  1. The Second Life viewer is available for many thousands of individual hardware- and operating system- variations. It is very difficult to make a program with so many features as the Second Life Viewer work on any thinkable device, and alot of things often do not work as expected, mostly due to permanent development of the codebase. The code of Second Life is changed many times a week, to provide a better and more stable environment, with more and more intelligent features, and to make it more difficult for griefers and spammers to bother Second Life's residents. This sadly often also leads to the introduction of new bugs and glitches, which take some time to even identify them and make them reproducable. There are engineers who do test every feature with certain pre-defined hard- and software environments. But no-one can test such a complex system under all ever possible conditions. The Lindens do make sure that the Viewer runs smoothly on system XY, but there will always be some other system which has issues. The only way that we - the residents - can help, is to reliably report issues that we can reproduce, the moment we identify them. During many years doing technical support, talking to users of all kind of software, I know for sure, that most issues are some problems on the user's end. Like for example they've never updated their drivers or software. Yesterday I talked to someone who was using Firefox 4 and had issues browsing the internet (the current up-to-date version is Firefox 25). The Second Life Viewer is *not* intended to help people solving their PC-issues. Since it's a very complex software, it requires some technical understanding - as sad that fact is - and also even maybe some investment, in form of the purchase of a compatible device. You would not buy an Android device when you plan to use it only for SL, for example. When you want a device that's for sure compatible with Second Life, buy a new Windows 8 PC with a high-end AMD or NVIDIA graphics card, and a fast SSD hard drive.
  2. Hello lovergirl243, you can view the text in your chat log folder, you can locate it by navigating to Menu Me-> Preferences-> Chat in the viewer, and copy-paste the folder-path from "Location" into your Windows Explorer.
  3. Hello LishaJoya, yes in case that you are still using the legacy magic boxes, the original item that was in the box will be delivered to the buyer (of course if it's a no-copy item only, for copy-able items, the buyer will get a copy/duplicate of the item).
  4. Hello Ori, in the flexi-prim-settings you can also adjust the wind sensitivity. Since there is almost always wind blowing in Second Life regions, you should see the effect immediately.
  5. Hello currier31, Web profiles are having issues today (although they are marked as fixed now), please try again in a couple of hours. (Reference: http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2013/10/29/post2093/ ) Or just refresh the page a couple of times on my.secondlife.com/USERNAME in your regular web-browser.
  6. Hello LexxiSixx, you can define which parts of your profile information only friends can see, on this page: https://my.secondlife.com/de/settings/privacy Calling Cards are part of the other resident's inventory, so you cannot remove them. They can always see your legacy profile on world.secondlife.com as long as it exists, even from outside SL when they are not logged in, e.g. here's mine: http://world.secondlife.com/resident/98210214-85fe-4c75-8464-056f1366110b.
  7. Hello Brightful, check if they are hidden behind the toolbar buttons. A current bug can lead to in-viewer-windows opening behind them. Just remove the toolbar buttons for a moment, to check if the profile-windows are hidden behind them.
  8. You can fix the following warning (and follow-up crash) of Mac OS X 10.7.5: "The app Secondlife unexpectedly quit while trying to restore windows. Do you want to restore?" like this: Click Spotlight and type "terminal." Press Enter In the Terminal window, type: rm -rf ~/Library/"Saved Application State"/com.secondlife.indra.viewer.savedState Close terminal Test the viewer
  9. Hello Jyrgen, please try the following: in the viewer's login screen, select Me -> Preferences -> Graphics -> Advanced from the menu and untick "Basic shaders", then click Apply -> Ok and log in. If the issue persists then, it's most likely that it's an issue with your graphics driver. In that case, your best option is to roll your driver back to a previous version - you find all previous driver-packages here http://www.nvidia.de/Download/Find.aspx?lang=de also you could try to replace the gpu-table in the viewer's program directory with this one (it's a more up-to-date table modded from Firestorm's gpu-table) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43361170/gpu_table.zip Good luck, and to add additional information, please use the menu at the top of this page ('options') to edit your original post, thank you!
  10. Hello NatalieHeart83, your graphics card is not compatible with V3 (with the latest offical Second Life viewer). You can try to use one of the more light-weight third-party viewers like Radegast (you can also try Singularity and Cool VL Viewer - http://sldev.free.fr/ ), here's the official page: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  11. Hello CaileeAnn, assuming that you've already downloaded and installed the Second Life viewer: to make Firefox recognize Second Life links (so-called "SLURLS"), click on the Tools menu in Firefox, navigate to Options >> Applications. Scroll down to Secondlife in the "Content Type" list, then open the open the dropdown menu in the "Action" column and select Use Other ... . Search for your viewer's exe file (in a folder like C://Programs/Second Life), select that file (SecondLife.exe) and close the window.
  12. Hello DapperMuis, I think it would be possible that you're wearing a scripted attachment which drags your avatar through the region. Can you check the 'Wearing' tab in your Outfit - folder for any suspicious item, take them off and try if the issue is cleared then.
  13. The AMD Catalyst crash (BUG-3487) basically makes the viewer crash right after login for everyone with the latest AMD drivers (Catalyst 13.5+ to anything above) - only Catalyst 13.4 or older is unaffected. I reported the issue on August 2nd in the Jira, and LL is working on a fix internally. Nicky D from Firestorm wrote a fix http://hg.phoenixviewer.com/phoenix-firestorm-lgpl/rev/e625d82e37e6 - and therefore Firestorm doesn't have this bug. So users who are affected by this crash-issue right after login after their Windows updated their drivers (or they did a manual update), they can either use Firestorm, or downgrade to Catalyst 13.4: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/13/Pages/radeon.aspx?os=Windows%20Vista%20-%2064-Bit%20Edition&rev=13.4
  14. Hello Carmine, this sounds like the Catalyst crash. In case you are using an AMD/ATI card, please downgrade your graphics drivers to Catalyst 13.4 (link: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/13/Pages/radeon.aspx?os=Windows%20Vista%20-%2064-Bit%20Edition&rev=13.4 ). Linden Lab is working on a fix for the bug internally. You can either use Catalyst 13.4 (or older) until this gets fixed, or use Firestorm Viewer (link: http://www.firestormviewer.org/ )- they already implemented a fix a while ago.

  16. The 2GB AMD HD 7850 is pretty good for Second Life, and not as expensive as other modern cards: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7850/Pages/radeon-7850.aspx Here an example on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/PowerColor-256-bit-CrossFireX-AX7850-2GBD5-DH/dp/B0083W9KXA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1379468961&sr=8-2&keywords=HD+7850

Hello Xhyphira, you're most likely using Mobile Grid Client to connect to the Second Life grid. I'm pretty sure because I am using it myself (with my Android tablet pc) and it costs 250L$ / month in the standard version (I use the pro version, though - which costs 450L$ / month): http://www.mobilegridclient.com/licensing/ Mobile Grid Client is a third party software, and therefore it's legit that they charge a very small amount to keep their service up and working (they need to host servers where a bot is being logged in for you, to make it possible that you stay logged in even if you have a weak connection on your mobile end - it would hardly be possible to stay logged in with a mobile device otherwise, as Second Life is not compatible with cellular networks or even WiFi). While Second Life is free, some third-party-viewers (especially for mobile devices) charge a small amount to pay for their own expenses (server hosting for the bots which you basically rent). Mobile Grid Client does not use Linden Lab software at all (unlike typical desktop-third-party-viewers like Firestorm/Exodus/Singularity or Cool VL Viewer which get 90% to 99% of their software from Linden Lab's Open Source program) so it's their right to charge as much as they like for their service. MGC (Mobile Grid Client) on the device's end consists only of a login-routine (since the Second Life ToS don't allow your password to be transmitted to MGC's servers, so the login has to happen directly on your mobile device) on your device plus an interface with only text-input-fields, buttons, lists and pictures. After being logged in directly through your device, the client-session is then transferred to MGC's servers which take over your client session on a bot software (as far as I know it's a LibOpenMetaverse-bot: http://lib.openmetaverse.org/wiki/Main_Page ) which sends any incoming Chatmessages and Instant-Messages (or group-IMs) to your mobile device, and forwards any messages that you want to send to others. Also it can do teleports on request, and search for other residents. I have only seen this form of payment with independent mobile clients. MGC is capable of logging in to all Second Life and Open Sim grids. I hope this explains a little. Here is a list of other Third-Party client software which make it possible to connect to the Second Life grid (agni): https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  18. Hello Muse, this is a residents-only forum, we cannot help you with this kind of issue. To get a refund, either contact support (but I personally doubt that they will refund you, since you already got the items in your inventory) at https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/ Or - I think this will be the best solution - to contact the merchants where you bought the items, and explain your situation, and ask them for a refund. Good luck!
  19. In addition to what Rolig said, you can also change your display name, see: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Usernames-and-display-names/ta-p/700173
  20. Hello Duane, please try the following: download this GPU table: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43361170/gpu_table.zip - it's the current GPU table from Firestorm, and will work on V3 And replace the existing gpu_table.txt file in C:\Program Files (x86)\SecondLifeViewer with the file in the zip-archive. Let us know if that helped (use the options-menu at the top of this page to update your post with additional information). Good luck!
  21. Hello Carleyxo, I would recommend that you visit https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ and report "Region Performance Issues" (don't forget to provide the name of that region). Fill in "Land & Region"->"Region Performance Issues" from the dropdowns. Support will then restart the region and do everything to fix the issue. Good luck!
  22. Hello Aston, please refrain from publishing information about other people's business or accusation in the Answer-forums, this is a public forum, we are definately no Lindens here - only residents just like you. If you think you have caught a copybotter, please file an Abuse Report and let the Lindens deal with it. You can look up the instructions on how to file an Abuse Report here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Filing-an-abuse-report/ta-p/700065 Thank you.
  23. Hello Erin, there is no age verification anymore. Just go to Me->preferences -> general in your viewer to modify the content-rating you want to have access to (the dropdown which says "I want to access content rated:")
  24. Hello Verri, go to Menu Me->Preferences->Graphics and increase your draw distance there.
