  1. Greetings! The selling of content, no matter what the type, that is not designed for, nor intended to be used in, the Second Life Virtual World, is not permitted through the Second Life Marketplace. If you wish to sell content of that type, please use Ebay or another web site service that is designed and intended to sell content of that type. 2. Hello Mickey Vandeverre, All Support Cases are closed unless we are waiting for a reply from a user. Any Support Case can be re-opened through the Support Portal or by replying directly to the email that is sent when a comment is posted to your Support Case. All users are responsible for placing their products into the correct category on the Marketplace. If you are unsure of the correct category, it is recommended that you do a search to see if a specific category exists already on the Marketplace or contact Customer Support to ask what the correct category should be. If you are aware of other listings in a category that should not be there, use the Flag this Item link that is on every product listing to report the listing so that the issue can be addressed. Regards, Dakota Linden -- Linden Lab SL Marketplace Customer Support https://marketplace.secondlife.com/ http://www.secondlife.com So Dakota, you are confirming that Brooke is pulling back on her word from the last April's last open office meeting (do you want me to pull out and quote her statement in the transcripts) where she clearly stated that before the end of April she would blog more details on what the DD is and how it works. This was clearly understood by the Merchants that this was a public posting from Brooke to the community. Many of us suspected this would be the cast when we read the recent DD ALPHA invite where Brooke changed her story and said basically for those Merchant's brave enough to risk there SLM items and inventory to the new mystery DD service, LL will reveal these deep secrets. So ... why has Brooke pull back on her word to inform the general community on how LL plans to deploy DD? As for why I didnt participate in the LL NDA'ed DD Alpha testing, since you nor the rest of LL staff actually read any of the Merchant forums where this topic was already discussed why some of us refused to participate... I will not risk my SLM Items, store operations, and revenue on LL's risky DD Alpha / Beta testing Moreso, the arrogance of LL to invite and ask their customers to risk their operations testing LL code with ZERO details from LL before hand on what we would be getting ourselves into??? So its a "we cant tell you anything but since up and trust us ... once you sign up.. we will tell you how deep and dangerous the DD service will actually be" Try being honest and open with the community for once... Are you telling me that LL's DD code would make any fundamental changes to the DD code that myself would suggest if I even were to join the DD??? Make me laugh. NONE of the DD testers will have any say on changing the DD design... they are only there to find the bugs in the already designed and developed DD code. My input would have fallen on just as deaf ears as they have here in the public forums. So Dakota, you are saying ALL the discussions ... longgg detailed incredible discussions between the merchants on our concerns about DD and the Merchant's inventory as a source and the options we presented and talked about... they all were not listened to by any Lindens??? There you go fellow SLM Merchants.... you heard it live. I am not going to waste my time joining a secret LL NDA club for DD development where I know 100% full well no LL developers or Commerce staff would have totally dismissed. You know it too. But I give you credit Dakota... at least you are willing to openly post in the forums. Brooke has quickly taken the same approach and communications strategy that Pink Linden evolved to in the later half of her short career at LL. "Stop being transparent and only work secretly with the SL Merchants you like" Hello Toysolider, Again, you are speculating about things to which you have zero direct knowledge. Since you are so quick to judge Linden Lab in unfavorable light, I suppose it was too much for you to consider that there were unforseeable delays that occurred because of outside issues? Everything on the Marketplace web site was delayed because of the staffing changes that occurred last year. Brooke has been nothing but amazing in joining the team and getting up to speed, but she, and the rest of the team, are still dealing with issues that came up before she joined the team. I do really hope that in the future when you are extended the opportunity to help improve the system that you will actually join us, instead of chosing to be the voice of derision. Can we use items to link to off site websites, or do all links have to pertain to Second Life? Can we use notecards (or by whatever inworld means) to send links to files for download (of course provided the files are ours and legit)? Can we charge for such items?!? For instance, I'm a musician, and I made a music "cd" (cd's are just files right? or do we refer to them as audio files now?!?)... I want to sell my cd thru an inworld store, but what I'd really be doing is selling a link to the actual files. Is this acceptable?!? I also saw in some inworld shop they were selling avatars of Batman, Superman, and things like that. I thought that things like that weren't legal. Hope I'm not putting anyone on the spot, but I'm curious. 6. Phil Deakins wrote: I must admit that I'm not familiar with the marketplace categories, or any grey areas that there may be, but there was a short discussion here not long ago, in which category levels were discussed. I know from experience that many people *want* their listings to be as high up the category tree as possible. After all, if there's a high level category for "houses", it's suitable for every house that's for sale. But if there is a lower level category for, say, "bugalows", then, even though a bugalow is a house, and would fit in the "houses" higher level category, it actually belongs is the lower level "bugalows" category and the "houses" category is the wrong place for it. That's one type of thing that I was meaning. In such cases, I really wouldn't tell the item's owner where to list it if it were me on the other end because the item was intentionally placed in the wrong category. If there are grey areas, then the owner of an item that's in the wrong category *should* be given some specific information, AND the categories would need to be clearer. Could you give me an example of a grey area, please? This is the perfect example of users who do not read the Listing Guidelines that everyone agrees to comply with when they create a store and list content for sale on the Marketplace web site, and is the biggest single reason why products are unlisted for being in the wrong category. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/listing_guidelines "Category Guidelines We have developed a taxonomy for categorizing items. This taxonomy enables prospective buyers to easily browse listings and find the right items in a straightforward manner. However, it only works well if all the items in the SL Marketplace are applied to appropriate categories. Use the following guidelines to decide which categories to apply your items to: Select the most specific category that is appropriate for the item.
"Examples Item: Sailboat
Acceptable Category: Vehicles -> Water Vehicles -> Boats
Unacceptable Category: Vehicles -> Water Vehicles Item: Set of 14 Couples Animations
Acceptable Category: Animations -> Animation Bundles or Animations -> Couples Animations
Unacceptable Category: Animations If you are placing your "house" into the main Structures category, then the listing is in direct violation of the Listing Guidelines and the product _will_ be unlisted for being in the wrong category and it will be blocked if the issue is not corrected. All houses should be in the Residential Structures Category, or the Multi-Purpose Structures Category, if it is designed to be used as a house/club/business. No one likes to think or believe that there is a problem with their product, yet in 99.9999999% of the cases, their product is in violation of the Listing Guidelines. Every product that is unlisted displays a message for the seller on the Marketplace web site with the name of the product and the reason why it was unlisted. The seller can then review their listing and review the Listing Guidelines section for the issue to see exactly why their product was unlisted. If they are unable to determine why their product was unlisted, they should then contact Customer Support through the Support Portal to ask for specifics. Myself, and other members of Customer Support for the web site, will be happy to help explain why their products were unlisted. 7. Greetings! It is not possible to add the code to the Magic Box. Even if the code was added to the Magic Box, every resident who has a Magic Box would need to download the new version and change out all of their Magic Boxes in world. Given the Linden staff don't bother following their own listing guidelines what has other traders experience been with items getting delisted unfairly from the marketplace? What makes an item that is really "general" as per the guidelines get delisted unfairly on the grounds it should have been adult? All listings that have been flagged are reviewed by a Linden Lab employee with a Linden last name before the product is unlisted from the Marketplace. if you believe that your product was unlisted incorrectly or you do not agree with the reson why your product was unlisted or blocked, you may submit a Support Case through the Support Portal using the Marketplace - Marketplace Listing Issues options and a member of Customer Support will be able to assist you further. Please keep in mind that the Marketplace Listing Guidelines rule the web site. The section regarding items that must be flagged as Adult Content specifically says nudity, including genitals and female nipples must be set to the Adult Maturity Rating level. If any portion of the female nipple, including the aerola is visible, even behind "lace" type clothing, it must be set to the Adult Maturity Rating level. 10. Hello If your listings are showing as Unavailable on your Manage Inventory list or the sales of all of your products are failing then there is an issue with the Marketplace communicating with your Magic Box in world. I am including the steps here to fully reset your Magic Box. If this does not correct the issue, please ask to have the region where your Magic Box is locate restarted then reset the Magic Box again. This should fully restore all of the communications between the Marketplace web site and your Magic Box on the region. Make sure you are using the most recent version of the Magic Box, located here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Xstreet-SL-Magic-Box/36791 1. Go to your Magic Box Status Page that is linked under your Merchant Home Page on the Second Life Marketplace and remove all of the Magic Boxes you have listed there. 2. Go in-world and "Touch" each Magic Box and select Reset from the popup menu that appears. 3. Wait. Do not reset your Boxes again during this time or you will risk having your Box show up with incorrect data and your items will remain inactive). The Magic Box colors will change during the communication process. Once the Magic Box returns to the default color, the communication process is complete and the Magic Box should be re-linked to the web site. 4. After the Magic Box color changes back to the default, go to your Manage Inventory page on the Second Life Marketplace and click on the "Sync Marketplace with Magic Boxes" button located on the right side of the page. 11. Hi Josh, Blocking the use of the top level categories is on the backlog of issues that need to be addressed and fixed on the Marketplace. Obviously issues that are more important and have a higher priority, like the failed delivery problems with the Magic Boxes, will be addressed ahead of issues like category options. 12. Josh Susanto wrote: It's a functional car and it was listed as a ground vehicle. Had it not been textured with scanned raw pork ribs, I can't see any possible reason why it should have been flagged at all. Hello Josh, Your product listing was unlisted because you placed it into the main Ground Vehicles category instead of placing it into the correct Cars & Trucks sub-category. So your listing is in fact in the wrong category. If you read the Marketplace Fees & Listings Policy page you will see that it clearly states not to place product listings into a top level category when there is a sub-category that is appropriate for your listing. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/listing_guidelines "Do not post items in the "Root" categories such as Apparel, Home & Garden, etc. unless you absolutely cannot find an applicable sub-category that applies" Since the Ground Vehicles category has an appropriate sub-category called Cars & Trucks, your listing should be moved to that sub-category to bring it into compliance with the Listing Policies. If your listing gets blocked for being in a Top Level/Root category, then it will become necessary to submit a Support Case through the Support Portal so that your listing can be unblocked so that you can correct the Marketplace Listing Policies violation. 13. Hi Catwise! Honestly, it doesn't matter. Both categories are correct for those types of sculpted products. If you prefer to have your products in the original category, you are welcome to leave them there. If there is a sub-category under the new section that fits your product perfectly, you can place the listing there if you believe that it might have a better chance at being purchased. 14. Greetings!! Since the Marketplace is using the Magic Boxes from the old Xstreet SL web site for the in world product delivery, the Xstreet SL web site will remain up, even though it is no longer possible to sell products through that web site. For those who may not remember, or where not using, the Marketplace back when it was on the old Xstreet SL web site, here is some historical (and current) information. The Magic Box status page has 4 columns. Unassociated Inventory, Unassociated Item Listings, Registered Servers, and Active Inventory. * Unassociated Item Listing - This column was used to show product listings that were on the Xstreet SL web site marketplace but the listing was not linked to the item in the Magic Box. * Unassociated Inventory - This column is used to show products in the Magic Box that do not have an active Product Listing on the Xstreet SL web site. * Registered Servers - This column shows the Magic Boxes that you have rezzed in world and that are communicating with the web site. * Active Inventory - This column shows active listings. That is, product listing on the Xstreet SL web site that are linked to a product in the Magic Box. Since the marketplace on the Xstreet SL web site was shut down on 6 October 2010, any products added to a Magic Box after that date will always show up under the Unassociated Inventory column since is it no possible to create a listing on the old Xstreet SL web site anymore. Residents who have been Merchants on the Marketplace back when it was called SLExchange and then Xstreet SL will most likely see entries under the Active Listings category and may even see entries under the Unassociated Item Listings column as well. Since the Marketplace still uses the Magic Boxes, here is some information that even can use when troubleshooting issues. 1. If you add a product to the Magic Box it should appear under the Unassociated Inventory column. If it doesn't then either the product permissions are No Transfer for you, the seller, or the Magic Box is not communicating correctly with the web site. Check the product to ensure all parts of it, textures, prims, and scripts let you transfer them. If the permissions are good, then have the region restarted to restore the communication links. 2. Registered Servers - as stated above, these are the Magic Boxes you have in world. The region/numbers are links. You can click on the link and the SLurl web page will open and you can teleport directly to the location of the Magic Box. This helps if you lose one. Each merchant may have to up 50 Magic Boxes rezzed in world at any time. Usually the Magic Boxes are good for up to 500 items, but it can get really confusing having that many items in the box and the boxes are getting really old and they are starting to have problems when there are more than 100 products in them. The Magic Boxes can be renamed, so for those who have lots of products, you can group the products by renaming the Magic Boxes to help keep track of your items better. EX: Shoes, Clothing, Buildings, Scripts, etc. This way if you need to update a product or troubleshoot an issue, you can quickly figure out which Magic Box has the item, or is having the problem. You can fully reset a Magic Box by clicking on the Remove link on the Magic Box status page and then clicking on the box in world and choosing reset from the pop up. After it resets, go to your Manage Inventory page on the SLM web site and re-sync the Marketplace to your Magic Boxes. 15. Greetings!! Min is correct. The Sculpted Prims category was the original category from the old Xstreet SL web site marketplace. The new Sculpted Prims creators tools category was created with sub-categories to offer further breakdown of the products. However, there is no way to mass move the products in the old category to the new ones and disabling the category will effectively disable all of the products that are in that original category, which of course, we do not want to do. Regards, Dakota Linden -- Linden Lab SL Marketplace Customer Support https://marketplace.secondlife.com/ http://www.secondlife.com
  16. Hi Phil, The way Dmoz shows the numbers is very similar to the way the Marketplace shows them. Just in a slightly different way. When you view the main Home & Garden Top Level Category, you can see the number at the top for the total amount of products that are listed. The sidebar then shows the total number of items in each sub-category. The big difference is that on Dmoz you have extra clicks to actually see all of the listings and on the Marketplace, they are shown by default. Again, the numbers are reported correctly. You are just not used to seeing them that way because you are basing your views of how things "should" look based on someone elses design structure. If you believe that the way the numbers are shown on the Marketplace web site should be changed then you should submit a Jira Ticket and it will be reviewed by the Dev Team to see if they believe that the design system should be changed and if they agree, it will be set up to be implemented in a future update to the web site. 17. Phil Deakins wrote: Hi Dakota. Yes, I know that "Home & Garden" is a legitimate category. Being a top level cat doesn't mean that it isn't a category. The matching items numbers displayed in the main area (not the sidebar) are mostly wrong though - bad design. When a category is displayed in the main area, the "matching items" number should be the number of matching items in the category that's being displayed, and not the number in that category plus all the categories below it. The way that it's been designed, the only categories that display the right numbers are bottom level ones. Apart from bottom level cats, wrong information is provided because there aren't that number of items in the category being displayed. Hi Phil, Since no products are supposed to be placed into Top Level categories, then by your calculation, the only numbers that should be displayed for the Top Level category are for those products that are in violation of the Listing Guidelines? And keep in mind that when you browse the Home & Garden top level category you see all of the products that in each of the sub-categories. So by your calculation the Marketplace should only show report the number of products that are in violation of the Listing Guidelines, but at the same time show all of the 20K+ products that are there? Wouldn't you think that the Marketplace was run by a bunch of idiots if the Home & Garden category said it only had 75 products in it, but you can clearly see that there are more than 20K+? Or what happens when there are no products placed into the Top Level Home & Garden category so the number shows ZERO, as it would under the way you believe it should work and all products in that area are in compliance with the rules? Why would you want to go to the Home & Garden top level category and be told that there are zero product listings in that section, especially when you can see that there are in fact products there? If you really believe that the cartegories should only report actually products that are in that category, and not in the sub-categories, then all of the Top Level Categories would report that there are ZERO products in those areas, assuming that all merchants are actually following the rules in the Listing Guidelines. 18. Phil Deakins wrote: Yes, I realized that the "matching items" numbers in the main area (not in the sidebar) is a piece of bad design - wrong numbers for the category being displayed. Hi Phil! The "Home & Garden" is a legitimate category on the Marketplace, so the numbers that are displayed (depending upon your set Maturity Rating) show the number of all of the products that are under the Home & Garden category. Each Sub Category then has its number displayed. In my case I show the following on the Home & Garden page: 208922 matching items found. You may be able to see more items if you increase your chosen maturity level and search again. The number isn't wrong because all sub-category items will be displayed when anyone browses through the Top Level Home & Garden category. 19. souljah Lefevre wrote: The issue isnt individual products as you seem to be making out the issue is the flagging system being abused. Now that we have raised this as a legitimate major issue you have deigned to take a look and respond that you will be more vigilant with thousands of objects than you are in answering people with recurring issues. Some creators are having their objects flagged saying they arent the same as description when the object hasnt even been bought so this is about your flagging system not our individual objects please adress that side of the issue ie the random flagging issue. Hi Souljah, I think there is confusion with the option for the flagging system. If a product is flagged for "Not being as advertised" one of the options under that header is Incorrect Category. If a seller places an item into, as an example, the Apparel category (Top Level/Root), they they are stating that their product is everything that is covered in the Sub-Categories. If the product is a pair of shorts, clearly it isn't Women's Boots, yet by placing the product into the Top Level Apparel category and completely disregarding the sub-categories they are misrepresenting their items. So yes, that product would be considered "Not as Advertised". Same as if a seller places a pair of boots into the Creators Tools Sculpted Prims category. While their boots "may" be sculpted, unless their product is specifically designed for other creators to use to create their own boots, then the seller who places the product into that category is lying about their item, since clearly their item is NOT a sculpted product that others can use to create an item, and instead should be in one of the appropriate footwear categories. Again, that item would be "not as advertised" since clearly they are advertising the product as a creators tool when they place their product into that category. If you have products listed under the Unassociated Inventory column it means those products are in your Magic Box but do not have a product listing on the old Xstreet SL web site.
