  1. ABOUT THE ROLE Bay City Studios is seeking a Voice Actor (likely a Second Life Resident) to fill a voice role for an ongoing Machinima fantasy YouTube series, Namara. Episodes will be released bi-weekly (ish) for Season 1 and featured on the Bay City Studios website as well as Youtube, Twitter, Flickr, BlueSky. We anticipate 1 to 3 ‘sessions’ for this role over the course of 2024. ‘Sila’ is a roguish assassin that was trained at the Silencia Syladeum (epic rouge academy) in the realm of Koldroon. She joined House NyteStalker - a clan of bounty hunters that scavenge the lands for their victims. As a reward for her service to her House, she was ‘granted the gift of eternal life’ by becoming a sha-zette (vampire). Her lover is Amarok, the werewolf, and she currently works in a small group of Nytestalkers under her commander, Murda. She’s fast talking, snarky, and resourceful and her over all ‘look’ holds a ‘dark elf’ feel. See above for a preview. REQUIREMENTS You will be given a rough draft of the episode that will be released next (In production - Scheduled for 1/3/24). The script you are to read will display, in words, over the top of the footage. Notes about how the lines should be delivered are provided in the video as well. We require that at least three versions of your voice recording be delivered within five days (1/9/24). (Three versions gives us options to use during the editing process.) We have some voice actors that decide to add their acting as they watch the episode - three times. We have some actors that pause the video as they read, and say the line then, three times (in three different ways) for their recording. We ask that you be prepared to provide one round of ‘revisions’ - just in case we need a specific line delivered a specific way. (We’ve never done this, but just in case…) All actors MUST have a high quality microphone to record audio (We aren’t specific about the microphone you have, but know that audio samples are required in the application. One of our actors use a headset, one uses an ASMR mic, and one uses their iPhone. If you are unsure, record something and send it over.) SKILLS NEEDED No experience necessary English Speaking Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with directors and producers. Acting skills, creativity and imagination to bring characters to life in audio recordings. Confidence to captivate audiences. Ability to take direction and incorporate feedback into performances. Ability to maintain deadlines COMPENSATION: $1,000 Linden Dollars per session For more information, apply here!
  2. The last part of Episode 1 of Namara! If you want to watch all 30 minutes of the episode at once (with all the transitions and everything) , you can with this link! It's my favorite version!
  3. Pic is from my Twitter account. Thread here: And yeah if you keep reading in the thread, I think Eve and Soft are right. I'm not sure you can stream SL on Twitch (but watching the VTuber thing has been REALLY eye opening). And it sucks to see SL next to all those names.
  4. I needed a video for my new websites front page - I present to you the Bay City Studio's promo!
  5. Episode 1: A ("Isekai") Episode 1:B ('The Key')
  6. A girl arrives in a strange world with even stranger monsters afoot.
  7. A little furry Halloween love story ❤️
  8. Collaboration with Gonje Anton - a Bay City Studio's Production filmed in Second Life. For all of you Shakespeare purest out there, this was a work of love. You'll notice we toyed with Titania's monologue a little bit. Sorry if the pronunciations weren't 100%!!! We tried! Check it our here in HD!
  9. I had the same problem with Camtasia - I actually started there a year ago! ❤️ Might I suggest Streamlabs or OBS Studio to record? (Both are free! And allow you to record high quality raw footage) You can hide the curser with both of those, too, on any browser. Then edit the footage with Camtasia when you are done!
  10. Filmed on Second Life mainland in beautiful Bay City - no greenscreens (Firestorm - Streamlabs)
  11. This makes a ton of sense! I started using a different program (I was using OBS Studio before but now I’m using from Streamlabs). It may be a settings thing that I’m not aware of, but the difference was amazing - I was able to film high graphics skating down Bay City roads with draw distance up to at least 400…shadows and projectors and it was crisp and beautiful. Even when Firestorm said I was at somewhere between 13 and 25 ‘fps’. We gotta do another interview sometime Jackson, and let me pick your brain about machinima stuff now that I know more!
  12. The first is my 'old Bessy' that I use to log multiple avatars in on graphics really low....or to just play around and build during day to day stuff. It's a laptop, so it gets really hot...I try not to crank it to high for too long if I don't have to. Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz RAM 32.0 GB 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 with Max-Q Design The second is the one I do most of my filming and editing on. 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700F 2.10 GHz RAM 32.0 GB 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER That makes sense! I was filming a video a few weeks ago and I had the BIGGEST fight with this waterfall - I'd get near the thing, and my FPS would just tank.
  13. Does my FPS have anything to do with the type of region I’m in? Will a full region have a more stable FPS? Will it be higher? Is that the difference with those ‘mega fancy event’ regions? I ask because for 4K filming with machinima, I learned (and can confirm) that I need at least 30 fps for the footage to look good enough to edit. For context, my computer is new (loads of ram, dedicated ram, great graphics card, and tons of hard drive space.) I work from home, so remote meetings are common. I also stream video/shows on multiple devices in my home without an issue. I’m hard lined on business level internet, so my net is usually pretty solid. This hasn’t been a problem until recently (when I started filming all my raws in 4K), but I find getting that FPS up is harder to achieve these days … even on my own empty homestead. I’m pretty good at manipulating my graphics and I most often use Firestorm. I use a homestead for a lot of things I film, but the stuff I love to film is out in the mainland and getting my FPS that high with shadows and any draw distance has been a real challenge. Any help anyone can provide would be awesome! ❤️
  14. I started thinking about how important the lights were in this last machinima short I made - the entire mood wouldn't have been possible without some sort of lighting feature in the right places with the right colors/glow/shine/etc. My husband has some RL experience with lighting for a stage, and I was surprised by how much he was teaching me about light set up and position translated straight from 'the real life stage' to a virtual one. What kind of 'real life filming tricks' have you found particularly useful when making your own machinima creations?
  15. A quick little machinima inspired by one of my favorite dance numbers from long ago URL LINK:
  16. “Are we going to start going through the content produced by other SL residents on Flickr, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, and deride or denigrate it because it's not doing LL's job for them?” 100% this. Especially starting a whole forum post about it? I mean really? What a great way to get new people to never try anything ever….. or ever post anything they have ever done about Second Life. Are we just taking everyone’s passion and making forums threads to rip them on it? Is that the new plan we are doing to ‘build the community up’? What is this post…. a Mean Girls flashback from high-school? Last I checked it’s not Wednesday and we can wear pink whenever we want.
  17. Nope! I purchased three different tango style animations and played with the speeds in Premiere Pro and with the Firestorm Animation speed features. Then tried to obsessively line them up LOL
  18. JACKSON!!! YO! It's been a min! I will 100% go look at it if you recommended it. Does it have good documentation, etc? Do I still have the same bells and whsitles...like can I make things brighter, sharper, and play with speeds?
  19. This! Dance videos are ‘easier’ to make because you don’t have to hunt down as many animations to ‘complete the story’, but Chic is right - there are soooooo many of them. I’m pretty new to the scene too, but happy to share some things I’ve learned! I use OBS to film (free) and just upgraded to Premiere Pro (I pay the monthly fee cause I’m cheap), and I’ll likely stick with both until I find something better. Premiere Pro was the only thing I could find that would give me an edited outcome that was ‘sharp enough’ - all my files coming out of Camtasia were always a little fuzzy. Film all the stuff! I started practicing at a club I go to sometimes and it was super helpful in teaching me about lag, textures, graphics, and how often all that stuff refreshes in world. There is a Machinima Monday group that meets in world - I don’t get to go often cause of RL work, but I’ve been once and it was really cool! A group of film makers get together, share stuff they have made, encourage each other, and share help/feedback. I was able to find other people to watch and learn from, and that’s been really helpful for me. Happy filming! Can’t wait to see your stuff!
  20. URL to the video to watch One of the things that makes the Argentine Tango so special is the amazing footwork - the way their legs weave in around each other with flicks and kicks as they dance. I tried to capture it here, but it's a 'whole other ball game' to film two avatars dancing together at the same time with that kind of footwork. o.0 I hope I did it justice! ❤️ It sure was fun to film!
