My post did not imply discrimination to anyone in particular this time Agent Letov. ;-) And I don't market or advertize anything (or change prices for that matter) and havent made anything new for a couple of months now so It couldnt be any of that. Most merchants are unwilling to bring their prices down over time to compete with the newer lower price stuff, so I'm sure that is the main aggregate when it comes to gradual sales fall off for most, but such sales jumps (like doubling) all of a sudden after a couple of years of much more stable sales volume can only be explained by L.L. messing with things. ;-)

Don't be a greedy merchant. Right now there are twice as many things with copy/mod perms when compared to mod/transfer perms on the marketplace. If it was up to most of the customers it would be more like 10 to 1. ;-)

My Marketplace sales are up a great deal since many of you reported sales dropping precipitously. Maybe it's that 100% commission cycle through thing that L.L. seems to do regularly. My inworld sales seem to have dropped off a bit however. Anyone else having an unexplainable jump in sales recently?

My sales seem to have increased a great deal on the Marketplace for the last month or so. Maybe even doubled. Of course that makes me very suspicious of L.L. ;-)

Now my question to the experianced merchants: What would you suggest to get into as a beginner? What product could the market need? Go for tinies and petite stuff. What particularily? Anything. ;-)

<p>If LL should decide to lower tier and startup fees I am sure new people will start using SL and people that moved away to, for instance Open Sim like environments, will come back to SL. I am afraid though that will never happen. Bingo! My cheap product sales have about doubled in these times of world economic crisis. Go figure. ;-)

Naturally you are going to get more competition at the higher traffic places and especially with the 'higher end' stuff, (including LM vending) and the rent will cost more too. And if the shops are placed off the beaten track (the fun parts) that can be a problem too. LM stalls are probably a waste of money anyhow as I hardly ever see them where I go anyway implying that they don't work for the mass majority of merchants out there. ;-)

Nope. got smooshed again :-( This smoosh problem has been happening for the last few days or so ive noticed for me. Which makes me think that L.L. is just trying to irritate me hoping that I will just leave. I wonder if they are friends with the Yahoo peeps since I have recently been blacklisted there as well as they use similar tactics. ;-)

"I dunno, and I suspect it depends on your product line and marketting strategy. Certainly my business partner and I (she's the animator, I'm the scripter, and we sell all our builds under her name) have never paid attention to search ratings, since they've always been flawed. We rely primarily on other marketting techniques. And I get all my freelance scripting work, and always have done, from referrals and repeat business. But we sell high-ticket items to a particular client base, and don't really depend on "passing trade". So it's not really affected us much. The people I know it has hit, though, are commercial landlords and venues generally, since people looking to rent store space are worried about traffic (I am, in this context, since I regard a lot of our stores more as advertising than as retail outlets), and people who run venues, since visitor counts are important when you're looking for a place to go to hang out, or so I find". Do you sell products or advertize in sims with low traffic ratings? Do you not consider traffic ratings in sims an important revenue and/or sales source for your business investments? If you use sims for marketing and sales, then the merchants and landlords will be tied at the hip when it comes to a successful business at any particular sim. So the question becomes not if you are losing sales, but how many sales are you losing for not considering traffic counts as important. ;-)

In world searches for things, particularly products to buy are usually done with the "Traffic high to low" selection in 'places search' using the Firestorm viewer. Why places? Because product is heavily sold at places that have some logical relation to the product. For example if a peep is interested in buying a 'magic lamp' they are going to do a place search for 'magic lamp' and order it by traffic: high to low. People equate high traffic with high quality, high value, and high popularity regardless to the actual reality of the matter and if the search results list is long enough, things at the bottom of it often times don't get looked at or visited at all. On The Marketplace it's 'relevance' because the all important popularity factor is already built into it. Yep, they both look the same to me too.

I don't think i've tried to search the marketplace without being signed in. But my sales have been above average this last week.

"I'm going to be the dumb one here but I have to ask because I don't seem to see any sales effects of this issue".. Higher in world traffic on a keyword search will sell your products just like bringing up the first few pages does on a The Marketplace relevance keyword search. Why is this? Because the vast majority of peeps don't typically want to flip through dozens of pages of search results to find things to buy and so of course they will default to 'most popular'. (Some of the posts are suggesting that not everyone is being effected the same in this matter). ;-)

I thought L.L.s bread and butter these days was taking their 100% cut on the marketplace. hehe ;-D

(sighs) L.L., instead of all the deceptions, please just take a 10% cut and be done with it. :-(

My friends in effect give me the crucifix sign with their index fingers whenever I suggest they try out S.L. thinking they would get sucked into it being creativity freaks like myself which they probably would. hehe ;-)
