  1. If from the beginning there was an honest attempt to communicate with your customers directly instead of doing it only for show, second life might not have been what the original developers expected, that is for sure, but it would be a platform that would have survived, which is more than I can say for where I think it's going now if all of your efforts are spent making it into something users clearly are not interested in.

In theory it is a good idea but not before Second Life can truly compete because as the previous poster metioned and what I've mentioned in previous posts, no one will down-grade their experience no matter how hard you want to believe this could work so, use this as a means to measure the climate and go from there, provide tools to the community as you plan to but I wouldn't expect very much, you need to undo all of the mistakes that were made in the past somehow before you can move forward.

  2. I've been in second life since 2006 and a content creator since 2007 and although I continue to create and flesh out new ideas, second life as many have said is no longer what it used to be and doesn't seem to be moving in any particular direction either.

From my perspective, not only has Linden Lab made it's share of blunders over the years but the users themselves have become exceedingly bitter and arrogant and it's hard to remain encouraged around swarms of either miserable or despondent creatures. Years ago when everyone was complaining constantly in these forms, they still had faith in this platform and were speaking together as a community. I don't feel this is the case now but who knows, one thing is for sure though, I'm less interested about what happens here than I ever was and that can't be a good thing.

NEW COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES SET THE STAGE FOR CONSTRUCTIVE DIALOGUE

We've  updated our guidelines about community participation and they're  largely the same, just clarified and streamlined for easy reference. The  purpose of these new guidelines is to keep the conversations   constructive, courteous, respectful, and in the spirit of collaboration  so that we can have more thoughtful and effective discussions. The new Community Participation Guidelines outline the ground rules, in addition to our Terms of Service,   for all Resident and Linden communications on the blogs, forums, bug   tracker (JIRA), SL Answers, User Groups, and the Knowledge Base.

I want to know if forum and blog posts that are critical of Linden Lab and Linden Lab policies are now going to begin to earn in-world bans.

It's a good question that wasn't answered and I don't think will be answered, which is the answer?

You should visit the "Getting Immersed in Second Life" thread and view Celestiall Nightfire's posts because after skimming through and reading everyones account of events, I have decided the safest bet for me personally is to just not participate in community forums any longer because expressing an unpopular opinion really isn't worth the risk of losing your account. These newly created restrictions (guidelines) really don't make me feel any safer either.

But didn't you read what I said about psychological studies that have proved, again and again, that people are changed by their fantasies?  Television does affect how people think.  Movies do affect how people think.  Internet porn does change the way people think.  These things have real life repercussions.

So yeah, they may not get VD or pregnant by what they do online.  But the mental and psychological damage can be incalcuable...

Internet violence and pornography actually has the reverse effect, as counter-intuitive as this may seem, resulting in statistically lower real world violence and sex crime.

The simple reality you've missed is that the human animal has drives like any other animal.
The more you repress an animals natural behaviour, the more aggression you'll get from that animal.

That is how we got the pedos in SL - anything goes doesn't work!

Well, LL has not exactly been helpful here; allowing the child avatars to exist has both contributed to the anything goes impression, and played up to the agenda of pedos.

You're both right. It's not like imagination, diversity and self-expression matter much in SL anyway.

    We're solving problems today.

  6. "I think 2012 is the year of the rebirth for SL, which is why I wanted to get back into it now."
    -- Delura Ling

So, you leave SL through 4 years of decline only to return now, one year too early, because of a premonition that 2012, pretty much half a decade later, would finally be that year SL rebounds? Did you have big plans for a club or something because I'm not sure what kind of change you were expecting to justify a full return especially with reduced everything and frustrated everyone?

Judging by your final thoughts though, I wouldn't be surpried if you're part of Linden Lab or even the CEO himself, tipping us off on what's to come just to see what kind of reaction you get. I guess we'll see right?

  7. Have you considered the bots people use to game traffic? The bots are keeping this game alive; they're everywhere and as far as I can tell nothing is being done, for the sake of statistics. Places I've reported haven't changed so, way to keep things fair and balanced for the hardworking merchants, they are the life blood of second-life after all.

Anyway, this is interesting : http://www.sharespost.com/companies/linden-lab
