  2. @rose ... In theory having a very large inventory could slow you down considerably. No idea why I didnt think of it earlier, but your inventory list is cached (stored) on your hard disk. So if the space you reserved for SL cache is around the size of your inventory, there is no room to store anything else and everything you see on screen will have to be downloaded from the SL servers every time you have them pop into view. I don't think your inventory list will be anywhere near as big as the load of textures you have to download, so it's very very unlikely an issue. You can set your cache space a bit higher, but that folder on your harddrive is fragmented beyond belief, so having it very large can be an issue by itself I can imagine. Sorry for all the technical talk, but it's a technical issue and an academic one aswell ( maybe it becomes a real issue if you have 500 000 items in inventory, I really don't know). So again, I do not think your inventory is causing any problems. That's an interesting point. Wouldn't good cache management include the auto clearing of old cache items so the ones being used at the moment can be "held"? Idk how that would work from a programming perspective, so I'm really asking!
  3. Mr. Poet's great! Try Muism too, and Redgrave. And DeLa.

"Lag" as we call it in SL can be caused by many factors and many settings. Most lag issues are on the client side. Since you have a good computer, I would ask about your connection. SL is notorious for not liking wireless connections, so if possible make sure you're wired in instead. Also, in preferences there is a bandwidth setting, dont set it too high. This can cause problems as well. Streaming media such as music and video can also cause lag in SL. If you have these turned on in prefernces, you might try turning them off and see if things improve. There is a general Lag topic in the wiki here http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Lag It offers some suggestions. The other article I recommend is this one, as it explains how resources are allocated in SL http://analutetia.com/?p=7191 As a note, someone mentioned scripts cause lag. They do not, as they are the last thing to load, the last thing to run, and if there are no resources available for the server to run them, they simply will not run. This means a script may not start or run, but it will NOT contribute to slow texture loading, problems walking, etc.
  5. Voice server not connected will show if voice is not enabled. That's a preferences setting and shouldn't affect fps.

  7. Marianne Little wrote: You can try a Hucci demo if you haven't already? Hucci goes different ways and offer this size selection: "Mesh items in 5 sizes, Standard size small and medium, standard size medium with larger breasts and the 2 Hucci curvy sizes." https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/HH-Hucci-Nisca-Dress-DEMO/3252469 I also bought a sundress from Beetlebones who had a genious solution, the top and skirt isn't one piece but 2 different attachments. Very interesting, since you can wear small in skirt and large in top? I tried just the same, but the other way around, xxs in top and large in skirt, and it didn't look bad. This is a genious solution, IMHO. I am the opposite of your shape, small breasts but round hips. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/BB-Shushu-Frill-Mesh-Party-Dress-DEMO/2873938 Finally Bare Rose, here is a cut from a review: "The busty version of Night Blinger says 70 chest 30 cleavage 70 buoyancy. It will hold bigger. I'm wearing it right now with 88 shoulders, 76 boobs, 28 cleavage and 72 buoyancy, and it fits perfectly. Compare this to some of the other sellers who offer full perm kits with a so-called curvy size that barely fits a pre-pubescent girl. I have seen one template dress that requires a 42 - yes a 42 chest. Please support this designer. Maybe the others will get their heads out of the sand and start making stuff a majority of people can actually use." https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/BR-Night-Blinger-773-Xst/289938 There are a few designers who are making multiple pieces and yes, love that solution. I suggested early early on before the deformer started combo garments with clothing layers and mesh together, but so far have seen only one dress done this way. I will definately try those you suggested. I haven't given up yet! As an aside, I played with the deformer this weekend. It deformed garments over my hips and rear end perfectly....got nowhere near over my chest. *sighs* I know it's not done yet, so I keep crossing my fingers.

Marianne Little wrote: The largest in standard sizes is this: Body Fat: 24 Torso Muscle: 48 Breast Size: 71 Love Handles: 39 Belly Size: 14 Leg Muscle: 69 Butt Size: 62 Saddle Bags: 45 How much larger do you want? You could type in your vital numbers and compare with this. Since sliders go up to 100, I guess some want to have breast size 100. Since 100 is the biggest you can get with sliders, a 100 size is probably GG? I am not sure if the deformer will work well, from 71 to 100? From what I seen, small adjustments work best, or else the texture will be deformed and we would not want that? Well Marianne, I'm a small. Except for my chest. If I wear the large it looks just that, like a garment that is way too big. But oh yeah, it still doesn't fit over my chest. Not only that, I don't particularly want to be a 'standard' size. Yes I am waiting eagerly for the deformer, and am excited about the possiblities. But having the deformer will not, as you point out, solve the texture stretching issues. One of the advatages of mesh shoes I've noticed is the textures look so much better, sharper, cleaner, with less stretching in general. I'd like to get to take advantage of that with mesh clothing and the deformer as well, but that will never be the case if designers only make one size to begin with before the item is deformed.
  9. Medhue Simoni wrote: Again, there will be no conforming your shape when the deformer is released. Designers don't have to make anything more than 1 size. That 1 size will fit every single shape possible. It might not always fit as perfectly intended, as certain things might look better if specifically made for some1 larger. Generally tho, the deformer will stretch to whatever size you are. Yes, it did deform a bit chunky in the first tests, but that is quite easily fixed, which Qarl describes in detail. If some1 is telling you that you will still have to change your shape after the deformer is release, they have no clue what they are talking about. Right, except that stretching deforms not only the shape but the texture. It's a problem with "regular" clothing layers, and will be a problem with mesh as well. Also like you mentioned in an earlier post, rigging matters. I don't know the 1st thing about rigging...I only know that mesh hair moves through my breasts insead of over them. I don't think the deformer will fix that. .
  10. I’m a very curvy girl in SL. I’m a very curvy girl in RL too. One of the things I have always enjoyed about SL is that I can buy largely anything I’d like to, and if the designer has done their job right, I can make it fit, big chest and all. In RL, sometimes even my tailor is confounded and can’t alter a garment to fit. But in SL, that has rarely been a problem. Until now. Mesh clothing has come to SL, and I love it. I can’t wear any of it though. Why? Designers apparently have no desire to design for the curvy girl. In SL, as RL, apparently if you have breasts, nobody wants you to wear their clothes. Yes, I know the deformer is coming. But with rigging, I will still likely only be able to wear some things. Hair is a perfect example. I have tried the mesh hair, and some of it is really wonderful. I can’t wear it though. Rigging is done so the mesh will move with your body….unless of course your body protrudes in front. I have run across this problem with every mesh hair I have tried. Goes right through my chest. No bones to rig to in breasts apparently. I don’t want to hear “just change your shape”. NO. I have made small changes to fit boots or some regular prim clothing, and this is a reasonable thing to do… but I won’t make a major change just to accommodate fashion. And I shouldn’t have to! I like the way I look. So this is a post to plead with designers. Please please please, try to think beyond the small breast box. Please. I’m begging. Most of you already have an XS, S, M, L and XL in the box. Make a curvy that’s REALLY curvy. C cups are not curvy! Try a DD. Or bigger! The designers who do this will end up with the lion’s share of business in SL. I have 100 hairs in my inventory. I have 30k items, and I don’t build. Think about that. I have money to spend, and I’d love to spend it on mesh clothing and accessories. Let me throw my money at you!
  11. The Mermaid diaries has some nice tutorials for very beginning clothing creators. You can find them here: http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2008/01/day-475-creating-clothes-with-photoshop.html There are also tons of tutorials on YouTube, just search "second life clothing tutorials" Good luck!
  12. I find clearing cache from outside SL, as well as deleting the contents of the "temp" folder, will often solve this problem. Follow the instructions at this link, just don't actually uninstall the viewer. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231
  13. I don't have much lag, but then again I have a computer hefty enough to run SL well. I love the new user interface with it's flexibility. Mesh? Mesh boots rock! Can't wait for the mesh deformer to be done hopefully soon. Fake display names?? *looks over my head happy I can share my hubby's last name* Check your preferences, you don't have to even SEE display names it's totally optional. My ranch can be found in search by those looking for it, and my sales haven't dropped. I bought land recently, and rented some too! Didn't have any trouble finding it either. Not sure what this lagg on a prim is you speak of. I seem to be behidn the times on that one. Noob based??? I don't even know what that means. You can do it, download a V3 viewer....come on it's not so bad! Come to the dark side!
  14. Her computer info would be helpful, what video card, driver version, what version of windows, processor, etc. Sounds like a video card issue but hard to tell without info about her specs. As for her whole computer slowing down, go into debug settings and change her background yield time to 200 or so. This will give other programs running on her system priority over SL if the client is minimized. Let us know if that helps with her whole system slowing down when she's running SL.
  15. The basic rule of thumb is report, eject, ban mute. Over and over. With tools availalbe that will alter IP addresses and such (yeah that's not technical, but give me a break) there's little LL can do I would suspect. They will ban by IP address if they get numerous reports on individuals. But there are ways around the banning of IP adressess I believe. I don't think they ban whole groups for the abusive actions of some of it's members, and frankly, I don't think they should Never engage a griefer. Report, eject, ban, mute, but don't ever speak to them. Eventually they'll get bored if they don't get a reaction. That's been my experience anyway.
  16. Can you link us to a sample of what you're talking about? I'm not sure what you mean by cartoony.
  17. Try taking it to a sandbox and seeing if it will connect from there. If it will, it's probably a land problem. If not, it could be the box itself. That's all I can think of to try. Good luck.
  18. Where did my post go? It was on topic and everything! Thank you for the link to the keynote adress Sy I hadn't seen that. What he said though was not profit, he said, I believe, "top line" is 75m. I believe that's in refernce to revenues not profits, or did I misunderstand? I do understand the frustration with the mesh and mesh deformer not being implemented at time of release. And yes,the community shouldn't have to pay for it. There are finite resources as I said before. From the address you linked me to, it looks like bug fixes are the focus until the end of the year. Both new and old have to be worked with.
  19. If you're wearing more than one tattoo layer using the "add" function, try removing them. There's been some bugs identified with multiple tattoo layers being worn at the same time. If you're not wearing multiple tat layers, then you stumped me!
  20. Hello everyone. I tried the new LL viewer last night, and am still having the same problem I have been having with both V2 and now V3. Namely, the world lags when I use the LL viewer. My draw is only on 128, graphics on high, which is acceptable in all 3rd party viewers. I'm back to firestorm now because I cannot move smoothly using the LL viewer at 128 or even 64, but I normally run Firestorm (and Kirstens before it) at around 500 draw distance and on high settings and everything's smooth and beautiful. So I'm wondering what the difference is between the TPVs and the LL viewer that is causing such a huge performance difference for me. Is it something I can fix with a simple setting in preferences or a debug setting that will give me smooth movement and good performance at that high a draw without sacrificing the quality of the world around me? (Please don't make this another bashing the LL viewer thread. I really am looking for help here.)
  21. Medhue, thanks for your comments. As for bringing mesh to SL , yes, I do understand it was a monumental task. My orignal question never criticized LL. My original question and comments were regarding combining regular sculpties and rigged mesh to make a better, more useful product for one of the things that interests me in SL, which is clothing. I wanted to know if anyone was doing this or if there were limitations to doing this I did not understand. I just saw some skirts that combine clothing layers and rigged mesh in a way that will fit all avatars and not require resizing. So I'm excited that there are some clothing designers that are working with rigged mesh who are starting to think outside the "mesh only" box on this.
  22. Yeah I've been following the JIRAs on the "fixing" of rigged mesh. But LL we know, is slow. Will they fix it? Most likely yes. In my SecondLIfetime?? In the meantime, yeah, I know that it's not a perfect solution, but then those of us who won't change our shapes would get to take advantage of some of the rigged mesh items. And it would give designers more opportunity NOW. Something else to remember...if I like your partial rigged mesh items, when(if) LL fixes the resizing issue, I'm probably your first customer. If I knew how to create sculpts or rigged mesh (or had time to learn) I'd be all over this potential market. Why wait?
  23. So I think most of us have seen mesh dresses and boots and things by now, and many of us have a love/hate relationship with mesh clothng already. The general opinion that I've heard expressed from many people is mesh looks great, works great, but they're not changing their shape to wear it. I agree. I'm cuuuurvy and I'd rather be curvy than take advantage of much of the mesh out there. I've tried a few pieces and have come to the conclusion that for clothing constructed totally of mesh, it's just not gonna work for me. I've got boots. But dresses and shirts, forget about it. So that's the background. I bought a coat today, which I adore. It's serveral sculpted pieces, upper and lower body, and two for each arm. I fit the top to my curves no problem. But of course, when I move, the lower portion of the coat passes through my behind and legs. Sighs. This would be good in mesh, but then I couldn't wear it. So designers... question. This coat would be perfect if the arms and bottom portion were done in mesh, but the upper body portion done with sculpties so it could be adjustable. Is there any reason why this wouldn't work? We've heard alot about mesh being good for some things and not so good for others. it seems to me this is one of those examples where a combination of the two available methods would work well, and make the advantages of mesh clothing so much more available to a wider audience, while still keeping the advantage of the sculpt when it's appropriate. Designers, I haven't seen anything like this out there. Anybody know if there is? Anybody working on this?
  24. While this won't help with the texture stretching and losing the detail, I have had great success dropping a notecard on a designer for a product I've purchased and requesting a mod version instead of a scripted fit version. I just explain the issue and never once have I been told no. Good luck.
  25. I know that SLink is offering the service of creating a mesh "model" of your own shape and then fitting their items to it. You pay a fee for the model and then a nominal fee in addition to the purchase price to have items for sale in the store custom made to fit your shape. I don't see LL offering resizing of rigged mesh anytime soon, so I hope more creators offer this option. I would cheerfully pay a fee to several of my favorite creators if they were to work in mesh and offer this service. My shape is *very* curvy and even the curvy demos in most of the mesh items I've seen so far don't come close to fitting. Since I have no desire to change my shape, I'm out of luck for alot of items unless this service is offered.
