  2. That's a really good question. I don't know, but I suspect that the alpha clothing layers really aren't well matched to the shoes, even though they were sold with them. It's just a guess, but I think the merchant either put the wrong ones in the box or made them poorly.
  3. You can certainly file an Abuse Report. The best time to have done it, of course, would have been while you were actually being griefed. That way you could have taken photos, saved a chat log, and included all of that direct evidence in your report. The less evidence LL has to work with, the less likely it is that they can do anything about the problem. I know that's easier said than done, though. In the heat of the moment it's hardto remember to start snapping photos. So do your best. If there's a next time, though, keep your cool. You cannot be physically harmed in SL, no matter how scary the incident, so you have plenty of time to gather evidence and then TP away or log out.
  4. Just because an item is a freebie doesn't mean that its creator has abandoned his/her intellectual property rights. If you are selling someone else's work as if it were yours, you are cheating them out of recognition for the creation. One of the perplexing questions about creations, however, is how much you need to modify someone else's work before it becomes yours. The only way that can be decided is in court. If the creator of a freebie house thinks that you haven't modified it enough, he can file a complaint with Linden Lab under DCMA, a federal law. If you or the creator decide to press the issue, you have to do it in a RL court. You can read more about LL's intellectual property policy here >>> https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Intellectual_Property and about its DCMA policy here >>> http://secondlife.com/corporate/dmca.php . Personally, I can't see much fun in modifying someone else's creation instead of making my own anyway, and I'd rather avoid having to worry about whether I had stepped over the wrong line. But that's me.
  6. There are rumors that a TPV team is working on an iPad viewer, but for now all that's available are text-only viewers for mobiles. >>> https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  7. Many things that scripters have wanted to do with stargates have been difficult or impossible until now. Very soon, however, LL will be releasing some new LSL functions that will make it much easier. Take a look >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/Advanced-Experience-Tools-Preview/ba-p/1420633
  8. It can sometimes take anywhere from a few minutes to a day or more for your items to be delivered, especially if the merchant's Magic Box is temporarily out of service or the sim it's on is offline. Not that it helps now, but to remember for the future: (1) Don't overuse the shopping cart. It is easily confused if you put more than a couple of things in it. (2) Don't buy things from Marketplace (especially LOTS of things) unless you are in world to receive them at the time. We each have an "in box" that holds IMs, notecards, group notices, group invitations, and anything that is delivered to us if we aren't in world at the time. That "in box" can only hold 25 things, total. If anything else comes in, it isn't saved. It is gone ... poof .... forever. If you have a mess of things delivered from Marketplace and half your friends send you notecards, that in box will be capped and you will never know what happened. So, what do you do now? ....... To get a record of the individual items in your order, open Marketplace and click the My Marketplace menu at the top of the page. Select My Account >> Order History from the pulldown menu. If you do not receive items within about 24 hours, you should cut and paste the information about a missing item from that Order History and send it in a IM or notecard to the merchant, along with a polite message requesting redelivery. Most merchants are very kind and willing to redeliver. This happens all the time and they are aware of it. Do be patient, though. Not everyone logs in to SL every day or checks their e-mail. If you still haven't heard in another day or two, follow it up with a second polite note and finally, if you STILL haven't heard, file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ , selecting Marketplace from the pulldown menu.
  9. Take a look at the suggestions listed by the agile support staff at Firestorm/Phoenix >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_install_crash . There are so many possibilities that it's hard to know exactly what fits your own situation best, but you might find the right answer there. If not, try Nalates's suggestions here >>> http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/
  10. Yes, you should probably contact the creator. Windows are generally linked to buildings, unlike doors, which are sometimes left unlinked. In your case, the creator may have left the windows unlinked deliberately for some reason (perhaps because he gave you a choice of several window options and expected you to install the ones you like best?), or it may have simply been a mistake. Unless there was some note about it in the package when you bought the building, though, the easiest way to find out is to ask.
  11. It depends on how much trouble you want to go to. If you want your av to be at a specific spot, the best solution I can think of is to do what photographers in SL often do. Put a prim at the spot and include a short script that is essentially a pose stand. Load it with the stand animations that you are likely to want, and then stand. I have a full perm multipose stand in the LSL Scripting Library that ought to do the trick for you >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Library/Multipose-Stand/td-p/722759 Another possibility, again involving a script, is to create a moveable pose stand that you control with your arrow keys -- essentially a non-physical vehicle. Again, I have a script in the LSL Scripting Library that you could adapt to the task with little trouble >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Library/Walking-through-walls/td-p/1390043 . You can make the movement adjustments as small as you like by changing the increments in each of the statements in the control event. Currently, each tap of the arrow keys moves you 0.05m, but you could make it 0.01m (1 cm).
  12. I suggest starting small. It's great to have a project in mind -- something you can work toward -- but it's a good idea to get some basics under your belt first. I suggest working with a few of the tutorials at https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Tutorial . There's a nice array of them, some on line and some in world. You might also consider taking a class at someplace like Builders Brewery. Then get hold of a handful of freebie full perm scripts (there are thousands in SL) and start taking them apart to see how they tick. Modify them beyond recognition until they become yours. Keep you eye on that long-term goal, but remember that the real challenge in scripting is logic, not syntax. Developing your skills at logic takes practice with a wide variety of problems, so it doesn't happen overnight. BTW, off-world hosting of a script is not necessarily any more or less stable than in-world, and it requires a much trickier approach to scripting (and usually more than one scripting language). Almost all HUDs in SL are handled entirely in world.
  13. That sounds like a "sign" from your computer's operating system, not from Second Life. It's telling you that .... well, your connection is lost. Check your modem and router to be sure that they are both sending and receiving signals from the Internet. Are other programs working (your web browser and e-mail)? Check with your ISP to see if they are having trouble. If that's not what's happening, try adding some information to your question that might help us give a better answer. The exact error message might help, for example. Just click the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  14. You can't do that with a folder. When you have multiple pieces to sell (or you want to add a LM, a notecard of some kind, or a photo), just package everything in an attractive box, be sure it has the proper permissions, and drop the box in your Magic Box. Your customer will buy the box, rez it, and open it to get all the stuff inside. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Selling-objects/ta-p/700143#How_to_open_and_sell_boxes for more information.
  15. If you bought them in world, then the number that is in the upper right corner of your screen is probably out of sync with the REAL balance, which is in your Account >> Transaction History on your dashboard at http://secondlife.com. Check there before you panic. You can usually get the inworld number to update by simply clicking on it (the number, not the "But" button --- not to buy anything but just to make it wake up.
  16. You can't, at least not exactly. The Marketplace store (not XStreetSL, which hasn't existed for over a year) is tied directly to your account. It can't be shared. However, you can share any L$ that you receive from sales. The revenue distributions feature allows payments to be automatically distributed among multiple Residents. For example, you might share profits with a co-creator of the item; forward a percentage to the owner of the item's brand, if you are a sales affiliate; or send the proceeds to an alt account you use for holding and selling L$. Distributions are based on percentages, not fixed dollar amounts. You control revenue distributions by clicking Add Distribution on the Edit item listing page. You can of course make an informal agreement with your partner completely outside of Marketplace as well. The same is true of the things you sell. Your partner can create objects and give them to you to add to your Magic Box, assuming that the permissions don't get messed up along the way.
  17. Nope. You may use the following payment methods with Second Life: Visa American Express MasterCard Delta Online JCB Discover (U.S. Residents only) Visa Electron (non-U.S. Residents only) PayPal
  18. We can't do a thing for you because we are all SL resident just like you. There are no Lindens here. As you have learned, inventory does not stay around forever in a cancelled account. The longer you wait before re-activating a closed account, the greater the probablity that your inventory and L$ will be gone forever. You also know that it's only possible to transfer L$ and transferable inventory items between accounts. You won't be able to move non-transferable things from your old account to a new one even if the inventory is intact after you re-activate the old account. To re-activate an account, file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ >> Account Issue >> Reactivate an Old Account . If you have problems with it, you may be able to get some help from LL's billing office. Toll-Free (US/Canada) 800.294.1067 Long-Distance 703.286.6277
  19. You can always get to the Lindex to buy L$ from your dashboard at http://secondlife.com . If your mobile device will support a web browser, you can get there.
  20. It's a bit tricky. The answer is generally no, it's not a good idea. The TOS (Sect 8.2) says, for example that you agree that you will not "Post, display or transmit Content that is harmful, threatening or harassing, defamatory, libelous, false, inaccurate, misleading, or invades another person's privacy." The unwritten clause is "even if the other guy is a real jerk and deserves it." The Community Standards also say "Sharing personal information about your fellow Residents without their consent -- including gender, religion, age, marital status, race, sexual preference, alternate account names, and real-world location beyond what is provided by them in their Resident profile -- is not allowed. Remotely monitoring conversations in Second Life, posting conversation logs, or sharing conversation logs without the participants' consent are all prohibited." Again, even if the other guy is a real jerk and deserves it. Notice that it doesn't say that you are forbidden to share another person's public SL information (the stuff that's in their Resident profile, like their user name or Display Name). You just can't say things about them that are "harmful, threatening or harassing, defamatory, libelous, false, inaccurate, misleading, or invades another person's privacy", and you can't share transcripts of chat or IMs without their permission. There's a lot of weasel room in that language, and the ultimate judge is Linden Lab. They make the rules and they can decide when someone crosses the line. IMO, the wisest advice is that if you have to ask whether it's OK to spread stories about someone, the answer is probably no. At least be careful about how you say it. BTW, you didn't ask about what you can say here in the Forums. Our comunity guidelines here say "If you have a personal disagreement, do not post about it on the Second Life community pages. Residents who have personal differences have other channels of communication available to them — private messaging in the forums, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life. .... name-calling and airing of grievances are not appropriate in our discussion areas." Again, there's room in how to interpret that language. LL has given their moderators the responsibility for judging what's "too much". They can pull a post or thread that they think breaks the rule, and can even ban you from the forums if they decide it's warranted.
  21. Linden Lab does not accept most (any?) debit cards. You'll have to use a credit card. You may use the following payment methods with Second Life: Visa American Express MasterCard Delta Online JCB Discover (U.S. Residents only) Visa Electron (non-U.S. Residents only) PayPal
  22. @Anaiya -- I can appreciate your perspective. I find the "busy" option awkward and annoying so I rarely use it myself, but I do value my quiet work time and will protect it against unwanted intrusion. Aside from occasionally being annoyed, though, I see little need to disable a very useful function -- one that I rely on fairly heavily. I am not generally interested in finding out when someone is on line, but it's very important to me to know when they leave. I manage a fairly large team of volunteers who come in world to be available as mentors (librarians, actually, but that's basically their function). It's important for potential users of our service to know when someone is available, so each volunteer logs in by clicking a HUD when s/he's available. My system shows potential users that a librarian is on duty somewhere in SL, and it keeps track of how long the librarian was available. It does that second job by logging the librarian OFF when s/he either clicks the HUD to log out, or when s/he logs out of SL. We have several years of statistical data -- potentially useful for RL granting agencies and our RL sponsoring/partnering institutions -- to show how much time our staff puts in weekly, so having reliable login information is important to us. It's also important for potential users to know when a a librarian is really available, and hasn't just left SL without turning off the HUD. Removing the DATA_ONLINE functionality would break our system completely. As others in this thread have commented, there are an endless number of other practical, legitimate uses for DATA_ONLINE, many of which would become difficult or impossible to serve another way. We can have philosophical differences of opinion about how much privacy we each feel comfortable with, but the practical matter is that a great many merchants and service groups in SL depend on the functionality of DATA_ONLINE. It makes little sense to me to let the relatively small inconvenience that we all feel when someone knows we are in world outweigh the benefits of being able to see who else is around.
  23. Nobody here can help unless you tell us what's wrong. "Can not log in" is not a diagnosis. You'll need to tell us what happens when you try. How far through the login process do you get? What error messages do you see? Have you ever been able to log in before? What kind of computer do you have? What graphics card does it have? What kind of Internet connection? What have you already tried (A different viewer maybe? A different computer? A different login site? Check your firewall? .....) If you have useful information to share, add it to your question by clicking on the Options link in its upper right corner and selecting EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  24. Why do you care? Why live like a turtle inside a shell, in fear of unnamed bad guys? Your RL identity is unknown unless you choose to divulge it, so why do you care if anyone knows that your virtual identity is awake? I find the culture of paranoia totally puzzling.
