  1. Graphic cards use a GPU the i7 is a CPU. Sort of like comparing apples to oranges but not quite. You need to compare graphics capabilities (oranges) to graphic capabilities (oranges). GPU: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU CPU http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU (edit, was spell check)
  2. Right click it, choose "open" from the list then click it. You might wish to search for a beginner tutorial. Click the search button at the bottom of your UI (users interface) that box that surrounds the image then just type in beginner tutorial, choose one, then telephoto there. In a few weeks or so go back there and do it again. Btw, SL is not a game. Enjoy your second life.
  3. New computers actually often have old drivers. Check for your graphics card/chip driver. Do you have automatic updates enabled for a Windows OS? Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us AMD: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx Does the PC/laptop meet the minimum requirements to run SL? http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/
  4. Try logging in at SLurl. http://slurl.com/
  5. When it says "currently not available" it means the SIM is "currently not available". LOL Wait, be patient it might be rebooting or some other server related problem. If it persists contact the SIM owner and ask about the problem. You might also TP to a SIM next to it and see if it is there. some SIMs go out of business, sometimes they tell their tenants and guest before they do, sometimes not.
  6. It's not Windows, it's your connection it is "intermittent". Try these. For wired connections for modems only: Disconnect all wires concerning your connection, wait 30 seconds then plug them back in again, including the modem and transformer. Wires should snugly fit into ports. These instructions do not apply to routers. For wireless connections and routers: Reset your system clock. See "help and support" in Windows for directions. It is best not to use a wireless connection with SL. Laptops are also not advised for SL. A 10/100/1000 adapter is best with a good sized memory cache (1GB or more). If these fail contact your ISP for assistance the problem might be in the line too your connection.
  7. In this order, try: Wait, sometimes the servers have problems, only wait a few hours at most. Retype your user name (both of them) and password in the boxes provided on the logon screen. Check the Second Life grid status for logon problems. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ Try logging on at http://slurl.com/ On login screen take this path. In top left hand corner of screen, click, me > preferences > in the general tab, click the box next to start location, choose "show start location on login screen" then close the viewer and relog on. Now you have something new on your login screen. Click the down arrow and choose "home", or "last location" or type "Violet" (Any region you can remember will do, if you remember the regions name spelling exactly) in the "type region name" selection. Try all three if you need to. Your firewall should be set to "outbound access only" for the Second Life program. Try another viewer
  8. Carefully review your animation remove them one at a time till you find the buggy one. This might be in an AO. Remove AO's as well. If this fails try another AV shape.
  9. Contact the creator of these items they may help you. Right click them then see item profile in the SL viewer 2. See creator in the window
  10. This happens when large groups of AVs are present, most experience it at clubs while listening to music. Unfortunately it appears to be a problem that has no solution. Connection speed does matter, as well as the hardware but it is associated with the software as well. In short you may need to, live with it.

    issues

Just a guess but ........... graphics card failure. Are you having problem online as well? Are odd visual things happening when you use your PC/Laptop?
  12. I did a quick search on this GPU processor and it appears to be chipset graphics. This means it is a single chip on the motherboard. Graphic cards are much more involved with added hardware, including faster and larger memory. It would be best to get a graphics card for SL in general with the ultra setting it might be essential for best performance. chipset http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipset Graphics card http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_card (edit) You will also need a very fast connection.
  13. Do you mean this blue screen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Screen_of_Death It usually means a major system problem involving the OS or hardware.
  14. Use a wired connection. A 10/100/1000 would be best. If you must use wireless get the fastest with the most reliable connection possible.
  15. Open task manger or its equivalent in your OS and see what is running. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Task_Manager Tell us what is running. SL is a demanding program at times it will run this much CPU resources depending on what you are doing. This is especial true if your using a single core processor.
  16. Press ctrl+alt+t all at the same time and see if you have hidden objects on that need removing. Also check the wear tab if it is available in your viewer. as a last resort you can check on any land, roads and side walks will not work. In the about land tab you will find a script button press it then the user tab this will show the scripts your running. Anything odd there? If so, remove it.
  17. Reduce your graphic settings from say mid to low in preferences, the next lower setting should do then try again.
  18. Do these machines meet the ,imimium hardware requirements to run SL? http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/ Check for a more current graphics driver at the OEM's (original equipment manufactures) web site: Make absolutely sure your getting the right one. Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us AMD: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx
  19. This can be done with special viewers.Your looking for an "export" feature. See this list. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Alternate_viewers#non-linden (I'm guess this is an saved snapshot to your inventory, only) In the future save all textures to your PC by default that way you can avoid this hassle. The "save as" function in the aceptance HUD after you take the snap.; it's there.
  20. Reset your modem/router these can often be the problem with host names. Try logging on at SLurl. http://slurl.com/
  21. When it says object is missing from the data base it has been lost from the server that provides it from SL. This may have nothing to do with your PC. You need to contact SL support about this, sometimes they can recover these lost files but do not delay. If everything is missing in inventory then check your connection. Inventories stored on your PC are refreshed periodically by SL the info. might not be getting through to your PC. Good luck, you may need it.
  22. Contact the SIM owner about this and request a SIM restart (hang in server, server glitch) or simple remove the door and install a new one. More then likely it is corrupted (remove and replace).
  23. Read and follow the directions, here: https://jira.secondlife.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa?
  24. I have double and triple checked the preferences for a setting to enable this function. I spent well over and hour yesterday (a search that works in debug would be nice.(tags, relevance)) in debug settings trying to enable a prim count in the builders HUD. Where is it?
