As Rolig says, your appearance is a combination of your shape and your skin. The shape defines major body and facial contours. You'll find that the appearance sliders will let you make some pretty extreme changes in your lips, eyes, nose, and cheeks. The skin provides shading, fine muscle definition and makeup. You'll find that some skins will look good with your shape; some will appear to change it (for better or worse), and some just look awful. Some skin sellers also sell shapes that are designed to work with a specific makeup. If you are not comfortable with tweaking the appearance sliders, you may want to go this route. Nowadays, there's another ingredient in the mix...makeup tattoos. You can get makeup that goes over your existing skin. Some of these affect only your lips, or eyes, or cheeks, while others are complete facial makeovers. You can even get a tattoo that appears to "part your lips" slightly to show a bit of teeth.

You are going to have to have either the password or the email address for the account, as well as the answer to your "secret question". If you have none of that, you may as well forget it and make another alt, in my opinion. You can contact Billing and see if they will help you, but with NO way to prove you are the owner of the account, I don't think you will get very far.

Mysterious horse pops up in my inventory
Lindal Kidd replied to Elizabette's question in Abuse and Griefing
In general, no one can plant something on your land unless you allow them to rez objects there (i.e., your land is set to allow anyone to rez, or it's set to allow group members to rez and the person is in that group.) However, there IS an exploit that allows a person to rez objects on land where they are supposed to not be able to. I have not encountered it often, but it does happen occasionally. Also, it is not possible for someone to plant something in your inventory without you first giving the OK. But it's possible you did that by mistake or by being careless. You can't be the "only one in your group." Groups must have at least two members, or they cease to exist. However, the second member could be your own alt...perhaps that's what you meant? -
Somebody is playing a trick on you with a "follower" object. You could try right clicking it and selecting Block. Or right click it, select Inspect, find the object owner and Abuse Report them. Or do both. In any event, the object can't follow you unless you're in that sim...so the problem can also be avoided by staying out of Kuula.

10 people at a venue IS a pretty good crowd, for SL. More than 20, and the region starts to get laggy. Find a full sim, and watch your frame rate drop to single digits. To find crowds, you can either look through the "What's Hot" listings on your log in screen, or once you are logged in, look for clumps of green dots on the map.

It looks like LL's latest answer to this is, "file a support ticket".

No.

Ban from second life without justification...
Lindal Kidd replied to Mistery Spot's question in Account
Something is not right here. You are a Second Life merchant, but you have not logged in since February? No conscientous merchant would do that. Or, do you mean that during February, you were not logged in for a few weeks, and then when you tried to log in, you discovered you were banned? If that's so, why are you only now taking action? If you believe your account was compromised, you can tell LL that, and they will investigate...but it is rather late to be making this claim. -
I'd write a blog post saying farewell to SL. I'd send a notecard to all the friends I want to stay in touch with, with my email address and the location of my regions in OSGrid. I'd abandon my land and close out my Premium membership. I'd get my money out. I'd put on my sexiest gown and go dancing with my partners. I'd go to Caledon Oxbridge and White Tiger Help Island and rez a big sign, "YOU'RE TOO LATE. THIS GAME IS OVER."

people tell you who you are !
Lindal Kidd replied to SIMGentleman's topic in General Discussion Forum
Amethyst says "you can't judge a book by its cover" in SL...I have to disagree. Your avatar and your profile are created by YOU. You should take time with them both, to make sure they say what you want them to say about you. If people are seeing them, and making "judgments" that you don't like, or that don't reflect the person you feel you are, that's feedback. Of course you must consider the source...jerks will be jerks. But once you filter that out, then you may have some valuable information about things you may want to change about your avatar and profile. -
Will this computer be able to run SL effectively ?
Lindal Kidd replied to RobT Hoyes's question in Technical
I would not trust any computer with integrated graphics to run SL well. -
My profile is blank..Again for the 5th time this year help me please
Lindal Kidd replied to Aniri Tinkel's question in Technical
There's been some sort of mixup with Profiles, just today. But it seems to be affecting the MySecondLife.com profiles, not in world. Still, your problem might be related to this. -
How to make jewellery "necklaces" in 3ds max for second life?
Lindal Kidd replied to Imarny's question in Creation
There is no standard necklace shape. Use the avatar mesh in a background layer and construct your necklace using it as a guide. -
I used to be able to include the local chat box in with my personal IMs
Lindal Kidd replied to JaneLezza's question in Viewers
Any tab can be undocked from the main Conversations (or Communcation) window, and placed in its own window. To undock a tab, click the small icon that looks like a stack of pages, in the upper right corner of the window, just to the left of the Close (X) button. To redock an undocked window, click the same button again. If you don't see the Local Chat window anywhere at all, go to View/Local Chat, or hit CTRL+H I like to keep the Local Chat undocked, in its own window. It's less likely to obscure my IMs...but that is a personal choice. -
Decent spec computer still cant run at decent speed!
Lindal Kidd replied to RickyT94's question in Technical
I have a fast computer too...a bit older than yours, but a better graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 550Ti). I only get around 15 fps most times, with graphics on mid to high, no shadows. And that's on a good day. This seems to be pretty common. I do know some people who have similar specs to mine, who are getting framerates I'd kill for...30 or better. But despite having talked to some of them, and trying things they've suggested, I can't seem to reach those heights. So...don't feel too bad. You seem to be getting about the performance to be expected of your setup. -
Way 7 -- You got a link via chat, IM, or email that appeared to go to an SL website. You entered your user name and password. You've been phished, and the phisher now has your login information. If you think you've been hacked, file a support ticket at once. Also change your password (if you still can). Your account will be disabled while LL investigates.

Everyone who's answered is right...but as Karen says, there ARE legitimate third party $L exchange sites. They will state that they use the "Linden Lab Exchange Risk API". They will, of course, ask for your SL avatar user name, but NOT your password...though you will no doubt be asked to create an account and a password to use their service. NEVER buy $L from anyone on eBay! Every single way to purchase $L? Why would you need to know that? All you really need is ONE way that will work for you. In general, LL will accept major credit cards or a verified PayPal account. Most debit and prepaid cards are NOT accepted. I prefer to use PayPal, backed up by a RL bank account that I use only for on line transactions, and that does not have a great deal of money in it. This has two advantages: It limits my possible loss in the event of an identity compromise, and it allows me to transfer profits OUT of SL and back into Real Life. Third party exchanges will often accept payment methods that LL does not, but the exchange rates are not as good as you will get with the Lindex.

why did i not get the lindens my freind senr me
Lindal Kidd replied to MissCajun's question in Technical
Maybe your friend didn't really send the money. This might be deliberate teasing on their part, or it might be an SL glitch. Have them check their transaction log, and you check yours. This is found by going to your Dashboard page on this website, and clicking Account, then Transaction History, on the left side of the page. If your friend finds the payment to you, but you do not find a matching transaction, then both of you should file a support ticket, and include the transaction ID in your report. If neither of you has a record of the transaction, then the payment was not made, and you can ask your friend to try again. NOTE: Make sure you are not in Busy mode when you do this! -
Second Life has continued to evolve, and today it requires a lot more graphics power than it did four years ago! Linden Lab is doing things to improve the performance of SL, but I would not count on those things to enable older machines to run Second Life well, or possibly even at all.

To rez an object, stand on your land (or other location where you have permission to rez objects). Find the object in your inventory. Drag it from your inventory onto the ground. To move it into position, right click it and select Edit. Use the colored arrows to drag it to where you want it. To rotate it, hold the CTRL key and use the colored rings to rotate the object.

Most things can be taken off or detached, but there are a few things that you MUST wear at all times, because they are an essential part of defining your avatar at the most basic level. These items can't be removed, only replaced by another item of the same kind. They are: Shape Skin System hair (also often called a baldy, bald base, hair base, or eyebrow shaper) Eyes To change any of these items, simply find another item of the same type and wear it.

I recommend you don't cancel your account. If you are Premium, then downgrade to Basic. But if you cancel completely, you will lose your inventory...and no, you cannot transfer your stuff to a new account.

It's there. While logged into Second Life, go to Preferences. Depending on the viewer, the cache control may be in the Network tab, or in the Privacy tab, or somewhere else...but SOMEwhere in Preferences, there is a setting that shows the cache location, and there is a Clear Cache button next to it. The other way to clear cache is to do it manually. See this page for details. http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear It's written for the Firestorm viewer, but is generally applicable to any SL viewer.
