  1. Maybe an American Civil War? Most of the country is already armed, in the event of a crisis such as hyper inflaction for example, war could erupt at any moment between those that have the things they need and those that do not.
  2. I have travelled to China for work allot over the years and have been able to connect to SL using a VPN whilst staying there. There are also lots of people based in China who are already using SL. So if poeple in China want to log onto SL then there are already ways to do it.
  3. OK, I see how it works now,,,,thanks! Still not doing it until I absolutely posititvely have too though :matte-motes-asleep:
  4. Yay.....another victory for the lazy! /me starts a mexican wave.
  5. Hmm another thread specifically designed to guilt me into starting the DD migration I suspect. :matte-motes-big-grin: I have a question . Where is the "Merchant Outbox"? I've never specifically looked for it but can't say I have ever seen it in my day to day use of the viewer, I use the latest version of firestorm.

  7. I got into all that social networking and blogging last year and just found it took up too much of my time. Working full time in RL I get 2 to 3 hours a day working on SL and doing the social media thing sucked up allot of that time didn't push my sales up significantly. I found spending the majority of my time building new and fresh content resulted in the highest return for my time.
  8. I sent a ticket asking about the migration date this morning. I'll let you know if I get any response.
  9. When the news broke that LL were developing products that were alternative and separate to second life I voiced my concern on the forums. I still have those concerns. SL is clearly already under-resourced in terms of manpower, support and investment. Any time that LL employees devote to creating new products, is time that is not spent fixing the problems that exist on the grid today, or developing SL into something that could appeal to a wider audience thus making it more sustainable. The main argument people made about that opinion was that it was good that LL were developing new revenue sources. Down the road these new revenue sources could help carry and support SL and slow it's progression into obscurity. I don't agree with this opinion. As soon as one of these "other" projects shows any sign of being successful and profitable, more resources are going to be put into further development.....resources that could have been spent on SL. If any of these other products go viral then SL is screwed. If any of them are even mildly successful then I fear the worst for SL. If a company is given a choice between pumping money and resources into a new product that has proven to be success versus an old product whose usership is in decline, then they are going invest in the new product every time. So I hope that all of LL's new products fail big time. I think any success that LL has with "other" products will ultimately be a detriment to SL.

You havn't lived! no .. i have not .. & i dont believe in involving dogs in police or military operations either .. its animal abuse! Jeanne It doesnt feature an actual dog. The bounty hunter in the show is nicknamed "Dog" He is a cross between Chuck Norris and an 80's pro wrestler who accidently wandered into a feather and bead shop and came out the other side looking like a complete *bleep"

  12. In 20 years of Windows usage I have never actually purchased a copy. Suck on that Bill.

  14. Yeah, I think they would have to allow direct resident to resident transactions to continue on any land. So the system could and would be gamed. But this is Second Life....whatever system is in place is going to be gamed, just as the MP is now. Just got to accept that fact and work aorund it as best as you can. I realise it is never going to happen, but I think something drastic needs to happen if SL ever hopes to retain and recover it's users.
  15. Phil Deakins wrote: The 2-tier system of tier is an interesting one but I'd imagine that it could be quite problematic with people breaking the rules too much and people owning different 'types' of land. Yeah it would need to be automated I think, managed somehow through the land settings. By default all land would be non commercial and charged at a lower tier. However the owner would not be able to set items for sale on that land. Any prim rezzed would have the sell option grayed out. Go into your land options and check the "sell on this land" checkbox and that changes the land to commercial. You get a warning about an increase in tier (as you do when purchasing land) and have the option to back out before committing. I obviously am not a programmer and would not know how to achieve this but I bet it could be done. I guess vendors may be problematic.
  16. Same here, I test buy all new stuff to make sure it works.
  17. Kampu Oyen wrote: This is just one more problem that should be easy to solve, but which goes unsolved in order to discourage you from using the SLM. LL needed an excuse to stop people from using Xstreet and go back to paying for land in order to sell stuff, but if they did it too quickly and transparently, they'd have been exposing themselves to certain things. Thus they built a replacement system for Xstreet which, given steady modifications at least, could gradually frustrate merchants to the point where in-world sales begin to seem like the only solution. I think you are giving LL far too much credit here. It would be great if they could concoct some diabolical plan to destroy the MP and drive business back inworld, but alas I don't think that is their intent. I think it is just happening by accident due to the usual ongoing incompetence.
  18. Hard times or not, the cost of tier is too high and has been since the mainland bubble burst years ago. They need to adopt a 2 tier system, one for commercial usage and one for everything else. If you want to use your land to make money then you pay the higher (current) tier rate. For non commercial useage you pay a greatly reduced tier. Whilst they are at it, they should close the marketplace, fix inworld search, stabalize the grid and drive the merchants and shoppers back inworld. LL need to work out a new way to take a cut off of our sales inworld without relying on an external 2D webstie. This will drive up land usage and their income, possibly giving them enough leeway to create and manage a 2 tier system. Imagine if they could slice tier prices by 50% for non commercial use? Stick that in big letters in ads accross the internet and it would be a great incentive to entice back the hundreds of thousands of customers that Linden Labs have lost in the last 10 years.
  19. Cinthia Shinn wrote: And from alt to alt, you are the owner of a group that offers full perms stuffs, are you going to buy any business and then give it away with full permission again to others? I don't think that's really relevant. Normally when someone sells a business in SL it is lock stock and barrel. The new owner has full permissions over all the products and can do with them as they please.
  20. Microsoft are about to severly shaft Steam with the built-in Windows Store in Windows 8. Valve are reacting by trying to push the delopment of gaming titles onto other operating systems which has no chance of making up the share of the market they will loose in the coming years to MS. So based on that logic Valve must be looking for whatever additional revenue streams it can find that fit into it's business model. I would expect Valve are pushing as hard as they can to get their grotty little finger as far as they can into what is left of the SL pie.
  21. I feel your pain. Everything I sell is still done via MB...thats over 2500 items across 4 avatars. At first I justified my desicsion to hold back because I never have any problems with MB's, so if it aint broke then why fix it? However I have since come to the conclusion that it is just bone idle laziness on my part. I am seriousy considering phoning up a local temping agency and hiring someone for a few days to do the job for me....that's how much I cant be bothered with this bollocks. :matte-motes-angry:
  22. I got annoyed with this too. I just set up my email to automatically file all SLX / SLM mails in their own folder so I never see them in my inbox. This can be done with Gmail and Hotmail. I don't think I have looked at one of those sales notifications for 6 years now.
  23. Cool, thanks Sassy, I shall continue to adopt my "can't be arsed with it" approach then. :matte-motes-big-grin-evil:
  24. Is there a set date for when DD wil become madatory and MB's will not longer work?
  25. Blah.... you noobs have had it too good for too long. Back when I started in SL there was more down time than there was up time. Things broke on a daily basis. Did we complain constantly? No. Why not? because we could never log into the bloody forums. So count yourself lucky you have somewhere to complain. You kids today don't even know you're born. For the record....I also remember when all this was fields.
