  1. It's wise to learn how Second Life works before you go investing a lot of money into features that you may not need. You obviously need an account because there's no other way to enter SL, but it doesn't necessarily need to be a Premium account that you pay for. Review the descriptions of Basic and Premium accounts to see what the benefits of each are >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Accounts-overview/ta-p/700019 . If you think that you need land, I'd recommend renting on a private estate for a while to see what owning land entails before committing to a longer-term arrangement. Learn how to navigate and manage your belongings, how to communicate, how to create things, and -- most important -- learn the culture. If you were planning to set up a training institute in some foreign country in RL, you certainly wouldn't walk in on the first day, buy a huge estate, and open up shop without learning the local language and customs. This is no different.
  2. If you are using Firestorm, why not use its own internal AO instead of your old one? I'm suggesting that as a solution because 1. You already own it and it's free. 2. It is easy to set up and use. in the simplest mode, you just drag/drop your anims into it. See http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/animation_overrider 3. It operates on a different priciple from scripted AOs, so it doesn't contribute to lag. 4. Because it is not a scripted AO, it is not susceptible to sim-crossing effects and is not disabled if you are in no-script areas.
  3. That is normal, expected behavior, depending on whether you have previously been moving your cam around before you sit. You can recover the default camera angle (camera looking over your left shoulder) by hitting your Esc key at any time.
  4. Hehehe ... Some of my friends are slow typists who change their minds before they finally hit the Enter key.

    NEED HELP

There is an ancient version of Phoenix 1185 that was made for non-SSE2 computers. It doesn't support mesh or most of the other new features introduced during the past two years, but it is still available (Windows only). Windows (Standard): 1.5.2.1185 Windows DownloadAs Peggy says, SSE2 was introduced over a decade ago, and has been standard on all computers manufactured since about 2004. If you have a machine that old, you're likely to have more problems with SL than just SSE2. It's time to spring for a new computer.
  6. Ah.. That's likely. Good catch, Griffin. Of course, many people start typing and never actually send the IM. That annoys the heck out of me, but it does happen.
  7. Too many, but none that will help. Without knowing what a Biosphere dog is and being able to peer into its script, nobody but the person who made it would be likely to guess right. If you didn't make a backup copy of the dog before you stretched him, your only hope now is to contact the creator and ask. @ Irene, Val, Marigold ...... This is my nomination. :smileywink:
  8. If you can see a person typing, she's not sending an IM. The typing animation is only triggered by typing in chat. IM's wouldn't be very private if everyone could see that you were typing. I can't think of a reason why you're not receiving IMs, unless you have muted a lot of people. I'll send you one as a test, so we can see if any are getting through at all.
  9. There's a current bug that is making it hard to rez things in some Linden Homes. The problem is that the servers can't seem to figure out where the edges of your parcel are, so they assume that you are trying to rez things outside them. For now, the best solution is to find one spot in your home where you can rez an object --- probably close to the center of the parcel. Try rezzing a simple cube over and over again until you find a spot where it works. Then, rez anything else you want at that same spot and then move it to its final location. Linden Lab hopes to have the bug fixed in an upcoming server upgrade, so you shouldn't be stuck with this workaround for long.
  10. Oh, I see. Then it really is like the second case I mentioned. No, you don't need the creator's permission. After all, when I or any dressmaker models a dress, we are wearing a skin, hair, eyes, etc. that someone else created. If you're selling a shape, just make it clear that the customer is buying JUST the shape, so you don;t get angry customers. Now, it still might be a cool idea to approach the creator of the skin and say, "Look how great your skin looks on my shape. Is there a way we can work together to market both?" You never know.. Both of you could get more sales out of a deal like that. Unless the skin creator is selling his OWN shapes .......
  11. It's not clear which screen you mean, but if you aren't getting any error messages at all, it's not crashing. It's disconnecting. It's extremely difficult to do much more than guess why, since you didn't tell us anything at all about your computer, its operating system, its Internet connection, or which viewer you are trying to run. Assuming that your computer is even powerful enough to run SL at all, one of the first things to check would be your firewall and your antivirus routine. Either of those programs could view your viewer as a threat and block access. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 to learn how to confgure a firewall for Second life, and then take a look at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/antivirus_whitelisting to see how to keep your antivirus program from blocking the viewer. If neither of those solves the problem, it won't be a great surprise, but you might get lucky. If you have more information to add that might help us make a more specific recommendation, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  12. There are many possible answers. The best way to find out is to call the Linden Lab billing office and ask. If you have a non-technical issue related to billing concerns, you can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English
  13. I'm not sure what sort of "style" card you're thinking of. If you mean that you intend to sell the vendor's shape as if you had made it, you'll need more than permission. Forgiveness, perhaps. If you mean something like "This shape will look great if you are wearing the dress called Big Momma that Avatar Bob made. Visit his shop at .....", that's a great idea. Avatar Bob might even be interested in creating a package deal for customers who buy both items. When in doubt, visit the Intellectual Property Policy page.
  14. Do you belong to one or more groups in which your role has the ability to share group liabilities and assets? Most of the time, people come here complaining that they are losing a few L$ each week because they are paying group liabilites. You may be gaining them because the group is earning and sharing income. You can check easily enough by going to your dashboard at secondlife.com and seeing what it says at Account >> Transaction History. In any case, my advice is the same as it would be if you were losing L$. Don't get too excited. L$8 is less than 4 cents US. That's not enough for a very big party. :smileyhappy:
  15. That is a surprise, and it stinks, too. You don't want to be stuck having to use 1.23 forever. It sounds as if your friend's avatar files in AppData may be borked. The 1.23 viewer is simpler, more tolerant of errors perhaps, so it can deal with the less than perfect files, but V3 can't. At least that's my hypothesis. The way to test it is to clear those files manually and force the viewer to rebuild them. Here's how .... http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/cache_clear . Those instructions are on the Phoenix wiki site, but with only minor obvious changes to file names they apply to any viewer. Please note the first bit of advice on that page: "If you run more than one viewer, it is strongly recommended that you do NOT use the same cache folder for them all. If you do use more than one, create a new folder for [each viewer], as described here."
  16. You may request a review of your account to increase your limits by submitting a ticket. Premium account holders select: Billing and L$ ticket type LindeX Tier Review billing type Basic account holders select: Special Questions - Basic account or Guest Login ticket type LindeX Tier Review We'll review your request and get back to you within five business days.
  17. Juniper Ellisson wrote: [...] It seems like its a server-side issue, not client side. Otherwise why would it be happening on three different viewers? The more logical conclusion is that it's a problem with your computer or its Internet connection. Otherwise, if it were a server issue, there would be many other SL residents with the same problem. Open your Statistics Bar (CTRL + Shift + 1) and check your Ping and Packet Loss numbers. If ping -- a measure of how long it takes for a signal to travel to SL's servers -- is larger than 150-200ms, your graphics card could be getting information about your rapidly changing environment too slowly. Likewise, if you are losing more than a fraction of 1% of your packets, your viewer could be getting enough borked data to kill the connection.
  18. There a fix for this problem coming in an update soon. For now, try rezzing a simple cube prim as close to the center of your house as you can. Keep trying until you find the spot where you can do it. Then, rez furniture at that spot and drag it to where you want it. The problem is apparently that the servers are misinterpreting how close you are to the parcel boundary and are refusing to rez things that they thing are one someone else's land.
  19. Can you get to your store from here? You ought to be able to click on Shopping at the top of this page and then Marketplace >> My MarketPlace >> Merchant Home . If that's not working either, try using a different web browser. Firefox and Chrome usually work better than IE.
  20. There's a JIRA on this issue that was marked "Resolved" a year ago, but sounds like exactly what you are describing. It's Mac-specific. Taked a look >>> Crash in lltexturefetch just after logging in You may want to open a new JIRA, referencing that one and including all of your system specs. In the meantime, try opening yout Preferences >> Graphics >>. Rendering and disabling the box that says Use HTTP Textures. That setting helps most people but has caused crashing problems for a few in situations like yours.
  21. One typical solution is to use a communication channel that is based on the owner's UUID. You can do that in many ways. My favorite is to write integer my_channel = (integer)("0xF" + llGetSubString( llGetOwner(), 0, 6) ) + offset; where offset is an integer. If all scripted objects that should communicate to each other have the same definition in them, they will listen to each other but not to similar objects owned by someone else. They also won't listen to other objects owned by the same person but using a different offset. For convenience, you could have your script read the offset from your object's Description field, perhaps. That way you wouldn't need to dig around in the script itself if you decided to change it. This is not a "secure" system. It's not meant to be a secret code, just a reasonably unique large negative number to do the job.Just remember to put a changed event in your script that resets when the object changes ownership.
  22. You can always buy curtains in world or in Marketplace. They are a fine way to personalize any house, and you can take them to your next home in SL when you outgrow your Linden Home too.
  23. Just study the llSetTexture function in the wiki >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSetTexture Notice the syntax? See where you put a face number? Imagine what would happen if you used the function twice.
  24. Awwww... you did fine, Peter. I know it was hard. Actually, I would get rid of the lines completely if I were doing this project. They are going to be a pain in the neck no matter which way you do it, and will probably increase your prim count unnecessarily. Besides, realism isn't all it's cracked up to be.
