Why doesn't my new laptop run Second Life smoothly? Why so much lag?
Faubio Alter replied to Cody Greymyst's question in Technical
Reduce your graphic settings from say high to mid. Reduce or illuminate all unnecessary features for best performance, as a general rule or so I believe. The less it has to do the better it will do the essentials, simple as that. -
Sounds like a graphics card problem. Check for a new driver first then run your virus scans. If this fails, you'll need to have a scanning program check if your graphics is properly working. Windows Graphics Card Drivers can be found here: Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us AMD: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx About that diagnostic's program http://www.pc-doctor.com/ My guess is you need a new graphics card or chip (or >>>>mother board). Never know really but that's my first best guess.

It is not suggested to use a laptop with SL. They are not powerful enough, unless you have a very expensive gaming laptop ($3,000.00 US or more). Most laptops do not have graphic cards, another very useful piece of hardware when using SL. In general for most purposes laptops are "low end" machines.

Because someones connection to the net is wonky, that being you or the muscian or the club owner. If you have a slow connection get a faster one if possible.

In this order. Try the connection again after each step................. Make sure your Ethernet adapted driver is up to date. For wired connections for modems only: Disconnect all wires concerning your connection, wait 30 seconds then plug them back in again, including the modem and transformer. Wires should snugly fit into ports. These instructions do not apply to routers. For wireless connections and routers: Reset your system clock. see "help and support" in Windows for directions. With third party viewers open the statistics bar (view > statistics bar) and the network preferences (edit > preferences > network > maximum bandwidth slider) TP to a SIM while the SIM is rezzing set the bandwidth slide bar for the maximum kbps you can achieve in the statistics bar. This location should be near the maximum speed of your ISP service. This does not apply to the SL viewer 2 You can check your connection speed here: http://www.speedtest.net/ [i am not affiliated with this service in anyway other then I use it.] If your looses connectivity contact your ISP and complain. Expect a broken connection when connected to the Internet. SL should run continuously, SL is streaming. Note to advanced users: Use a hard wired 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter, if possible. A wired connection is more reliable then a wireless one, switch to a wired connection if possible. If possible use a wired not a wireless connection for SL. Use these suggestions at your own risk.

In this order, try: Wait, sometimes the servers have problems, only wait a few hours at most. Retype your user name (both of them) and password in the boxes provided on the logon screen. Check the Second Life grid status for logon problems. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ Try logging on at http://slurl.com/ On login screen take this path. In top left hand corner of screen, click, me > preferences > in the general tab, click the box next to start location, choose "show start location on login screen" then close the viewer and relog on. Now you have something new on your login screen. Click the down arrow and choose "home", or "last location" or type "Violet" (Any region you can remember will do, if you remember the regions name spelling exactly) in the "type region name" selection. Try all three if you need to. Your firewall should be set to "outbound access only" for the Second Life program. Try another viewer

HELP!!!!!!! I can't open boxes. I'm new and have no idea what i'm doing!
Faubio Alter replied to brandiedenfield's question in Technical
Try a different location. You do know that you need to drag and drop a box to the ground to open it, right? -
Compatibility with Windows 7 - Updated Drivers not helping?
Faubio Alter replied to Lucin Forager's question in Technical
Please be more specific. What exactly or as close as possible is happening? -
can you make a movie in sl ? or a recording ? or can you only take pictures
Faubio Alter replied to Sonny Tachor's question in Technical
Yes, you can. The viewer has camera capabilities but video requires third party software. -
Avartar does not Rez in ANY Version 2 client.

Clear your cache. Firestorm is pretty much a beta at this point, I would expect trouble with it. -
This looks like a connectivity problem. Check your connection. I'm not a mac user but Windows has a connectivity trouble shooter. Disconnect your modem for a few second (30) then plug it in again this will restart it clear some problems. If these fail contact your ISP about it.

Something appears to be wrong with the object or script. The simplest solution might be to get a new one.

Do you need a graphics card driver? You will need to know what your doing to install these. Make sure the one you choose matched the graphics you have. Windows Graphics Card Drivers can be found here: Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us AMD: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

Are others having this problem as well? Your brother might wish to ask for a SIM restart.

If you have the viewer installed and have left help island then you need to search for a good newbie (newbie's are the new to SL) tutorial so you can learn the basics. Click the search button then in the window at the top type in tutorial. There is a good one at Caledon Welcome Centre. Once you've done it do it again in a week or two so you do not overlook anything. The find some freebie store and learn to shop, again use search and the term freebie.

Wait three hours. Patience patience. :matte-motes-smile:

Did you try changing to different eyes some time some sets can have problems. If all your eyes are not visible all the time, wait awhile and it might improve. I've had this problem before and it did not last long (problem is unclear some minor glitch somewhere, most likely in the inventory server system.).

Sometimes the age verification gets buggy. Try redoing it. If this fails, ask the SIM owner where you live if he/she will restart the SIM (Could be a server problem, maybe).
