  1. Yes, it would be great to be able to attach things out of a HUD, but that's not the way SL (or LSL) works. You have to rez them, then attach them, and (when you're done) detach them. That means that you get an extra copy in your OWN inventory every time, because there's no way to detach the object back into the HUD. A couple of the new tools that LL has developed for use in Linden Realms will be able to solve part of that problem, so that copies don't pile up in your inventory, but you'll still have to rez and then attach.
  2. No. You can configure some joysticks for use as control devices, but you'll have to do a lot of experimentation >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Flycam . Basically, SL is not a game so it's not set up for it.
  3. The only "almost foolproof " way to keep a skateboard on a rail, a toboggan in a track, or a kid on a waterslide is to raise the sides. Make an invisible tunnel to keep from falling off. Balancing is virtually impossible (or is it "virtual balancing is impossible"?).

  7. Why does that keep you from editing the prims? The only thing that matters is the permissions set on them. If you check the Edit Linked box, then you should be able to edit any individual prim in a linkset, if you have mod perms, regardless of what those fields say. If you do not have mod perms, then no, you can't unlink or edit the object or its individual prims.
  8. CTRL + P when you are either in world or on your login screen.
  9. That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked image. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud. If you are seeing it as a solid oval instead of a cloud, it's because you have also turned off particles (Turn them back on with CTRL+Shift+Alt+=). What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilitites here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today. You may find that the bake fail problem comes back repeatedly, even after you fix it with one of the suggestions on that wiki page. If so, you have a chronically weak Internet connection. There are many steps to take for repairing it. Perhaps the simplest ones -- ones that work best for most people -- are: (1) Don't Use WIRELESS. Wireless connections are inherently less stable than direct cable connections and are more vulnerable to interference. Then, (2) Reboot your router. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to let it clear its RAM. The plug it back in and let it get a fresh hold on an IP address.
  10. 4.0.1 is not Phoenix. It is Firestorm. Anyway, you will usually get that message if SL's servers really are having a problem with your files. You might have better luck if you simply move to a different sim and try again. However, I suspect that there's actually something wrong with the files themselves. That's the problem on those rare occasions when I get that error. You can only upload images in TGA, PNG, JPG, or BMP format. Any others will hang up and refuse to upload. The software you are using to process images on your computer may also have introduced some funky information too. Finally, you might try rebooting your router, on the off chance that it is somehow misbehaving and needs a swift kick.

  13. Marketplace was off-line for maintenance this morning. I suspect that odd behavior is either the cause or the result of that maintenance. If it's still going on, I suggest that you file a support ticket and possibly a JIRA report immediately.
  14. You can't. That's not an option. However, you can use the Revenue Distributions option at the bottom of the EDIT page for any item in your store to designate how to divide the proceeds from a sale among two or more people. So, while you can't pay an official group, you can make a de facto group and do the same thing.
  15. If you are running the current SL viewer on the same computer you were using two years ago, it may simply be too old and underpowered to handle it. You didn't tell us anything about the machine, though, so there's no way we can tell whether that's the problem. You also didn't give us much else to go on. "It crashes" is not much of a diagnosis. Exactly when does it crash? Does it really crash at all or does it disconnect (any error messages?)? Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add important information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  16. Be patient. It can take up to 24 hours for delivery under normal conditions, and things have not been normal in Marketplace for a week, since the new Direct Delivery system was installed. Not only that, but Marketplace has been off line for some time this morning for needed upgrades, so NOBODY has been able to get into their store. [Posted 11:27 pm PDT, 27 March 2012] On Wednesday, March 28th the Second Life Marketplace will be undergoing maintenance at 9:00 am PDT. During this time the marketplace will be unavailable. Maintenance is anticipated to last approximately one hour. AND, you can hardly expect a merchant to respond to your note in less than two hours anyway. Merchants are like all other SL residents. We don't spend our lives on line (well, some of us don't). Merchants have RL jobs and famlies that are more likely to take top priority. If you haven't heard a response in a couple of days, then send a second polite note. Follow that in another few days with a support ticket to LL if you still have not heard from the merchant.
  17. Ooops. I suggest a two-pronged approach. First, copy the transaction information on your purchases from your history on Marketplace. Paste it into a polite IM or notecard to the merchant, explain the situation and ask for a redelivery. I suspect that the merchant will be glad to oblige. We are ll getting used to the new Direct Delvery system and are expecting some odd behavior. Second, file a new JIRA report on this behavior. (Go to jira.secondlife.com, log in, and click the + Create Issue link in the extreme upper right corner of the screen.) Make the appropriate choices from the drop-down menu and fill out your report, including any pertinent information. A cut & paste of your system info from Help >> About in your viewer is a good start, but anything that might help the developers track down the bug is a good idea. Perhaps a screen shot of your shopping cart?

I enter all my details, and above the loading bar it says : requesting region capabilities, then just crashes and cuts out, no error message, no reason why, and i cant understand it Thanks. That helps. You may be having trouble with a firewall. That's not too uncommon. Take a look at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 for some general guidance about how to configure yours. Sometimes an anti-virus program can have the same effect too, soo look at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/antivirus_whitelisting . If that doesn't solve your problem, it would still probably help if we knew something about your computer.
  19. There's no way that we can tell why your computer is crashing. You didn't tell us anything about your computer, its graphics card, its operating system, or its Internet connection. You didn't tell us which SL viewer you are using. "About halfway" isn't much help. Exactly where does it get before you crash? Are you getting error messages? What are they? Have you ever been able to enter SL? Tell us something so we know where to start. Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  20. Your router should work well right out of the box, with no special settings. You may want to check firewall settings, however. For that, see http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 You should be aware, though, that wireless is problematic foir many SL residents. It is generally prone to interference from many RF sources (cell phones, garage door openers, smart appliancxes, even fluorescent light fixtures) and can lose bandwidth. Also, wireless is not well-designed for the continuous data transmission that SL expects. Unlike on-line games, SL swaps data files between its servers and your client viewer continuously. Interruptions in service can generate lag and lead to disconnections. We generally recommend a direct cable connection for best service.

You mean a sandbox. Try opening your in -world Search and typing the word "sandbox" into it. You'll get a huge long list (I just found 1262 of them). Don't go to one near the top of the list. It will be crowded and may have some people who are just there to annoy you. Sample several until you find one that's nice and quiet. Check to be sure of any rules (What sorts of things you are NOT allowed to rez, like weapons....) and have fun. Another possibility is to join a group that owns land where you can build, or find a friend with a home who will let you work there.
  22. The weak link in an Internet connection is often the router. You said you are on wireless, which is very often a problem in itself, so I'd strongly recommend NOT doing that. Beyond that, though, try temporarily plugging an Internet cable directly into your modem, bypassing the router completely. If that improves your performance, there's a good possibility that the router is at fault. You may be able to fix things by simply rebooting it (unplug it from the power for a few minutes), or you may end up needing to replace it. BTW, you said you tested your connection pingtest and "everything was fine." What were the numbers? In particular, how much packet loss? What was the ping time? How many times did you repeat the test? You might want to read http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ to get a good feel for why these are important questions.
  23. There's no way that we can tell why your computer is crashing. You didn't tell us anything about your computer, its graphics card, its operating system, or its Internet connection. You didn't tell us which SL viewer you are using. You didn't even tell us enough to know whether you are crashing or disconnecting. Are you getting error messages? What are they? When do you crash or disconnect? What happens? Have you ever been able to enter SL? The list can go on and on.... You need to work with us here if you want help. Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  24. You can't do that. The axis of rotation of a prim is always through its center. The only way to do what you want, as you have discovered, is to use Path Cut Begin and Path Cut End, to cut the door in half so that the center of the original prim becomes the visual edge of the cut prim. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Library/Simple-Hinge-Action/td-p/875331 to see how that is applied to making a simple door. That's exactly how many of the nicest doors in SL are done. Your only other option is to create a hinge prim that you link to the door itself, and let the door swing around the axis of the hinge prim. That wastes a prim, however.
  25. It should be in Preferences >> Graphics. It's a check box near the bottom of that page in Preferences. You must also have Basic Shaders (same page) enabled to see mesh.
