Indeed. I hate the manipulativeness of ads, and it's difficult to believe they actually think such bizarre ads would sell more. I can't even remember why I saved these 2 in particular...they were supposed to be part of another thread...somewhere...

It could be women back then were influenced by the smoking ads, thinking they were more independent and 'like men'.  Sad.

Look at the things that go into adds these days as well..

There was a women's movement back then as well.. A lot of those places were doing what a lot are doing today.. Appeasing to certain groups to either stay alive or tap into that market.
