  1. You went way off topic. This topic is about discussing business models not cultural change. 🙃 It really always depends from what perspectives you are talking about things and what kind of change exactly you are talking about. If your intention is to argue you are always going to be able to argue about something with someone.
  2. That is not what I am saying. All changes come about gradually and through time... What you're talking about is the events and actions done by individuals when the energy for change was the highest and time was ripe. In the times when slavery in US was rampant if anyone resisted they were killed. Time for changes was not right yet. 🙂 You are right about people getting off their butts and doing something ^-^ but as long as they don't... its hard to change things.
  3. If its not in your power to change it the alternative is to stress yourself out. If you're not a president or in position of power you can't do much about it and even if you are usually it takes whole generations for things to change (the old ways dies and the new ways are let to emerge).
  4. That it could be psychologically harmful if someone starts living their life through Second Life... What I had in mind with that was when for someone it becomes a serious addiction for which an individual would start neglecting their basic physiological needs (RL needs). For example there was in the papers in past a story about 1 couple being so obsessed about their world of warcraft that they forgot to take care of their baby (an extreme example). That doesn't mean that everyone who enjoys SL is beingpsychologically harmed. Far from it. Most SL users use SL in normal way and to complement their RL and maybe fulfill some higher needs they are missing in RL and do things they couldn't in RL. I was writing about things from my own personal experience with SL. If I am more concrete in past I was in a SL relationship that was limited only to SL not by my choice. In that sense I could not live my "romantic" life through SL. While for some people something like that (for their own various reasons) might work it did not for me and it affected me badly and made me act out in various wrong ways without me being aware its because of it. So I ended the relationship in the end and that helped me. Second Life is and can be and I can say (hopefully) will always stay different thing for different people as they use it in different ways. While I would never suggest or enforce my own view of what Second Life is for me for it to be to the others (except for some minority of people in similar circumstances as me who that can be helpful) I also think that other people who use it in various different ways and for different reasons should not force their own view of Second Life. I think Second Life should keep everything it has and just start adding new things and enable new possible uses of Second Life but in a way in which the existing communities and the ways of use of SL are not affected. 🙂
  5. To reply to someone else.. I am not participating on this forum to look for love or approval from fellow forum participants. I have love and support from a community of 37 000+ people in my group and from over 400 000 people who experienced my products in SL in last 10 years. Which is admittedly not really so much but the numbers could / would be much bigger if Second Life on overall was much bigger. I don't need to prove my value to anyone here on this forum through words - I do that through my creative endeavours and measurable results. I am also not here to get into arguments with other people or to challenge anyone on their understanding of semantics or to question someones logical reasoning. That is why I don't reply to those who want to ridicule or question my sanity, logical reasoning or pragmatic competence. If someone can not accept my style of expressing myself in a written form and the way I talk that is really not my problem. If someone is bothered they can simply choose to ignore my posts or comments on forum like I do of those who I perceive as negative and destructive. I am what I am and I am happy with myself. If they feel like they need to grow hatred towards me then that is not my problem but is a problem of their lack of tolerance and acceptance of people from different cultures who were raised in different countries with different values, views and life experience. When someone has more experience its is nice and admirable when they share it in a constructive rather dismissive way. But the world is as it is and people are as they are. I am ok with it. If someone is being negative or destructive I can just simply remind them of it and mention that there are better ways to be. If they become more positive and friendly its up to them. I am not going to hate someone who is growing hatred towards me - doing that is wasting energy and I prefer to spend my life energy in creative ways. I don't ridicule anyone. I am not disrespecting anyone. My knowledge is limited to what I've managed to experience in life and what I learned. I am still learning and I like learning. We are all learning about things through life. I like participating on this forum because it lets me practice my writing and improve ability to form my thoughts and thinking about things into words. A lot of people on this forum are very intelligent and from comments.
  6. I never think in terms of what is currently there. I always think in terms of what could be there in the future and what are the steps to get there or make it happen. I chose to be an entrepreneur as I always had many ideas about how things could be better and I like growing things. I am not doing it primarily for money - though I need to be keep making it to be able to build bigger and bigger things. I am not one of those people who are frustrated because things with Second Life and Linden Lab didn't take the course like they could for SL to become much bigger. Instead I've decided to try to find ways and help other virtual businesses to grow bigger in Second Life. I like the challenge and I am receiving support from many people who also want that Second Life becomes much bigger. When I learn something from doing business in SL I communicate things to Linden Lab and even if they don't decide to use it or try it at least it gets them thinking and its kind of out there on shelve for maybe being considered or used in future. I have a foot in between the door of crypto industry because that is where the next technological paradigm shift is happening. When the time is ripe or if something was to happen to SL I can make my transition to there. I like Second Life, I have my friends and connections in Second Life and I work from Second Life. My company is not from brick and mortar and I don't need to commute daily to work. It is for me the advanced way to work and Second Life for me is a virtual office. I can work whenever I feel like and from wherever I like and that is the company culture I want to build for my employees if I ever have them. Actually I don't even like the idea of having employees because their interests and goals can not be aligned with goals of organization. I would much prefer to have co-owners or employees in form of stakeholders who own shares and are aligned with goals to make things better and keep making company grow. I can't imagine myself being employed and not having freedom in life and I'd not want that for anyone who I care for or my friends, colleagues, other human beings. I've always seen employment as a form of volunteer slavery. You are selling yourself for money but you will never have anything (unless you invest your earned money wisely - which most don't succeed). In the near future such things as crypto contracts will be possible (think they already are) and cooperation with other people who you can not trust because they're from another continent will be possible. It would be possible to build a similar service in within SL using L$. For example 2 parties step into a business agreement for some work to be done and there is a 3rd party who receives collateral from both parties that gets released according to contract if both parties respect the contractual agreement and work/job gets done. Yes can not be applied for all cases and there is problem of enforcing IP. But enforcement of IP and patents has always been problematic for in within SL. I've been building my business, products and brands in SL for 10 years. I am here to stay. For the problem of not being able to be paid for skills and time comparably to what real life companies pay you on job market I've already managed to solve at least for myself/my own business needs and other content creators who cooperate with me. We don't pay each other in L$ but instead we trade with each other work and time. I am a programmer and for my friend 3D designer I create or help around programing solutions for product and in return my friend designs a 3D object that I need for my business. Or if there is trust we can set split commission on my friend's product that I helped to make and in return I set split commission on another product that my friend helps me with.
  7. I am observing and seeing that everyone (or at least from most people) thought process when thinking about selling something in Second Life is oriented around selling a 3D product (bodies, hair, nails, skins, clothes). There are services in Second Life as well (and I am not talking about escorts). Admittedly there aren't many services but it would be cool and good for SL economy if there were even more services developed (a service economy can be created). Services from business support, graphic design, social media advertising to services of helping people with some disabilities and many others. I am talking about organized paid services. When I think about business in Second Life my thought process is different from everyone because I think about things as a programmer who thinks in terms of automating processes. I am working on or rather upgrading one of my oldest products to change it into a franchise these days. I will not mention the name to not be accused of advertising on forum but to me it makes perfect sense and I see an opportunity for it to grow into a biggest franchise example in Second Life and as it grows it will help many. It may happen or it might not. I am enjoying researching, thinking and working on it. I would like to thank everyone who is posting and expressing their opinion or even a critic about franchise business model. Like I already posted I think in some other topic. Everyone is viewing the world from their own perspective. The greatest inventions and breakthroughs in science, tech and business have been made by people who were able to see the world differently than everyone else. And to those few individuals here who are making fun of other people that think differently and are able to see things from many different perspectives... If you're one of those that is enjoying in act of social bullying then know that you're actually making fun out of yourself - highly probably because you don't have anything smart to add to discussion. We are living in an open society where different, skins, views, perspectives and diversity is celebrated. If you are intolerant and can't accept others with different views then that is a serious problem within you.
  8. CSRs could have their own stores and there could be many more of them. That is just 1 suggested way to maybe use franchise and what for. But that is not really what I had in mind. I have my business in mind and for my type of business it perfectly makes sense to turn it into franchise. While for other products I am not so sure... its really up to content creators to evaluate what type of business model and strategy they want to take and see will most fit their product and their way of doing business.
  9. What a great idea! A franchisee could be someone who has a great understanding of the product and can help/assist other people in using it or employ other people in the store to do that. Franchise package can include training / education material. Some products in SL are highly complicated.
  10. Not everything is as it appears to be. 😁 But some people believe that if you repeat something over and over again somehow it will become true... its like with fake news🙃
  11. Setting something to a "non profit per prim price" is not the same as providing "free space" You are quoting things out of context to make it appear as if I said something that I actually didn't say. I have a creative area on my sim where I started creating a small script library (a prototype) and in future it can become an open source and hangout place for scripters and those who want to learn scripting by using open source scripts. Now there are wiki, forum and other things where people can already do that but what is different with this place is that it is in Second Life and you can meet other people there to hang out and script or solve problems together. It is more social and you can make friends - maybe even product - business partners. It is just that area where I would be interested to offer free space for those who sell full permission items in future if the above open source hangout area takes off. Now in the other parts of sim I rent out stores at non profit price but its all rented out already for months. Now this open source project I described above has absolutely nothing to do with the franchise business model. 🙂 And about the full permission content makers that let other people use their designs in their own businesses I just wanted to express that I like this practice and want to support that kind of content creators because that is very good for content creation on overall in SL. I like to support people who create something that can benefit other people - just like open source.
  12. The fact is that many people in SL only visit or hang out at few of their favorite places and they rarely go to explore other lands. In SL if you want to bring something to attention of the people you need to find ways to introduce it at the place where they hang out - it is called product placement. But it needs to be subtle - trying to direct sell something to people never works. They need to decide to want something on their own or because they've seen others having it and they like it / want to be like others who they aspire to. There are only specific types of products and services that the franchise business model is perfect for them. The type that can work and be packaged into a "business in a box" (marketing material, graphics, ads are all included) and needs to be scripted in a way so that when franchisee gets a sale then royalty fee is automatically paid (profit share). To create a franchise business model one has to design it into that way from the get go. With franchise model you get free marketing if your business marketing material can be found at many places - you can be almost everywhere. But the product/service also needs to be one that has a market for - it needs to be desirable and it needs to be such that the high traffic places in Second Life can benefit from it. None of my posts here on forum are business proposals and for this reason they'd never find their way on your desk. Most of my posts are call to action and invitation to other virtual businesses to cooperation in future. And some of the post I make are just because I am fascinated about something or intrigued and I write about it to see what other people think about it.
  13. That is exactly the model of running a business that is my fav and it is a good model. Managers can do a lot of damage if they micro-manage employees. The people who are involved with processes of work on a daily basis usually know the best how to improve on it and make it better or reach goals more efficiently or faster. I think so much more in tech industry. Its is very good in within organization to have healthy communication and feedback loops. This turns the organization more towards the learning organization. Manager's task is to set up the process initially and maybe supervise to see that goals are reached and to motivate employees to learn faster. 😁
  14. I set all the rentals at non profit per prim price as my goal is not making profit from rentals just to cover the tier/rent I pay for it and also I want to help other people. My sim has been fully rented out for months. Maybe now and then some store-front gets released as the renter gets overdue for too many days. Yes I actually built a an automated scripting machine / device that teaches people the very basics of scripting. My goal was to try to find a way to make it as simple as possible to progress through the basics. A 65 years old person was able to do it so I counted that as a success.. lol Then the project progressed to an economy simulation game where people were getting paid for learning new things but then LL saw a problem with it and I had to stop the project and negotiated with LL with proposed new designs until they accepted 6 months ago and now waiting for additional confirmation before I'd start anything like that on such a scale.
  15. I have a plan to create a franchise. I have an idea about how to. Its going to be lots of work. If gods give me strength I'll make it. Best way to see if something can work is to actually do it and see if it works. Another reason why I posted about franchise model on public forum is probably to keep myself motivated. Lots of people saying about something that its not going to work actually gives me energy to through work prove them wrong. \O.. O/ My motivation works in mysterious way 😁
  16. I'd be interested to provide free space to sell their full permission products at my sim. I want to support the creators of full permission items and also open source scripts. I already started building an open source scripts library in-world and writing scripts in a way so that those people who don't know yet how to program can easily use them - its commented and explained step by step. I haven't invited other scripters to help me yet. My model is such that the scripters create the basic open source scripts that everyone can get for free and then they create another one that they can sell for few L$ with step by step explanation how to use it and with added functionality (this way scripters who produce open source are rewarded a bit for their time and effort to build a script library).
  17. Sometimes public forums remind me of Plato's Allegory of the cave Everyone can see things in the way they want to see and believe in things they want to believe. It is fine. My purpose on this forum isn't to get in arguments with other people or to test anyone's semantic and logic abilities. I started this topic for people who might have had an idea of creating something as a franchise in SL and they forgot about it (hehe and this way I also won't forget about it as it will stay on my mind because its been discussed). And for those who haven't yet considered business model of a franchise and for those who don't know yet about it and might learn something about it. There are so many products and services that have not yet been invented in Second Life. For some of new products and services franchise model might work the best. It can not work for all virtual businesses as they are all very differently set up.
  18. Well I am not trying to change anything for anyone. I am not even in position to change anything. I want to add and build new things and encourage people to do the same if they want. If Second Life somehow became more than just a virtual utopia and gained on new use cases and started being used by more people for more different reasons this wouldn't really mean that you or anyone else who used Second Life for specific narrow purpose that they prefer would need to stop using it that way. Take for example internet as a protocol. If some people use internet for accessing google search to find something that doesn't change the internet for you in case if you're just using it for email. I view a virtual world as a tool - a protocol built on top of internet TCP/IP layer. There is a reason why no one can really define what Second Life is. Because it is different for different people as different people use it for different things. Same is with internet. It is a multi purpose tools. My main argument is that if you add more and more layers for different uses you are going to get more people from all over the world who will want to use Second Life in their own preferred way. Second Life is multi-community, multi-cultural, multi-purpose online world the moment this would no longer be seen and supported by the company who owns it the magic of Second Life would disappear and it would start to decline.
  19. Usually franchisees are not opening business in a desert because there is no people. Franchisees set up where there are people. In Second Life the german SL users who usually visit Hamburg might not even know that Chicago exists or they don't go there because they speak different language and they want to spend time with people from the same country. You are right there are no physical distances but you're forgetting about the cultural differences and differences in taste and their fav hangout places SL users have.
  20. Why are some people trying to convince me about things that they are not going to work or that it has been tried and it didn't work or that it already exists and it doesn't work 😁 Anything and everything is possible if there is energy and will for it. \O.. O/ Rather than how something is not going to work. Tell me how to make something in a way that it works. \O.. O/
  21. I haven't read it in full... just relevant part of it. I can say that social recognition is very important to all of us on a deep biological level. We're designed by nature as social beings. It is already established in social sciences that when humans are isolated its very bad for development and also in some (many) cases its psychologically harmful. Something in our hearts and brains is programmed so that our natural way of operation is to be social with other humans and when we're isolated for some time we have natural inclinations to want to feel closer to others. The social networks of modern days are based on this understanding of the deep need to connect and be social with other people. We are acting social even if we're not talking to other people through using symbols (the way we dress up, what we wear). I'd argue that most of the things we do and decision that we take are from social inclinations. We're mostly unaware of these forces like ants are unaware of understanding why they are part of a colony and doing their job. We like to belong to groups as we have deeply ingrained biological need to belong. When as a humanity we're reaching for stars and making scientific and technological breakthroughs we all feel that this is us. We are proud that we're humans. We are always trying to better organize and create larger and larger organizations to try to achieve larger goals and make breakthroughs. In times of natural catastrophes and in times of extreme events we get united and we get reminded that we're all just humans and in relation to universe time with extremely short expiration date. Maybe knowing that we all have our internal body clock ticking and that we are all going towards our deaths with every passing day makes me want to live in the now and makes me want to get more out of my life. It also makes me more calm, composed and non conflicting as I don't want to waste my energy and out of respect to other people also their energy. So I resolve conflicts with others fast and efficiently knowing they usually arise from misunderstandings - people seeing things from their own personal perspective (or emotional states) not being aware of perspective and personal beliefs of others. The most efficient way to resolve the conflict in the picture is to make both of them become aware that in this particular case there are 2 possible perspectives. Learning and teaching is the best way to resolve most conflicts among humans.
  22. As I had some graphics designed for me by a friend today it suddenly occurred to me, the long forgotten idea of a franchise as a viable business model in Second Life. What is a franchise? Think about McDonalds. Disclaimer: I don't like fast food, unhealthy food or promotion of unhealthy life or habits on overall. I am mentioning McDonalds because its a symbol of a success of a franchise as a business model. There are many franchise chain restaurants who promote more healthy lifestyle and service more healthy food. It is a very successful business model that I learned about and many years ago as a student when I traveled in US I was able to see it with my own eyes (Smoothie King, The CheeseCake Factory, SubWay and many others). In past I was going in direction of creating one in SL but then I totally forgot about it as I got busy with other things. Some time ago I've watched biographical drama film The Founder and through it I learned about complicated and even controversial history of McDonalds. It was very educational. If your aim is to grow big business some day I recommend you watch it. I think that franchising could be a very successful model that could be used across different type of virtual services and products in within Second Life. I am not starting this post to promote my franchise (because I don't even have one) but to promote the franchise as a viable business model in Second Life for virtual content creators. It works in RL and I believe it can work well in Second Life. I wanted to become a virtual business coach and help other people find ways how to grow their virtual businesses. For same reason I recently floated the idea of a business incubator in Second Life. There might already be successful established franchising models in Second Life and we don't know about it. The closest I think is affiliate marketing / virtual products brands in-world stores who share commission on sales. But I think those lost on prominence with introduction of SL Marketplace (but they still work). Second Life is used for many different things. The aspect of Second Life that I focus on and which one I want to advance virtual businesses and the ability for people to be able to earn money in a virtual world. Basically I employ my mind both professionally and as a hobby to try to find more and more ways how to make as many people as possible to benefit from growth of Second Life economy. I would like to see Second Life to become something more than what global community currently sees it for. A place to escape into a surreal world and where you can forget about your RL. (Disclaimer: using SL to relax and escape from mundane life is perfectly ok and I don't have anything against it at all and it is actually currently the biggest reason why and what for Second Life is successful). I would want it to be that and so much more. That is why I am all for exploring other use cases of Second Life not of it just being a game or a role play place but also a place where one can work, learn, advance and earn money and conduct and grow business. I would like to see it being seen by global public audience as a world of many different opportunities. Now most people don't have skills, talent or time to learn designing or 3D modeling to a level where they could create a marketable products. I believe that virtual businesses in Second Life could provide for employment of people with less skills in a way to provide for them a viable path towards gaining many new skills that can put them on a progression path in life and at the same time grow virtual businesses that can gain a significant importance. I have already gained so much from Second Life. I came to the point where I realized that to outside world Second Life is still relatively small and the only way forward is if we as a business community of SL find ways how to cooperate and create real business breakthrough that can lead towards greater and better recognition of Second Life to the outside world. But for that we need to start creating products, services and BRANDS that can go big - McDonalds big (that could break through & gain recognition in real world). Basically someone within SL business community needs to create a killer product for SL that will create interest and waves of new sign ups to Second Life that will benefit all the other existing businesses in SL. They need to be able to make so much money so that they can afford to advertise on Facebook, Instagram and other social media and add to the efforts of LL marketing. We need to learn or work towards to provide environment to make such things possible. I would not like to see just 1 but a growth of as many as possible virtual business giants in within Second Life. Franchise is a nice business model for creating new rules and standards for product or service that can then spread all over the grid. All the communities can take the business in a package and integrate them in within their lands for communities to use. If I ever create any new products in Second Life I'll apply the model of a franchise. I would like to lay it to the heart of everyone who means something in a virtual business community to maybe start marketing your products and brands in a way you can create opportunities for the SL users. If you want to set your SL business on a enhanced growth path then find ways to make it so that clients of your services and consumers of your products can also benefit from growth of your virtual business and brand. Many are already successful at it and just need to find ways or add their successful model on steroids. So I present a franchise as a business model as something to look into and learn from it and maybe implement in your own business strategy.
  23. Yes you're totally right. This is an excerpt from a science article: Social groups across species rapidly self-organize into hierarchies, where members vary in their level of power, influence, skill, or dominance. ... One's relative status has profound effects on attention, memory, and social interactions, as well as health and wellness. Understanding Social Hierarchies: The Neural and Psychological Foundations of Status Perception https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5494206/
  24. Actually I am also starting to think it comes with age / experience you gain. So you might be well right as with age people accrue experiences.
