  1. I once underwent a DDOS attack on my own incoming internet, by someone in this very game. I really did not know what was happening until I paid my internet company to come out and try and figure out what was going on. Once it was established, someone was bombarding me with huge packets and disconnecting my service, they were able to watch it happen and gleaned the IP addresses it was coming from. I was forwarded to the FBI and a very wonderful female agent took over the investigation. What she advised me to do, was to warn the individual that it was going to go for investigation, and he would easily be found out through Linden Lab as to who he was and where he lived. I was lucky, this ass ran around bragging about it, so he really outed himself. I would let everyone know, if the person found to be doing these attacks are in the US, it is a FEDERAL OFFENSE. This individual stopped his attacks with a warning from me I would turn him over, he knew very well what that meant. It is nasty and I do completely understand what LL is going through right now just to get things back on line until the next attack. So please give them some grace, and stop complaining, they are doing the very best they can, in a world that is constantly getting a bit less nice every day.
  2. I just got into my sim with an alt, but cannot log in my main, go figure..she has a hell of a lot to do today...lol Update: got in by using the hint of going to a different sim, logged in at our linden home, TPed to our sim, THAT WORKED! Thanks guys !
  3. I want to thank all of you for your fantastic help ! Oie, i found yours to be very helpful, and we will be looking to correct several of the things you mentioned, and thanks so much for taking the time to visit the sim and look this problem over for us. It is an activity sim, so we do have lots of stuff out for them to do while there. We put 5 gaming tables out in the Western Town Saloon, so it could be, but i'm not sure, maybe some of those scripts. They have been updated to the latest versions. LOL who knew that crazy shark was such a mess, he is so gone. Thanks again, and contact me in game if you would like the rights to see the script activity in detail on the sim.
  4. I have a great sim, its a biking sim, where riders seem to enjoy the sights, and love to ride. I am always looking for ways to cut back on lag, so that their rides would be more enjoyable. We have a script counter that allows 150 scripts and 5 MB usage. But it seems anytime someone enters or leaves the sim, of course the wild lag jag hits. Anytime there is over 20-30 people on it, seems the lag is incredible. We do all we can to keep up to date scripting in all things out on the sim, and good textures that are easy to load. Is there anything else we can do? Would appreciate any and all ideas, thanks in advance.....
  5. A friend of ours turned off his computer to go out of town for thanksgiving, came back, and he cannot get into SL, or the Market Place, or the SL website. It times out, and or says "this page cannot be found" . He can get into all other web sites he wants to, just nothing involved with SL? He has reset his modem several times, restored one of his computers, but it still keeps happening. Any ideas, we can pass on to him ? thanks for your help :)
  6. This week, me and a couple others i know have been having problems with moving to the next page, or opening a page on an item to see its description (everytime it flips you to page not available, often it comes up on a "retry, but not always). Checking out, its a nightmare, took me three tries, and today it would not let me check out from either "buy now" or my cart. I keep getting a message the page is not available, or it flips me back to the front page of the MP. If there's a fix or a trick, if anyone could help, we would all really appreciate it, thanks :)
  7. I'm not sure about anyone else, but with all this mesh, when i'm in a group of people, that all have mesh bodies, mesh clothes, mesh hair, mesh god knows what, my video card crashes and hard. I have a G-Force 7300, granted not the top of the line but about 10x's better than i used to have, and it just can not handle all that moving mesh in one place. I love some of the clothes, and i buy hair thats a mix of mesh and flexi, so thats all good, and i could probably live without my mesh body, if i could keep the feet and and hands. I think it is the next move for SL, and probably will get better with time, but for now, im avoiding crowds.
  8. Anyone else notice traffic figures havent changed since last Thurs or Friday?
  9. As soon as you feel your account has been hacked, and being that you can no longer get in, on your usual password, that is about the best proof you are going to get. Call LL asap, and file an abuse report ticket. They will tell you what all to do if you call, but the main thing is what ever avatar you can get inworld on, file the abuse ticket, naming the accounts you can no longer access. I would not delay, as hacked accounts are used to hack other accounts. Hope this helps.
  10. UPDATE: My attacker contacted me a week ago and apologized and promised no more attacks. So far so good. Should his better behavior continue, i will not further at this point my FBI case. Look i am not here to put anyone in jail, that has a RL job, and family, and create just one more succubus on society over an internet gaming dispute. That being said, if ANY attack happens i do have proper reporting systems installed on my computer now, thanks to the agt i am working with, and any IP that attacks will be forwarded to her by email ASAP. Thanks everyone that commented here for your input, and support. Have a great SL
  11. Darrius Gothly wrote: You should also contact your ISP for instructions on how to routinely change your IP Address. Many "hard-wired" services (those that assign an IP Address that persists for months or longer) can often adjust your modem settings so it routinely obtains a new IP Address or with very little fiddling will obtain one. lol at Periphials Darrius, my IP changes everytime i reboot my modem, and i have checked to make sure that it does. Being that he has clocked it several times a day, i have to reboot the modem to get the service back, i reboot it every night as well. I filled out an FBI online report today, gave them all the info i had and what is happening. Evidently DOS attacks are punishable by fine and up to 10 years imprisonment.
  12. Yes i am keeping all my media off for the time being, i have it set to filter as well. However being in a tribute band, there are times when i will have to use the music media. He found me last night at a veterans benefit, and i had it all off in SL, but ran the SURL for the media on my winamp outside of the game. We do use outside messengers to voice, and i will look into getting a proxy for them. I am calling my local law enforcement agency today, and any others they suggest such as the FBI or the FCC. I would imagine since i have his SL name, they can be contacted by these agencies if a crime is being committed, for his RL information. I will call LL also, i would think gathering IP addresses in SL for malintent would be some sort of TOS violation.
  13. Ok here it is, ive managed to piss someone off in SL (like that's hard to do) and now, several times a day, that this individual is online, he floods my IP so hard it clocks my modem and im offline anywhere from 20-40 minutes. He has sent me and one of my friends IM's telling us he is going to do this, at the time he does it, so were pretty clear he can do it, and does do it. I have had my IP provider check my equipment and lines twice, i have been assured in writing it is not a problem on their end. We have gleaned two clues from his IM's, one that he must know the city and state you live in, he got my friends info off her skype account, mine he got from what was once a close friend, and due to my obvious niativity, ive never had much of a problem telling folks what very large city i reside in. Second, he says he does not have to be in the same sim to get my IP address, as we have him banned from our sim. Saturday i was on a totally different sim, one i am not in often, when he started his attack on me that day. BTW my IP address changes every time my modem reboots, which is now daily due to this asshat, and whenever i start up my computer, i reboot my modem, it takes him about 15 min to get the new IP. We have both abuse reported him, with the IM's, and to date, nothing we can tell has happened, he obviously is still in the game. So what im asking, is what can i do, or is there an easy fix, or anything that can be done to stop this. Please bare in mind, i am not completely computer illitereate, but at the same time i am not an IT person in any way shape or form. Thanks for any ideas and advice in advance.
  14. I've used Pay-pal for years in SL, and getting it set up is a royal PITA, but !! If you run into obstacles, their site at Pay-Pal is not very customer friendly, i call them, tell them what problem im having, and someone nice in their customer service dept seems to always be able to help. I feel its a much safer form of payment in SL where account hacking is so prevalent, they would also have to hack your PP account to get very much money out of it. Also its a real good idea to set a limit in Pay Pal as to what can be spent in the game, that might save you some heart ache later as well.
  15. Hobby...lol ..most club owners from the get go realize a club in SL is a money pit. I still find it laughable that there is a place on sim tools to actually charge to get into the region. In all my years here, i have yet to see anyone try that. You would have to REALLY love having a club in SL to keep one open, or be rolling in some assumed prestige, because its far more the norm to have to wrangle folks in with cash and prizes. SL is NOT RL, so lets get past that argument as a very moot point. Yes it would have been incredible had SL started out without the entire tipping thing, and relied on salaries from employers, but sadly that is not the case. There is a whole lot of overhead that has to be met to entertain in SL, in our case instruments, stream, outfits, stages, music we have paid to download, and yes even advertising. Yes we dearly love what we do, but in an act of appreciation, tips would be nice to offset some of that expense. So i guess the point i most wish to make, is if you have a favorite entertainer, or club, or venue, start tipping. Once the well dries up for most of these places they are gone. Once gone, we are all the losers, so appreciate what you enjoy and support them with a few $L, because believe me the club owner or entertainer is most likely paying out of their own pocket to provide you with that entertainment in SL.
  16. If you take it out in increments of less than $500, it may go more smoothly, as LL does not have to send info to the IRS concerning less than $500 payouts, or at least thats what ive been told.
  17. No doubt this DJ made the remark to try and make her feel better, not to say he or she would want to give up tips completely. Going to clubs, and seeing the cash outlay just to get folks in, personally rankles me, its hard to watch the club owners have to pay folks to come to their clubs to have a good time. To me if you win a contest, or some sort of cash prize, part of that should go back to those that have given of their time and talents to entertain you. Not tipping in this instance is just plain rude. Owning an entertainment company in SL, we see crowds of 40 or more come to our shows, and for the most part only 5-10% of those tip, and it is usually the same people. I understand some people do not have the money to tip, but when we get a $20L tip sometimes i look at it as the highest form of compliment. That person could probably not afford to tip, but made the effort anyway to let us know our show was entertaining and they enjoyed it. Playing SL, is an entertainment source everyone can budget into their lives, $5 USD a week will buy you about $1250 L and most ppl if they shop well, and find a modest rental, could still afford to tip. I think most assume SL is like TV and should be totally free, and are constantly looking for ways to get something for nothing. I do feel for those that will not go out because they are lacking Linden, but right now if you're working in SL, tipping has taken a nose dive, so even if you do find a job here, and there's a base salary, don't count on much more than that for your efforts. I find it also incredible to see those really well made avatars with their 4K mesh bodies, 2K outfits, expensive hair and shoes that consistently never drop a dime into a tip jar, and i see this not only at our shows but in clubs and other venues as well. While i don't agree tipping is the best way to go for payment of services in SL, it is at this point so ingrained into our Second Lifestyle i am not sure if it could be changed to any other way. But as an entertainer in SL, we will soon have to increase our prices to the venue, so we can pay our employees a decent wage for their time, because the tip split we pay out at the end of the show is becoming more and more meager. I am totally sure this will decrease our performances, and the GP of SL will have even less entertainment provided to them, but i can not in good conscience ask any one of our employees to give up hours of their lives and not pay them as fairly as we can.
  18. Really not a lot of rules Char, its one big happy land of free enterprise. If you wish to have a home in SL, and even then, thats totally unnecessary, you can make your home at one of the hubs that SL provides. Its one of those places you land in where theres a bunch of strange avatars milling around. Or if you want your own place, you may rent or "buy" a sim, or a peice of a sim, and buy or create your own house structure. There are 2 sorts of sims, mainland or private region. Mainland is attached to vast continents of land, private regions are like stand alone islands or with others that have been fused together. Each sim can be subdivided into parcels, which will cost less to buy or rent than an entire island. Yes theres lots of freebie stuff in SL, but the really good stuff all the popular kids have, costs Lindens, which is Second Life money. So i guess the main rule in SL is, if you want something, be prepared to pay for it, or better yet, learn to create the stuff everyone wants, and then they can pay you. Hope this helps, may you grow and prosper in this incredible world.
  19. First off at one time or another you bought some mainland, and contributed it to your land holdings, which means they are going to bill you for teir. Its not illegal or unethical, if you read the instructions involved with owning mainland. \ 1) CALL paypal and disallow any further payments. 2) CALL customer service at Linden Labs, and ask them how this occurred, as you do not remember buying any mainland. 3) remove all payment info on your account until this is resolved. I have found Linden Labs to always be totally above board in any financial transactions i have with them. Your problem is that you did not follow the rules to abandon land. Also, it does not matter if you have the land 10 seconds or 30 days, you will be billed for the teir a month in advance. Do call, and work it out over the phone with a CSR, they may be able to do something to get your money back, but if it is your fault, own up to it and pay the bill.
  20. Thats going to be helpful for my own items, but we have lots of ppl that have items on the sim and we need to change the group on the land, and use auto return, and i was wanting to avoid having to ask everyone to come and change their objects over..akkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
  21. Is there a trick, or something i do not know about, to be able to change the group name on your sim, and have all the items set out (that are already there) change to the new group name ? Other than the owner of the item, going to each individual item and changing it through edit. Thanks for any help you can give me :)
  22. To me, the Destination Guide is not well looked after, i agree most of the listings on there are very out of date. I tried for months also to get our sim in it, i just kept submitting it month after month, and finally left a note to the editor, as to why it was not listed yet, and lo and behold we finally made it the next month. Keep trying, someone will eventually get it in, once they take the time to update the listings.
  23. Yes you are, but feel in good company. Most of us have been taken for either a roll in the hay or money at one time or another in this goofy place. Just be aware anywhere on the net, the anonymity of anyone behind a keyboard allows them myriads of space to lie, cheat and steal. Unless you've known someone a good long time, and even then, i would keep my guard up. The internet is what it is, and it usually pans out more times than not, to be a very untrustworthy place.
  24. Not so sure about Dell, i've only fried hard drives on 2 computers, and both were Dell. Not sure if they have upgraded them any because i went to a different brand 4 years ago after i lost the last one.
