  3. It's not broken for me, it works fine. Lets cast our minds back to Second Life of 15 years ago in 2009 when they were getting extended media coverage not just in the US but in the UK as well. Second Life was making headlines due to corporations renting land, universities renting land and the media was all a frenzy. That was the main "Golden Age" which you say didn't exist, well, that's your opinion, people can have opinions. Your opinion is blatantly and factually wrong but you are within your rights to have it, even with the slight throwing of shade at my aptitude for my RL work. Again, your opinion, which again...is wrong. Fast forward to Second Life of 10 years ago in 2014 when there was a second wave of media coverage that sprang up in the EU and UK first, that as well orchestrated a surge is new players coming in. Both of those examples were devised by a general media push by certain individuals within Linden Lab itself. So to say that they have never had a clue what they are doing just shows how far off the mark you are.
  4. As someone who used to write for several online large news sites in the UK, i can tell you what the basic, fundamental problem is with Linden Lab and its plan to attract new users. Was it the dated graphics (pre PBR)? That had a little to do with it. Was it the clunky user interface and the steep learning curve? That had a little to do with it. The biggest problem Linden Lab has is the press and media's portrayal of Second Life as some seedy backwater of miscreants and deviants. You only need to look at some of the articles that came out last year from large online game and news sites which repeatedly showed videos of Second Life from ten...years...ago which makes their readers think that SL has not changed one single bit. A lot of the media has simply forgotten Second Life even exists, we all saw it with the whole "Metaverse" Facebook garbage that Zuckerberg talked about, most of the media writers when informed of SL said "whats that?!" As a marketer for a very large company in RL, i look at Linden Lab and Second Life and realise there is one thing that they have had missing for almost a decade. A marketing team that actually knows what, where and who to target. A marketing team that can unroot the giant boulder of Second Life and start it rolling again for a "Second Golden Age". With PBR in the client, Linden Lab have a golden opportunity to push the Second Life brand back out there to a media and gaming world which looks on SL as a joke. Are they doing that though? No, they are not, and THATS the biggest single point of failure. They will not be able to attract and second new wave...if everyone out there thats heard of SL looks at it like some kind of joke from two decades agao.

  14. As someone who used to bounce from club to club to club a lot, one of the major reasons why a growing number, but still a minority, of clubs simply refuse entry to system avatars is a simple one. The majority of griefers...are using system avatars. Now am i saying that the majority of people using system avatars ARE greifers? No i'm not, but what i am saying is when i see a system avatar show up, a part of me is thinking "are they gonna greif?".

  17. Ok Paul, show me where Linden Lab has said to prepare for a graphics renderer pipeline that will make their CURRENT (read that...CURRENT) min spec's on their website unable to run Second Life? I'll wait...
  18. I'm just going to tell you a few stories from my point of view. I'm in my late 40's, soon to be 50 in a couple of years time. As such i hang out at a lot of the clubs that plays 70's/80's music. I am friends with a lot of people who are in their late 50's or have retired and are living on a pension or small savings. Over the course of the last 3 days over 10 people have said they are now leaving Second Life. 5 of them have given up their land and have already left. The clubs that i am going to that have an older population...their traffic has plummeted. Linden Lab are sacrificing the older population in a HOPE (and thats all it is...a hope) of brining in a younger crowd. ...and before someone commeents by saying "just buy a new computer". Try telling that to a pensioner who is living on a state pension in the UK, who's only real social interaction was Second Life. The planet is in the middle of an economic downturn, not everyone is a rich.
  19. I applied, filled out the form, got a notecard back saying I was accepted then...nothing. Checked the notecard again today and apparently, it's now past the build period and the plot I should have had is probably passed on to someone else. So much for me taking part in SL21B.
  20. One for MyStory (*and other system) users! Special farmland plots are up for rent in the Stonybrook farm region of New Haven!
