  1. Ooops. I suggest a two-pronged approach. First, copy the transaction information on your purchases from your history on Marketplace. Paste it into a polite IM or notecard to the merchant, explain the situation and ask for a redelivery. I suspect that the merchant will be glad to oblige. We are ll getting used to the new Direct Delvery system and are expecting some odd behavior. Second, file a new JIRA report on this behavior. (Go to jira.secondlife.com, log in, and click the + Create Issue link in the extreme upper right corner of the screen.) Make the appropriate choices from the drop-down menu and fill out your report, including any pertinent information. A cut & paste of your system info from Help >> About in your viewer is a good start, but anything that might help the developers track down the bug is a good idea. Perhaps a screen shot of your shopping cart?
  2. xerojumpen wrote: [....] i just donloaded the viewer today, im running widows vista and i checked to make sure that my system will run it ok, and it does. I enter all my details, and above the loading bar it says : requesting region capabilities, then just crashes and cuts out, no error message, no reason why, and i cant understand it Thanks. That helps. You may be having trouble with a firewall. That's not too uncommon. Take a look at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 for some general guidance about how to configure yours. Sometimes an anti-virus program can have the same effect too, soo look at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/antivirus_whitelisting . If that doesn't solve your problem, it would still probably help if we knew something about your computer.
  3. There's no way that we can tell why your computer is crashing. You didn't tell us anything about your computer, its graphics card, its operating system, or its Internet connection. You didn't tell us which SL viewer you are using. "About halfway" isn't much help. Exactly where does it get before you crash? Are you getting error messages? What are they? Have you ever been able to enter SL? Tell us something so we know where to start. Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  4. Your router should work well right out of the box, with no special settings. You may want to check firewall settings, however. For that, see http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 You should be aware, though, that wireless is problematic foir many SL residents. It is generally prone to interference from many RF sources (cell phones, garage door openers, smart appliancxes, even fluorescent light fixtures) and can lose bandwidth. Also, wireless is not well-designed for the continuous data transmission that SL expects. Unlike on-line games, SL swaps data files between its servers and your client viewer continuously. Interruptions in service can generate lag and lead to disconnections. We generally recommend a direct cable connection for best service.

You mean a sandbox. Try opening your in -world Search and typing the word "sandbox" into it. You'll get a huge long list (I just found 1262 of them). Don't go to one near the top of the list. It will be crowded and may have some people who are just there to annoy you. Sample several until you find one that's nice and quiet. Check to be sure of any rules (What sorts of things you are NOT allowed to rez, like weapons....) and have fun. Another possibility is to join a group that owns land where you can build, or find a friend with a home who will let you work there.
  6. The weak link in an Internet connection is often the router. You said you are on wireless, which is very often a problem in itself, so I'd strongly recommend NOT doing that. Beyond that, though, try temporarily plugging an Internet cable directly into your modem, bypassing the router completely. If that improves your performance, there's a good possibility that the router is at fault. You may be able to fix things by simply rebooting it (unplug it from the power for a few minutes), or you may end up needing to replace it. BTW, you said you tested your connection pingtest and "everything was fine." What were the numbers? In particular, how much packet loss? What was the ping time? How many times did you repeat the test? You might want to read http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ to get a good feel for why these are important questions.
  7. There's no way that we can tell why your computer is crashing. You didn't tell us anything about your computer, its graphics card, its operating system, or its Internet connection. You didn't tell us which SL viewer you are using. You didn't even tell us enough to know whether you are crashing or disconnecting. Are you getting error messages? What are they? When do you crash or disconnect? What happens? Have you ever been able to enter SL? The list can go on and on.... You need to work with us here if you want help. Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  8. You can't do that. The axis of rotation of a prim is always through its center. The only way to do what you want, as you have discovered, is to use Path Cut Begin and Path Cut End, to cut the door in half so that the center of the original prim becomes the visual edge of the cut prim. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Library/Simple-Hinge-Action/td-p/875331 to see how that is applied to making a simple door. That's exactly how many of the nicest doors in SL are done. Your only other option is to create a hinge prim that you link to the door itself, and let the door swing around the axis of the hinge prim. That wastes a prim, however.
  9. It should be in Preferences >> Graphics. It's a check box near the bottom of that page in Preferences. You must also have Basic Shaders (same page) enabled to see mesh.
  10. You're not sending to a Display Name, are you? The name you send to has to be a person's REAL (username) name.
  11. Click on the bar that says "Received Items". It shouild shrink the box to the size of the bar itself. That's what mine does.
  12. If you want to do that, you will need to write a script to manage all of the individual parts and play them in order. It's not easy to do, because unless each of the sound files is exactly the same length as the others, there will be awkward gaps. You may be able to find a generic freebie script somewhere, but that will need to be customized to handle the specific number of sound files and their specific lengths. Unfortunately, sim lag will also cause your sounds to stall occasionally, so unless you are on a quiet sim, you should expect a certain amount of choppiness. See this very recent thread for a better solution >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Music/qaq-p/1455769

    buy lindens

Did you check the Account >> Transaction History on your dashboard at secondlife.com? That's where the accurate records of all transactions are. The number that appears on your viewer screen in world is often not in sync with the official record. You can sometimes encourage it to update by clicking on the number (not the Buy L$ symbol) a few times, but it's best to just check your dashboard. If there's nothing there after an hour or so, call Linden Lab's billing office and ask. If you have a non-technical issue related to billing concerns, you can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English

    Lost Hugable Baby

Yes, it is kind of dark 17m below the surface, so be sure you actually look deep enough to see. And don't be surprised if it's not there on either sim. That was one of the possibilities, not a guarantee.

    Lost Hugable Baby

You can walk or fly. As I said in the post above, <0.0,0.0,0.0> is the set of coordinates for the sim's southwest corner. Your ground level is probably 20m above zero, so you'll have to look below the surface to see that specific point.

    Just go there and look.
  17. Figuratively speaking. I am too late for a real rescue.

    Music

A whole song is not possible. You can upload a sound file in WAV format (44100 Hz, 16 bit) if it is less than 10 seconds long and if you pay L$10 for the upload. If you are clever about it, you can piece together a string of sound files to play as a continuous series. That's the way a lot of pianos and other instruments in SL work. That's your only option for uploading music. Most of the music you hear in SL, however, is not uploaded. It is streamed. If you have your music saved on a streaming server, you can load its URL in About Land >> Sound so that it is the default audio stream for your own parcel. Look at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Parcel-media/ta-p/700097 and https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Streaming_Music to see how that's done. Most people other than live performers and DJs don't host their own streams, however. Their music streams are URLs stored on public servers that you can access with a service like Shoutcast. Here's a sampling >>> https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Music_Streams_To_Play_Inworld
  19. And you checked your firewall, as suggested above? Rebooted your router? Opened your Statistics Bar (CTRL+Shift+1) and checked for Ping Sim and Packet Loss? Most of the things that will cause you trouble are in your own computer or Internet connection.
  20. The part that is always left unanswered in the various Knowledge Base articles that we refer newcomers to is "What do I do after I get in world?" If you're expecting Second Life to be a game, it can be confusing. This is not a game. There's no quest. No points or rank to earn. There's no monster to slay. There's no treasure to find. No maidens to rescue (except me). There's no place that you have to go at all. This is a social virtual world. If you really want to play a game, you can find many in SL, but loads of people never play them (like me). You can go shopping, visit a club and go dancing, meet friends, design and build things, buy land and plant a garden, .... anything you like. If you have only known on-line games before, SL can be confusing because nobody is going to give you directions about things that you have to do. If you want directions for things that you want to do, though, people will be very glad to help. Ask away.........
  21. The first (best) guess is Valerie's. It's Tuesday and LL does server maintenance. Just wait. Second guess.... You are trying to log on to a sim that is either off-line for maintenance or too full to accept more avatars. Log in somewhere else and TP. Third guess ..... You are having a DNS problem. Your viewer and SL's servers have temporarily lost the ability to talk to each other. Change your DNS settings from whatever your ISP assigns you as a default. Use Google's free public DNS servers instead. Here's how >>> http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ Fourth guess ... (please don't let it be this one) .... You logged out while wearing a group tag with "illegal" characters. See https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6608? . This is not an easy one to solve unless you are a Premium member and can ask Live Chat to eject you from the group. If not, you'll have to go in world as an alt, or get a friend to go in, and convince the group owner to eject you from the group.
  22. All I can suggest is this, some of which you have already checked ... The bulk of voice support is given by the external application called SLVoice, which is made by the SL voice provider, Vivox. Voice failures are almost always due to one of the following reasons: Your ISP is throttling or blocking the voice service; failure of the Vivox service; voice issues on the region you are on; voice being throttled by bandwidth set incorrectly - please check it by following the instructions here; voice hardware (mic, headset) not configured correctly in your operating system settings; voice hardware not configured correctly in the viewer; another application has your voice hardware in use (example, Skype); your anti virus software has “mangled” the voice application; see here.
  23. That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked image. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud. What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilitites here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today. You may find that the bake fail problem comes back repeatedly, even after you fix it with one of the suggestions on that wiki page. If so, you have a chronically weak Internet connection. There are many steps to take for repairing it. Perhaps the simplest ones -- ones that work best for most people -- are: (1) Don't Use WIRELESS. Wireless connections are inherently less stable than direct cable connections and are more vulnerable to interference. Then, (2) Reboot your router. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to let it clear its RAM. The plug it back in and let it get a fresh hold on an IP address.
  24. I notice that nobody else has responded to your questiuon in the past few days. Frankly, until now I forgot to check for myself to see what happens when I type high-bit ASCII characaters in a text box. Here's a test script ... default{ touch_start (integer num) { llListen(34,"","",""); llTextBox(llDetectedKey(0), " \n What is your message?",34); } listen (integer channel, string name, key id, string msg) { llSay(0, msg); }} If I type a word with high-bit characters in it ( like "sjömän" ) and click "Submit", it shows up just fine in chat. It also works if I type "sjalt148malt132n" (where I'm actually holding down the Alt key and typing 148 or 132, not typing "alt48" or "alt132"). I don't know why it's not working for you.
  25. I gave up on Classified Ads myself a few years ago, since I had no evidence that they were actually producing any results, so I can't tell you much from current experience. However, using the How do I browse and search classifieds? steps at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Classified-advertisements/ta-p/700049#Section_.2, you should be able to find your own classified in the same way potential customers do: by searching for keywords your classified contains. If you can't find it at first, try using keywords that are more unique to your listing. Tip: Allow at least an hour for a classified to appear and update in search.
