Yeah, no.  Local chat has been hit or miss depending on where you are since I've been here.  Maybe disabling it on some regions (is that even possible?) could be done but overall, not a good idea.  Many merchants only use IM to communicate with customers or employees.  Maybe the only day this week they can log in is NO IM day.  I'm sure they could use Discord but again, that's outside SL so what would be the point?

If anything, voice has been the biggest killer of local chat.

Should be entirely possible to turn off IM's on parcels or regions if the option is coded in server side. Turn off or even auto divert to offline message. Merchants could then still communicate with customers but it would not distract them from the local channel.

It does not matter what idea is presented, some are going to be impacted negatively in the short term but if it slows and reverses the resident attrition rate then it will result in a long term benefit to all.

Merchants who are working while online that one day. By themselves.  Not wanting to TP 15 customers to their parcel.  While they're working.  Blocking IMs on one day will have no impact on user retention, IMO.  Blocking per parcel at one's discretion, I'd actually like that.

IMs to email is notorious for failing and limited to 15(?) if not premium.
