Ebbe's Norwegian, but then Swedish/Norwegian/Danish don't have an umlaut either, technically. Unlike German letters, in which the accent is a separate entity, the letters that use it in Scandinavian languages are actually unique letters. The alphabets each contain 29 letters, not 26.

BTW, you may recall that the all of these high-bit characters were outlawed (although not everywhere in the forums) as part of a campaign to rid the forums of spammers. It seems to have worked, or at least the spammers are gone. Linden Lab may be reluctant to take a chance of opening that door again.

Yes, the umlaut O and A are actually included as unique letters in the Swedish alphabet but not in the German. We don't have them at all in Norway though, we use Æ and Ø instead and so do the Danes.

I think you'll find Ebbe is Swedish rather than Norwegian though. ;)

Just a reminder - The general availability of the various language special characters was made limited a few years back as one of many steps in eliminating the horrible Sports Book / Scam Offers / Pornographic Redirect / Sex Worker / Escort spam we were all dealing with primarily in the English speaking Forums.

These characters were being used as substitute characters to get around the keyword filters that LL had in place to try to deal with this problem.

I have no idea if this [special Character] blockage is still required as only LL knows how it is proactively dealing with any attempts to pollute the Forums with this kind of Spam these days.
