I don't see people shouting down critisism of SL problems. On the contrary, the people who have posted agreed with the OP. Out of the 8 replies to the OP before my post, four were outright dismissive of their complaint that SL was too difficult and only two were in agreement with the OP. I rest my case. Oh, that's right, because you didn't address the rest of my comment. lol Plus, no one "shouted down" the OP! Just nonsense. You were making a hyperbolic statement to lead into your hammering point that you always go on, and on, about. (Sheesh, do you know how many times I've seen you post your avatar pics? Good grief woman, like a broken record)

I don't see people shouting down critisism of SL problems. On the contrary, the people who have posted agreed with the OP. Also, in the seven and half years that I've been in SL, there has been a constant and unrelenting, set of voices putting pressure on LL to address problems. Just about everyone I know, (myself included) has done that very thing. But, you know this, as you read the forums, blogs, feed, off-site forums, and SL-JIRA, ect. You want to knock LL, have at it. But, don't knock the other posters, as they're already doing the very things you suggest!

I try so hard to get my head around Economics, but I find that it is a really, really big subject. I understand some of it, I miss some of it, and the rest is Greek to me. (I so much want to learn the Greek language, but that's more to read, in their own language, the Giants of literature.) I hope your reference to learning Greek to understand economics is a metaphor. Even if you learn Greek....you won't be learning economics that way. Modern Greece has had 190 years of economic crises out of the last 200. Ancient Greece gave us many socio-political ideas and philosophies...but, not an understanding of economics. http://mises.org/library/economic-thought-ancient-greece
  4. Interesting piece that discusses virtual currencies, and mentions our own Linden dollars, and Second Life. (Among other virtual and online places) Good to see SL and the $L still in the public awareness. (My younger son alerted me to this article : ) http://reason.com/archives/2015/02/19/private-money-in-virtual-world/
  5. Xiola Linden wrote: I understand that there are concerns about some moderation decisions. That point has been made and noted, and currently, those questions can be addressed via the support channel. Uh, no they cannot. SL forum issues have never been able to be addressed via the support channel. To test if something has changed, I just went to the support channel, and just as always, there's no path for issues here. I also would be willing to bet money, that if I sent a ticket about a SL forum issue, that I'd be told they don't handle it. They've never done support for the forum. If there's now some NEW rule or support team for the forum, that would be news to us all. (The kind of thing that would be worthy of an announcment. *chuckling*)

Via the support portal here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-contact-customer-support/ta-p/739385 Xiola, I know you're trying to help. But, the support portal not only doesn't have a software path for forum help, but, the support staff aren't able to help for issues here. I know, as I've tried it! We often try to send forum private messages to the moderation team, but if one's banned from here, we can't even do that.
  7. Pamela Galli wrote: How about starting with apologizing to Void, one of the strongest and most knowledgable posters here... Yes, Void Singer, one of the most giving, tireless, and knowledgeable posters. She went above and beyond to help people in thie forums. What did she get for that? A smack-down by "moderation", as she dared to question their tactics. So, we (the SL forum) lost her....and really we lost the heart and soul of the forum. She never even got a reply to her queries about her "warning".
  8. Xiola Linden wrote: In regards to moderation - the moderators do their best in helping to uphold the ToS and Community Participation Guidelines, however if you feel that a mistake or misunderstanding was made, the best route is to contact support so it can be reviewed. First, thank you for reading and replying here in the SL forum Xiola. As to contacting support. They have nothing to do with this forum, and cannot assist us with issues here. Xiola Linden wrote: One thing we'd like to do is start more threads that will allow feedback on announcements here in the forums,.... What announcements? LL and SL developments are routinely announcemented to a select few SL resident's prior to the general SL populace. It's done through people that write blogs outside of here. So, I've stopped paying attention to any SL announcement's.
  9. I've been in SL over seven years, and I can count on one hand, how many explicit RL genitalia pictures I've seen on inworld profiles. It's not many. But, it doesn't matter if "everyone" is doing it. TOS is clear on this issue. Inworld profiles are to be PG (G), not adult. Plus,.....errgh....how tacky. Perhaps LL will give you a second chance on this. (If your account is big-time deleted, only thing would be to file a formal appeal) But, it sounds like you may have burned your bridges when you contacted the support team. (I've only found them to be cordial, so not sure what caused the reaction you experienced. Hmmm)

LlazarusLlong wrote: valerie Inshan wrote: LlazarusLlong wrote: Also, if I was the security consultant for a high-risk organisation such as the publishing house in question, I would have installed multiple entry codes (as banks and other financially concerned businesses use as standard) including a silent alarm number, which I would have insisted that staff knew and could use rather than their normal code when being coerced into providing access by criminals, terrorists or other unauthorised persons, to give warning to those inside and the police. At point of entry, the mother and child would be hostages and victims already, and a logical rather than emotional response would have offered some hope of protection for others. I was thinking the same.

It is sufficient to imagine with what guilt this young woman will have to live for the rest of the life, even though SHE DID NOT HAVE THE CHOICE. She did have a choice, and she made hers. She chose the off chance that they wouldn't kill her child, if she opened the doors. Edited for typo
  12. Aethelwine wrote: Religious "satire" is only indefensible... Nope. It's always acceptable. Just as satirizing any beliefs or idea is. People are under NO obligation to pretend that someone else's made up "belief" is real. (Although, in a polite society mocking other people for having nonsense belief's shouldn't be the norm, if the beliefs promote general ignorance of science and progress, than I think it is an imperative that satire, and rejection, be not only protected, but promoted)
  13. Aethelwine wrote: Freedom of Speech is not an absolute. It is in no one's interests to allow libels, slanders or people to shout "fire" in crowded cinemas. Making that point is not a defence of terrorists Anyone thinking that is extremely wrong headed. There's no law against shouting "fire" in a crowded theater. That's idea arose from a misquoted legal decision. As to "libels and slanders", that applies to real people, not mythology. So, yes, one can mock religion and character's created in those mythological stories. You're arguing that people shouldn't mock *beliefs and ideas. I reject that. Bad ideas (beliefs) should be mocked, and exposed for what they are.
  14. mirbaz wrote: Shame on those who mock others religious figures through these drawings. Anything and everything is open to mocking. But, in particular is mythological nonsense that wants to drag us back to the dark ages!
  15. Hmm, read through this thread, and I'm also interested in finding out the seller's name (and/or product) If someone can either PM me here on the forum, or IM me inworld with the info, that'd be great. (Isn't relisting a marketplace item in order to erase a bad review against the marketplace rules? )
  16. Mamabeaer wrote: Thanks, all. I got it set up now so that henceforth I will be notified as to the song and artist. As for finding out what song it was that I heard at the time when I originally posted my question, can anyone tell me how I would go about contacting the DJ? I have no idea how to find out who they were. If you were at a club, go and look to see if the club has a DJ schedule. Sometimes these are posted in the club. Or, send an IM to the club manager telling what information you're trying to find. Another option: Send me an IM inworld, with the song lyrics and where you heard them when in SL. I'm a good investigator, and might be able to find out.
  17. Mamabeaer wrote: Hmm, I don't know what a "viewer" is, nor "Firestorm". I use this thing called "Singularity" to get into Second Life. Is that a "viewer"? Anyway, thanks. I'll see if I can figure out how to contact the DJ. Singularity is a viewer. (an approved third party one) A "viewer" is the software program which lets us access the data stored on the LL servers. This is how we enter the virtual world of Second Life. On Singularity: Go to Preferences > Vanity > Main (tab) > Check the box fourth fourth from the bottom of the list, It says, "Announce music stream's metadata in local chat when tuned in". Then when you have hear streaming music, look in your local chat. You *should see the names of the songs and artist.

  19. Bah humbug! I don't cotton to that mythos stuff. Do like fiction though. So, have read that convoluted text known as the bible. I don't self-identify with terms like "secular" or "humanism", as I think it's soft-peddling. I'm an atheist. Period. Cheers, for family, food, and goodwill towards our fellow man! We don't need mythology to tell us to be kind to one another. The kindness is reward enough. Thanks to our psychological payoff, which is the reason we're kind to one another. *We* get something out of it! Pretty good evolutionary trait, eh? ; )

  22. Hello CeLine, happy to meet you. I think you sound mature and smart. You're probably more emotionally mature than many of the adults you meet. (Small consolation, but something you need to know : ) Personally, I see no problem with a 16 year old being in SL, and if there had been a virtual world when I was your age, I'd likely have found it myself. But, I don't make the rules here. The US legal system and LL, muddle through the best they can, and you can see the results. (dismal! lol) I have a lot of landmarks, and will sort through them to find G (PG?) ones, and drop them on you. There's better places to hang out then welcome hubs, for sure! It's good to reiterate: You're under no obligation to reply to IMs! If someone sends you a message that clearly isn't something you're interested in, you do not have to reply. Also, you're not being rude by not replying! Feel free to mute anyone who IMs you with sexual suggestions. You do not need to reply or explain to them. If you need someone to talk while inworld, send me an IM. I'm happy to chat through IM, and/or meet you at a PG place.
  23. Maybe the OP's heart will grow three times the size! (Hey, it could happen ; )
