It is buggy, switch to a different viewer till its issues are more resolved. If this is not a solution for you then make out a bug report with the Firestorm people. Different name, same people, btw. http://www.phoenixviewer.com/

What exactly is it saying?

Very few people have had problems with Windows 7 running the SL viewer. I have been using the 64 bit version of windows 7 since it came out with no problems what-so-ever. (As an aside, windows 7 might be M$'s best OS to date. I have used four of their OS's with SL.). Something else is causing the problem. I would look here. http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/

Are there issues with logging into SeconfLife?
Faubio Alter replied to Newfie Shuffle's question in Technical
If it's not a grid status problem try these methods: Wait, sometimes the servers have problems, only wait a few hours at most. Retype your user name (both of them) and password in the boxes provided on the logon screen. Check the Second Life grid status for logon problems. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ Try logging on at http://slurl.com/ On login screen take this path. In top left hand corner of screen, click, me > preferences > in the general tab, click the box next to start location, choose "show start location on login screen" then close the viewer and relog on. Now you have something new on your login screen. Click the down arrow and choose "home", or "last location" or type "Violet" (Any region you can remember will do, if you remember the regions name spelling exactly) in the "type region name" selection. Try all three if you need to. For wired connections for modems only: Disconnect all wires concerning your connection, wait 30 seconds then plug them back in again, including the modem and transformer. Wires should snugly fit into ports. These instructions do not apply to routers. For wireless connections and routers: Reset your system clock. See "help and support" in Windows for directions. Your firewall should be set to "outbound access only" for the Second Life program. Try another viewer -
Does your card meet these minimum hardware requirements to run SL. http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/ (Do this next suggestion at your own risk.) Can you roll back the current graphics card driver? http://www.ehow.com/how_6774187_roll-back-graphic-drivers.html Do that last suggestion at your own risk. Do you have a disc for that graphics card(?) with the driver on it? Are you sure you have the latest driver available? Drivers are available here: Windows Graphics Card Drivers can be found here: Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us AMD: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

why is second life running slow on my netbook?
Faubio Alter replied to cutty3014's question in Technical
I agree reduce your graphics setting till it improves. if it does improve. It is best to run SL on a wired not wireless system, btw. -
The UI (user interface) and HUDS can be enabled or removed. Have you removed them? They are in the image "save" part of taking an image, in the save HUD, some boxes there.

It's pretty much like RL buying or renting with the exception of the economy, in SL there is a nano economy. Each linden is worth about four cents ($0.04) on the dollar. You decide what you want or need then start looking for it. You'll need a premium membership to buy land this will give you extra features and more control over the land and its use. Land more the 512 square meters has the extra cost of tier. Tier is rent to SL for server time and profit. Under 512 is free. The map shows available land for sale. There is also an auction available for available land. Just click rental boxes for weekly rates (most are weekly. Be careful the occasional daily rental.) these will tell you the weekly rent and the number of primps, primps being object you can place on the land. These add up fast so expect to be miserly with them unless price is limitless. Many rentals have other terms and conditions as well. You'll read this in a notecard from the rental box or need to speak with the landlord concerning them. Usually after deciding to rent you will need to join a group to rez items on the parcel. As in the real world the three rules of real estate are location, location, location. Is the place nice? Are people nice? If they are in most cases you will pay more.

How can I find number of prims on objects in INVENTORY
Faubio Alter replied to sagia's question in Technical
No can do, you have to rez it first -
Allow automatic updates to your computer. You might check "help and support" in the OS. Right click on it in device manager, choose update drive then choose the online option. Go to the manufactures web site and down load it manual if you know the make and model number of the chip/card. Reduce your graphic settings, from maybe high too mid or low. (edit, addition) Does this computer meet the SL minimum hardware requirements? http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/

I owned a piece of land where I had a photo gallery. I left the parcel months ago but after several requests the SIM owner has still not removed my description of the parcel from the land. This is creating search problems for me, sending people to an empty parcel instead of my new gallery location(s) in SL search. Hep mee. prez :) ..................................................................................................... (edit, addition) Hmmmm, thanks but none of these help much. My answer would have been contact support but I'm not a premium account holder. Frankly, threats aren't answers, I do not want to "nuke" the guy just get my text removed. I'll let this thread run a little longer and hope someone has a solution.

Is anyone else having issues with search?
Faubio Alter replied to Rhyannon Paragorn's question in Technical
You might wish to rework the listing. You often can not rename the group, store, SIM but redoing keywords is important. Keywords are sorts tags to assist the database in doing relevant searches. Some of the principles from this link apply SL, some do not. Relevant searches http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization -

Secondlife crashed causing corrupted files?
Faubio Alter replied to Krzysztof Thibedeau's question in Technical
Comments ..... DLL's can often be viruses. Run your scans. If you have removed DLL's from the OS you may be reinstalling your OS soon. Usually corruption happen if components have been installed a very long time or are used very often. -
In this order. Try the connection again after each step................. Check the grid status for the time involved http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ Make sure your Ethernet adapted driver is up to date. With third party viewers open the statistics bar (view > statistics bar) and the network preferences (edit > preferences > network > maximum bandwidth slider) TP to a SIM while the SIM is rezzing set the bandwidth slide bar for the maximum kbps you can achieve in the statistics bar. This location should be near the maximum speed of your ISP service. This does not apply to the SL viewer 2 You can check your connection speed here: http://www.speedtest.net/ [i am not affiliated with this service in anyway other then I use it.] If your looses connectivity contact your ISP and complain. Expect a broken connection when connected to the Internet. SL should run continuously, SL is streaming. Note to advanced users: Use a hard wired 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter, if possible. A wired connection is more reliable then a wireless one, switch to a wired connection if possible. Use a wired not a wireless connection for SL. Use these suggestions at your own risk.

Error Connecting to Second Life Software Servers
Faubio Alter replied to Spyed's question in Technical
The "try" function is an attempt to send an error report to SL about a system crash. Try logging on from .......... http://slurl.com/ You can also choose "last location" or "home" when the viewer log-in screen first appears or type in the "exact" name of a sim. Try Violet for instance. (edit from here down) Maybe this might help: On login screen take this path. In top left hand corner of screen, click, me > preferences > in the general tab, click the box next to start location, choose "show start location on login screen" then close the viewer and relog on. Now you have something new on your login screen. Viewer Installation. Install on SSD or HDD?
Faubio Alter replied to Clint Maggs's question in Technical
I have the viewer installed on an older slower hard drive and the texture cache installed on a newer quicker hard drive. It does help. If you tp often, this configuration works well and does improve performance. I do not have a SSD drive but did for a time use this. http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk This allows the cache to run from the RAM within a PC instead of the hard drive. It does have risks, by-the-way and should perhaps only be used by "advanced users". I was very pleases to see that the cache size was increased in the last viewer version. This should help. (See preferences). Now it will be a long time between cache refreshing I hope but it is still to early to tell (texture corruption????)..
