Create an alt, or leave your main logged in 24/7. Either method destroys the value of online status.

Well, the best way of not being seen online is not going online. But that defeats the purpose I guess.

If you object to your friends being able to see when you get online, then are they even friends?
And if they are NOT friends, then mute them and be done with it.

Tracking your online status can be done by anyone, friend or not.  It doesn't even require a specialized HUD.

You can remove the notification that your Friends get to show that you're on line, in the Friends window (this notification is turned on by default).  However, it's still easy for them to find out if you are on line or not.

I scripted some adboards way back when, there is no way to avoid a scripted object knowing you have come online.
