  1. As soon as I heard about it, I immediately went and put my feed settings on 'nobody' and it's going to stay that way. This isn't facebook, nor do we need it to be IMO. I hate facebook, and I don't want it being part of my SL, in fact I just deactivated my FB account last week, fake name and all To me, it's a richer world if my friends live here with me. That means actually being inworld and within seeing distance of my avatar to be interactive with me. Plenty of other text only based options are available if I need them. I really wish the time and energy would have been used to improve actual grid functionality and solve some of the bugginess that's been going on for weeks as mesh and the V2 age is ushered in.
  2. If you're getting it on more than one avi and others are not,my 1st thought is the cache, and that's really just a guess. But it does seem to point to your local PC settings somehow rather than a grid problem. Usually when that happens to me, an alt can make the trip no problem. I just went to firestorm myself but I never did use phoenix, so I can't really say from experience if any of the data would have carried over.
  3. Really depends on the situation IMO, and the people/persons present. They can be fun, entertainaing, expressive, informative and all sorts of positives. Not to mention just convieniant if you happen to have a job that requires making periodic announcements. I think largely most people seem to be too intolerant of those having fun with gestures. We need to remember that is why we are here in the 1st place...to enjoy ourself. Also don't be too quick to breathe fire on the people that shoot off a gesture that seems obscene for the situation. Many of these are loaded into freebie packs and not labeled so a new person would have any clue what text or sound they put in local chat. Sure, they should maybe test it elsewhere, but heh, unless you're running a church or funeral for someone, lighten up a bit. It was probably an honest mistake..and if it wasn't? Who the hell really cares in the long run, lol. If nothing else it's a wake up call to check your own sense of humor. You do have one, right? (not 'you' the poster of this thread, the proverbial 'you') One of my fave SL DJ's of all time, who also happened to have a very good on the air voice was also known for his incredible ability to do an entire shift, responding to everything said in text chat with an appropriate gesture. It was uncanny. You could say almost anything to him and get a humorous gesturized response. I can honestly only recall a couple times where I found gestures to be truly annoying and that was instances where people came into a location and just kept doing the same gesture over and over and laughing at themself...was like a kid that just discovered playdough. Otherwise heh. whatever.I think most of the new veiwers actually let you block gestures now, don't they?
  4. Thanks people. exactly what I came to find. Guess I will stop breaking things more by trying to fix them and just wait a few days. Incedently I asked others around me and the emotes generally do appear correctly to others. It's just our own veiw of the local chat that is corrupted by the bug. Disconcerting I know to see it wrong but at least now you know all those epeople that hate the tummy talkers are probably still seeing the emotes exactly like you want them to uh, except for Lyra
  5. lol, Thanks everyone for keeping this thread good natured and fun. I've been looking in on it but not over-opping Loved the comments, all of em. While I may never actually hunt meeroo myself (too busy doing other stuff) I may find the time at some point to assemble a cookbook of tasty meeroo cuisine. Since SL has put me in contact with people from all over the globe, I reckon it wouldn't be a huge undertaking to gather a collection of tempting meeroo recipees from every continent!
  6. Hehe, yes. Well a way for people to make money I guess, or attempt to. And I know...I inadvertantly helped that cause by drawing attention to it. Post was actually inspired by a recent convo I had with someone who was breeding. He was hoping to get 'a good one' so he could sell it for big bucks. Meanwhile half his club had been transformed into a meeroo habit and the things were everywhere. 500L a pop for the unwanted ones. I nearly bought one out of sheer compassion, till I came to my senses. I've seen some people complain of lag that are near people breeding but I honestly have not seen any direct impact myself when I have been near breeding areas of anything. Hunting/poaching may actually be a form of population control and a way to get others in on the gravy train, if it were implimented Lag or no, if you live near a breeding ground of any sort, it can be an eye-sore if not very well maintained. The problem is - cute domesticated animals. No one wants them harmed. No one would take issue if I were to breed for instance - GIANT TARANTULAS! ...and make them huntable. (I've had one as a pet in RL BTW, though it was normal sized. Very few have the capacity to love such critters)
  7. Mags Indigo wrote: Prove it :smileytongue: Well, I don't share my personal RL info on the net but I can tell you this... In the year 2000, there were over 80,000 strays in the metro Detroit area alone. That's not including ones in foster homes and places like anti-cruelty, Humane society and greyhound rescue. I can only imagine that statistic has climbed drastically rather than decreasd. For those that have the option, I encourage anyone to consider giving a home to a real animal rather than a virtual one if your choice is one or the other. They will love you forever. Still...these meeroos are making me want to punch my screen, lol
  8. There's some public roads on mainland. A couple of them are right near my home. Search for route 9. You can walk/ride/sightsee for many miles without getting tossed back to where-ever, and there's the odd place here and there where you can rez a vehicle. I recomend something like a horse though as walking is very slow and driving a car causes issues when crossing a sim line. Just watch out for the scripted traffric. Don't want your horsie to get runned over. I'm really glad whoever undertook these projects chose to do so and I really wish there was more of this type of thing. I like to explore too, which is why I leave my land barriers off. It's enough to have scripts and rezzing set to group. Someone crossing the lot doesn't bother me. After all, I'm here to have fun and meet people. If I see them, I will usually go out and chat with them a while
  9. oh.my gawd, I am SO sick of these things already! :matte-motes-sick: I want to hunt them! Yes! I want to shoot their cute little faces and skin them and sell the pelts so someone can make meeroo fur coats! I want there to be meeroo poaching in SL. I want to be a meerooo poacher! I want to be able to get 30,000 linden on the black market for rare meeroo fur! I want to unleash legions of fire imps to invade meeroo habitats and turn them into scorched and smoldering dens of ash and chared soil. I want to... well, you get the idea *disclaimer: The above was meant in jest. IRL I'm an avid animal lover and have fostered pets in my home as well as done vuolunteer work with homeless animals.
  10. OFGS, can we not just hush up and enjoy the view? It's a cartoon! If you don't like it, DON'T WATCH, LMAO Reminds me of a place I worked that undertook the oh-so-silly task of having employees police how short a girls panties were allowed to be. Don't want to see my cheeks? Why is your cam up my skirt!? Teens? lol. If I had a teen that couldn't figure out how to get themself adult verified under the current system within a matter of hours, I would seriously consider having them tested. That said. We aren't teaching them anything new. Most could teach us all sorts of ways to have fun again. And I hate living in the air. I keep my sex bed in my house ON THE GROUND with the security set to OFF. I also love to ride nude on horseback cross-country anywhere there isn't a security line. Sue me. But don't try telling me my horse don't cover more than most of the panties I can buy off the marketplace.
  11. If such a list were in the comunity spirit, it would be allowed right here on the forums. It's not. For very good reasons. I do concur that yes, sometimes it's necesary to eject or ban an avatar or make some settings more restrictive, sometimes for a limited time). And for extreme things, AR's. Doesn't make me cop though, just someone that manages a piece of land. So much of what is considered grief is personal differences between the specific people and may not even apply to others at all. There's also a lot of things that are just misunderstandings because someone is new and doesn't understand that they have to either buy or rent that property to live in the cool looking house they found empty. I'm not unfamiliar with griefers though (the real ones) Once at a place I worked, we got greifed by (of all things) Santa! Guy was somewhere up in the air bombing the place and spamming ho ho ho this and that all over. Several staff members and sim 'security' were flying around trying to capture this joker in in misti tool traps, lol. None of it worked. What did work was 3 or 4 of us filed AR's and the guy was shut down in about 20 minutes
  12. Sarah Welch wrote: Just wanted to give all landowners a heads up. I have discovered a griefer in world who moves from place to place, building is little base of operation up in the sky on pieces of land he does not own or rent. I strongly suggest checking your prim counts and object lists on each and every piece of land you own that is sitting open to access by anyone. He started out doing this at sandboxes with long return times, but has found it easier to just find an unsuspecting owners piece of land to build on. I personally think this behavior is disgraceful, and above and beyond that he launches griefing attacks in this manner. Please help rid our world of one more trouble maker. I should add, he is presently targeting private island estates and homesteads and usually builds above 600 meters in the sky. I have found his squats as high as 3500 meters too, so check carefully.I have been keeping track of him through the ASN Stargate database. Every time he builds, he puts up a stargate....easy to track this way. ASN page link is below: http://www.alpha-fox.com/asn/db/ This... Anita61 Anatine wrote: Simple solution: make sure build on your land is set correctly, turn it off or set it to group. If you do want to allow other people to build, set a return time. If you have evidence of a griefing attack, file an abuse report and let the Lindens handle it. Ask the people who witness the attack do the same. I see some strong accusations in OP's post and zero proof. I also see a link to something and an implied suggestion that people stalk suspected griefers using some sort of offsite technology. Sorry but to me that's bigger grief than someone wanting to dump a sky full of styrofoam blocks on my head, and the very existance of such technology here and tolerance for the same is a much bigger real life security risk (not to mention privacy invasion) to every one of us than anything you might be trying to protect in a pixel world. Just AR it...and use your land and group settings in an appropriate way for your land Let's get back to having fun instead of playing internet cop thnx
  13. I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to handle intersecting roof sections where all sections are peaked and shingled. If you don't know what I mean, just visualise a bilding that is oriented like a cross. The two branches that go off would have to have their peaked roof pieces meet the angle of the other peaked roof section that is 90 degrees to it. It's a very common style in real life building but seems to be quite a head scratcher here. The only way I can think of short of getting into custom sculpties is to frame the entire roof with beams then hodge-podge in the shingles after, using triangular pieces where the intersections are. That could get really messy and also would be a nightmare of lining up the shingle texture properly from piece to piece.
  14. A word filter is really a non sollution if the goal is to have accuracy of sim content for sim rating. This really has nothing at all to do with wording or even the the pressence (or not) of profanity. let alone words that are simply slang. And there are much bigger consistancy issues than people listing musicians with colorful metaphores as the name of the act. Main point being, it's not what's said, it's what's being done there. And you don't know that unless you are there. Can't do it with a word filter. Just as an example, I've seen places that run event "Pimps and Ho's'. It's a dress-up contest. lol, no one there is actually pimping or Ho-ing. They are just dressing up like it and goofing off for a couple hours and having fun. If there were any actual pimpin and ho-in goin on, it would have no association with the event and would likely be happening if the event were something entirely different. Maybe less controversial, many places run neko events. These will get a large percentage of people who do not actually live the majority of their SL existance as neko but just grabbed a cool looking neko outfit for the event. Event finishes;tails and ears go to inventory where they collect dust for the next 3 months. And most importantly..The event did NOT turn the whole sim into a neko sim permanently, lol
  15. Well, try some time just zooming out the map and double clicking. See where you land. Sometimes it's not so great but I've discovered some very cool places doing that. Generally I start with the click then walk or ride my horse from wherever I land. I did so tonight and happened upon route 10 which is quite an interesting stretch of road, and ironically, after following it for almost an hour, I found myself just a couple parcels from my own home. Now why hadn't I found this before? I've ridden my horse around quite a bit. That wasn't the end of it, I inspected the map a little closer and saw that there was another road near my home also. I trotted Chessie across the field and picked up the other road which to my amazement, went underwater through a glass tunnel for the equivelent of what would be a couple miles were it real life. I continued on and soon came to a comunity and wound up talking with a friendly shop owner for about an hour. All in all a pleasant experience and it helped renew my sense of adventure. On the flipside, Mainland can be interesting in terms of those who happen along to your own place if you don't keep security that rival's fort knox. I've met some rather interesting folks that happened along. And yea, a handful had to be removed via the access list but generally not in my experience. Most are usually people just exploring around like I like to do. I'll usually go outside and speak to someone if I see them there. And then there was the time a couple decided they could live in the house because no one was home when they found it, lol. That kind of thing does happen but it's usually a good opportunity to teach newcomers a little about how SL works.

It's sad, but true. what else is sad but true is that this was probably the correct answer. Else we wouldn't be seeing bullhonky like new residents getting stuck with 'Resident' for a last name. And yes, that is one of the other reasons. anyhoo. gave ya correct answer points. cheers and as to your sig. Double the prims and half the rent and I'll consider it. I'm a prim junkie
  17. Phone support says they don't see the transaction in question. It's right on the top of my billing summary! For a week now I have been waiting for resolution to a ticket submitted over a lindenx transaction in which I recieved a confirmation of, show details at payal and a very clear record that nothing was recieved via LindenX. all info was loaded to an attached file on the original ticket. For this and other reasons, I'm about to dump my mailand holdings and go back to a basic account, IF I even stay here. They botched transaction RUINED my SL christmas. There's nothing they can do to rectify that, no matter what they try, but for godsake don't hold a person's money ransom while you scratch your head figuring out what went wrong. Yes, find the glitch but take care of the customer 1st. sheesh.Customer suppoert 101 GRRR
