  1. Well I applaud to that! In The Netherlands we would say: 'Dat kan op een tegeltje!' 🙂 It is difficult to translate I think, literally: That could be on a tile. In earlier days you had those tiles with wise sayings that people had in their homes. So tiles with a saying or a wise sentence. In this tite the saying is in English: 'Life is a party, but you have to hang the garlands yourself' Anyways, sexual preference/commitment SHOULD be based on choise. If everyone would respect that, That a sexual commitment is based on the choise of both, we would live in a wonderful world.
  2. I really love art - in RL and in SL I actually buy art - and have a great admiration for residents who organise things and make sure things happen on Second Life. Very inspiring to me. I was'n't at the opening (I love people but am not a lover of large groups of people together), but I certainly will stop by at the exhibition!
  3. Thanks all for the positive and sweet reactions! And of course @cirleenfor trying out the taxi what actually turned out not to be a yellow cap, 😉 that verhicle still hasn't arrived I am afraid 😂. But the transportation link worked, so I can share Erasmus park with everyone! Cirleen said to me that the park felt as if it was based on real parks and that is certainly the case. The statues and some fountain are more south-European in grandeur, but the rosary is really totally based on the rosary in the Vondelpark Amsterdam with the hexagonal borders. Delamar theater also really excist in Amsterdam. Fien De la Mar was a Dutch actrice and diva. One of the few Dutch diva's, In The Netherlands we normally don't act like diva's but she did 🙂 Unfortunately she was not happy at the end of her life and commited suicide by jumping out of a window. In the hospital people asked her before she died what was her reason. She said the famous line as answer: 'Om alles.' (Because of everything). A park in the city of Utrecht, my hometown, has an old observatory so that was my inspiration to have an observatory in the park. And the park also needed a 'landmark-like' building. Many old parks have such a building. The Vondelpark Amsterdam has the pavillon for instance, there used to be a film theater in it that played old movies named Vertigo after the Hitchcock movie, but now it's gone, but the building still is there. For Erasmus park I placed a building with a clock tower. Not quite the same, but that's not a big deal. It's all about the feeling. It has also a very nice bell tone when the clock strikes!
  4. Dear people, here is the transportation link to Erasmus park!
  5. There are many famous quotes of Erasmus, but the most famous, I guess, are: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed is king Prevention is better than cure - Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself. War is delightful to those who have had no experience of it.
  6. It worked! I meant the link to the park. I landed the first time downstairs in the ocean with the same link I gave you, but now it's all good. Maybe it's an idea to make a (real) taxi that takes you to different spots of the sim and Dutch estate. Thanks for the idea! So many thanks for your kind words. When I am creating something, I simply don't know what others will think of it. I wanted to make a park like the favourite parks that I have visited and love to return to. I like it when it is beautiful to take photos, but my main concern is to make something that makes you feel like you are really there, that many people have walked here, that there has been living and laughing and crying. It has to have history. A bit like writing a novel where you create a world that has to feel real to the reader. I don't really see much difference between this and writing a novel, crazy enough. And the chandelier in the Erasmus pavillon! (the painting is a modern depiction of a young Erasmus, by the way. Desiderius Erasmus was a Dutch philosopher and Catholic theologian who is considered one of the greatest scholars of the Northern Renaissance.). But the chandelier. It's Murano glass. I have been to Venice at my Honeymoon and to Murano nearby where they make the famous glass. And the maker of the chandelier is China and Goodies. You really MUST take a look at that shop if you love real sophisticated antique with a history. Delamar theater (named after a Dutch actress and diva - there is actually a Delamar theater in Amsterdam -) also has the same chandelier. I really LOVE how you visibly had fun. It splashes off the photos. So much fun to see and you are obviously a great photographer.
  7. You are so welcome! I love Nina. She is now 67 or so and still is going strong and makes music. Originally she comes from East Germany. Her mother was a distinctive Kurt Weil/Brecht singer so the musical talent runs in the family.
  8. Yes, that's it! When you're allready spicey, you don't have to be spiced up 😂
  9. Oh, these are really awesome! And the one with the giant mushrooms, it's like a modern Alice in Wonderland.
  10. Looks great. Love the NY environment. If you asked me where I would like to live abroad someday maybe, it would be Paris or New York! They are completely different cities but with both I had that feeling of coming home.
  11. When you add Neko Lion to a standard Jake/Daniel it isn't standard anymore. Then it is something of your own. And that's what it makes attractive. And Lion ears are cute, aren't they? Sorry if it was not meant to be cute, but rather fearsome and mighty like a lion 😂
  12. I have just finished the text for the destination guide for the Erasmus park: There many parks in the world and of those, I carry some in my heart. That's what I was thinking about when I created Erasmus park. Here is old world history, you feel it. And although there are many things to do: a visit to the theatre, the observatory or the board game area, it is above all a place to unwind. A treasured place you come back to every time. I think it's too long but I'll find out when I start adding it. There is just one thing, the park consists of 9 small parcels (and they are really small, Dutch estate is the same size as the park and consists of 3 parcels). When I wanted to go there, I sometimes landed on the ground instead of in the sky where the park is. I read that this is 'normal' and visitors do land at the right height. I have now created a 'home' link and I do land in the right place. Before I submit the park to the destination guide, could one of you perhaps check whether the taxi is working properly and you don't end up in the water below but nicely in the park? That would be great, and you will have a sneak peak to the park 🙂 And to follow the theme of this thread, I'll just share more pics, this time of the park theatre.
  13. Copernicus tower. It was originally a tower with a clock and some kind of gem in the top, but I took these out (the big gem was too fantasy for a more or less realistic park) and put a rotating starry sky in it to make it an observatory. And an old tower is nothing without gargoyles so I added those too.
  14. Thanks! I will share the taxi link to Erasmus park later! It's in the sky, so I must find out if the link is allright. First time I build in the sky but, well, you know, neighbours and high walls in Mainland. Was even a fun thing to send the trees and the pavements etc. one by one honderds meters in the sky, up they went, up they went. I am curious what you guys have shared and will read the last posts of this thread.
  15. Dear people, I am back on the forum for a while. I did miss you guys! But I needed time to write a book. Did I succeed? It is not yet finished but I am well on my way. Was I never on SL these months? To be honest: I was on SL. I was away from the forum and stopped taking photos for Flickr. And I was planning to go away completely for a while. I was at my holiday home Beekzicht for the last time. I was about to leave. Then suddenly a neighbour spoke to me and offered me her parcel at a low price. I thought: why not? And bought it. Then I saw that neighbouring parcels were abandoned and sent requests to buy them and they were granted. Long story short: at one point I was left with land at the size - more or less - of Dutch estate. I decided to turn it into a public park. Unfortunately, I had to close Waterland and the Beekzicht holiday home for this, because otherwise it would be too much work (and money 🙂 for me to keep track of it all. Anyway, end of story: I have now set up a park that I will open later this year! It does not have a Dutch theme like Dutch estate. But is certainly very European in atmosphere with old fountains and ditto statues, a small theatre, a rose garden (based on that of the Vondelpark), an observatory (the park in my hometown in RL Utrecht has an observatory), a small harbour, and a greenhouse with the most famous water lily in the world etc. So, so this is what I did in the meantime: wrote half a book and made a park 🙂 and this is how my SL looks today.
  16. Folks, I had a marvelous time here! In RL I am a writer and I am now busy with a new book (and finding a publisher for my first childrens book). I said earlier that I have to limit my time at Second Life when a neighbour practised some visual pollution, but then I bought new land and turned also everything to spring. Maybe it was an excuse to pospone serieus writing. But I guess I mainly had a hell of a good time here! But now I must limit my time seriously if I want to succeed in finishing my book ever! 🙂 Maybe one day I'll share what I write, it's in Dutch of course, and not translated so that will stick to small bits with Deepl translate or something. And from time to time I will definitely check back here. But for now, I have to get going! Dear, dear people! See you soon!
  17. Oh I love this falling/floating experiment! Well, you remember maybe my floating-with-umbrella-from-the-roof-of-hotel-Chelsea obsession, so then you know I love to float LOL.
  18. Two kitchens in the same sim (Waterland, Dutch estate), different atmosphere and taste.
  19. De Staat - Devil's Blood. Live in the house of the singer Torre Florim.
  20. De Staat & Drumband Michael - Input Source Select (live)
  21. Oh dear, is this going to be another running gag like the floating yellow ducks? 🙂
  22. In RL, I live in the city of Utrecht, which is like Amsterdam in terms of old city centre with canals, only smaller and older. Utrecht has unique wharf cellars. These are one level below street level. This is where the goods used to be stored, brought in by the boats over the canal Oudegracht. I once visited a resident of a canal house. He showed us his house and we descended to the wharf cellar under his house. To my surprise, he had... a swimming pool in there! I never forgot that and took that idea to Dutch estate. Under villa Utrecht is a wharf-level swimming pool tiled with Delft blue tiles with tableaux representing old Dutch cities.
