  1. I re-read my post and realised it came across more negative than I intended; so I just want to add that Catwa heads are exceptional, and top-of-the-line. The fact that they share that top spot with several other brands shouldn't diminish the quality of said product.
  2. There is nothing special about Catwa heads, from an objective feature-based point of view. The brand is pretty much equivalent to it's major competitors, such as Lelutka and Laq. The only real deciding factor is personal taste - which head to you like the look of the best? You should make the decision based on aesthetic reasons, as everything else is pretty much even. Oh, and the fact that the Catwa HUDs (yes, plural) were designed by someone smoking some seriously potent stuff Also, there's the issue with Catwa trying to intimidate other designers with frivolous lawsuit threats last year, so you'd need to consider the ethics of supporting that kind of a creator. That may or may not matter to you, it's another personal decision.
  3. People who recognise the altervista phishing scam link and yet lack the brain cells to even consider the possibility that the account posting said link is actually a victim of said phishing scam.
  4. In an ideal world, all boxes will be HUDs with a click-to-unpack script. Just seems like the ideal compromise, one that works for pretty much everyone. So long as the unpacked box name starts with a letter and not a nonsense symbol... 🤢
  5. I'm part way through sorting out my "Unsorted" folder... I had ~120 boxes in there, mostly weekly sale stuff that would have only cost 50-75L, but built up over the course of 6 months or so. I've seen pretty much every kind of bad box imaginable. Boxes that have to be rezzed in order to be opened. Damn Luddites, it's no longer 2004. (Gacha items are the only exception.) Boxes that unattach themselves when unpacked. I have a system, and this makes it harder. Boxes that autosubscribe to a mailing spamlist when opened. Boxes that take the form of a small attachment that still needs to be clicked to unpack the box. Boxes that have a no-copy notecard or vendor ad inside for no justifiable reason, just to make the box no-copy. Boxes that contain a bunch of subboxes for each colour; bonus points for the item itself only having the size and not the colour in the name. Boxes that contain 3-4 useless notecards, such as "IMPORTANT: READ" which just says "right click -> add the ankle pose helper" and nothing else. (I don't actually mind boxes that auto-unpack on attachment, but I can see why others do so adding it to the list.) If your boxes do any of those things, that's a paddlin'.
  6. "Hey we're running a photo contest to promote our new sim with cash prizes! But the sim is group only for rezzing stuff, and the group is private, can't join it I'm afraid." My brain is not powerful enough to understand this thought process.
  7. Bonus points if multiple groups for multiple distinct sims are owned by the same people, so crossping each and every one of those spampings to both groups
  8. I'm a big fan of YS&YS skins, they're simply gorgeous
  9. While I agree; if you use illegible squiggly letters for your display name and someone decides to ignore them and use your account name instead, I don't think it's justifiable to get annoyed at that. If you want people to use your chosen name, make it readable, or deal with the consequences.
  10. It honestly feels like some people need the non-video-game label to justify to themselves why they spend so much time in Second Life. "I'm an adult, adults don't spend hours playing video games... but spending hours in a virtual world? That's totally fine, and completely different!" In truth, the distinction is meaningless. Second Life follows the same patterns of activity and new player retention as MMOs, from a technological standpoint it might as well be a game. The only impact the label has is in the minds of those that use it... and if you're so insecure about your hobbies that you insist upon slapping one label rather than the other on it, then you honestly need to grow up.
  11. The problem here is that you are making two distinct and arguably opposing points in this thread: People shouldn't make assumptions, as those assumptions are often wrong I don't have to give you an explanation for anything; and I'm also choosing not to You can't have it both ways! People will make assumptions, hopefully extrapolated from the facts they do have. If those assumptions are wrong, then you either need to explain why, or just accept that assumptions will continue to be made. That choice is yours, of course; but you don't get to double-dip and have no assumptions while you provide no explanations. Exhibit A: my query. I used my knowledge of Linden Lab's policies surrounding discounted tier, my knowledge of what Djehan wrote on the Indiegogo page, and I made an assumption of how one applied to the other. That assumption was wrong; or more accurately, it was irrelevant. Djehan's post was unclear on a minor technical point ("regions" referring to both regions and homesteads); when this was pointed out and the napkin math rerun, it became clear that there was no discrepancy between the two pieces of factual knowledge that I had, so everything was happy and wonderful. Ideally this would have been pointed out to me, by yourself or any of the other active supporters of Hangars Liquides. Instead I was accused of trying to smear the sim with lies, for having the temerity to have a legitimate query about how the rules were being applied in this case (as that could have set a precedent that would impact other sims). These same people then insisted that they knew the answer to my question, but weren't going to tell me because... I honestly have no idea what justification they could have had here. But I'm glad that the fundraiser is within ~200 Euros of its target with almost a week to go, looks like the sim will remain open for at least the next six months, which is good news
  12. This is why I asked my questions. Because if - and it is a big if, hence the questions - Hangars Liquides had found a way to simultaneously receive the non-profit tier discount while also being able to subsidise the tier through private rentals, then there are dozens (if not hundreds) of gorgeous sims that could benefit from a similar setup. And in doing so, we'd see far fewer of those beautiful sims fail and disappear forever. Surely you'd agree that Second Life would benefit greatly, if it were possible for non-profit sims to enjoy half price tier and be able to cover the remaining cost with rentals? But instead I got accused of trying to smear Hangars Liquides. Just for asking for more information.
  13. What's easier? For every single person posting and reading this thread to individually convo Djehan and separately ask how renting out "5 regions" is compatible with the non-profit discount? Or for any one of the people who claim to have already had that conversation to post "it's 1 discounted region and 4 undiscounted rental homesteads"? Especially when those "in the know" have spent half of this thread trying to convince everyone that because Hangars Liquides is a special RL non-profit it can claim the discount despite renting, which isn't what is happening here. I tried to "inform myself" by reading the posts made by supporters of the sim, only to find that they were both outright incorrect and openly hostile to anyone with questions.
  14. The written word is by nature imprecise though. It's not ideal, but misunderstandings and erroneous assumptions are inevitable. All we can do is smile, and if the mistake was made in good faith (as they usually are) then correct the problem graciously.
  15. "Everything is fine but I'm not going to tell you how or why everything is fine instead you just need to trust me" is a pretty terrible line of thinking. And it just gives off the impression that you're talking out of your backside and don't actually understand what is going on here. If you genuinely understood that the sim comprised of one full, discounted region and four undiscounted homesteads, then you would have said so a dozen pages ago. Instead you made wild accusations about people trying to smear Hangars Liquides, and other nonsensical ramblings. It's not a good look.
  16. I was running on the assumption that "five regions" meant five full regions, rather than one region and four homesteads; and that the rental properties were spread out across each region so that the rent for each one would be the same. But that was just assuming that the post in the Indiegogo page was accurate, which was perhaps unwise. This certainly does explain the discrepancy between what the sim owner (and others) have said in this thread, and the actual rules for the discount in question. It also means that Linden Lab is not setting a new precedent with this case; which would have made a huge difference to a large number of other sims. Ideally this information would have come from one of the many people throwing mud in this thread, instead of the wild accusations made here. (For the benefit of everyone else: The Indiegogo page states that there are 60 apartment rentals at $112/$156, of which 10 have been paid for already, and 4 "platinum rooftop lofts" for $1120/$2235, of which 1 has been claimed. The two prices are the current sale price, and the listed base price. So 15 standard apartments and 1 luxury penthouse per homestead, if that's the model they're using. It also means that the project doesn't need to fill every rental to cover its costs, which is wise.)
  17. As I said; the case of Hangars Liquides has the potential to be an important precedent for how other, similar sims are to be treated by Linden Lab. So if Djehan or anyone else could explain how a sim that appears to breach the discount rules could still receive that discount, then that solves the issue and everyone is happy. Instead all I see is blind faith in the creator, which is utterly useless to the owner of any other sim that might be reading this thread.
  18. The test of this will be when the sim owner tries to pay the next month's rent at the discounted rate. Linden Lab could have already decided to strip the discount from this sim, in which case the owner will be charged $230 x5 rather than $115 x5; but there's no way for any of us to know until that actually happens. Until then, everything is theoretical. Oh, and the case of this sim is potentially an important precedent that Linden Lab are setting. Lose the victim complex, this isn't just about this one sim that could be gone in a matter of weeks; and is therefore fully open to discussion.
  19. It shows the currency amounts in your local currency; so for me that's GBP, for you that's EUR. It's pretty simple to convert them, and to see that the target is indeed $6700 and not $6000. Edit: Looks like the problem is a bunch of people quoting the half-goal of 3000 Euros as "$3000" by mistake. My math still works out; the annual cost quoted in the fundraiser is for 5 regions for 12 months at the discounted rate. Also; Linden Lab offers a massive discount to certain sims if they meet certain criteria. If offering 'perks in exchange for donations' breaches those criteria, as they appear to do so, then that discount will be rescinded. And that isn't me picking on this one sim, it's a simple recognition of the fact that there are huge numbers of sims out there that use rentals to subsidise their tier. If you allow HL to double-dip and claim both rentals and the discount, then so will a huge number of other sims. These decisions have consequences that reach far beyond this one sim.
  20. ~$6700 /5 /12 gives you ~$111 per region per month, within rounding errors of the $115 per region per month discounted rent. We're currently at 40% of the $6700 goal... so 20% of the full rent cost. On the topic of number crunching, as of this moment 79% of the donation money raised through that Indiegogo page has been through purchasing rental apartments, rather than direct donations.
  21. What, a troglodyte that thinks that adding a beard to your system or cookie-cutter mesh avatar is the height of customisation, a fetish for misogynistically dehumanising women under the cloak of "BDSM", and enough pretentiousness to rival your average class of Etonians? My dude this is SL, men like you are practically paving slabs, you can't walk anywhere without stepping on the damn things.
  22. The issue here is that Linden Lab could decide to revoke the non-profit status of the sims, due to the fact that donations-for-rentals are technically classified as for-profit sales instead. We know that this is likely, as LL applying this rule to inworld rental sales achieved the same effect. If so, then the region rents go back to their full price and so the $6700 per year rent cost for the five regions will be doubled to compensate. The target of 50%/$3000 by the 1st of August effectively becomes $6000... and the Indiegogo page is a long way from $6000. What would happen if the fundraiser raised between $3000 and $6000, and LL strips the non-profit discount from the sim? The $3000 target would be met, but that amount would pay for 3-4 months rent only... would the donations be returned, or would the sim get an extra few months of life before closing? (I used to run a real life charity shop, so I know how messy things can get when you're a business-for-a-charitable-purpose like this. It's a nightmare. But the rules still have to be followed, even when they're dumb and counter-productive.)
  23. The Xcite attachments are extremely script heavy. It's script memory usage is enough to get you kicked from some sims; I've seen cases where someone's lady parts have had a higher memory count than the other seven avatars on sim combined. And that's before we get to the talking body parts thing, which is just... a big nope from me. I've used VAW, and it's pretty great. They have a rigged version which you can just plug in and play, without needing to reposition or resize anything. By default it comes with that part of your body from near the navel downwards, which can be a nightmare to colour correctly, but that can easily be turned off. There are other brands that I've heard people are happy with... just avoid Xcite
