longer sell from the box. This might help you keep the number down some.
  10. Well first of all, crashes should not be an integral part of Second Life. I almost never crash but that is because I have a fairly hefty machine (new one is stellar) and a good connection. I ALSO have a hard wired modem connection which does help. I suspect that your system isn't really what SL would "like" to run well. Most of us have been there. Even many years ago most of the folks I knew that had just joined were forced to update their graphics cards in order to have a minimally optimal experience. You might try using an older viewer. Either the 1.23 linden viewer still available or some of the third party viewers. These are typically easier on your system. Sometimes OLD is the way to go. Other than that, rebooting between crashes might help. Good luck. Unfortunately not everyone's machine will run SL.
  11. Just a little SL background. Long, long ago in a faraway land ----- Alts WERE connected (or could be if they were "legal" alts) to a main account. An account was permitted to have five alts or five total (my old timer friend doesn't remember) and the main account was charged a $9.95 fee per alt. The alts didn't get a stipend or anything, they were just legal. This was at least four years ago, perhaps five. So at one time, alts were connected to a main account. I did quite a bit of research just now as I was interested on what the policy on alts currently is. There seems to be NO policy, at least I cannot find anything official. So I suspect that you would indeed need to connect each alt to a credit card and use the credit card for Payment Info Used status. Whether LL will let you use your same credit card? I have no idea. Worth a try I guess, or if you have more than one credit card that would probably be best. If anyone knows of the official position on alts now I would love to see a link to that info. Just curiosity .
  12. Agreed, Cinnamon. At least you are getting a clear message of what is most likely wrong. To find out WHICH graphics card you have (VERY IMPORTANT) you can go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Device Manager and click on Device manager. That will tell you what card you have. Then go to the manufacture's website and download a new driver. Win7 update may eventually update it for you if you have all your updates turned on, but who knows how long that might take. ALSO on the System window in the above path you can see whether you have 64 bit or 32 bit Win7 so that you get the correct driver.
  13. If you are a premium member you can send in a support ticket. Do it speedily. There is a possibility that he will come back in the Lost and Found or in the previous directory he was in, but a ticket would be good. https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/ Live chat might also help . PS. If kids have special inventory numbers like bunnies do (sorry never had a kid) than knowing that number would be important. OR the UUID.
  14. Well I have never been reported, but I suspect that before any action takes place you would be contacted. From your post it is difficult for me to tell what the actual issue was. I am not sure how you get something and not have paid for it. Anyway, that doesn't seem like something LL would be all that interested in. Stay cool. Keep all the documentation that you have (copy info from your transaction history as that disappears after a month). Put any conversations you may have record of or have logged into a notecard. Sit tight. The last issue that I reported (a land thing) took two months before LL got around to it. I suspect that their list of possible abusers is a long one. Hopefully, someone who has had issues and been reported can give you more info on this. If you did try and make it right, it seems like it is really a non-issue. Not everyone that reports abuse is correct .
  15. I don't actually know the technical issues behind this but it happens more often than you might expect. It is like the asset server has "forgotten" the texture in question. It is certainly likely that the sculpt worked fine with the designer put it up on the marketplace. I, personally have had several textures "disappear" from objects INSIDE my Magic Box. These were regular textures, not sculpts and I still had the texture that I used originally. I fixed the object for the person that bought it, found it faulty and contacted me. This same object, MONTHS later, after it had been fixed lost that same texture (this time on more sides of the object). I fixed it again and sent out new copies to everyone that bought the item in the last few months. I have little faith that it is actually fixed permanently. The texture was used in numerous other items that have never shown a problem, it is just ONE prim in one build that seems to lose it connection with the texture. I do not know HOW the asset server gets confused, but it does. I am a blogger and get lots of review items from designers. This happens to them also. It is not a "temp texture" issue (although it could possibly be that in your case as that is one possibility). Oftentimes the object was correct at one point. The designer may even have a copy of the same item (boxed) that went into the magic box (I did) with the object just fine. So my best and only advice would be to contact the person that made your object and explain what is happening. It may have happened to them before. If not, and they build a lot, it will certainly happen again. Well, maybe not CERTAINLY, but likely *wink*. They most likely would LIKE to know there is an issue. I have had issues (years ago) when I appeared to have a texture (my own and ones I picked up in classes) that was no longer viable. It could be viewed but not used. I, personally haven't seen that in a long while but it has happened. So not you, a problem that has been with us for years and seems to be getting more widespread. Good luck.
  16. Assuming you cannot go back to the older official viewer and that this was a mandetory update, you might try one of the many third party viewers on the official Linden Lab's list here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers If you are used to a Viewer 2 enviornment, you might try Kirsten's as that will be easier most likely than one of the viewers based on the old style. There have been other complaints about the new Viewer 2 that just came out, so you aren't alone. I know that doesn't help though. Frustration isn't fun. Good luck.
  17. Some third party viewers will let you look for objects from specific owners if you get that far. Imprudence does and I am pretty sure Phoenix does also. That might be worth looking into. You can also -- depending on who is using the land with you -- set up autoreturn so that you don't have stray objects around.
  18. If you cannot see that you have dollars in your account then there is an issue that you need to send in a ticket for. Normally sales happen close to instanteously. You DO need to process that money if you want to take it out of SL. You can send it to a Paypal account for a dollar which is good if you have an account. It does take some time processing however, so be prepared for a few days to a week.
  19. I have only used Viewer 2 once or twice, but I think there should be a destination bar on the bottom that let's even basic folks teleport to featured locales. Just in case you aren't quite ready to move into a more complex viewer and simply want to explore without confusion (or less anyway ) *wink*. Have fun!
  20. Smile. Welcome to the world of SL land. First off, you may find some answers in the wiki : http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Land_Buying_FAQ There are most likely as many opinions on buying land and which is "best" or more "prestigeous" as there are people here. But here are a few things I have learned from owning lots of different homes and shops since coming to our virtual land. Mainland is made up of several contents all owned by Linden Labs. You pay tier (like taxes or user fees) to LL dierectly. Here is where you can buy a 512 parcel with free rent. 512 isn't big and you don't get many prims, but it is a start. There are some mainland sims that are "double prim" sims in that they are planned with open space and the land comes with a prim bonus. Hence a 512 lot gives you 234 prims instead of 117. Bay City would be an example. You can search for MAINLAND: Search> Land Sales> (type) For Sale - Mainland. Estate land is privately owned meaning that someone bought a full sim or a group of sims and they then "lease" areas to others. You never really actually own the land, but you often have all the rights of ownership including resale rights. READ THE COVENANT (always) before purchasing Estate land as the rules vary widely. There are themed (and unthemed) communities that are double prim (or more) . These are my personal favorites as I actaully LIKE rules and a pleasant environment. Prestige is very subjective. I would say that land with lots of open waterways would be one type. This gives people living there lots of vista and fewer neighbors, and if you like to boat - even better. Check Bohol on the map and note that prices for lots (when available like in summer) are high. This is mainland. It should be noted that prices vary widely for no reason at all. Some folks put huge (like $200,000) prices on tiny lots -- just for fun I suspect. I think the best way to find what works for you is to spend days looking at what is available, reading covenenats (private land only) and watching the map to see what sells. Summer is normally a good time to buy as there are fewer active members in SL then. Have fun exploring!
  21. I agree. You have really done your homework so to speak and been very clear on what ISN'T the problem. The only thing I can think of to try would be: 1. Logging onto SL from a RL friend's computer which hopefully goes from their HOME and not the school. This should tell you if it is the connection. 2. Logging onto the BETA grid instead of the live grid and see if you still crash. Those things won't solve your problem, but might give you a better idea where the problem lies. I can't see what graphics card you are using (or it is too early for me and I missed it on two reads) but if it is an integrated card, that may be part of the issue. The machine may be cool enough but the graphics card simply can't cope and shuts down. There have been folks with that problem.
  22. I am not sure if your "Toxic City" is actually Toxian City , but in case it is the webpage for that RP area (stellarly impressive by the way) is here: http://www.toxiancity.com/ It states that you can join a faction from the website. Good luck.
  23. Well I can see even less than you on Imprudence 1.4 current new release. When I tried to zoom out I got a checkerboard effect for that region and then abruptly crashed. So there does seem to be an issue. It was VERY good that you explained fully as the map often acts weird for awhile and then is OK again. This seems to be a different issue. Sometimes, it isn't US .
  24. You didn't say if you logged on before with this computer, but if it is an older one, it is likely that it isn't powerful enough to run SL. You might try a third party viewer 1.x style or try the 1.23 Linden Lab viewer as they use less resources. I can still log into SL on my old notebook using an old Imprudence viewer. It may be that your graphics card isn't up to running SL; that is frequently the weak link. Requirements: https://secondlife.com/my/support/system-requirements/ Here is the page on alternate and older viewers: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers
  25. You didn't specify if this is mainland or estate land. With mainland there are NO covenants so anyone can put anything anywhere as long as it isn't breaking the Terms of Service. Assuming this is estate land, unless the covenant states that only one club can be in a sim, a second (or third) club could arrive. I lived in an estate sim once with three clubs on the sim. So, if you want to be the ONLY club on a sim you would need to buy your own sim or talk to the estate owner before purchasing about changing the covenant so you would be the only club. That's what I know
