  1. The sound of the Martian ships opening in the original radio broadcast of War of the Worlds was a mason jar lid being unscrewed from the jar...

Foley sound effects are a range of live sound effects originally developed for live broadcasts of radio drama in the early 1920s in various radio studios around the world. Because no effective recording method existed in those days, a sound effects person had to create all sounds for radio plays live.

    1. You don't create a collectibility factor - that's what collectibles are for. That's a whole other discussion.
    2. There is an entire category on the market place for Gacha items. Its use needs to be enforced and sub categories for it created. If neither is done, the category needs to be removed.
    3. Shunting them off to a whole different market or relegating their resale to an in world only location removes an entire potential set of customers/purchases. I personally would not have bought the few Gacha items I have if they where not on the marketplace.

    1. Agree.

    2. Agree, with the condition that if the category is removed, all gachas should also be removed. Not something I want to see happen.

    3. Agree except those who purchase only a few (or rarely purchase, if at all) are not the target market. It's the ones who, for lack of a better way to put it at the moment, collect gachas.

Please note, that the only horse I have in this race is not wanting to have set filters to weed out as many gachas as possible. The search feature is screw ball enough as it is without having to filter out things that are no copy/no mod. Filtering out no copy doesn't exclude all gachas, just most. I don't want to see any unless I am specifically looking for gacha(s). Which, at this point, I have no desire to purchase and likely never will.

From my understanding the Epiphany event works this way. You can unpack the box OR get points and the box disappears. This is only useful if you want an item that can be purchased with points. It also takes a heck of a lot of points to get anything. The points carry over from past events, though.

Instead of a point system, give credit or some other means of accounting. Point systems are... well... pointless if it takes a long time to build enough points up, even if they do roll over. That's like Office Depot's system. Their points do expire now and you have 30 days to use them. The problem is it takes two weeks for them to put the points you earned on your "account" so you only have two weeks to use them. Which means most people don't use their points at all, unless they are just throwing money away buying things they don't need just to use the points. Not very intelligent.

For me the only reason I would ever get back into buying gacha from the machines, is if I could return each unwanted item directly on the spot and receive some value for it. Maybe points, and at certain points you can pick items from the same machine?

Current system I ignore Gacha's entirely or occasionally buy something of MP directly if I really want an item. I'm a client that wants to buy a certain item, not a dealer/reseller of your unwanted junk. So giving them points value to eventually get the item I want "could" motivate me to use the system.

There is already a system in place for sellers that keeps account of how much you purchase and grants an increasing discount. Something similar could be easily coded or the current gacha system(s) could be modified.

This coupled with giving gachas their own section or even their own market place would kill a few hundred birds with two stones.

Anyone who reads the post you quoted yourself can see that's not true. Maybe you want more details? That's fair enough, but that's not what you replied with.

To suggest I'm being presumptuous when you have no idea who I am or what I do is extremely hypocritical, and to suggest one needs to produce a competing product,  by themselves, out of pocket, and in their spare time, just to qualify as someone you'd allow to post suggestions on a user forum is insane.

    Not insane, presumptuous.

Yes. Just like Disney. My point is that anytime someone complains about something - it's fine as long as you can include a solution to go along with the complaint. No solution makes it nothing more than... you get the idea.

One example they were saying is "Give us easier to use, but keep the freedoms..." - Okay, how? Examples? It's easy to say "make the user interface easier!" and not provide a single description of what that is. It's easy to demand " The new user experience, tutorials, content creation tools, social features all need layers of polish that LL has previously scoffed at." - which is stunningly presumptuous to proclaim LL "scoffed" at it and yet, again, not one single example of how to accomplish such.

Does this help you confusion emoticon you put on that reply? LOL

As for why *I* haven't done it, yet?

I got your point. I think you missed mine. Oh well.

What confusion emoticon? I stuck my tongue out at you. Here, let me do it again. :P

Because I don't have a giant chip on my shoulder, nor ignorant enough to presume I can, which gives me great pause before accusing Linden Lab or anyone else that they can't. :)

Neither does Penny, nor is Penny ignorant, nor is she presuming. There are things LL should have done more than a decade ago (many that are still needed) that are still gathering dust because LL doesn't think it's needed. There comes a time when LL depends far too much on resident content creators. That time has come and gone. That needs to change if LL wants SL to be viable and financially feasible for another 15 years.

No, I mean they are lost because I do not know a name to search for them.  I forgot the creator's name or the object was named a bizarre name.  And, I'm talking about my inventory not MP nor the favorites nor wishlist.

I'd have to go through a lot of pages in the My Account area to find them.

And, I'm using lost not in the literal sense.  I know they are there...but what is the name?  I dunno.  So, I write on notecards everything NOW -- creator name, name of object, name of hud because often the hud doesn't have the creator's name nor the object name.   For instance, the hud was named 20 colors hud.  So, if I type in HUD in my inventory search box...there's bazillion of huds there, even all the demo ones.

I catalog now along with changing names if it's a bizzare named item.  Such as 1.  That's the object name, 1? lol  It has happened.

They are not lost. They're still in your inventory.

I suggested using the MP favorites as a means of keeping up with the stores you like shopping at without have to write it all down on paper or notecards.

In 14 years, I've never purchased any objects with a name that was a number or numbers.

Organizing your inventory will help you to find those things you believe are "lost". If you are doing things like keeping all HUDs in one folder... you're not helping yourself. HUDs need to stay in the folders with the items they are used with. What do you do when an item is no mod and you can't change the name? You organize things in a way that helps you find things and remember where they are. There are some system folders, like Objects, that you really don't want to leave a bunch of stuff in since when you take an item back into inventory that you have modified (or created) it goes into that folder. Items you purchase inworld go in that folder, too. Messy folder! Clean it out! Create your own folders and organize things in a way that works for you. And so on and so forth.

You already know, in general, what the item is, go look for it in the folder that has like items. For instance, clothing. Start with a main folder, #Clothes, then in that folder add folders for dresses, skirts, long dresses, formalwear, pants, jeans, tops, outerwear, hair (yes hair!), footwear, etc. Now you have a means of finding that bizarrely named item since you know it was a pair of jeans but you can't remember the bizarre name or the creator. Just seeing the name of the item on the folder should trigger memory and if it doesn't then those images that are often included are a great way to find that pair of jeans just by looking at the images. You can create your own images and store them on your harddrive (using the same system you use for inventory) if you don't want to pay to upload them. This applies to pretty much everything in SL.

There are hundreds of ways to organize your inventory so that you can find things even if you don't remember the name. Just find what works for you and stay on top of it for the most part.

Stunningly presumptuous. I'll just say what many are already thinking: if it's all so easy to do, why have you not done it, yet?

Perhaps for the same reasons LL hasn't done it either? Or maybe why so many keep trying using Unity?

Were you aware that much of what comprises SL were things LL acquired for free? Like the avatars were originally an outdated version of Ruth of Poser 3D fame (Daz 3D's predecessor)?

So... how come you haven't done it... yet? :P

Aw, you don't like it when people are in long-term relationships and like to avoid unnecessary drama through boyfriend theft?

Creating drama to avoid drama doesn't work. The only point in even mentioning it, is to create drama.

Two years isn't that long for a serious relationship. It's when you look back at the 20 (or even 10) year relationship that you realize just what long term relationship really means.

4-23-2020    After witnessing the success of placing Brexit in the hands of the British public via referendum, the physics community submits M-theory to a live vote on America's Got Talent, asking the audience whether the membranes underpinning the physical world should be 10 or 11 dimensional. In an unexpected twist, five dimensions wins the vote as a write-in. Exit polling shows that younger voters predominantly picked from the two listed candidates, with no clear preference for either. Those over 60, who called in a majority of the votes, expressed overwhelming support for "5", explaining that, addition to the three physical dimensions and time, the fifth dimension is one of imagination and is called "The Twilight Zone".

There are five people who disagree that the Fifth Dimension is one of imagination and called The Twilight Zone.

On another note, I probably LOST 15,000 copy and mod items SIMPLY because it's an odd name or was named 1, 2, 3 etc.

I now know to rename items and/or write down on a notecard what the item name is.

I catalog all my items now.

I've had to or they'd be lost.

Others, I may find eventually but oft times I cannot even remember the merchants name.

So, I catalog it all now.

They aren't lost unless you sent them to trash and then purged trash.

There are three handy little features on the MP:  My Favorites, My Wishlist and My Favorite Stores.

How you organize your inventory makes a difference as well as using the search feature, if you use a TPV that has inventory search, such as Firestorm.

I need people I can relate to.. 30s - 60s if you are out there, say hi! (Girls or gays only)

I don't love to shop.. sorry if thats a disappointment. I do love to play board games and I have pretty much all of them. Happy to go to a club or venue, discussion, etc as long as theres not like 5 people in the room with tip request spam. (tacky!)

I have a foul mouth and am an east coast girl with a big heart. In a long term relationship almost 2 years and already gone RL with him so you don't need to protect your boyfriends from me! I am totally uninterested in that sort of drama.

Anyway, say hello my mature ladies!

You had me up until the bolded part.

I'm still kind of new to scripting but could you have some kind of button to click that starts the media. Then, could you have some kind of system that an avatar would click a button to start the media but would "hold" that command till others had clicked a start button. Then when everyone has clicked once, you hit a submit button and it kind of "releases" those requests at the same time. It wouldn't keep it  perfectly synch'd but if you are all watching a video it could get it starting at the same time. Unless there is a way that one person can hit a start button and it tells everyone else's to start at the same time. There might be a way to use CHANGED_MEDIA to detect when the media loads on one for an avatar and then automatically start on the other. Or you could use some kind of trigger to "start" the media simultaneously on two different prim faces.  I guess on the really complex side, if you had access to a web server, you might be able to do some kind of cross between php and LSL.  In either case, streams would have to be triggered by some kind of event and if you could get that event to trigger on both two different prim faces, that would get you halfway there.

I don't think the OP really cares after 7 years.

In filing an AR many years ago I included the chat log. The Linden that got back to me told me that technically I had violated the ToS by giving THEM, the Linden employee who had read a server log to verify things; the chat log...

    O.o

At that time you had violated TOS as it wasn't stipulated in the TOS that it's ok to send chat logs to a Linden. It's in there now because of all the constant arguing and bickering over if you could or couldn't. You always could, just the TOS didn't specifically say you could. Now it does.

For the record,  I have 3 houseboats in my invent should I want to change my current house

I should make that my next project. But first I gotta find an up to date rezzer script so I can pack the furniture instead of trying to link it all. Linking works up to a point.  But at least this way I will know exactly how much LI will be used before rezzing since I can add that info to the object name. Hopefully whatever script I end up using (old or new) will allow me to link the rezzer box to the house/skybox so I can just unlink, rez, place and then delete the rezzer box.

A lot of work just to have quick set ups but I feel it is worth the hassle.

  16. This was from a couple of days ago. First time someone ever tried griefing me in a sandbox in 14 years. And a wannabe Joker at that. Never met this person before, never spoke to him before he just showed up on the platform I was using. I was busy and didn't give a flying flip what his RL last name was. I just wanted to be left alone so I could get something accomplished. He must have thought he was being clever with his pickup line. Didn't work on me.

    [11:24] Joker Wannabe: found you
[11:25] Selene Gregoire: Please leave. I'm busy.
    [11:25] Joker Wannabe: cute
[11:25] Joker Wannabe: your last name
[11:25] Joker Wannabe: is basically  my name in RL
    [11:25] Joker Wannabe: hmm
    [11:25] Selene Gregoire: So?
[11:25] Joker Wannabe: ill spare you
[11:25] Joker Wannabe: just cause of that
[11:25] Selene Gregoire: Oh fork* off already.
    [11:25] Joker Wannabe: oh...
    [11:25] Joker Wannabe: lol

Apparently he thought a follower would cause me to crash. I just picked my stuff up after blocking him, TPed home to get rid of the pathetic follower then went back to a different platform and started work again.

    Lame griefer is lame.

*That isn't the word I actually used.
