Austin was um..not conservative like where I lived. Doesn’t mean I’m not “experienced” more than anyone I’ve ever met.

I never said you were and Austin isn't the only place in Texas. Cut and Shoot is extremely conservative. But you've probably never heard of that podunk town even though they had one of the largest country and western dance halls in the state .

All I'm saying is people have been wearing frayed bell bottoms since the 60s no matter what part of the country you live in and not always by choice (eta: the frayed part). The fact that you never noticed isn't relevant.

    Bell-bottoms in MO, 1970’s: yes

Bell-bottoms in TX, 1975-1988: not so much

    Bell-bottoms in TN, 1990’s: yep

I think it was the culture in each place/time, not my lack of attention. TX was pretty conservative.

Not really. We were wearing bell bottoms in Austin in the 80s. I wore bell bottoms every time I've been in TN from the 60s to when I got married in 1992. Wore bell bottoms in MO way back in the late 70s early 80s when I was bumming rides around the country.

Yeah, but it's not paranoia. More annoyance than anything, you try to leave a very nice, and detailed message about what you as the customer, is having a problem with. They immediately delete it, so it's like. What's the freakin point? Your voice is just gonna be silenced anyways.

It isn't paranoia when you know they are out to get you. shiftyeyes.gif.38df7abf4cf4c818d769b7b6559447d1.gif

Last time I saw folks wear them (in the 90’s), the style was for them to drag the ground and get all torn up at the ends from that.

You're about 30 years behind then. It's been that way since the 60s. Still is. Especially since none of the manufacturers can agree on standard sizing. Even the "regular" lengths are too long for me. So it's not that it started out being done intentionally. The manufacturers have forced it on us. And it isn't just jeans either. And of course, now it's more expensive to make your own clothes than it is to buy ready made and guess who made certain of that happening? Yep. The clothing manufacturers/designers. Much like cars. With each passing year there are fewer and fewer things on a car that the individual can fix because the manufacturers want you to buy a new car every two years as if we can all afford to spend more than a year's wages on a car every two years. This is being done with everything. That's why it's said that starting with Gen X (I think it was) kids are growing up in a throw away society. It's gone on long enough now that even people are considered disposable, just like a Bic lighter, the culprit that started the whole thing. Bic disposable pens and lighters.

No, this is just about searching for things to buy on the Market Place: it wouldn't impact on anything in-world at all.

Lindal is presumably joking, because this would be the stupidest move ever. The theory is that you are encouraged to buy more Lindens because everything you see on search would cost more than you currently have in your account. The practice would be that, the more money you actually had to spend, the fewer things you'd be able to find to spend it on.

Which just wiped out all content creators so there isn't going to be any thing to buy anyway since no one can afford the exorbitant upload fee hike that will inevitably follow.

I've been struggling with that for my animesh characters. I'm currently looking for a very low-LI rigged mesh jacket/windbreaker, something a 20something woman might wear walking around. Full perm, because animesh mesh clothing has to be linked, not "worn". I can find tons of sexy gear, but wardrobe basics are harder.

If you have a mesh jacket which, rezzed by itself, is under 1200 triangles, please let me know.

    Try Ducknipple.

it's more specific than a radar. it only identifies avatars involved in the game. more like an area search for avatars wearing a certain attachment.

Area search is also built in, in FS and other TPVs.

    How's that for knowledge?

If it's a radar, you can pick those up anywhere..you can probably get one on the MP for next to free..

A radar will show all avatars in the sim, their names and how far away they are from you..

Or you could use the built in radar in FS and other TPVs. ;)

the most dangerous script is one that asks us for debit permissions to our L$ account balance. We have to be super careful when we encounter these scripts and make sure that we fully trust the person who gave it to us

This is correct except for the part about fully trusting someone. Even if you do trust the person who gave you the object that is asking for payment permissions DO NOT GRANT THE PERMISSIONS. The ONLY time you do so is when it is a vendor that YOU rez out of YOUR inventory that YOU purchased from a reputable vendor creator.

i was hoping to learn how to figure out what it is by looking at what scripts it contains. but i guess no one posting so far is that knowledgeable

You have to rez the object on the ground to be able to see what scripts it has in it IF it is mod. If the scripts are no mod then you won't be able to see what it is they do IF you are familiar with LSL.

Now what were you saying about no one being knowledgeable?

I just want to submit to you all as evidence of the state second life is in lately by all of the wonderful responses i just got from my list.  I would think that at least one or two people would have responded with "omg i know exactly what you mean!"

but instead not only was my list atttacked, i was personally attacked as well (even going so far as one lovely person saying they would block me in world) for sharing my own experiences.

    Lovely.

first of all to the 60 year old who blocked me in world (i dont need to quote the resonances you can read them there)  You obviously didnt read what i was saying.

i am not talking about someone who is 9 months younger. i am speaking of older women who flat out refuse to even talk to a guy whos SEVERAL YEARS younger then them.

If your going to get bent out of shape over something so much as to block someone in world that you and i most likely never would have crossed paths anyways.  You might do well to actually read what the person is saying first.

MOST of my pet peeves are about commen sense about being a human being. about showing other people you give two cents about more then just yourself...about proper COMMUNICATION which should be a cornerstone of every connection.....friends or mor

but i oh so thank you for your lovely responces.  and i think for the future ill keep my opinions free from these forums lest a group of you make a notecard of every thing i say you dont agree with and pass it around to all your friends (been there too).

I add every single comment to my list of my pet peeves that was made to me.....to my list of pet peeves. because ironically your responses just proves my point.  Not one of you. not a single one responded positively to my list and said "omg i know exactly what you mean." and that my friends is the problem.

and yes maybe some of my actions have caused issues. i am not a saint by any means. but you know bottom line i TRY to give the person i want to connect with the same level of consideration i hope they give me. and time and time again quite honestly you people on sl are just down right RUDE!

but thats ok... ill remember the responces and remember what they say about karma people ;-).

Yes, but the point that Selene or others would probably make is that we ought to be aware that we are making those assumptions, rather than just making them blindly without being self-critical.  We have the ability to study our own behavior and understand where our interpretations of other people are coming from and, one might argue, we have a moral obligation to use that ability.  Otherwise, we are prisoners of our assumptions, perhaps to our own disadvantage and in our unfair treatment of others.  To borrow an aphorism, "Ignorance can be cured; stupidity is forever."  Self-awareness is our hope for curing ignorance and avoiding stupidity.

    Precisely. Thank you.
