Like I said.
  2. Some tips to help with making your home as private as possible. 1) build on the ground or close to it. This is becasue banlines only go up 150m. If your building stays below this level and you uncheck "Allow Public Access" in About Land Access tab, then only you and people on the Allowed Residents list will be able to enter the building. 2) in the Options tab, make sure "Avatars on other parcels can see and chat with avatars on this parcel" is unchecked. This way outsiders can't spy on you. they can see the building but not any avatars inside. 3) On the Sound tab check "Restrict gestures and object sounds to this parcel" so any gestures and sounds don't go beyond your parcel. Also, if you have "Enable Voice" checked, also check "Restrict Voice to this parcel". That way if you are chatting on voice, it is only heard by other avatars on your parcel. These steps are more effective than a security orb since nobody who isn't permitted access to your home can get there. A security orb will still give momentary access (typically a few seconds).
  3. I can't seam to find a "temporary upload" or "local upload" button in the V3 viewer. Where do Iook? this would be handy.
  4. If there is a business on the parcel (mall, dance club, rentals), it might be an advertising technique.
  5. sorry but that was just too obnoxious to leave up.
  6. Well, it does seam more stable. So, I can't call this a complaint about the viewer.
  7. thanks Cerise, but I've actually been keeping up with the upates. So, I don't imagine it was that. I just prefer to download it after I log-in and install it when I'm done in SL. At most I was maybe 1 version behind, I think.
  8. I start up the Second Life viewer and get a dialog box telling me "There is a required update for your Second Life installation." I understand there are lots of good reasons for such things (most notably exploits to hack my computer, my SL account, or the SL servers). But why don't they explain a tiny bit more about what makes this one mandatory? I skimmed the release notes but didn't see anything obviously justifying a "mandatory" update.
  9. I just did the same update and have the same problem. Lots of graphcis glitches. How the heck do you get 40 to 60 FPS? Even with almost nothing in draw range except the prim I'm standing on (way up in the sky) I can't get more than 18 FPS at the recommended settings and on minimal settings I still don't get 30 FPS.
  10. Not so much an answer as a follow up question. Why would you expect your newly listed items to show up in a category called "top searched"?
  11. It is worth contacting the seller and making an offer. I did so to get land in SL and we came to a reasonable price.

  15. Seeing as how there is a massive snow storm hitting the north eastern part of North America (well South East if you are in Canada), I though it might be nice for those of you in warmer climates to see what's going on. It started snowing for me around 3pm yesterday. It's not nearly as bad as I expected it to be but here's what I've got so far. If you are having a snow day too, what does it look like outside your window?
  16. If you've already trolled the rentals and haven't found what you want I would suggest you consider getting your own land and either build or buy an office type building and furniture. If you don't want to advertise your office (you won't be having events, show up in search, or placing ads with an LM using the build in linden lab supplied ad service) you could consider using a Linden Home as a home base. All that requires is a premium account and choosing your Linden Home. The modern style homes could pass for a small office building. Personally I would go with either renting or buying a plot of land and put up my own building.

  18. In the past, I have offloaded and/or shared data by using several different methods (depending on my needs): an external HTTP server that is called by the LSL scripts to load/save information a "helper script" that really just stores name, value pairs in a list data type and communicates via link message a prim "server" that stores data the same as #2 but communicates via HTTP and email. HTTP is used for get/store while email is used to find the HTTP server url (which changes whenever the lindens feel the need to restart the region that my "mainframe" sits on. I've found that a mono script can store approximately 200 items in a list without running into memory issues. Of course, I use small amounts of storage. With a maximum of 64K, taking into account pass-by-value and overhead for the logic, I figure I've got around 20K of storage per LSL script in my "mainframe".
  19. What you are asking for is not too difficult to script but for the best effect you need someone who is decent with building and texturing too. I've build what you are asking about for another person. In the case of my build, the broken parts are temp-on-rez, so they clean up themselves about a minute after appearing.
  20. On several occations I have expanded my land holdings buy purchasing parts of abandoned land that was adjacent to my existing holdings. I simply submitted a ticket requestion that the adjacent land be sub-divided so that I could buy the size and shape I wanted. The Lindens generally turned this around in a couple of days. No overdue tier payments. No abandoning land. it has been a while since I've done this but the last time was after the auto-sale feature was added. Despite what reading these forums suggests, I was very happy with the support I received from Linden Lab and land management.
  21. HI Lax, What you want is possible and relatively easy. I say relatively becasue actually doing things in Second Life can be a bit complicated, so it's easy relative to what you can do. In simple terms you need to: Get some land, Add a building to it, create (or buy) some picture frames, upload your pictures ( the jpg files), apply the pictures to the picture frames. To Get Land There are 2 simple choices. Option 1 is to get a Premium Account from Linden Lab. Option 2 is to rent some land (or a house) from another resident. For option 1, you can get a "Linden Home" which would be the house you wanted (a bit bigger than 10x10) and should meet your needs short term. The premium account costs you $10 a month if you pay monthly or $6 a month if you pay for a year up front (there's also a 3 month opion). For option 2 it really depends on who you rent from but you will most likely be paying in Linden Dollars (L$) which you can buy for real money at approximately 250 linden dollars for 1 US dollar. Adding a Building As noted in the first step, there are options that include a house/building. Those are probably your best choice right now. Later on you can buy a pre-built house and if you want to learn, eventually you can build your own building. Get a Picture frame Being new to SL you should be able to find some free picture frames on the marketplace (marketplace.secondlife.com). If you are adventureous, you can try to rez a cube and make your very own picture frames but that is another lesson. Upload your picture On the "me" menu of your viewer there is an "uploads" sub menu. Use it to send pictures from your desktop computer into Second Life. It costs 10 Linden Dollars (like 3 cent real money) per picture to send the pictures into Second Life. They show up in your inventory. Put the picture in the picture frame Probably the easiest part of the process. it's drag and drop. Find the picture you uploaded in your second life inventory (there's an icon in the viewer that looks like a suitcase to show your inventory) and drag it to the center of the picture frame. In a couple of seconds you should see the picture in the picture frame. Best of luck
  22. I fit your category. I'm not thrilled about being called "older" but you are probably accurate. :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
  23. See if you can rent a homestead. It's not exactly your 2000 prim requirment, but it's the only way you are going to have less than 15,000 prims and no neighbours.
  24. You will probably have better luck finding an answer in the LSL section of the forums (instead of answers). Some other options (depending on how close to a beginner you are): 1) post in the "wanted" section for a scripter to write it for you (costs L$ probably, but maybe not) 2) search the various script libraries for a free "moving things" script. You might get a few people pointing you at free scripts if you try #1 first 3) start reading about pathfinding (this will look better) 4) start reading about llSetPos(), llSetRot(), and friends I'm sure there's more.
  25. I was joking. I realize it's pretty much impossible. If I could find a plot in Bay City that was within my price range I would jump on it. Lets just say my price range and what land there sells for are off by a couple orders of magnitude. I remember the (a?) zombie hunt there around halloween. It would have been more fun if the guns had worked. Pussycat Catnap wrote: ... To pull it off, you'd need to coordinate with -everyone- on the sim, and anyone nearby who might be effected by a wandering zombie - or somebody not knowing / lacking a sense of humor would file a complaint. ... That said... if you want to do a zombie theme, step on over to Bay City and folks here would have a blast with it. I think I've seen us pretend to one not long back.
