  1. The same way you get US Dollars for free, because you're asking that same question.

    windows 8

Most people choose an operating system based on the software they want to use, not the other way around. You might consider that strategy.
  3. Stop running so many other programs in the background (ie, tray lint), get more memory or switch away from Windows.
  4. Well, you probably shouldn't be using IE to begin with anyway.
  5. Hadn't noticed issues tonight; sure it's not localized to your ISP or your computer?
  6. Should do fine with the ATI. As usual, you can squeeze more out of it and save money by ordering it with no OS and putting your choice of Linux distribution on it.
  7. Check for avatar options about pointing at objects. That said, it's probably best to leave it on, as it gives a body language cue to others that you're building and it's probably not best to interrupt.
  8. The system requirements are a minimum required to run, not a maximum. Raising the bar doesn't help anyone.
  9. Singularity is also a strong option.
  10. Yes, you can, but it needs to be the kind you can set a billing address on. This is a "using credit cards online" requirement, not a Linden thing.
  11. This is one of many good reasons why builders and clothing makers should do their best to go with the smallest textures that gets the job done: Economy is a virtue. That, and network lag for folks on slow connections and bandwith costs for people on metered connections.
  12. You'll probably do better on Linux. Get the machine with no OS preinstalled and get your distribution of choice on there from a USB key.
  13. Not on this grid, but if you have your own server with a dedicated connection, OSGrid will let you connect it for free. But you end up having to do all the ongoing hardware maintenance, keep it connected to electricity and bandwidth yourself.
  14. Hit their office during their office hours, or if you know of thier in-world responsibilities (not all Lindens have a need to log in on-the-clock) you might hang where they're likely to show up. For example, Rodney Linden often logged into welcome areas for network testing purposes. Now and then I stumble on Michael Linden paving a road or installing highway guardrails, laying track or terraforming a mainland region. If you do find one and you want to talk to them, be polite and patient. They're on the job, and you're in their workplace. Don't take it personally if they bamf off or don't respond to you, they're on the clock, and like any other job, how many people and how much time they spend socializing is likely not a metric used to measure success in their core responsibilities. Take the hint and either file a ticket and/or bug off depending on the situation. Generally standing several meters back away from what their working on, somewhere between their 3 and 6 o'clock and within local chat distance, and politely let them know you'd like a moment of their time in the local chat. Most of the Lindens I've encountered strongly prefer local chat over voice.
  15. It takes some trial and error to find what is comfortable to you. Start in the middle and make small adjustments until you find what works for you.
  16. Virtual Native Lands is one place to start generically. I know one of the western sims (I can't remember which) does have a relatively authentic Cherokee RP component. I greatly encourage you to be sensitive to the differences in language, culture and traditions between tribes, and ask lots of questions if you're not sure if you want folks to respect you and your tribe (American or otherwise).
  17. For best results, adjust your attitude.
  18. This is actually two questions that should have been posted seperately, but here's your two answers anyway: You didn't provide enough information to really answer this one. The Beta Grid is a snapshot of the live grid, periodically updated, but not persistent. Money on this grid doesn't exist, so the whole linden balance is there for testing purposes, not actual transactions.
  19. You're streaming a virtual reality in realtime. Try turning your bandwidth settings down to minimum, turn off media streams, voice and set your draw distance to 128 or less.
  20. Probably a bad idea to use it at all in those circumstances, but turn your bandwidth to minimum, and turn your draw distance down to 128 or less, turn off video and audio streaming, and turn off voice.
  21. sudo m-a a-i fglrx (for AMD chips) sudo m-a a-i nvidia (for nVidia chips) You were saying?
  22. Debian and Ubuntu use the same installer. If you have an internet connection and have ever installed Windows before, you'll find Debian to be very easy-breezy by comparison. There's even a handy online installer.
  23. You might find it easier to use Debian (what the Lindens use) or Ubuntu (a popular Debian-derived distribution) instead.
  24. So we're ignoring that even Adobe is trying to kill Flash at this point? Don't do it.
