There are many ways for you to earn linden, you can fish for linden, hunt for linden, http://www.e2l-net.com/ is one of them, altho if you just go to Google.com and search for it i'm sure you will find many more ways.

Unless you are a skilled creator or performer, or have a store with guaranteed continuouis income, you'll have a very hard time earning enough L$ to pay for rent on land.  And there is no such thing as "free land" in SL, just as there isn't in RL.  If you want land, the smart move is to skip lunch once a week, save the money, and bring it into SL to buy L$.  You ought to be able to cover the rent for the price of a Big Mac.

So, go to the Lindex and buy it. It will cost you $2.00 US. That's less than I pay for a cup of coffee every morning. All you have to do is save your own coffee money.

 

Besides ..... Nobody NEEDS L$500. You might want it, but there are so many free things in SL that you can get along just fine with absolutely no money at all. If you start begging for L$ in SL, you will find yourself very quickly ejected from groups and banned from land.

Terry, you can BUY $L.  You can EARN $L.  But $L are NOT FREE.  Oh sure, you can beg people to send you money, like some of the responders in this thread.  And you can win $L in some games or contests.

But in general, because $L can be exchanged for real world money, they have value, and are therefore not free.  Just as land is not free.  Not in Real Life, and not in Second Life either.  However, take heart.  Both land and money are a LOT cheaper in SL than they are in the real world.

There are places on the grid where you can earn L$ such as Linden Realms, Paleo Quest or there's  systems like Meetro or Bletaverse cones where you can earn and explore even some huds that will allow you to earn a bit of L$. If you have long term use of land some Ad boards will pay per click 

It's very possible through these L$ earning methods if you keep them up every day that you could make enough to rent a modest plot of land
