    Unfortunately, that video is blocked for me. Not sure if it was a QI clip or not, but love the show. I was a little unsure of how the transition from Stephen Fry to Sandi Toksvig would go, but I like her every bit as much.

    I only recently heard about Gomboc from an action lab video.

    Updated the video link (full episode of QI XL Series F Episode 8 Fashion, 2009-02-12). And yes Sandi Toksvig does it well. Stephen Fry was amazing, hard to follow, but I find she does it well.

    As a geek moment, I did a test using a Gömböc mesh shape. A Gömböc is a fascinating mathematical object that is a convex three-dimensional homogeneous body that when resting on a flat surface has just one stable and one unstable point of equilibrium.

    ...

    Fascinating - I remember, I saw it on an episode of BBC's QI and was amazed by, this is how natures "made" the turtle shield. See also Wikipeda on Gömböc

    Thank you for sharing your creation @chrixbed

    We don't often see distant hills in Second Life. On Strawberry Linden's blog, a recent picture showed some.

    I'm looking at this laptop. https://www.newegg.com/p/2WC-0001-01NT1?Item=9SIAA0SC0S0390&quicklink=true

    Intel Core i7-10210U Upto 4.9GHz,
    16GB RAM,
    1TB SSD,
    NVIDIA GeForce MX130,

    at a similar price point what would i want to change, if anything, for a better SL experiance

    Bad GPU not suited for Second Life or gaming as they others pointed out. Go for a laptop with at least GeForce 1060 6 GB or better, as the new generation of GeForce GPU 30XX is coming, keep an eye open on offers and deals on gaming laptops with GeForce 1060 6 GB or better. Higher numbers better - 20XX was next generation and much faster.

    So... I've had this issue for months now, and nothing is seeming to fix it. On some Sims I'm getting between 10-15 FPS, sometimes as low as sub 5, which is insane and makes even typing unbearable as it seems linked to FPS some how.

    Simply put, this shouldnt be happening. For reference, I'm running a 6700k and GTX 1080, 32gb ram@3200. Certainly not a top spec monster or anything, but still extremely capable.

    ...

    I'm at a loss. Any advice, or at least an explanation of what's going on would be really helpful.

    I experienced something like you with my GForce 1060, where I normally had excellent FPS and no problems. See Viewers and GPU memory usage.

    I reverted back to GForce drivers version 456.71 from 2020-07-10, further I uninstalled Firestorm clean and reinstalled it again. Ensured NVidea Control Panel settings for Firestorm using my 1060, maximum performance.

    After the above steps I now have normal high good FPS again 130+ FPS i my sky box, 20-30 FPS high end clubs with graphics set between high and ultra in Firestorm, set to ultra with everything maxed out I get 100+ FPS in my sky box - I suspect, it was the latest drivers causing my problems. But no one reported same problems, it could also been my Firestorm gone "bad" or somehow the settings in NVidea Control Panel did not get used - I simply have no idea, just that my performance is back with excellent FPS and no problems.

    No updates from Microsoft for Windows 10 caused any problems - as the matter of fact, if the system got forced to use the Microsoft NVidea drivers, you would get very excellent performance and good FPS, but with less excellent quality on OpenGL programs as for example Second Life and some modern games requiring NVidea game ready drivers would not run well.

    FYI:

    Firestorm 6.3.9 (58205) May 27 2020 01:20:51 (64bit) (Firestorm-Releasex64) with Havok support

  6. I just drove around Bellisseria without problems - and was passenger in a fun Halloween car with the driver and his wife at The Halloween Haunted Neighborhood, where we passed region crossing flawless. Both vehicles heavy scripted ACS vehicles.

    Amazing how big differences we can experience.

    hello everyone

    I can't find a script that would be useful for me today. ...

    the script automatically modify a prim in several forms

    I don't know if any of you have this but it would be very useful to me.

    You can use llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast to manipulate an object, see PRIM_TYPE PRIM_SLICE PRIM_SIZE. Documentation on PRIM_TYPE here PRIM_TYPE

    Some of the modifications requires adjust of many parameters, see  llSetPrimitiveParams for options and possibilities.

    Be sure to have a backup of your original prim (object), as it is possible to screw things up big time 😂

    The ones described in http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewer_URI_Name_Space

    Tried, in the address bar of the viewer,

    secondlife:///app/appearance/show

    and

    [secondlife:///app/appearance/show]

    but nothing happens.

    Do they do anything, or is that obsolete info?

    Use as below llSay, llOwnerSay etc.:

            llOwnerSay("secondlife:///app/appearance/show");

    Now, you have to click the link in the chat window, this will open Appearance.

    Is it fixed now?

    Clothes changing in SL could be more graceful. You get to see all the intermediate states as the baking server grinds.

    Compare Fortnite:

    Clothes changing in Fortnite Party. Takes about as long as in SL, and works like Editing Appearance, but looks more polished.

    (If we could tell from LSL when appearance changes have completed, we could have changing booths like this in SL. Useful for stores.)

    Yes, works flawless again. If ppl still have problems - try and disable/enable BOM on body/head with the HUD for the body. Alternative/detach or add base BOM element as for example skin or tattoo. Further TP to another region and back if still problems.

    In all fairness we have Appearance with optional outfit gallery - many product are delivered with poster, which can be used (saving the 10 L$ upload) . Personally I use descriptive naming of my outfit with makers name at end - for example: Lara - Casual Jeans & Shirt - Blueberry.

    Changing outfit only one click away - challenge is to organize in my case 300+ outfits logical and naming descriptive and with easy to find keywords.

    Room for improvement? Yes, I would say we will see improved Appearance/Outfit handling, as user ideas and inputs get to the developers.

    Is it possible using the command line flag to set maximum texture memory higher than 2048?  I tried 4096 and didn't get an error, but also don't know where to look and see if it did anything.  I have a 8gb card, so theoretically I could load a lot more and potentially speed things up.

    No - maximum is 2 GB no matter how much VRAM you GPU has. An excellent alternative, if you have a modern newer GPU, is The Black Dragon Viewer by @NiranV Dean , read the information and understand the differences to the other viewers. With Black Dragon Viewer you can adjust usage of VRAM and break the 2 GB limitation.

    20201016_black_dragoon_viewer.png.14800ebdd5aa66daa3e0aee98d825d8a.png

    Remember lot of things contributes to texture trashing - simple adjustments like lowering draw distance often the best solution. And always leave room for the OS to have VRAM - with Windows 10 at least 512 Mb, to be safe 1 GB.

    If you are into high end photographing or machinima, Black Dragon Viewer is second to none, simply the best.

    That doesn't solce that ridiculously oversized search phrase field though:

    Whoever at Linden Lab got the idea that it needed 86 characters??? I mean, ususally the LL developers (yes, this is their fault, FS just uses the code from the official viewer here). Usually they make text entry fields far too small but this time they went way over the top in the other direction. 1000+ pixels wide window if you want to access the search buttton without having to scroll. It's just horrendously poor web design.

    bilde.thumb.png.9e1604375aa7afd0ad6c6d611c6d7043.png

    Nods, well there actually two factor behind this - one as pointed out by @Nick0678 , the layout design of the search window and second the HTML design, when using WEB search. The later would be easy to fix with defined CSS style or simple usage of HTML tags defining the the layout of the elements.

    I personally use Firestorm's search tab fields People, Groups, Places and Events, when doing search from within the viewer.

    Thanks for the info and I'm glad it works for you, but I've just tried and still the same, even on few different viewers. I guess I have to wait a bit more.

    Same issue for me too. Logged on last night and was having problems, but read that they were implementing a fix. Logged on today and still the same problem.

    OK, on the Linden Lab grid status page, the incident on Bake Services Maintenance is still open, as they are working on it.

     Fingers crossed.

    Have you tried taking off everything but the skin and see if that at least works?
    What about a relog?
    Could you be experiencing network issues?

    Your problem seems different to mine in that what I observe is always transient and easily fixed.

    Cleared cache - relog, tried naked base body -  and even the standard Linden avatar Bitsy look like this:

    20101014_skin_failure.thumb.png.d62d234375cb1240a3a877f622c68a4b.png

    Ok, local ping to IP 9 ms, download 200 Mpbs - but upload only 5 Mpbs, which should be same as download, so could be my IP having troubles.

    Edit: OK confirmed problems by Linden Lab: "Investigating - We are currently experiencing issues with bake services, and avatars may experience trouble changing outfits or will also appear as a cloud while this maintenance is in progress. Please check this blog for further updates.

    Yes, I have definitely had this as well though infrequently.  My solution is to take off the last thing I added and then re-add it again.  So far it has caused a rebake which has worked 100% after that.

    Tried above, still not working :(

  16. 20201014_BOM_failed.thumb.png.aef5d62da01f6082e5f7b9ee20b17ffc.png

    BOM... BOM... BOM... failure all day. Neither Force Appearance Update/Rebake nor disabling and enabling BOM on body and head fixes it.

    Anyone else experience same?

    OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit (Build 19041.572)

    SIM Ping 170-175 ms

  17. Adding to @RowanMinx, when you hold the mouse at edges of the search window, you will see a resize option.

    • So grab the search window at top
    • then resize to be smaller
    • then move search window up - repeat until you can see the dotted triangle bottom right of the search window
    • now you can size and position the search windows as you wish

    What screen resolution do you have, looks like 1024x780 - if your computer graphic supports higher resolution, try it - full HD 1920x1080 for example gives your much screen space.

  18. 2 hours ago, Wulfie Reanimator said:

    Or, just to make things a little less repetitive, we can turn the llGetObjectDetails thing into a reusable function.

    One thing to remember, handle if changed owner, this makes it easier to distribute.

        changed(integer change)
        {
            if (change & CHANGED_OWNER)
            {
                llResetScript();
            }
        }

    And always be aware llListen(0, "", NULL_KEY,"") used in a busy sim with a lot of people coming and going can contribute to lag of sim.
