  1. That's why Cinn mentioned it in her post. >>> "Since only the scripts in objects you are wearing effect sim memory, they are the ones to be concerned about. "
  2. Take a look at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Troubleshooting_teleporting . If the tips there don't solve your problem, please come back and start a new question. Do NOT add your question to one that someone else has already started, especially not one that has been closed since last Spring.
  3. There's only one kind of Magic Box. And it's about to become obsolete, as soon as LL releases the new Direct Delivery system. To see how the system works now, read here >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Selling-in-the-Marketplace/ta-p/700193
  4. If you want to delete unnecessary scripts.... (1) Determine whether you have permission to modify the object the script is in. If you don't, that's the end. (2) Determine whether you have permission to copy the object the script is in. If you don't, be very careful about deleting the scripts, because you won't have a backup to use when you change your mind. If you do, make a backup now. (3) Determine whether you will ever need the scripted function again (How many times do you plan to resize your hair?) (4) THEN, Open your Edit tool (CTRL + 3), select the object, go to the Contents page, and delete the script.

  6. At this point, the wise thing to do is find a new sandbox. SL is a big place and there are plenty of other great places to explore. I strongly advise against confronting the greifer for three reasons: (1) He has been is SL longer than you have, and knows how to handle himself better, so it's not a fair fight, (2) He loves the attention, so you're just feeding his ego, and (3) a greifer would LOVE to be able to file an Abuse Report against you and get YOU banned from SL. Just walk away.
  7. As I explained in answer to your last question ( http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/How-can-we-change-the-tag-groups-or-activate-another-group-at/qaq-p/1248473 ), you will need to submit a support ticket. It would be faster if you or the other group owner became a Premium member, however. Then you could contact Live Chat and ask them to help.
  8. They never said the Premium gifts would be monthly. The word was "occasional," as in "when they want to." :smileywink:
  9. A viola? A viola is a stringed instrument like a violin, so I don't know what you mean. If both of you are unable to enter SL, the only thing you can do is contact Live Chat (if you are a Premium member) or submit a support ticket (if you are a Basic member). It would be faster if at least one of you decided to pay for a one-month Premium membership.
  10. For reasons that many of us still argue about, LL decided that we don't need usernames with last names any more. If you'd like to have a last name, make yourself a Display Name that has one. Here's how >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Display-names/ta-p/700173
  11. Phoenix will be mesh-enabled, but is not yet. As far as I know, the only V1 viewer to have mesh capability at the moment is the Cool viewer, which is not self-certified as compliant with LL's TPV policy (although Henry Beauchamp has made it a very good viewer). As I pointed out, though, there are a growing number of other features besides mesh that require the V2 codebase, so the question of when to change from a V1 viewer is complicated. In any case, the decision is purely a personal one, as it should be. We do not all expect the same things in SL, so no single viewer will be right for everyone.
  12. Mesh has been enabled in all sims since September.
  13. Don't worry about it at all. Mesh is slowly becoming popular, but we will never have a time in SL when everything is a mesh object. As you point out, we have many years' accumulation of pre-mesh creations in SL. It would be impractical, to say nothing of expensive, to replace them all. It would also be dumb. In many situations, mesh is a more efficient use of resources and offers greater flexibility for making complex shapes. Many, but not all. Some objects are rather inefficient if they are made as mesh, especially if they are large objects like buildings. The answer to your question is, "You'll need a mesh-enabled viewer if you ever want to be able to see mesh objects." Without a viewer built on the V2 codebase, any mesh object looks like a blob. For the near future, that will just be an annoyance for you. You will be missing some things that others can see, but there won't be many of them for a while. Before very long, though, that annoyance will grow on you, and you'll find that SL looks less and less interesting. More important than mesh itself, though, you'll find that all of the bugs you have been dealing with in you current viewer will never go away. They are being fixed in newer viewers, but you won't get the benefit. You also won't benefit from other features as they are added to the new viewers but won't work in older ones. So .... nobody's going to force you to quit using your old viewer, but you'll want to.
  14. If you are a Premium member, contact Live Chat. They will solve the problem for you. If you are a Basic member, however, you have to get a friend or an alt to log in, talk to the group owner, and convince him/her to eject you from the group. Be sure that the group owner understands that this tag will be a problem for all other group members too, so it should be changed immediately. If you are the group's owner, this is more difficult. You may have to convince everyone else to leave the group. Once you are the only remaining member, LL will delete the group automatically within 48 hours.
  15. Thank you, Cinn. I was looking for a site to verify that option this morning, but couldn't find it. Bing is not a very good translator, but it's better than nothing.
  16. This is a very difficult one to diagnose, but the problems you are describing all sound like you have an incomplete connection to SL. If you have been using a wireless connection, that could be contributing to the problem, so I'd recommend switching to a direct cable connection if that is at all possible. Wireless gets a lot of potential interference from cell phones, garage door openers, and other electronic devices, and is not as inherently stable as a direct connection. You can also try rebooting your router to let it clear its RAM and get a fresh IP address. To do that, just unplug it from the power and walk away for a few minutes. Then plug it back in. If you still have trouble, try bypassing the router completely by plugging your computer's Internt cabl dirtly into the modem temporarily. If the problem disappears, at least you have isolated it to the router. After that, you'll have to figure out whether it's a setup problem for the router, or whether the router itself needs to be replaced.
  17. If you are curious about the very good advice that Angel offered (or even if you are not curious), take a look at https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6608 . The "invalid character" problem is a bug in the V2 code that makes you unable to log in to SL if you were wearing an "illegal" tag when you logged out. If you are a Premium member, ask Live Chat to fix it for you. If not, follow Angel's advice and get a friend or an alt to get you ejected from the group. This can be a frustrating and slow process, so be patient.
  18. It doesn't make much difference what you do. The built-in translator in all viewers is based on the Google Translate API, which will become unavailable after December 1, except to users who pay a hefty fee to Google. This will disable those systems and almost all of the HUD translators in SL as well (Universal, Simbolic, X Lang ...). That message you are seeing is not generated by LL. It is a message from th Google API, telling you that it is shutting down.
  19. You'll want to talk with someone who is knowledgeable about RLV, like Innula Zenovka. Meanwhile, though, take a look at >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Toy_Wylie/RLV_Documentation/Outfit
  20. Is JavaScript updated and enabled on your computer? And is the debug setting BrowserJavascriptEnabled set to its default value (TRUE)?
  21. Voice and streaming media are handled by different servers than the ones that control ambient sounds and everything else, so it's understandable that they might behave differently for you. If you're on a PC, open Control Panel >> Sounds & Audio Devices Properties >> Audio and be sure that the slider and switches there are all turned ON and that you have volume. You might actually have a separate panel in your Control Panel that handles all sound controls (I do. Mine is called IDT Audio Control Panel.) If so, you'll be able to see how your PC is handling each of the different sound systems separately.

That's not a standard error message from an SL viewer. It sounds more like the message that you might see in a web browser. If so, you are not entering SL the right way. You need to download and install a viewer >>> https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/?lang=en-US. For other very useful information as you get started in SL, see >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Second-Life-Quickstart/ta-p/1087919
  23. If you are receiving an error when starting the Second Life viewer that says your graphics card is unsupported or your graphics drivers are out of date and you know that your card meets the system requirements, then this procedure will most often correct the problem. Usually this message appears when you have upgraded from a previous version of Windows, or when a Windows Update conflicts with an installed graphics driver. It can also mean that Windows Update has installed a graphics driver for you that does not have full support for SecondLife or that your graphics driver is not Windows certified. Download the latest graphics driver from the chipset manufacturer (ATI, Nvidia, or Intel) not the maker of your graphics card or computer. Save the file where you can easily find it, but do not install it yet. Run Windows Update and make sure your system is fully patched. (Optional) You may download Driver Sweeper or a similar utility to remove all traces of your old driver. Reboot your computer and enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 at the Windows logo screen. Uninstall your old video driver. You can either use Driver Sweeper or Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager (steps will vary: this applies to Windows XP) and then opening "Display Adapters" and right-click and choose "Uninstall." Reboot your computer. If Windows displays a message that it found new hardware, do not let it automatically install drivers. Instead, run the installation program that you downloaded in step 1. Reboot your computer You should now have a clean version of your video driver.
  24. Your viewer has a built-in browser, so you can always surf the net from within SL using it. To activate it, use Preferences >> Network & Cache >> Built-in Browser. If you are using a viewer that supports Media On A Prim (all of the V2 viewers and Firestorm do), then you can also create your own browser on the fly. Just rez a prim. While your Build Edit window is open (1) click the little button that says Select Face, (2) Click on any face of your rezzed cube, (3) open the "Texture" tab in your Build Edit window, and (4) Click on the + sign that is waaaay at the bottom of the window, where it says Media. That makes that selected face into a web browser. Enter the URL you want to view in the obvious field of the new window that opens and click OK. So long as you are in a place where you can rez objects, this method will always give you a fast, free way to create a web browser in SL.
  25. Go to Preferences → Sound & Media and check that you have the Sounds and UI sliders up high enough and that there is no mute symbol (red no entry sign) on the speaker icon next to those.
