  1. I'm not a member of the Firestorm team, I just took a look as it seemed to be in the public interest. But, no doubt that they do!
  2. In my case, I noticed that TortoiseGit went nuts scanning not only the folder I have open, but also subdirectories and unrelated folders trying to hunt for a git repository. Applications which are hooked into explorer basically have free reign to do what they like, regardless of the file filter.
  3. Hi everyone. As a Firestorm user (and appreciator!) myself, and because this report was concerning, I decided to run some tests. Here's what I did: Spawned a new virtual machine and installed a fresh copy of Windows 11 Installed Sysinternals Process Monitor which is a tool which will tell you pretty much everything a process is doing behind the scenes. Installed the Mesa3D software rendering library in order to allow me to run firestorm within the VM (which has no GPU) Used ImDisk Toolkit to create several virtual removable drives, since the OP said that FS was accessing files on another drive I peppered a few .doc, docx and .pdf files on the drives, as well as in my user documents folder and a few other random places I then installed and ran Firestorm-Beta64 and used it for a while, teleported, talked in chat, rezzed some stuff, and watched the file accesses on disk. At no point did Firestorm attempt to access or enumerate anything outside of its jurisdiction, and at no point did it attempt to enumerate or access any of the additional drives I added. With one exception - the file picker, when you choose one of the upload options. This is basically a copy of Windows Explorer, and as soon as the file picker is opened, any applications which are hooked into explorer, and explorer itself, will start squirreling away accessing everything in view in order to - as @Jerrod Diavolo alluded to - generate thumbnails and get file metadata - and all of these accesses appeared to Process Monitor to be coming from Firestorm itself. This is perfectly normal and expected, and would cause the condition that the OP reported. My conclusion is that there's probably nothing to worry about here. But it's good to be vigilant, while Beq and the firestorm team are totally trustworthy, breaches do happen - thanks for bringing this up, Sandor!
  4. I may have misunderstood - in the group, you said "I'm not getting a delivery" - were you reporting a delivery issue with your own store? Jules asked you, and at the time you said you weren't. This isn't a general question about the system, it's about a delivery you're not receiving. Either way, I will not post again on this thread - we have our rules for a reason, you will be allowed back in to the group if you accept them.
  5. If that was what had been asked, then that is the reply that would have been given.
  6. We have extensive monitoring in place, naturally, to detect issues with our backend systems. But an item not delivering, while it *could* be an issue with the system, is much more likely to be a result of a merchant misconfiguration. Either way, we need the merchant to contact us in order for us to investigate the issue. We cannot efficiently respond to end buyers, who wouldn't have the access needed to check the config.
  7. Hi everyone. As you may be aware, CasperTech continues to operate pretty much as we always have, with the same team. Our team is not large enough to handle general queries from anyone. We can support our customers (our merchants), and that is our focus. 99% of the time, if a store isn't delivering, it's because the merchant has removed their dropbox or they only have one dropbox and their region is down, stuff like that. We simply do not have the resources to answer endless support requests from end buyers about why their items aren't being delivered. Of course, if you are a CasperTech merchant and you are having trouble with your stuff, we are 100% happy to help, always, and you'll find that you get support very quickly. To respond to the specific question - "Is there something with CasperVend now? I'm not getting a delivery" There is absolutely no way that we can answer this question. There could be any number of things wrong that only the merchant can know. Please, if you have an issue with a store, contact the merchant. They can come to us if they need help. TL;DR: We have these rules in place so that we can effectively focus our support efforts on those whom we are here to serve, that is, our merchants. It's a critical part of how we have been able to remain in business (prior to the LL acquisition) for many years longer than any other system. We clearly state these rules when you join our support channel.
  8. It would be nice to have, but not essential to make multithreaded rendering a reality. OpenGL supports context sharing, it's possible to fill vertex buffers and such on multiple threads. Draw calls must only be made from one thread at a time, but it's half of the way there. Not quite as nice as DirectX's deferred contexts, which supports simultaneous draw calls, and definitely not as flexible as vulkan/metal/DX12, but it's something. But yeah, your point stands still - such changes would be incredibly complex.
  9. Hm, I remember Firestorm in 2010 had the menu option Advanced -> Rendering -> Run Multiple Threads And I remember some chat about deferred rendering at the same time.. (in before "ok boomer") Edit: I see now this only referred to background threads. The menu option was a bit misleading i suppose. But .. yeah, multi-threaded deferred rendering is absolutely possible, maybe one day
  10. For what it's worth, Firestorm is currently using 41% of my GPU and 11% of my CPU, at my home region (AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti), getting about 450fps. Of course, this will tank depending on what region you're on. The main issue with Second Life is it's all custom content. Lots and lots of custom (often very unoptimised) content is really hard to render efficiently. Games that you play will have huge amounts of precalculated baking, geometry shaders to do the heavily lifting, etc. However, if you run your viewer at 4k resolution you're certainly going to make more use of your GPU.
  11. When filing a ticket, the link will automatically log you in, no password is required. I'll re-open your ticket and I'll take a look at that issue.
  12. CasperHelp Resident is always online (except for brief periods during rolling restarts), it's a support bot - its sole job is to give you a link to file a ticket. The ticket system is how we manage support requests - I'm afraid that if you don't want to file a ticket, there's not a lot we can do - we need details on the event in order to assist you.
  13. Hi Anna! For security reasons, the redelivery link which is generated for you will expire after a short while. Once expired, you'll be asked to sign in - but instead you can just use the redelivery terminal again to get a new link if you wish. Regarding the "Internal error" - we'd like to look into that! Can you please contact CasperHelp Resident in-world with the details on that (which product did you try to redeliver? Does it happen again when you re-try)? Many thanks! ~Casper
  14. That didn't reach us. I'll change our wiki now to reflect that. The intention was never for linden homes to be used solely for dropboxes (why wouldn't you just get a regular mainland parcel, in that case?), but for merchants to be able to use the space they already occupy. Dropboxes only use very minimal region resources, so they certainly don't cause any performance issues. But yeah, I completely get the problem with deserted plots being used for commercial means.
  15. I can totally understand your concern. At the moment, we're still genuinely operating exactly as we always were. No secret sauce I expect that in the future, we'll be able to offer enhanced services as a result of tighter integration with Second Life - that makes complete sense, right? But I wholeheartedly disagree that it precludes resident-led alternatives. There's nothing stopping anyone from making a 3rd party marketplace - I even ran one for a while. I shut it down due to lack of time to maintain it, not due to any interference from LL, inability to compete or lack of interest. If we do manage to make a system which is so amazingly perfect for everyone that nobody could possibly need anything else, then surely that's a win for merchants - but I think that a "one solution fits all" scenario is unlikely. The community is so diverse, and creators are always innovating - that's one of the things I love about Second Life. There do exist some great alternatives to CasperVend, and I can't imagine why they wouldn't be able to continue. Put it this way - if the tables were turned, I wouldn't be concerned. (This comes from me, and me alone. I am not speaking for, or on behalf of anyone but myself.)
  16. Hi Coffee! Well, first of all, I should point out that LL do charge money for some of their services and these additional services still cost money to run. Honestly, I think that CasperVend and CasperLet remain incredibly competitively priced. It was made pretty clear during the announcement that nothing would change for the foreseeable future. LL have secured CasperTech for Second Life, there's now no risk of us disappearing like other operators have - stability is important for merchants!
  17. Hi Vha2the We recently changed the redelivery site so that it displays purchases with other stores separately. Just click the "From other stores" tab at the top and you'll be able to see all of your purchases.
  18. We could potentially make a search kiosk. How would that fit your needs?
  19. Parcel audio isn't commonly used as an attack vector for this. While it's possible to get a user's IP address in this manner, the parcel audio URL can't be customised for each individual avatar, it gets sent to everyone on the parcel, so it's harder to accurately link avatars to IP addresses.
  20. A HUD calling home can't reveal your IP address. Scripts operate from the region's IP address. The only way a scripted device can get your IP address is via targeted media, i.e they tell your viewer to access media at a certain personalised URL, which binds your IP address to your avatar key. This is how RedZone operated before it was yeeted from the grid. Use the Media Filter built into your viewer. Don't accept media requests that you don't recognise.
  21. If you attempt to teleport to a region and it refuses you due to an estate-level ban, it will refuse any subsequent attempts from your IP address until the region is restarted. I don't think this is documented, just something which I've observed during my time in SL.
  22. I'm still operating CasperTech. I know what our income is. CasperTech is one of the businesses listed there.
  23. Hey, I thought I'd chime in here. As someone who operates bots which conduct grid surveys to assist with the function of our products and services, my opinion is that - regardless of the LL terms of service - such a system should conduct itself in a respectful manner. From what I can see, the bots are not collecting any information which is not publicly available, however, I can completely understand that residents may not want their avatar profile information published on the web - which appears to be the only transgression. In my opinion, publishing avatar profile text and data really isn't necessary for the core functionality of this site, and provides a net reduction in privacy. I think that ideally, this single feature should be removed. FWIW I can confirm that the L$ values listed under "Marketplace" / "Top Merchants" have no basis in reality (Opinions expressed in this reply are solely mine and are not endorsed by or related to Linden in any way).
  24. Creators are, of course, free to set their products to any permissions they wish. However, I find this particular argument a little hard to swallow. I can buy a pair of designer trainers in real life and deface them in any way I choose - no reasonable person would assume that they came like that, would they? There are many legitimate reasons to make stuff no-mod, but I think this one is a bit of a reach.
