  1. Barbara Hannigan is not only a great conductor but she is also a wonderful singer. Did you know you can do both at the same time? She can! In Voix humaine, an opera for solo voice from Poulenc based on a play from Jean Cocteau
  2. I think the feeling/longing to have such a place, whatever it is called, is universal.
  3. The little one person-chapel in the park was the last one to turn from winter into spring!
  4. Ow thank you! That feeling is exactly what I want to convey. It has to do with comforting things. I can go on SL and elsewhere to beat all kinds of dragons, but when I am at Dutch estate, I simply want to feel at home.
  5. I was unstoppable, so worked on one piece to change Dutch estate from winter to spring. My land was open all the time and I did have visitors, but I'm fine with them having a work-in-progress experience. But apart from some fine-tuning, Dutch estate is now spring-ready! [I planned to had it done begin March, but I am early finfished] Alas, fans of winter and snow, hooray lovers of spring!
  6. That is really a moving story of true friendship. Warms my heart. Make me think of classical music especially written for a pianist who lost one arm. Mauric Ravel (the guy from the famous bolero), wrote Piano Concerto for the Left Hand for pianist Paul Wittgenstein who had lost his right arm in the First World War.
  7. She is! I so love her and her attitude! Child of sin from the same named album is a duet with Till Lindemann of Rammstein, also amazing!
  8. Kovacs - Mata Hari (Live at Royal Theatre Carré)
  9. Kovacs - The Devil You Know A wonderful Dutch singer/composer with a perfect sence of drama and the voice of Eartha Kitt.
  10. The so called arrogance of the creator is not that of creators but the arrogance of humans being arrogant. I have great admiration for the creators of SL. Without them, I cannot furnish my land, dress up my avatar. Recently I saw a creator who made bouquets like old still lifes of old Dutch masters. Wonderful! Hooray for the creators!
  11. Waterland is finished! Now I am turning the rest of Dutch estate from winter into spring (publicly, it remains open). The parcels Waterland and the rest of Dutch estate are not adjacent (though nearby), but you can easy be transported from one to another.
  12. The kitchen/dining room of the Zaans house at Waterland. Love the bouquets from China & Goodies. They remind me so much of old Dutch still lifes. I just saw some of them at the Rijksmuseum (alongside The Night Watch (being publicly restored) and Vermeer's paintings, I was there for the retrospective of his works). Anyway, I spoke to the creator of China & Goodies Marie de Polignac yesterday and she confirmed that she made the bouquets following the example of old Dutch still life, among others. Hooray for the creators of Second Life!
  13. Begin March I planned to have turned my land from winter into spring. But that will take me weeks, so I started allready. Waterland is nearly finished, back to my good ol' Dutch estate! Trying out different shapes and colors of (spring) flowers. I use the Sweet garden flowers of HPMD for the walls. Of course they actually belong on the ground, but you try some :-).
  14. Well, one of the names for our planet, the earth, is 'aardkloot, in Dutch' which means earthball, so it can also mean the whole planet. But it refers I think to the shape of the ball. Kloot also simply stands for "ball" or "bullet. Previously, the game's balls were made of wood (i.e. not earth), weighted with lead. Nowadays, they are made of plastic (but also weighted with lead). They have to be heavy otherwise they roll in all directions.
  15. Minigolf, that brings back memories of RL family anniversaries :-). In the east of the country we play 'klootschieten.' Throwing in groups a ball underhand along lanes with ditches in as few throws as possible to the finish line. The word sounds odd to many Dutch people because kloot is also the word for the round balls men normally have hanging between their legs 🙂 but it is also an old word for earth ball.
  16. You could make a list of special things you would like to do if you were at the end of the world and make themes of it. Divide the land into those themed areas. Because the end-of-the-world theme in itself is so big, then you risk getting into choice stress LOL. You make it manageable by dividing your land into themes and limiting yourself to that by area.
  17. Love that the things you do in your land are really the things that fit in what you would imagine of the dreamest version of the end of the world.
  18. A true explorer! When I am done furnishing I will also travel again around SL, it's such fun!
  19. Frank Lloyd Wright, I love his works! I've been to Fallingwater and other houses of him on a trip to the US and I just adore his designs. In RL I have a replica that Cassina made of the Tokyo Imperial sofa that he designed for the Tokyo Imperial hotel, I think in 1922.
  20. I love land with a story, and especially SL love stories!
  21. Looks great! And as an ex librarian in RL I always love libraries and books so you can't get wrong with that in my opinion 🙂
  22. Furnishing the land from my childhood memories: the tiny tidy gardens and the laundry hanging to dry.
