  1. Not my instructions, and not anyone else's here either. As far as I can see, you have never asked here before. To abandon a Linden Home...... Pick up all of your stuff. Identify everything that belongs to you and then right-click on it and Take it back to your inventory. (Do not select several things at once and take them all in a single step. If you do that, they will all appear in your inventory as a single coalesced object, and you will have to rezz the entire thing again to get individual objects out of it.) Stand in your home and open your World >> About Land menu. Click the Abandon Land button. You will no longer own the land.
  2. Take a look at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/ma_linux_notes for suggestions about configuring Firestorm for Linux. You might also want to join the in-world Firestorm/Phoenix support group and ask your questions in chat. The support staff and volunteer helpers are quick and knowledgeable.
  3. If your account has been blocked, you should have received an e-mail from Linden Lab explaining why you were suspended or banned. It will also include instructions for filing an appeal if you think that the suspension was unjustified. Check your spam filter if you can't find the e-mail. Resetting the password won't make any difference if your account has been suspended. You won't be able to get in world with any password.
  4. Oh, well it will only work once unless you have copy perms on the object you're giving. If it's no-copy, then it's gone once you give it away.
  5. When you set a price for an object thatyou want to sell, you do that on the General page in your Build/Edit tool (CTRL + 3). You have three options at that point. You can click one of three buttons to sell (a) the object itself, (b) a copy of the object, or © the CONTENTS of the object. If your object is a box and you don;t want to sell the box, click the CONTENTS button. No script needed. If you're using a script with a money event, you can set it to accept only a specific amount of money in payment -- not giving options and not alllowing the user to type in an amount of his own choice. In general that is FAR betterthan using a script like this one, which has the facility to make change. Whenever you write a script that asks its owner to grant permisiion to debit hi own account for refunds, ther's a possibility that the script might be hijacked by thieves and used against the owner. Personally, I wouldn't use this script.
  6. Yes. I suspect that reselling in Marketplace is actively discouraged, if not outlawed. There used to be a "used items" section in the old SLExchange when I was a newbie, but it has been years since it vanished. Reselling in world, however, is still legal as far as I can tell.
  7. Assuming that you have each downloaded and installed a SL viewer , all you need to do is either log in at the same place or send each other an instant message when you are both in world. It's probably a good idea to learn some basic skills >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Second-Life-Quickstart/ta-p/1087919

  9. Have a little care for the person who created those items and is probably still selling them. You may be accused of copybotting the items and cheating the creator out of sales. There have been some robust discussions about that topic in the forums over the years ( See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Resell-items-you-ve-bought/m-p/813307#M4705 , for example) When I see resale items, it's usually at yard sales when groups are trying to raise cash for tier. That seems more benign than personal sales, I suppose.

Look in Preferences (CTRL + P) >> Graphics for all of them.
  11. First you need to open the box it came in and unpack it >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Opening-boxes/ta-p/700185 Then you need to find the parts of your outfit in inventory and wear them >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Editing-your-appearance/ta-p/700709
  12. I have no idea. According to the Linden Realms FAQ page: "If you ... were not able to resolve your issue, please create a support case on the Second Life customer support site. If the issue is particular to a specific inworld location or object, please provide the name of the object, along with the coordinates and Linden Realms instance number."
  13. That's very odd. I think the only way you're going to get this one sorted out is to call the billing office and ask for their help. Linden Lab's billing team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Faster than I ought to be sometimes. I often need to go back and add important stuff as afterthoughts.

    LAND EDIT RIGHTS

Create a group with you and your wife as members, and set the land to that group. Then use World >> About Land >> Options to set the relevant permissions for group members. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Group-owned-land/ta-p/700079 Of course, I assume that your wife is also on your Friends list, so you can click the icon that gives her permission to edit your objects no matter where they are. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Friends-and-partnering/ta-p/700067#Section_.4
  16. You're going to have to be much more specific about what "something" says when it pops up. "It failed" isn't helpful at all. Error messages are some of the best clues for finding out exactly what went wrong. While you're adding that information, tell us about your computer, its graphics card, its operating system, its Internet connection, and anything else you can share. Also, when does this thing pop up? While you are logging in? When you try to teleport? Some other time? To add information, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  17. You can't tell, except by asking. One account is like another, and the TOS guarantees us privacy with our RL information. In fact, if someone discovered the person's RL identity somehow and divulged that information to you, s/he could be suspended or banned from SL. That's precisely what happened to the creator of RedZone last year. You don't have to know a person's RL identity to limit his or her access to your land. Why don't you just do that and get it over with? If you have documented evidence that the person has violated the TOS, you can file an Abuse Report as well. BTW, you may want to remove your e-mail address from your question unless you really like getting spam e-mail from strangers. This is a public forum. :smileywink:
  18. It's been ages since I used X-Y Text, so I don't recall many details. It ought to work right out of the box, though. I suppose it's possible that the servers in OpenSim handle it differently than the servers in SL. That would be easy enough to check by simply rezzing your message board in SL and seeing if it works here. If the problem really is somehow related to OpenSim, you'll have to ask someone in a forum over there for guidance. You might also try using a different script entirely. X-Y Text has been largely superceded by https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/XyyyyzText and https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/XyzzyText , both of which are in the LSL wiki's library. See if either of them behaves any better.
  19. He can't, at least not strictly. A Marketplace store is in the name of the account holder and the items that it sells are in his/her inventory (and Magic Box). There's no way for him to transfer his shop to you, any more than he can transfer his SL account to you, but he can give you all of his transferable items so you can put them in your Magic Box in your own shop. He should be sure that he gives you full perm copies so that you have complete control over setting the perms for resale.
  20. You can't add an owner. You are THE owner. You can allow other people to have access, however. Right-click your parcel of land and choose About Land. Click the ACCESS tab. Select the Group checkbox to restrict access so only group members may enter. (Go to the General tab and click Set to select or change this group.) Alternatively, click Add under the Allowed Residents field. The CHOOSE RESIDENT window appears. Using the three tabs in the CHOOSE RESIDENT window, you may Search for specific Residents, add Friends (from your list) or add nearby Residents (using the Near Me tab). For each Resident you wish to add, highlight the Resident's name and click Select. If you also want to allow specific people to have bulding (rezzing) rights on your land, you'll need to form a group first and then set your parcel to the group (not deeding it, which you cannot do with a Linden Home). Then use the Options tab in World >> About Land to restrict Building and Object Entry rights to the group.
  21. Don't panic yet. It can sometimes take anywhere from a few minutes to a day or more for your items to be delivered, especially if the merchant's Magic Box is temporarily out of service or the sim it's on is offline. Not that it helps now, but to remember for the future: (1) Don't overuse the shopping cart. It is easily confused if you put more than a couple of things in it. It's wiser to use "Buy Now" than to use the shopping cart, in general. (2) Don't buy things from Marketplace (especially LOTS of things) unless you are in world to receive them at the time. We each have an "in box" that holds IMs, notecards, group notices, group invitations, and anything that is delivered to us if we aren't in world at the time. That "in box" can only hold 25 things, total. If anything else comes in, it isn't saved. It is gone ... poof .... forever. If you have a mess of things delivered from Marketplace and half your friends send you notecards, that in box will be capped and you will never know what happened. So, what do you do now? ....... To get a record of the individual items in your order, open Marketplace and click the My Marketplace menu at the top of the page. Select My Account >> Order History from the pulldown menu. If you do not receive items within about 24 hours, you should cut and paste the information about a missing item from that Order History and send it in a IM or notecard to the merchant, along with a polite message requesting redelivery. Most merchants are very kind and willing to redeliver. This happens all the time and they are aware of it. Do be patient, though. Not everyone logs in to SL every day or checks their e-mail. If you still haven't heard in another day or two, follow it up with a second polite note and finally, if you STILL haven't heard, file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ , selecting Marketplace from the pulldown menu.
  22. That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked file. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud or a funky egg shape. What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilitites here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today. You may find that the bake fail problem comes back repeatedly, even after you fix it with one of the suggestions on that wiki page. That seems likely, since you seem to have trouble when your system has to handle something as simple as updating your cached inventory when you add a new item. You have a chronically weak Internet connection. There are many steps to take for repairing it. Perhaps the simplest ones -- ones that work best for most people -- are: (1) Don't Use WIRELESS. Wireless connections are inherently less stable than direct cable connections and are more vulnerable to interference. Then, (2) Reboot your router. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to let it clear its RAM. The plug it back in and let it get a fresh hold on an IP address. Take a look at Nalates's blog for more advanced suggestion if those don't work for you >>> http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/
  23. So long as your graphics program can handle layers and transparency, you should be able to do the texturing to make hair. The big three are Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, and GIMP. Getting the software is not your big challenge. That only takes money (and not even that, if you use GIMP). The big challenge is talent and practice. If you are just beginning, take a look at Natalia Zelmanov's tutorials in her blog >>> http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2006/11/build.html .. They are a bit dated by now, but they are well-illustrated and very easy for a newcomer to understand. Another excellent resource -- again, somewhat dated but a goldmine of information -- is the set of sticky threads in the old Texturing Tips forum that preceded the somewhat tame forum we have now >>> http://forums-archive.secondlife.com/109/1.html . Pay particular attention to the thread on Transparency and Alpha Channels: The Definitive Guide and the one on Texture Size, Pixel Counts, Video Memory, and File Formats . Finally, look for in-world classes at places like NCI, Builder's Brewery, or Caledon Oxbridge University. Those places and others have classes several times a week, all free.
  24. Are you having a problem with https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6608 ? If so, you have identified the big challenge with trying to recover. If you are a Premium member, contact Live Chat and explain the problem. They can remove you from the group and get you back in world. If you're not a Premium member, you might want to consider becoming one, just for a short time. It may be worth the fee. Otherwise, you're best hope is to find a friend (or an alt) who can go in world, talk to the owner of the group, and have him/her remove you.
