Okay, may I ask what Elitism is? I kinda understand Ageism, but not fully. Actually can you please explain both.

    Quote

Elitism is the belief or attitude that individuals who form an elite—a select group of people with a certain ancestry, intrinsic quality, high intellect, wealth, special skills, or experience—are more likely to be constructive to society as a whole, and therefore deserve influence or authority greater than that of others.[1]

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elitism

    Quote

Ageism (also spelled "agism") is stereotyping and discrimination against individuals or groups on the basis of their age. This may be casual or systematic.[1][2] The term was coined in 1969 by Robert Neil Butler to describe discrimination against seniors, and patterned on sexism and racism.[3] Butler defined "ageism" as a combination of three connected elements. Among them were prejudicial attitudes towards older people, old age, and the aging process; discriminatory practices against older people; and institutional practices and policies that perpetuate stereotypes about elderly people.[4]

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ageism

ETA: Ageism does work both ways but it mostly occurs in younger people in their attitudes towards older people.

Thats harsh, for all you know he is a witty raconteur, a good conversationalist and empathic individual who just happens to have only met crappy people. Now I grant you the odds are long but then even a million to one chance comes off occasionally

His loss, not mine. I have zero tolerance for ageism and elitism. Don't like it? Too effing bad. I'm not killing off my inner child just to make some young dimwit happy.

biggest issue i have often is with people.after being on sl for a good while overall.

    - hate it when.............

    • people you add who are never on
    • people you add who are always busy or always afk.
    • people you add who end up just removing you as soon as you log or the next day without telling you.
    • people who always hide their online status in your freinds list so you never know when the f-ck they are on.
    • when you tp someone to visit you and they immidently go afk for a very long time.
    • when you are in a conversation with someone that keeps going back and forth between afk and chatting
    • people who take FOR-EV-VER to respond to every single conversation.
    • people who mute you over ONE misunderstanding and/or LOG OFF so you cant try to work it out.
    • overly opinionated people (often "submissives") who stick their unwanted opinions in every chance they chance to try to undermind you.
    • people who say "we are better off friends" when you JUST met them and havent even had a real chance to get to know each other.
    • people who say one thing is fine (often sexually) and give into that thing and then the next day act like they shoudnt and want to run (even though you never forced them to)
    • newbies who apparently are able to download second life, create an account, login even sometimes create a basic look for themselves but cannot understand the simplest tasks even when you try to walk it through step by step.
    • older women who run the second a guy says hes a bit younger without even giving him a CHANCE just because of his age.
    • older women who are in their 40s 50s and older who type and act like they are 20
    • that ONE (or two) furry that always hangs out in a place filled by humans.
    • women at franks place who are always afk.
    • people who tell you "read my profile first" when you try to get to know them only to find out there is NOTHING in their profile that actually really tells you about who they are and its often filled with TONS OF quotes by other people and when you point that out they get super mad at you.

And here is an almost 60 year old woman with a lifetime partner who is 9 months younger in RL, blocking you inworld.

People like you, that think they can control every thing others do, have no place in my life. Go suck the fun out of someone else's existence. You can't have mine.

  4. Ollie,

First you need to be sure you have properly "aimed" FS at the OS grid of your choice.

    https://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/preferences_opensim_tab?s[]=opensim

Second, if you want to be able to do preliminary testing (the final test being in SL itself) you can install your own little grid on your pc.

    http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Main_Page

It may look complicated but they really aren't hard to set up.

Please note: The Firestorm support team does not provide support for the OS version of FS. You will need to utilize the OS community for help.

Not knowing whether i should answer to this or not. Curiosity tells me i should ask you who's this referring to?

It doesn't refer to anyone and wasn't intended to be answered. Its sole intent was to be amusing before it got too deep in here and the thread gets locked.

to encourage total isolation from your neighbors

Except for one thing. That isn't what SL is about. Those who want to be isolated, already are. Those who don't, aren't. That isn't going to change as long as people have a choice between mainland and private estates. If you start trying to force this kind of stuff on people... you think SL is a wasteland now. You haven't seen anything yet. Of course, if your end goal is SL and Sansar shutting down, well... keep on trucking, I guess.

They're for people who want to put up walls or windowless buildings. If you want a private space, areas like that are built for it. Like a skybox, but at ground level and with more prims.

That may be what they are for but that doesn't mean that is what people want. Obviously, what you want and what others want are completely different things. If people don't want to live on parcels like those, they aren't going to.  And there's nothing you or LL can do to force people into doing so. People always have the option to not own land or rent somewhere else that is more to their liking. Be that mainland or private estates.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.

    Isolation Islands are real.

Your own little square. All to yourself. You can put up security orbs, walls, and ban lines. No one will bother you ever again.

If that's what you want, get off mainland and move to one of these. Several big landlords are in this business. This one is in Monet.

I think it's pretty obvious why most of those parcels are empty. I wouldn't want to live there either. There is nothing appealing about those parcels.

    Policies I'd like for mainland:

    • No skyboxes. We need those CPU cycles down at ground level. Land ownership stops at 128m above ground level.
    • No high walls around parcels. If you want total isolation, go elsewhere.
    • Bellesaria-type ban line and security orb rules.

LL should offer a free moving service - swap your parcel for one on an Isolation Island, where you can have skyboxes, walls, and ban lines. LL does a bulk move for your objects. You get to sell the old parcel, and LL deducts L$1/m^2 to pay for the new parcel. You get your isolation, you get some money, and someone else gets a parcel under the new policies.

Just making that offer would start the cleanup of mainland.

There's one problem with this. Most people aren't looking for isolation. They're looking for privacy. Major difference between the two things.

I want to clarify what I said the other day. I am not special or deserve more than any other Premium member, I love what the Lindens are doing to improve our homes. the part that upset me is the small number released, there would have been less confusion and people upset if they had waited for a larger number of homes to be ready, I really didn't mean to add to the confusion or hatred that seems to be hovering here, I will wait till I can get a new home just like everyone else..

They have good reason for not releasing in large batches. Server load and well... you've seen it here for yourself. Releases will be more frequent with smaller batches but spread out enough to reduce the load.

Patience and perseverance will get you your Linden Home.

I don't know whether to take this seriously or as a sarcastic remark. It's hard to understand ones intent via text. If you do actually agree with me, I appreciate it. :)

I do agree with you. It was not meant to be sarcastic at all. It was meant to be amusing.

  12. People are making the huge mistake of trying to lump more than 3 generations into one simply because some else decided to give generations a name. I do NOT belong to the same generation as my parents and my grandparents.

And before anything happens, I was typing this post when Jagix posted so I didn't see it until AFTER I posted.

I honestly don't know how people get away with this. I know this is a virtual world and stuff. But the end user, being me. The person behind the screen should have a say,  in what lists they are put in, and what subscriptions I'm a part of. Currently, I only subscribe to two companies in SL. However, this behaviour needs to stop. I don't want to know about your school, that offers classes. May I add, they were a Spanish SL school. I primarily speak English. I want to be able to choose what events and companies I subscribe to. Not buy an item, and automatically be put on a list, whether it be on MP or in world. I had it before, where I bought something on MP, and  I got the item all fine and dandy. A week or two later, I am getting spam from this store. Essentially there should be rules implemented, where these sneaky scripts. Shouldn't be allowed, subscribing to something, should be consent based. End of story. No one should be able to go to a sim, put your name on a list of random people they choose and put you in their subscribomatic thingy. There are a lot of dirty underhanded ways they do this, but LL should really put a stop to this.

Everyone! Quick! Get under your desks, place your heads between your knees, cover your heads with your arms and kiss your butts goodbye! I agree with Hale! :o

  14. Periodically I will go through my Landmarks folder and delete the ones that are no longer valid. This means tping to each one to check it, which only takes a few seconds, because I'm not one to rely on Search to check. Sim might still be there but that parcel may not be what it once was and the only way to be absolutely sure is eyes on.

I'm certain I am not the only one that does this so this explanation does account for some of it.
