  1. I can't really tell from your post if you're legit or not, but I might suggest you advertise in a GLBT publication in RL, if you want to use your orientation as a selling point for your psychotherapy services. When I wanted to find an open-minded therapist that my medical coverage would cover, I looked for those who advertised in local free GLBT magazines & cross-referenced them with the list of local therapists my coverage would cover. I found a very good therapist this way.
  2. As has been stated above, it is against the TOS to sell or give an avatar account to another person. However, if you just hate the awkward newbie stage, I'd be glad to send you free transferable, skins, body shapes, AOs & lists of places to get more free clothing & stuff that every new avatar needs to look less noob-like. Just contact me (Persephone Emerald) in world. Also, if you want an old-fashioned last name for your avatar, there are few sites online where you can still register with a first & last name. (Do an internet search on "Second Life registration".) http://registration.scilands.org.uk/ http://www.daden-cs1.co.uk/cgi-bin/sl/regapi/slregistration.pl?api=intro&uid=daden http://registration.secondhealth.org.uk/ Those sites are a few examples, but I haven't tried them to verify if they still work. If you want another last name besides "Resident" try those & any others that register people into SL through their own portal. If I were creating a new alt, that's what I'd do to not be stuck with the stupid, limited naming process most new users are now using. When you have the last name of "Resident" over your head in another person's viewer, that's the first thing that signals you as a noob to them. The next is how your avatar looks & moves. The next after that is how you talk to other people. If you can clean up all these areas, then others are much less likely to look at your profile to see how long you've been in world. If they do, but they see you don't look or act like a newbie, they'll, just assume you're an alt.
  3. Omg, I love that song. That should be the Second Life Anthem. This is the YouTube version I like:
  4. "There was a chinese blogger who recently got kicked of Facebook for using the name Michael Anti, that's how he's known in blogging circles, his argument was that there's an account for Mark Zuckerberg's dog, so it was ridiculous to delete his profile, but Mark Zuckerberg's dog has a page, not a profile." See. This is where the whole "real person, real name" B.S. falls appart. I don't think any teenager should have to put their real name on Facebook, because we've time & time again that pedophiles & stalkers love to find victims on Facebook. I serriously doubt a Chinese blogger wants his RL government linking his blog with his RL name & address either. It's not just those of us who don't want our employers seeing what we're up to in SL that need to protect our real identities. *No One* should be forced to give out their real name on a social networking site.
  5. Wow. Those A.I.F. cats sound adorable. I'm more a dog- person than a cat person myself, but I'll have to give them a look. If their dogs are anywhere as cute as the cats sound, I may end up getting one.
  6. What worries me is that I use the name Persephone in most of my online activities & reserve my legal name only for work & family. I added my SL last name to my Facebook account because they wanted a last name & my friends in SL know me by that name. Just because I want to protect my RL identity, that doesn't mean I'm trying to trick anyone or abuse my Facebook "privilege". I never share my RL information online with people I don't know in RL.
  7. I've taken the Myers-Briggs test before. I came out strongly IN then about equally F/T & P/J. The type that matched me most closely was "Counselor". I'm surprised at the number of Extroverts on the forums. Why aren't you out playing in the real world?
  8. I'd like to subtitle this thread "The Great Pet Debate", but that will only work if many others get into the topic too. By a "virtual pet", I don't mean a cut-out image or simple shoulder pet. I want to know which primmy, scripted, interactive pets you think are the best in SL. I currently have a Zooby white wolf, which I think looks & acts more like a wolf-dog than a wolf. She doesn't have an AI program like some virtual pets do, but she moves on her own & responds to me in ways that make her seem like a real dog. VKC dogs are popular, cute, trainable, but expensive. Some similar dogs are equally cute & cheaper, but do they react as realistically? Do these kinds of scripted & programmable pets cause too much lag? If you have a virtual, scripted pet, why did you choose that one? Are you happy with it? What do you think are it's best & worst features? Would you recommend that brand to someone else? Why or why not? I think Zooby pets are well-made & have good customer support. They're easy to maintain & make an environment seem more real by having moving animals in it. You can interact with them, use them as guard animals, and even become fond of them, but you'll always know they don't really think or feel anything.
  9. Cool. Those pictures give new meaning to the term "ghosted".
  10. If you're using Viewer 2.6 then go ahead & see if enabling avatar physics can make your man-boobs bounce. If you're using the latest Phoenix viewer & you've told your Appearance Editor that you're male, then they unfortunately won't bounce. The guys using avatar physics in the new Phoenix don't get an option for "booby boogy" & some have said trying to get a little belly bounce, ended as a butt-bounce instead.
  11. Great thread, Melita. I love shops that look interesting & are more than just a box in a mall. A couple examples that comes to mind are Earthstones, which has waterways to explore by boat, and Alchemy Immortalis, which has a gorgeous Scotish-type island to explore. Another is a group of regions that sells ocean waves. I think it's called Real Waves. One of my all-time favorite shops, though, is DV8, which I recently realized is a bit like a casino. The walls are dark grey, but the vendors are all bright, the Lucky Chairs function like slot machines that give out clothing instead of cash, and the 7Seas & Riot Room vendors give out enough free & discounted goods at an unpredictable rate that anticipating possibly getting good freebies is a big part of the fun of going there. Pictures & a previous post on the DV8 Riot Room
  12. Maybe look for some very basic building classes - or classes in any subject that interests you. Happy Hippo has some good beginning building classes. One of the best teaches the tabs on the Edit menu.
  13. My box was flat with the semi-transparent side on the front. The interior surface, sides & back were regular textures, but the front-facing surface was 50% transparent. I clicked on this surface to test it. Others also donated money through the box, & I'm pretty sure they also clicked on the 50% transparent surface. When I was trying to figure out how to make a donation box, someone also suggested puting an invisible box around the Linden Relief bear. If a 50% invisible surface would work on a Pay object, I think a fully invisible one would too. - But why argue the point? I'm sending you an 80% invisible Easter egg with a donation script in it, set to pay to me. Drop a linden in it to see if it works. I'll send you back the money if it does. IM me to let me know what happens.
  14. "the pay option is not available on items set with transparency, to prevent exactly this sort of theft.". I don't think this is true, but others should check it. I made a donation box for money to go to Donation Linden for the Japanese disaster. I used a partially transparent texture on one side in order to layer textures & give a double exposure effect. My donation box still worked fine. If a partial transparency would work on a donation box, then wouldn't a full transparency also work on any other Pay object?
  15. While we're talking about making Inventory easier & more fun to use, how about adding another Phoenix feature. Let people narrow the scope of Inventory searches by the type of item they're looking for - eg objects, clothing layers, landmarks, or notecards. Also give them a "Worn" tab on the top, so the don't have to type "worn" into the inventory search bar window to see what they're wearing.
  16. "...The bottom line is V1 is the past and there is no reason why LL should continue to accommodate those unwilling to move forward." Yes there is actually. The bottom line is called money. If enough current users can't afford to get a new computer that can handle Viewer 2, then those people will disappear as potential paying customers for Linden Labs. It's that simple. People will generally use the best equiptment they can afford, but many users can't afford nice new computers that will handle Viewer 2. Many (about half of the users) also prefer TPVs based on Viewer 1, and it doesn't make sense for LL to just thumb their noses at that many users.
  17. The newest Phoenix Viewer includes fixes for that sound clip crasher & one other critical issue, as well avatar physics. This allows folks to watch bouncing boobies on Viewer 2 users or make their own.
  18. You named a specific piece of clothing - glitch pants - so I don't think this sounds like a skin layer problem. To me it sounds like an underwear layer problem. If you're a teen, you can't remove or edit an underwear layer once it's put on. Might that be your problem? If you're a teen, you just have to find underwear or a tatoo on an underwear layer that isn't too obnoxous & wear that. Or you can get a friend to make you some "invisible underwear" ( transparent texture on the underwear layers). It's also not too unusual for clothing to not want to come off sometimes, but I'm not sure of a better fix than taking everything off & then trying to put on something different.
  19. I don't mind if a live model says hello & welcomes me to the shop. That lets me know they aren't bots or AFK. Then if I have a question or need help, I'll ask them.
  20. Thank you to everyone who anwered. I did a clean uninstall & installed the newest version of Phoenix today, which finally fixed the problem. All of you who said the problem was probably hidden files were right. I got rid of them before installing the newest Phoenix Viewer & now I'm back on SL again,Yay!
  21. I tried to do that, but when I create a folder with the same name I used to have, it seems to just disappear off my desktop. I get a pop up asking me if I want to merge it with a pre-existing folder of the same name, but I don't see any pre-exiting folder. When I rename it something different, the viewer tells me the change will take affect after I load it, but then it won't let me load it. It just crashes instead of loading.
  22. Try putting on a new bald (brow shape) & see if that helps.
  23. My roommate says she sees herself as being Ruthed on Viewer 2 even when other people see her as looking fine. I pretty much only use Phoenix & I don't think I I've ever seen myself as completely Ruthed. I've had orange skin, but my body shape looked ok.
  24. I should probably ask this question on the Phoenix forums, but this isn't specifically a Phoenix problem & I'm having trouble registering on their unofficial forums. A few days ago I apparently uploaded a trojan of some kind. My anti-virus program tried to catch & contain it, but for some reason my desktop cache folders for my Third Party Viewers disappeared. I cleaned out the trojans & restored my hard drive to an earlier point, but they are still missing from my desktop. ( I put my viewer caches in separate folders on my desktop as a work around for frequent crashing with the Phoenix viewer. When one shares their SL cache between different viewers, this can cause crashing.) When I try to log into SL with any of my TPV's they close before I can log in. When I try to change in my Preferences where the cache should go, the viewer says that change will take effect *after* I load & close the program, - but then it won't load because it can't find the cache folder that's supposed to be there. I tired re-downloading Phoenix, but that didn't work either. Should I delete my TPVs & then re-download them? Or is there another way to fix the apparently missing cache folders? (Edit to update.) I uninstalled & reinstalled Phoenix, but it still crashed every time I try to log in. The only way I can get into SL right now is wirh Viewer 2, and I hate Viewer 2.
  25. Right! And sculpty plants & rocks also create annoying boundaries around them if they are not phantom.
