Are you sure this is a solid argument? You not only don't understand communism, you don't understand the point that Pam was trying to make. Oh, well.
  2. sirhc DeSantis wrote: At no point did it stop me building in world. You're a minority. Unfortunately, more people did stop creating in SL as the process to create well became harder.
  3. Ren Toxx wrote: If that was her point, how exactly has SL become harder for people to create? Because of mesh? Yes. In 2007 LL introduced sculpties, and that made it harder for people to create. Suddenly, there were two classes of creators, those who used prims, and those who used sculpts. Now we have mesh, and three classes of creators. Each time LL has introduced something that is harder for people to learn, and fewer and fewer people create things in SL. Who wants to make mere prim items with high prim count and have to compete with mesh? So, the percent of people who create drops off. People came to SL and were thrilled to be able to create! (like all those minecraft people are thrilled to create!) LL wanted a pretty looking "game", and have slowly eroded the SL residents ability to create. At one point the new LL viewer even hid the creation tools, and focused on facebook like chat-crap. So, new SL residents couldn't easily learn to create. LL doesn't understand their own product. LL focused on having SL be a "business meeting" place, an "education" place, and so on. They've chased "success" that they see with other systems, games, and platforms, when all along they had (have!) a winner.
  4. Ren Toxx wrote: If clunky graphics were the key to success, Habbo Hotel would be even more popular than Minecraft, and WoW would’ve practically ceased to exist. It's not about the clunkiness. It's about the ability to create. Pam's point is that the clunky graphics do not hinder people from wanting to participate. People care less about the graphics, than they do about being able to create. LL doesn't understand this.
  5. Bree Giffen wrote: SL is nothing like Sony Home. Sony Home was purely content made by the company. SL is not like Minecraft either. Minecraft is designed a whole lot better. That's why it was sold for billions. Pamela was using those as an analogy, not direct comparison. Her point: Having a platform that allows everyone to create, is worth more money. LL has gone in the opposite direction, as the SL platform has become harder for people to create, thus lessening the *draw. * The draw is the ability to create!

  13. TheRealKarenEliot wrote: I don't know, if you are still working on the issue, but this might be interesting for you: http://kareneliot.de/projects/anarchotopia.html “Anarchotopia” is a virtual island in Second Life, providing free space for anybody. Users are allowed to build whatever they like, in any style or size they wish. Since land in Second Life is very expensive, this seems to be a great gift. But be aware: The space is limited and everyone can delete any objects or eject other avatars. The emerging picture will show, whether people would fight each other or live together in peace and create a beautiful place in a shared area. Hmm, in a anarchy situation people would arm themselves, and protect their land, and family (core groups) So, the situation where "anyone" can delete or eject won't hold true for all over. To me anarchy means without a "public" enforced government. But, doesn't mean that individuals wouldn't have the ability to prevent others from taking their belongings, etc. (deleting their objects) (But, an aside: I think people (in general) are inherently good, and if given the opportunity, will choose to cooperate for mutual benefit, so anarchy has a chance to be a positive. It's how human society evolved.)

  17. ZyklonBee wrote: It was always a risk, Ive used this handle for about 3 years now. Never caused a problem.. But in retrospec I should of make it something alittle less risky.. But without the risk there really is no pay off. Im glad some of you understand the underlaying meaning Oh, hell no. What pay off? To offend people?! The only meaning I understand here is that you've deliberately picked an offensive name and gotten away with it for 3 years.

Amethyst Jetaime wrote: You may find this thread interesting http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Postmoderna-SL-2014-Resident-Demographic-Survey-Results-Part-1/m-p/2806582 Of course it is a limited sample of self selected people that took the survey and couldn't be considered scientific by any means but the results showing age groups are interesting . Yes, from that survey: "To gather data, I placed survey terminals at the Postmoderna SL HQ location inside of Second Life, dance venues, the Second Life 11th Community Birthday Celebration (SL11B) and on the community forums. During that time, I was able to capture 119 completed surveys." So, *limited information. Here's some data from 2008, which I think is a more accurate reflection of SL demographics. http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2011/03/gen-y-demographics-in-second-life-43-.html *(I've never heard of Postmoderna SL before, rarely go to dance venues, and didn't go to SLB11. There are probably a higher percentage of SL residents that fall into this category, than that of the 119 survey takers)
