  1. Yes, we have an old fashioned saying in England to describe this thinking; Cutting your nose off to spite your face" Apart from anything else, it's not different than eBay or indeed any RL bricks and mortar business, you have to pay interest and bank charges, rent for the RL store, utility bills, you have to pay TAX and VAT and buy the stock to sell. I can only assume people who STILL feel this way are not serious about business because everyone knows a huge majority of shopping is done on the Marketplace now. New SL'ers are kind of taken by surprise when I mention "In world store" its almost alien to them they think its "quirky" lol
  2. Hi Meshes, Interesting tool that! Although, ignorance is bliss for me. I can't stand the emotional stress of chasing people down for license issues. I have come to expect and accept people will share files if they can. Not just in SL but on the www in general. It's part and parcel of "digital goods" industry. Personally, I don't limit customers from sharing the texture they have purchased from TRU with their own alternative accounts or partners. The alternative account issue, as far as I am concerned is the same RL person so I have no issue with that. The Partner issue I also am fine with because people build in teams or couples. It doesn't make sense to have 2 people from a couple buy the same textures to work on a project they're building JUST to avoid cross sharing. You cannot control file sharing in SL when you set the item to full perms. I have tried over the years and it's just a big fat waste of negative energy.
  3. "I love your name. I always assumed you started here as a pole dancer or something and then ended up with the most successful texture brand in SL using a porn type name. That always amused me. **Only uploaded images may be used in postings**://secondlife.i.lithium.com/html/assets/emoticons/mattemotes/big_grin.png" border="0" alt=":matte-motes-big-grin:" title="" />" LOL OMG if you knew me for real you would laugh as hard as I am right now in relation to the thought of me Pole Dancing! "No Sex please. We're British" If I contacted you about window textures I would be amazed if I didn't offer to buy the resell rights for them back then...I had NO skill in the way of texture creation in 2004 - 2006...very few people did...98% of texture stores in SL were literally people selling what they found on line...and yes that included mine too. We learn by example. I went to what was THE SL texture store (TU) and thought "I want a huge texture store like this too" so I did what that store and indeed every texture store on the grid did...I Google them. I was dabbling with edits and modifies but did not have the skill to create true game textures and so I purchased them from builders etc The crap hit the fan when ppl recognised them and I was told that they were ripped game textures. I had paid 150K Linde Dollars for those! Anyway, I had to totally wipe the slate clean and start over and I am glad I did. It taught me to grow up and take things a lot more seriously. I had to seprate myself from the "Google texture stores" That was many years ago now and whilst there are still texture stores selling nothing but Google clip art on the SLMP, there are also superb talented artists and companies in SL now and they paved the way for those who want to get serious and ethical. In short, SL has grown up. in 2004 no one understood copyright, why would they? Its not something we learn in schools and unless you work within the industry already, its just a word we see on the back of a DVD cover. And only a tiny % of SL'ers had 2D experience.. its hard to imagine now, but that's exactly what it was like. RE: My name. I came from There.com.. was sent a "free pass" from Linden Labs via email...so I created an account...saw Filth was there and it amused me...I had no intentions of sticking around...I was just seeing what it was like.. hindsight is a **bleep**
  4. Further Question. If you had the chance to turn back time, knowing what you know now about SL and your role here... would you pick the same name again? I ask for obvious reasons **Glances at my own name**
  5. oooooo I can think of at least 3 people who are turning purple reading that! lmao. And prolly another 80 who don't know me from Adam, but have still think I am a total up my own arse, British **bleep** .... yes...I REALLY am!
  6. Where are you from? Lancashire England When did you join SL originally? Joined April 2004 (9 years this April) Personally, I think some kind of ceremony is in order..Perhaps a virtual crowning by LLs CEO..who ever that is these days, I have no idea! What have you mainly spent your time doing in SL in the past? 2004 - 2006 Reverse engineering textures I found online 2008 - 2011 Battling with a three year pre meditaded hate campaign and RL stalking situation. (I won but it cost me a small fortune in legal fees!) 2009 - Present Date: I make KICK ASS textures. Like all day. **Bragging Rights** TRU Textures Ltd is going to be featured in the "3D Artist" magazine next edition How are you planning to spend your time in SL in 2013? Try to maintain some kind of income... hanging by my fingernails! :matte-motes-nerdy: *Waves at Porky... we MUST chat sometime young man! In SL terms, we're practically related!
  7. Yea...all of my building TEXTURE sets are set to "M" because they're called something with Gorean in the name or have the word "Gorean" in the description because I am suggesting how they might be suitable for Gorean builds and locations. It's OTT IMO but it is what it is and I don't think it effects sales as such.. well I don't know as I have nothing to compare it to
  8. Yep. L$ is never essential... it is by default a luxury, so define "need" Some people have zero dignity,
  9. IMVU.com which is Second Life's main competitor and has over 100,000 people logged on at any time, make their merchants go through a process to become a merchant. They have to PAY to become a VIP member (Premium) and STAY premium if they want to become a developer. Linden Labs are missing a huge amount of revenue by not following suit on this alone But more importantly perhaps, the by becoming a premium member you are by default disclosing your RL ID to Linden Labs. Then they have to read and agree to the TOS related to being a merchant and this includes information about Copyright etc Then, they have to have their content approved by other members of IMVU.com initially. They look for obvious things like Trademark violations and test the animations etc. Finally. There is no such thing as a "Freebie" section on the IMVU Marketplace. If you want something you have to pay for it..Fancy that! LOL As I say, IMVU has over 100K people logged on at any one time. So the lack of freebies aren't putting people off. I don't like IMVU as an experience but I do admire how organized and ethical the creators are at least trying to be about people selling content on their platform.
  10. I am not sure whether I think it's fair to write it in your store description information but I DO agree with *some parts* of the statement. Edit- (Not the in world store business... its a dying trend to actually need an inworld store these days) I think if anyone wants to become a merchant then LL should make it a requirement that the account is premium and therefore by default the persons ID is known by LL. This is how it works at IMVU.com i believe, you have to pay to become premium via PayPal which then also acts as a way to authenticate your RL ID and as such people are accountable for their actions. So long as people can trade behind alias names with no traceable link back to their RL ID there will always be a weak link in the wall against copybot and premeditated IP theft. Cue Troll.....
  11. Hello Nikolai I have had two negative reviews successfully removed as they were "Off Topic" It's a tricky complex issue by and large. For example, in the texture industry, a customers expectations can be warped by a misunderstanding of building techniques for example. Alpha Flicker/Alpha Sorting is not a texture fault but rather a "glitch" in the game engine SL uses (And indeed many game engines used) This is the most common complaint I get due to the lack of knowledge on the subject by the customer. It's unfortunate that most customers only feel compelled to leave a review if they're angry or disappointed by way of a Negative Review. Further more, they rarely contact the merchant but rather "vent" with emotion rather than facts and that's when the review falls into "Off Topic" As you have explained that you actually went back to check your previously bad review then found it had been removed and then tried to leave another negative review again, this suggests to me you were driven by anger and revenge (sorry!) and that might also suggest your initial review was written with negative emotion over factual observations. (I have not read your review so I can only speculate) Perhaps this would be justified if the item had other neg reviews and/or you contacted the merchant BEFORE you left a review. However, as this is content that is saved to your PC I am guessing there was a No Refund policy in place because this is not an item you can transfer back to the merchant such as a No Copy item. As I say, it's complex and without knowing what was written as well as seeing the actual product itself it's hard to give an honest opinion. Chalk it up to experience and don't buy from that merchant again
  12. I am looking for a business partner who will receive a generous percentage of profits from an existing company that has been established since 2005. The revenue we generate is from external Paypal sales from an existing website which I am looking to replace. This is where you come in. Your role will be to develop and then manage the e-commerce website. I have a template already designed on the existing website so your skills would be in the code side so evidence of previous experience would be required. This is not a one off payment offer but rather a life long on going contracted business partnership. Please respond directly (not to this post) to Elizabeth Gallagher @ trugraphicsolutions@yahoo.co.uk
  13. Thanks for all the replies guys And thanks to Nadine..seems my 8 year old ass is behind with the times!
  14. I have added that info in the thread title so people dont send me links to the online support web page! lol I have had the Textures R Us region for years, it's recently been converted to a homestead. I have had the same music stream playing for years but since it was converted it no longer plays. I can hear music on other regions or at least I could a week ago. I know how to get the stream, in fact it's this one http://205.164.62.20:7010 and it's in the correct place - Land , Media etc but when I go to play it, on Firestorm viewer the little music symbol changes back to "off" I am confused and frustrated, I have had another person who has management access to the region check it and they said the stream works outside of SL but they could not hear it on the region either. Is it a Second Life land issue or a viewer issue? Many thanks for any replies and advise :)
  15. "I blame much of it on 'animal spirits' doing another freek out period in today's teetering economic climate around the world and expect more to follow until the bottom finally falls out of the world economy" For sure. The media drives consumer confidence or consumer insecurity. As soon as Oct comes, people start to worry about Christmas (Thanks Giving for the US too) and cling on harder to that dollar. Even without seasonal finanical commitments, people are constantly "Saving for a rainy day" Waiting to lose their job or their partner to lose their job, worried about raising mortgage interest rates .. Tthe consumer of todays recession is set to "Beware Of impulse Purchasingg" by default. Its a social conditioning caused by media driven fear.
  16. As soon as LL purchased Xstreet I started putting my stuff on there because I knew if LL were taking a fincancial interest in it, then in world search and marketing were gonna be a dying trend. I do think it does also depend on what you sell. Avatar animations clearly need to be seen working so people need to bo in world to try a demo..I think this applies to most avatar content from skin to hair and often clothes. Textures (my market) are a nightmare to shop for in world due to the LAG this has always been the case and it was this reason I opened an external website, initially for browsing purposes only. Also textures depend on the target market to have or rent land or for my target market, targets market lol...to have or rent land. Building items for use in world depends on land ownership which has taken a huge nose dive over the last 3 years. Amount of people online the last time I looked was 32K - before this I recall 64K. The SLMP IS and will continue to affect in world sales because thats the new way of shopping by and large. There are of course always people who enjoy the whole in world shopping experience but for speed and ease of search the SLMP is the first and obvious choice for I would imagine 85% of the SL population.
  17. Oh? Edit. I have just checked. They have no taken any SLMP Subscription fee all month so they have just taken them all in one go which as I say has opened my eyes really. I had no idea I was paying 35K for SLMP listings that's like $130 (ish) They will lose out I think as perhaps more people may have their eyes opened and start cancelling old and unaffective subscription fees once they realise how much it adds up to at the end of a month. You tend not to "feel" it when they are paid once a day were as it stings when they take it all at once!
  18. I have just noticed 35 listing charges at 999L each have been deducted from my balance on the 28th Sept I did have about 20 listings but they all started on different dates and as such were all charged on different dates. 35K taken from my account for 35 999L Marketplace Transactions one after the other is not normal and so I have filed a ticket and cancelled the renewal for them all until this matter has been explained and or resolved. It's not a small amount of money by most people's standards and I feel insecure now until such time a refund and or and explaination has been offered EDIT Actually, I do have 35 listings I just didnt realise! In a way I am glad this has happened as it's opened my eyes to just how much I was paying for listings that I now feel serve no purpose so I have cancelled them except 3. It will be interesting to see how next months sales fair without the 35K I was paying every month,
  19. Sorry to hear your issues.....SL is full of certified nutcases cloaked behind alias user names and pixelated avatars... mute the person they can't do squat - just another ranting loon EDIT - Actually... "SL is full of certified nutcases cloaked behind alias user names and pixelated avatars" would be a good slogan on the official website
  20. ahh so you do have the option of leaving them in boxes? I have just watched the Torley video which demonstrates how to take the boxed up items from the black boxes, then empty each one into your inventory and then drag that folder into the Merchant Outbox etc...I was nearly weeping...lol....close to 4000 SLMP listings.
  21. If I am to understand this, I have to transfer 3700 boxed up texture packs into folders... we have about 30 customised versions of the black box containing all of these so we have to rez every single box drag the contents to our manager account (TRU Timeless) Outbox folder? We had to write a program to get them all set up into boxes in an automated manner, placed onto the SLMP with the keywords for each texture collection and now I guess we will have to write another program that will undo all of that and put them back into folders...(?) Great...can't wait. I personally have 400 texture collections all boxed up in my 3 black boxes which I will do manually....cant wait! This direct delivery is not for the benefit of merchants that I can see... it wouldn't be TOO bad if it was optional as in "boxed or folders" Nightmare
