Would you like to be more specific? This is what I see. I see more people willing to take precious time out of their day to help alot of new people that may be confused, need help, and really want to have fun and experience SL. There was not really a lack of help from the community before, and I don't feel we need ranks for any of us to initiate help, but if it ensures that no1 is left hanging for any vast amount of time, I'm all for it. Let's face it, SL is confusing, even for old timers. I see the overall community as very generous with their time, but even so, there are still times that people are left hanging. Right now, that is not really a problem. Whether it is insecurity problems, or looking for attention, or just wanting to make a difference, I don't really care, as long as the newbs and people with problems using SL get help.
  2. No offense to any1 here, but I feel the Lindens have better things to do then deal with a bunch of people with insecurity problems. We have real issues that need fixing, lots of them. I personally do not go around helping in the forums to get any kind of useless imaginary reward, but is this really a bigger issue than fixing real bugs or making a better marketplace, or fixing search? I think not. Not even in the ballpark. This is a BS issue.
  3. This worked for me, and it seems alot of other people. Just Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming and Delete the whole Secondlife folder.

  6. It's all very interesting, but the real question is, "Is it actually better to use the kinect, then the cameras you used before?". My tests kinda say no, but it is still early. Definitely more convenient, but if the quality is not better, convenience means nothing.
  7. I finally found the answer, at least for me. Just Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming and Delete the whole Secondlife folder.
  8. Just clearing the cache did not work for me. I had to delete the whole SL folder in AppData\Roaming. Just Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming and Delete the whole Secondlife folder.
  9. My issue was not really the same as yours but Suella's link fixed my logging in issue. Kudos to Suella. Now, I have to post it in all my other threads that i commented on. This was the fix for me tho. Just Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming and Delete the Secondlife folder.
  10. This exact same thing is happening to me. Right now, i have to use Kirsten's S(20) build 40. No official SL viewers will log me in except v1.23, which can be downloaded at the bottom of that page. 1 of my friends has written a jira for this issue here. --> https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-24990 Please vote, or watching, or comment on it. There are also quite a few more jiras all stating the same thing. Most are somewhat being ignored or LL has not connected the dots yet.
  11. Well, I've had skin and clothing texture problems for awhile now, and all I do is rightclick myself and choose edit shape. The avatar goes into that pose, then all the texture will appear correctly, and I close the sidebar. You say you tried everything but this was not in your comments so i thought i would post it.
  12. Ditto!!! I don't think many people understand how important animation is to any virtual world or game. I watch people in other games just jump up and down because they like seeing the animation. Plus, SL has by far more motion capture in it then all the games in the world put together. I would also venture to say that animation sales can rival that of fashion, even tho it just does not get as much hype, nor is there as many that can make animation, compared to clothing. Yet, do you ever here LL talk about animation. Heck, most of the time, they forget to even include it in categories. For the longest time, in 1 promotion, they were calling animation things gestures. Most gestures don't have anything to do with animation. LL was even going to call the Adult sims AO, or Adult Oriented. WTF! It is like they forget that animation exists, and you still see alot of lindens not wearing an AO.
  13. Qavimator is good to have, and I use Poser on occasion, but the program that I think is the easiest and fastest to make animations is SLat. It is a pure bvh editor and does not work like any other animation program I've ever used. Personally, even if i make animations for another game, I will do most of the editing in SLat and then convert the format or skeleton in Poser. I thought maybe i would have to use something else for motion capture but it almost looks like SLat was made to edit mocaps, lol. I use an older version than is currently on the animation wiki pages. If any1 want to use a version that I use, just drop me your email address and I will send it to you. Here is a sped up video of me creating a 2 animation greeting, incase you have never seen SLat.
  14. I just downloaded the animation and threw it into qavi. Seemed fine to me, so I just clicked optimized it, and saved it. When I uploaded it into SL, it worked perfectly with a priority 4 setting, and I put in a 1 second blend time in the beginning and end. Word of advice tho, the animation is 25 fps, and really does not need to be. It is a really long animation and the extra frames only make for a long download time for the user to view it. Generally, for an animation like this, I would go with something closer to 10 fps. Even on motion capture, I try to stay below or around 15 fps.

If you are really new, say less than 2 months old in SL, then there are things like Money Trees all over the grid to pick up some extra spending cash in SL. When I started, I had a whole folder of LandMarks to money trees and if I needed some cash, I just teleported from tree to tree. Now, I have my own Money Tree. Just do a search for Money trees in search and hopefully there will be a big list. It is also a good way to meet other newbs and experience some of your first SL experiences with some1 else in the same boat.
  16. Generally, you can not change the video card in a laptop. For the money you want to spend, you should be able to get a decent video card in a laptop. Try to get an Nvidia card tho, maybe a 210 or higher. The last time I look at the card they suggested, none were even on the market anymore, lol.
  17. I think filing a ticket, or what looks to now be called a support case is the only way to go. https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ 12-31-1969, too crazy:smileysurprised:
  18. Falcon Linden wrote: Hi folks! I know, it's been forever since I've come to office hours and some of you may think I'm dead. I'm not! I'm hard at work making your meshes work without causing problems for our physics engine (among other things). I can't give you the answer you want--a release date for mesh. But I can help a little by letting you know that there are concrete dev issues remaining. For example, you may notice that in some cases when you enter a mesh region, particularly one that's been restarted recently, you can't move about as you would expect. In fact, the collision geometry for many meshes is a giant box with dimensions equal to the mesh's scale! Craziness. Huseby Linden and I have recently solved this problem but the solution is far more complex than you'd think and it will be at least a couple weeks before we can deploy it to Aditi. Other remaining issues on my plate include physics cost computation and proper upload validation. It's great to hear that you aren't hitting many mesh upload bugs. Rest assured that we are continuing to actively develop mesh as a feature and that we are probably even more eager than you to see it deployed to the Main Grid. Cheers, Falcon Well, I appreciate the info and the gesture. Sorry, if we don't all follow the dev pages or even want to, but we do have our own projects to work on. How about, instead of a meeting, you just give us a report? And I don't think it is unreasonable at all to tell us if it will be done in 2 months. This gives us a chance to actually make good decisions, instead of making decisions completely in the dark. Even though your comment was refreshing to many of us, All we really know it that it won't be done in 2 weeks, maybe a month. Heck, just tell us when it won't be done. lol
  19. well you can also just rez a normal prim, make it transparent or part of the build and link all other prims to yours. This will make you the creator of the whole objects, when rezzed. If they just look at it in inventory it will not say any creator, I think. Oh and you'd be surprised how many people make most of their own stuff.

  21. Are you talking about faces? We did not always have them, but have now for awhile. You can select the faces in the edit window and then click on each face, you will see like a white target thing on the surface of the face you have chosen. This is great to play with, but from a pure data standpoint, some1 can add a ton of data just because they want a different texture on each face, making the cost for your pc to store it high. Most creators do not understand this at all, and if textures are constantly reloading for you, then chances are, you are wearing something that is taking up a ton of space in your cache. Also, now, we will have custom faces on mesh objects. Any creator who knows how to make mesh will be able to pick and chose, or even combine faces surfaces. So, lets say you are making a car, then you would make all the lights a different face, all the chrome parts a different face, and all the interior a different face, to allow you to change each set.
  22. The more topics on this, the better.:smileywink: The current system is (forgive me) moronic. I get 1 star reviews because of bad deliveries. Matter of fact, since this new website was implemented. I've gotten about 5 "great products" reviews of 4 or 5 stars, and now about 8, 1 star reviews because of bad deliveries. Comparably, on Xstreet, for the same amount of time, I would have gotten hundreds of ratings, with a couple 2-3 stars ones from customers and I really don't think many of my 1 star ratings are actually customers. What LL has designed is definitely the worst rating and review system i have ever seen. I don't know how it could be worse. Yeah, on Xstreet, any1 could throw a 1 star at you, even your competition, but who cares if you end up getting 100 ratings on the product. Now, we are lucky to get any reviews at all, and if we do, there is a very good chance that it will be bad because of a bad delivery. The customer has no way to contact us from the website, so we are screwed.
  23. The looping bug is well documented and a fix was created by a resident and submitted to the jira for processing. Now, it has been well over a year, and nothing has been done. It is a complete lack of management. The reason this bug is important to fix, is that it will keep changing. The last time that I was able to use the official viewer, I saw a jump in a loop that was never there before. I've been making animation for SL for over 4 years now, and I know when the is a kink in a loop. This bug gets worse over time, and will continue to do so until the fix is implemented. The reason, I fear, that they are not implementing the fix, is that they may think it will break more content. Actually, this bug does not break anything, it adds things to the animation that it does not need, which forces the animator to over compensate. The fix would just make some animations end a slight bit earlier than they should, but this is not different from the bug, just in reverse. From then on tho, we can make perfectly looping animations that will always be perfect. Right now, we are just waiting for the next change that will make loops worse. Blending has nothing at all to do with this bug. Just incase any1 did not realize, if your viewer is not running at over 30 fps, you are not seeing the animation perfectly and you can miss bad loops.
  24. Yeah, kudos to them, definitely can be alot of work. Although i see the value, I would fear moving anything because I'd be afraid of forgetting to change the LM. Plus, I think my store and sections are labeled and organized quite well to find what you are looking for fast, or you can walk around and browse. Some people really do need to do things like custom LMs for every product, as things are spread out so much. Heck, maybe I could do the LMs by category. That way, the customer would not be more than 10 meters from the product. That's an idea.
