  1. Try opening your Search in world and typing the word "modeling" into the search field. Narrow your search to Events >>. Education. When I do that, I get 52 hits. A few are for classes in creating mesh models, but most of them are classes in learning how to be a model. You can do the same search in your browser at http://search.secondlife.com/?query_term=modeling&collection_chosen=events&isLeftColOpen=True&sort=start_time_asc&category=26&date=06%2F11%2F2012&dateformat=mm%2Fdd%2Fyy&starttime=1930
  2. Thanks for adding the specs for your laptop. As far as I can tell, you ought to be able to run SL, but you will probably have low to medium quality performance. One review that I was able to find says "... This Toshiba laptop delivers tons of extras, including a discrete graphics card that helps carry the video load when the going gets tough. That helps to somewhat overcome the P305D-S8900's biggest negative -- an underpowered AMD processor -- and makes the Toshiba laptop a capable performer for everything short of serious gaming." The unfortunate part of that review is that SL puts a very heavy demand on the graphics card and CPU, so the bit about "everything short of serious gaming" is a sort of red flag. You still haven't told us exactly what happens when you try to run SL on that machine. What does it do? Does it load at all? Do you get an error message at some point? What is it?
  3. That's very hard to answer. You didn't tell us what problem you are having, so we have no way of knowing what to recommend. Tell us what kind of laptop it is, what operating system it is using, what kind of graphics card, which SL viewer you are using, what error messages you are getting, and anything else that might give us a clue where to start helping you. To add useful information, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question here and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread. Incidentally, your post has a title but no text, so it's possible that the extra information you meant to include was never posted. Are you using Internet Explorer 9 as your browser? If so, you need to set Compatibility mode for this web site. While you have this website open, click the Compatibility View button that is located directly to the right side of the address bar next to the Refresh button. It looks sort of like a torn piece of paper. Once you do that, IE9 will let you post things here with no problem.
  4. There are many two-person animations like that. Look for them in Marketplace or -- better-- visit animation merchants in world and try out the demos. What you are looking for is not a script, it's an animation, possibly in an Animation Overrider (AO). Read here about animations >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-gestures-and-animations/ta-p/700069
  5. Probably not unless you can show that the landowner is actively encouraging or supporting the alleged griefers. You may of course file an AR against anyone at any time. After all, you are not the one who decides whether a TOS violation has occurred ... LL does that. You are simply reporting. However, remember that the entire AR process can be slowed down by frivilous complaints, so it's wise not to file an AR over trivial matters.
  6. Welcome to the crowd. The bug you are experiencing is described in this JIRA >>> https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-28954? . There's a fix coming. Meanwhile, you can fix it yourself by disabling Basic Shaders in Preferences >> Graphics. It's a bit ugly, but it works. You can also try using the latest Second Life Beta Viewer 3.3.3.258769, which works for some people>>> https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/?lang=en-US (Click on the Beta viewer download).
  7. Or ... key gOwner;default{ state_entry() { gOwner = llGetOwner(); } on_rez(integer start) { gOwner = llGetOwner(); } touch_start(integer num) { llResetTime(); } touch_end(integer num) { if ((llDetectedKey(0) == gOwner) &&(llGetTime() > 2.0)) //Owner has held left mouse button for more than 2 seconds { llSay(0,"Script deleted."); llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName()); //Kill this script } else { llSay(0, "You have just touched face #" + (string) llDetectedTouchFace(0) + " on prim #" + (string)llDetectedLinkNumber(0)+"."); } }}
  8. There is no way that you can use LSL scripts to rename anything in your inventory. In fact, there's no way that you can even touch anything in your inventory with a LSL script. Scripts can only act on items that have been rezzed in world.
  10. Buying land is a one-time thing, just as it is in RL. You pay the purchase price and hold the deed. Paying the land use fee -- like paying property tax in RL -- is forever. In SL, the purchase price can be surprisingly low -- a few hundred L$ -- but the land use fee can be several thousand L$ a month. Read more about buying land (or renting) here >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Buying-land/ta-p/700043
  11. That happens. It's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. You'll notice that your avatar is normally a cloud for a few seconds as you log in, because the baked file hasn't reached SL's servers yet. Usually the fog clears in a few seconds, but if the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked image. Either way, your av's appearance stays as a fluffy cloud. What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilities here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today.
  12. That bug is ALMOST fixed >>> SVC-7902. Give it another few days --- maybe a week. The servers are having a hard time knowing where the edges of your parcel are, so if you are too close to them, the servers think you are trying to rez stuff on your neighbor's land. That's unfortunately easy in a Linden Home, because a 512 sq m parcel isn't very big. You're always near to one of the edges. Anyway,.... until LL releases the fix across the main grid, the way to beat the problem is to rez stuff as close to the center of your house as you can. Try rezzing a simple cube over and over and over again until you get it to work. Then rez anything else at the same spot and drag it to where you want it.
  13. In two steps. First, you need to sell the L$ to other SL residents. You do this through the Lindex or another currency exchange, which operates like a RL currency exchange or a stock market. The dollars that you get from that sale are deposited in your US Dollar balance. The second step is to request a credit transfer from that dollar balance to Paypal. Read here for more information about the first step >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Buying-and-selling-Linden-dollars/ta-p/700107#Section_.1 And then read here for information about the second step >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Account-balance/ta-p/700015#Section_.2.2 The final transfer to your PayPal account takes 3 to 5 business days.
  14. All movelock scripts are not created equal. As an example, one popular way to keep an avatar from moving during a collision is to make a worn object that can be turned into a vehicle, and then apply the brakes to the vehicle. The guts of a movelock script based on this model would look something like this ... Lock(){ lock_position = llGetPos(); llMoveToTarget(lock_position, 0.05); //"Move" the avatar to its current position llSetVehicleType(VEHICLE_TYPE_SLED); //Turn this object into a vehicle llSetVehicleVectorParam(VEHICLE_LINEAR_FRICTION_TIMESCALE, <0.05, 0.05, 0.05>); // And add enough friction to make it hard to move} You can vary the resistance to movement by changing the amount of friction. You can also put this little code snippet in a timer that keeps moving it back to the lock_position every time the timer triggers. If you make the timer trigger every second or so, the script will keep pushing the avatar and its attached object faster than if you only trigger the timer, say, every 5 seconds. So, one person might have a movelock script with more friction and a faster timer than someone else, so might feel "heavier" to move. Adding the extra resistance comes at a cost for the av and the sim, since a fast timer adds more lag to the sim's servers than a slow one. There are other ways to create a movelock, but each gives the scripter some flexibility to decide how immobile to make the avatar who wears them.
  15. This is a resident-to-resident forum. We are not Lindens and no Lindens ever come here, so we cannot fix anything for you. The Answers forum is here fundamentally to help explain how Second Life works (or doesn't), and tell you where to turn next. There are limits to how much can be done about a determined griefer. Taking a long view, the wisest strategy is usually to ignore the idiot, mute each reincarnation, and AR him as often as you can. Let YouTube and Linden Lab know of each incident and let them deal with it. Griefers seem to thrive on attention. The less they get, the less motivated they are. I know it's frustrating in the short term, but I'd recommend being patient and waiting for him to find someone else to pester. Things NOT to do: 1. Do not retaliate in any way. Griefers truly love to be able to AR you for breaking the TOS. 2. Do not post the griefer's name here or anywhere. That is itself a violation of the Community Standards, which prohibit naming people in an interpersonal dispute publicly. 3. Don't let this ruin your SL experience. Most people in SL are good and honest. Remember to take a deep breath and focus on those people instead of this one bozo. While you are taking your deep breath, you might take a look at this lengthy but well-written overview of dealing with griefers >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Fr43k_Paine/Dealing_With_Griefers . Some of the advice is a bit dated, but there are loads of good ideas in it. Good luck.
  16. Linden Lab does not issue credit cards of any kind. You may use the following payment methods with Second Life: Visa American Express MasterCard Delta Online JCB Discover (U.S. Residents only) Visa Electron (non-U.S. Residents only) PayPal Issues with prepaid and gift cards A common cause of payment method failure is the use of unsupported card types. At this time, the majority of prepaid cards are not compatible with our system, even if they bear the VISA/AMEX/Mastercard logo. This includes cards purchased at retail stores, rechargeable credit cards, and bank-issued check cards. 17. It doesn't make any difference whether it's in chat or in IM. Just block the sucker and walk away, smiling. :smileytongue:
  18. I answered this question when you asked it earlier in http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Need-info-please-on-mesh-viewer/qaq-p/1565571/comment-id/23835#M23835 :smileyfrustrated:

    mb vendor

That sounds like a poorly-scripted vendor. Normally, a vendor includes a timer so that if a customer changes her mind or simply forgets to click a choice -- as you probably did -- the vendor goes back to sleep after a few seconds. This one is apparently still waiting for you to tell it what to do, and it's reminding you in IMs, which is a double no-no. The smartest thing right now is to mute it. Open your chat window and left click on the name of the vendor when you find one of its messages. You'll see three choices: "Map", "Block" and "Close". Choose "Block" and then forget all about it.
  20. There is no way to tell whether an avatar is male or female, and there is certainly no way to tell whether the person in RL who owns the avatar is male or female. You cannot get the answer with a script, and you cannot get it with your eyes. Avatars take many shapes -- many non-human ones too. There is no way to prevent males from entering your sim, except to create a group, admit only people that you trust to be women, and allow only group members to visit the sim.
  21. Importing the obj file into Photoshop CS5 isn't the hard part. You can learn how to do that and handle 3D images at Adobe's own help site >>> http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/topics.html#dynamicpod_reference_16 or in other online tutorials. The hard part --- frankly, I don't know how to do this because I have never had a good reason to find out -- is exporting your own avatar's modified mesh as an obj file from your viewer. Someone who does this for a living, like Chosen Few, will have to step in and answer that part.
  22. I have a Mac computer and I thought the lastest SL viewer as I have it setup for automatic updates. But I find I am now looking at ppl that are distorted and am told that I do not have viewer for mesh. Does the Mac accept Mesh? If not then that is my answer for distorted people now. If it does accept how can I can this mesh viewer?
  23. You'll need to buy (or create) an animation to do that. Then write either a script or a gesture to activate the animation. See >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-gestures-and-animations/ta-p/700069
  24. Thank you for posting this question here. It was answered in the Answers forum, where you originally posted it, but you may get more options here too :smileywink:
  25. There's no way to use a changed event to do that, because a changed event can't detect whether a clothing item has been dropped. Try running a slow timer and testing llGetAttached each time the timer fires. If the function returns a zero, the item it no longer being worn. Then you can use llSetScriptState to pause it if you want. Remember, though, that you'll have to use another script to turn it on and off -- possibly in a HUD. BTW, the place to ask a question like this is the LSL Scripting forum. :smileywink:
