Ants get into my outdoor electrical boxes, packing them with so much debris the ground fault interrupters eventually trip. Last year I put a spoonful of ant poison in each box. I hope that's the end of it. Li'l buggers.

We have an ant problem here, too. Can't seem to get rid of the little buggers but eventually I'll get it taken care of. I just wish the pest control company I used to ese had offices here. At least our ants aren't ones that are venomous, like fire ants. The bites hurt but they don't get infected.

    • A data center at Stanford University in the mid-1990s switched to back-up generators after a squirrel blew out the main transformer. The rodent's charred remains were found hours later, exposed by its pungent odor.

    • Texas Tech University researchers have cited red, imported fire ants as being network troublemakers as far back as 1939, when Southwestern Bell Telephone reported problems in Galveston, Texas.

    • AT&T and other telecom companies and equipment makers seeking ways to protect their networks and products from pocket gophers' choppers drew fire from animal rights activists in the mid-1990s for paying U.S. government researchers over two-plus decades to trap the animals, cage them and watch them gnaw on cables strung within the cages. Such cable-durability tests have since been halted.

    • Owners of underwater cables have had to make their links shark resistant after suffering outages caused by fish bites.

Well if you have not been able to tweak your avie a bit in 12 years, your not really trying ;)

Does not help that most of the creeper messages also comes from avies like described above. At some point I just started to ignore them completely unless they have something interesting to say as conversation starter.

Well you might as well write me off completely then because I'm not about to spend money I don't have to spare buying mesh bodies and heads for all of my accounts just to suit someone who appears to be somewhat shallow minded. Perhaps you just aren't thinking things through quite all the way.

Generally HOA is something that will rub real life home owners the wrong way

Boy does it ever! . HOAs are about the only thing I may actually hate, rather than just have a strong dislike for. It's MY home and if I want to paint it pink and purple polka dots with green and yellow stripes that is exactly what I will do. Don't like it? Sucks to be you.

And that's a general "you", not anyone in particular.

I'll live in a freakin cave before I ever live in an HOA neighborhood.

Maybe I am a jerk then, but yes, it influences me at least in the first impression.

If I get an IM from someone random, and its not particularly interesting or relevant to anything, and that person is a 12 year old avie, without AO, with the starter system cloths you got 12 years ago, and same hair and skin, I tend to ignore them.

If the exact same message comes from a developed avie I would much more likely respond. Does not have to be super pretty mesh, but showing someone caring for their avie and willing to invest time and effort into their SL.

While it may be rather rare there are those people who don't log in much. Perhaps because they have a very busy RL and don't have a lot of time to spend on making over their avatar.

I'm curious as to why it is so important to you when it's the personality behind the avatar that makes the person, not the avatar itself.

It might show that there's a limit between 10,000 and 100,000. Then it's merely a matter of trying a 50,000 character post, etc. to determine the exact value. It wouldn't take a lot of posts to find at least an approximate value, but a mod might step in before the process is complete. Perhaps split the trial over several threads?

    What on earth for?

Ahh the fuddys have arrived. Sorry guys fun police are here. Fun is over, everyone go home.

It may have been fun for you but where was the fun for us? Why not just ask a Linden instead of making a thread that is needless. As I said, you could have done this in the derail thread where it belonged. Even better you could have asked a Linden. As far as I am aware, there are no rules against private messaging one.

I think that's exactly what they did in the post? Their redundant system failed, when they interrupted their network.

Doubt they can explain an outage so complicated and unique that their top engineers, a top consultant and even the core router manufacturer were clueless, in understandable laymans terms. I don't think we have to worry about advanced poop like that going on at our routers at home, or even at work. If your work has routers of their capacity, you will have a team of IT engineers maintaining them ;)

Sometimes cables get rat/mouse chewed while in warehouse/storage. I've had field mice as pets before. The last one I had I found in a box we had brought home from storage. So, it isn't always a technical explanation. Which is what I suspected.

And yes a bunch of my things were mouse chewed. Including two of my favorite Christmas sweaters.

I promise you it wasn't me that chewed those wires. I dunno how they got chewed. They were pre-chewed when I got there. 😗

I'll bet everyone will be checking cables as soon as they pull them out of the box from now on. LOL

    Hi, y'all. :)

Here's a blog post about what happened:

Sorry for the trouble this week! 💜

    @April Linden

What I want to know is if the problem with the second router was a manufacturer's defect of some kind. What, precisely, was the issue? Defective cable? Router? What?

I understand about DDoS attacks and don't have a problem with LL doing every thing they can to combat such things. I just want to know what caused the router/cable to fail. In layman's terms, please. Some may not think this is vital information for residents. I do. It helps us to understand better why some things are done the way they are and could possible helps us in the future if we have troubles with our routers at home or even at work.

Honestly? I really, really dislike being a mushroom and kept in the dark. I prefer to avoid as many "bombshells" in my life as I can. ^_^

  11. Well? Is there? What is it if there is?

Oh and you could have used the derail thread for this rather than creating a new thread. Character limit is per post, not per thread. lol

It's more about the community than a few bonus prims.

If raw prims per US$ was that important then Horizons wouldn't be the ghost town it is. It's is a better deal, you get double and you can call anything you like home.

If anything, the Linden Homes come with a tighter prim budget than most of us are used to for decorating, it's providing a challenge and making it fun. What can you do with a limited selection of homes and a tight 300 Li.

I'm so used to making do with under 100 prims... what I could do with 300. Oh man. I think I'm gonna go sit in a corner and sulk.

Given how passionate I am about helping guys to look good in SL, it was a no-brainer for me to try and help a guy who was asking for male avatar customisation help in the forums a few days ago.

I was about halfway through typing my reply when I realised that he'd already asked a similar question a few months earlier and received a detailed answer from me, to which he had never responded. So - instead of trawling back through hundreds of posts in my own archive to find that thread - I decided it would be far quicker to check his archive for it, since he didn't have many posts at all.

And that was when I found the post elsewhere on the forum where he expressed to a female avatar (on the same day that I'd replied to his original post) his evident dismay that he was having to "talk to gay guys" about his looks (although what kind of conversation he'd thought he was having, when he hadn't even bothered to reply to me before... well, that's anyone's guess) and he asked that female avatar to IM him with some help.

I then returned to the post that I'd been planning to help him with, deleted what I'd already typed, and closed the thread.

    *sigh*

Look at it this way, Skell. It's his loss. He is the one that will be running around SL improperly attired since he chose to ask a woman instead of the one man in SL that could dress him to the nines without spending a small fortune.

More often than not, gay men prove to be much better at this sort of thing than hetero women. Although I do consider myself to be an "exception to the rule". I have my mother to thank for her simple elegance. ;)

Yeah I guess I didn't need to put that.  Normally I just put things like this because I find more in common with people in that range! :)

Perhaps, if you gave older people more of a chance, you'd find you have a lot more in common with them than you think.

[10:10] Rhonda Huntress: Well, thank you very much
[10:10] XXXXX: Is my pleasure maam

I didn't know what to do.  I panicked!  This is not normal behavior.

I'd just about be willing to bet that boy is from the South. Silver tongued devil. Gotta watch out for them.

    I'm not really joking either.

That spoiled brat sound: Can confirm.

The "premium member elitism" though, you keep saying this as if it's a thing. A "premium member" is acutely aware that the status is bestowed exclusively on those too cheap to own (or rent) Estate land and who must instead suffer all the indignities of Mainland at the low, low price of practically nothing (net of stipend).

Some of us are, nonetheless, insufferable snobs despite being premium members. For all our many faults, we rarely brag on our entitlement to live in SL's low rent district.

Yes, we know you are sorry. Now apologize.

    As my mother would say.

I read the whole thing, you are clearly mad that you didn't get a home. When it was stated here in the forums, that houseboats were limited to 709 of them. You were given an ample amount of time, to be warned and to be ready to grab a home. As I said before, it is first come first serve. That isn't gonna change, nor are people making posts, in the forums that it's unfair that they didn't get a home, isn't gonna change it either. As I also said before, you just have to be patient. Stuff like this takes time. But this is like the umpteenth post on the forums, that basically goes. I'm just gonna get cancel premium since I didn't  get my Linden Home right away. To me that is whining, and thinking that they should have gotten one of those homes, before anyone else. Look do what the rest of us have to, keep on refreshing the page. A house of your dreams will pop up. Anyways, I have spoke too long. Happy Hunting. 😀

May I suggest you go back and look closer at who made what post? Because I think you are confusing Vanilla with another poster.

    thanks  :)

and yes lol. I am still on the same waka/canoe. So nothing much changed about that

and tbh I have come on SL in between my paid fors, at different times to help friends make/achieve the SL goals they have set for themselves. Mostly to do with setting up their regions and communities. After which I dropped back out again because RL time demands

i am though enjoying SL again on my own account. Has been good to own my own place and stuffs again :)

I'm just glad you are back. We indis* need to stick together. ^_^
