I get a world economic newsletter, and the UK has been tracking faster than the US for pulling out of recession. The UK has managed to achieve lower inflation, lower unemployment, the pound is up, the economy is doing better, all this while staving off the world-wide recession that set back the EU, the US, and a host of other countries. (in particular in contrast to the EU)...so I'm curious. How has your family been hurt? Even the BBC reports UK economy records fastest growth since 2007: http://www.bbc.com/news/business-30999206
  2. Love your post! *laughing* Waiting for next installment to see outcome of your hapless girl! *grins*
  3. Great post! Fabulous looking sailboat! Also, a pox upon the heads of those who toss up ban lines and security orbs!
  4. ireneHF wrote: So, does anyone in the UK play this game? Yes. Plenty of UK people in SL. ireneHF wrote: Where you all at, if you do play and are in the UK? It varies. I know UK people that frequent classical music venues, blues & swing music clubs. Some hang out in adult venues, some in virtual "London" type places. Or, Irish pubs, art galleries, sandboxes, RP communities. The places are as varied as the people. If you're new to SL, get inworld and explore! That's the best way to see the grid, meet people, and find places that you like.
  5. Senobia Xenga wrote: What do you mean "our SL"? You don't own one blessed thing about 'your SL' besides the parcel you may be standing on and a few random prims you may have created. In short, the only thing you're running is your mouth. And when you trash talk for the rest of us who have just as much right to be here as you do, don't be surprised if you get some pushback on that. "our" SL is metaphor. As for what Pam owns, it's quite a bit more than a parcel, and she's made more than random prims. When Pam runs opens her mouth, it's like E. F. Hutton. (If you don't know what that means....well there you go ; ) Pam wasn't trash talking. She was humorously explaining to the OP why they got pushback. Now, as to why you've just now gotten pushback. It's because you were being an ass.

Needless to saycancelled the pfremium. i quickly I kinda get the impression now that the site owners deliberately steer you toward their homes in order to get you to buy premium. Well, at least you got steered. Sorta. When I joined SL, I landed "plop" in a sandbox and two days in got griefed by the cage griefers. They cage you, it takes you up to 3000 meters or so, and drops you!. Being a newbie, you don't know how to fly, so you watch your avatar struggle and plummet to her death....errr the ground. *Bam!* It was traumatic. Then, when I found them, and tried to give them a piece of my freshly outraged mind....they did it again. While laughing. That was the usual welcoming committee in SL. Ah, the good old days : ) Anyhoo, sheesh. You didn't even give SL, or the denizens inworld, a chance to....err welcome you. I suggest you get back inworld and start exploring! Go all over, click on everything. Teleport into places, and sit, click, jump, fall, learn. It's amazing. If you don't love it after actually experiencing it (and it doesn't sound like you have experienced SL yet), then sure....move along. But, SL has the brightest, funniest, incredibly creative people. (Not, me mind you....but they, are out there! ; )

Get a parcel where you have land rights (one you own or rent, etc) and set the parcel's privacy settings on. (little box in About Land that you can click to stop others from seeing or talking to anyone in that parcel) Oh, and thanks for taking away one of my fun activities. *sulks*

I didn't refer to any autonomic responses. That was from one of the....ahem...men...who got off track. *chuckling* Madelaine McMasters wrote: the advent of autonomous automobiles. They better hurry. I don't want to multitask while in the car, I want to take a nap. Madelaine McMasters wrote: Then we'll then be arguing whether that's because more women are performing the studies. Unfortunately our recent STEM trends are going the wrong way. Yes, and my theory on the "why" of the current women vs men in STEM unbalance, is predicated on academic depts deliberately choosing women (over men), to try and achieve the mythical biological sex balance that they're supposed to strive for. Only, like most artificial setups, they let the pendulum swing too far.

I'm game for the hug though, as you could probably use it. ; )
  13. ZoeTick wrote the truth being that men are better multi-taskers when they think it necessary, but are much better decision makers when it comes to prioritising tasks and completing them, whereas the female of the species tends to prevaricate and thus juggles lots of activities, unnecessarily and inefficiently. Source? Because, studies I've read say there is no, "multitasking", instead our brains switch gears between tasks. Some brains do this faster than others. "Sadly, multitasking does not exist, at least not as we think about it. We instead switch tasks." https://hbr.org/2010/12/you-cant-multi-task-so-stop-tr/ http://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2001/08/multitasking.aspx So, it wouldn't matter when men think it's necessary, they do the same gear switching as women, just slower. http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-24645100 (Also, note that within the BBC article is links to other studies. I'd be willing to wager that as more studies are done on this topic, that women will consistently, (on average) out-perform men. After all, men were needed for brawn, prior to modern times, not brains. So, evolution hasn't brought men up to speed...yet. ; )

All the while, engaging in the type of behavior, they attempted to censure. It was ugly to watch, and thinking of them now, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. *Mind you the actual group of LWL wasn’t this core, but they did infest the group.
  16. Forgot to add: If you're using wi-fi, that is harder to run SL. (wireless) Make sure (or try) to get your computer cable connected.
  17. iEatCookiess wrote: I wonder why somedays it crashes a lot, but other days it doesn't crash at all. Today, it's been crashing a lot. Also, I noticed it's slower in places with a lot of people, music, and dancing. If there's less people it actually shows my avatar walking and loads faster. I suppose that's to be expected? If you're listening to music inworld, it will take a toll on your system. Probably crash you. Places where there are other avatars, same thing. Your system can't handle it, or very well. You can go to an empty sim, up to a sky platform, and probably function ok. But, since many in SL want to socialize, your best bet is to avoid places with a lot of other avatars, or don't actually listen to the music at a club, just enjoy the company.
  18. Ok, like the others said, your basic system is old. But, if you haven't tried other viewers, it's worth the effort to try. Maybe Singularity viewer. Also, if you haven't done so, turn off all high graphics, lower your draw distance to the lowest you can. (This will cause distances to fade away to a grayish fog, but up close things you'll be able to see) Make sure you have all other windows closed when in SL. So, don't open your browser, music, or anything. These things may help a little. There are also other threads where this issue is discussed, you may find some useful info by reading these: http://blog.nalates.net/2013/08/28/second-life-and-windows-xp/ https://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/sl-for-slower-computers/td-p/1839263

  20. Innula Zenovka wrote: The distinction is important, since it's impossible to stream music into SL without collecting the IP addresses of the members of the audience, though obviously the DJ or performer has no reason to store or analyse the collected addresses. What it means, though, is that there's no prohibition -- at least not that I can see -- on collecting people's IP addresses and then using this information to ban people who share a particular IP address. What is prohibited is sharing their IP addresses with anyone else or sharing with anyone else the fact you believe a third party has an alt called "Anne Alias" based on the fact the two share the same IP address (or even that you think so-and-so must live in or near London, based on her IP address, if she doesn't mention her place of residence in her profile). Yes, this ^^. I'm glad you covered that part Innula. I DJ in SL, and am careful with other people's data. I think I've only looked at the IPs twice, and it wasn't for any collection purposes. But, IP information can be used to compromise personal privacy. I was in a club listening to another DJ, when to my great surprise, they started greeting people in voice on their stream, by announcing the towns, states, and countries we lived it. So, I heard my hometown, and state, announced to the whole club. I was more than a little irked. I then proceeded to IM that DJ, and tried to explain that it's against the LL privacy rules to share personal information with others, etc. That DJ didn't seem to understand how announcing people's RL locations was an issue. Not realizing, that when there are 15 people in the room, it doesn't take a genius to figure out which avatars go with which locations. (I crossed that DJ off my list of people to listen to)
  21. Are you a "fool"? No, but you are naive. You expected your own script to be followed, without discussing the script with the other player. It's easy to jump into things in SL, but just as easy to open a dialog. Talk to person who invited you into their house. None of us know the person, the circumstances (other than your version), or the person in the picture. We can only give the most general of advice.
  22. Unity Canare wrote: I log into SL onto a roleplay sim, and was told today that sim admins could view and see all local chat?.. is this true or possible without chat enableing devices? Local chat is open for all to see. It's open chat. Outside of local chat range, they can use a chat relay, so they can see it. (a scripted device that reads the local chat, and relays it onto someone) If you want to communicate so others don't see what you write, use IM. (Or, a private voice call) Edited to add: There is the land privacy feature, which will protect local chat within the area where the privacy is activated. But, the land has to be set to this feature for it to work.
  23. Shiva Meiler wrote: Is it possible to know if someone of your friends removed you from their friend list? I use the Firestorm Viewer. If a person is missing from your friend's list, then it's safe to assume that they removed you. (Or, you could look at it as they removed themselves) That's, if you're positive you didn't remove them. A "friend's list" doesn't have any bearing on who can be your friend. I've friend's in SL that aren't on my "list", and people on my list, that I've never talked to. A lot of people periodically prune their friend's list, as they like to keep it small.
  24. HarrisonMcKenzie wrote: And do NOT use that racist **bleep** tone with me, because that is exactly what I am calling into question. As soon as someone says Japan, everyone assumes they are some Naruto loving virgin with no friends, and I have no gone and proven exactly why no one wants to talk with to the OP for having a Japanese name. It is because some people on the internet are petty, racist, elitist dicks who want nothing more than to crap oin other people for having interests. No one used a "racist" tone with you. You're the one who wrote things like "stupid weeaboo" (only you misspelled the word stupid) Nor did you, "I have no gone and proven exactly why no one wants to talk with to the OP for having a Japanese name." Instead you spouted your own biases, and BS. One of my long time renters in SL is Japanese, and he'd be appalled at your rude behavior here as representative of a Japanese culture "scholar". People on the Internet aren't by default, "petty, racist, elitist dicks who want nothing more than to crap oin other people for having interests.". But, what one sees, is often a reflection of one's own attitude. I'm also calling into question your self-proclaimed "scholar" status. An undergrad degree, a few trips, and hanging around people isn't what I'd call a scholar. Nor, does "religious studies" add to credibility for Japanese knowledge. Ditto for "English language teacher". You want credibility? Try acting with some grace, and maturity.
  25. LaskyaClaren wrote: I'm not sure, really, what that means, because the "results" in question are often nothing more than the holding of unpopular views, and/or their articulation in a form that may not conform to the particular standards of a community. Uh, no. That's the annoyance. The results are us being annoyed. Sheesh. LaskyaClaren wrote: I'd have thought that a libertarian would be upholding the right of an individual to articulate her or his views, however unpopular (or annoying!), in the face of a pile-on by the community? You're confusing two different ideas. I do uphold anyone's ability to post, no matter how nonsensical. But, that doesn't mean I don't also find it nonsense. As a libertarian I would support your right to your own blog, 100%. But, this isn't your blog. It's a privately owned forum. Our rights (mine included) don't apply the same here. LL decided that. (So, as long as LL is chill, you're fine ; ) But, I can still be annoyed, and make an effort, to get you to discuss something other than topics that don't interest me.
